Beverly is discussing her problems with Jim with Ewan; it seems Jim will be returning from Cairns very soon.
Ewan tells her she doesn't have to stay with Jim. Ewan leans forward to kiss Beverly but she hesitates, Ewan gives it one more attempt and with this they both begin to kiss passionately.
Joe is on the phone to the vet about Bouncer. Kerry comes out of the bedroom and tells Joe she is worried about Sky; she has a bit of a temperature. Lochie comes out of the other bedroom and it appears she is feeling unwell too!! Lochie tells Kerry that her throat is sore and she thinks that she is dying! Joe comes through with the good news that Bouncer is ready to be picked up; although the vet has said he can't do triple somersaults just yet.
Kerry takes Lochie's temperature; it seems the prospect of some time of school pleases Lochie. Joe spoils the party by quickly reminding her that the school holidays are coming up, Lochie adds that she will get better quick then. Joe leaves to go and pick up Bouncer.
Matt is working under a car when the phone rings; it's Paul. Paul is enquiring about a customer's car, Matt tells him he is working on it but it will take a bit longer to finish. Paul isn't happy though as he doesn't want to get on the wrong side of his customer. It seems Matt is struggling with the problem and then gets out the car manual to look up the problem!
Helen comes home and is surprised to see Jim is back; she thought the cyclone in Cairns meant he would be stranded there. Jim asks Helen where Bev is but she tells him she doesn't know. Jim explains to Helen that he has had time to cool down and that he was wrong in following Ewan and Bev to Cairns and assuming they were having an affair!!
Bev is examining Lochie. It's the mumps!! Kerry is very curious as to where she got them from. Bev tells Kerry that Lochie needs to be isolated for 9 days. Bev reassures Kerry and says that Sky is probably only cutting a tooth as she has been immunised against mumps. Kerry tells Bev that she has already had mumps but that she isn't sure about Joe.
Well it seems Lochie has to be isolated at the Mangle's! Joe brings home a limping Bouncer. However Joe announces he isn't feeling well either. Bev announces it must be the mumps!!
Helen and Jim are still discussing his problems. Jim feels he should have stayed in Cairns "It would have been easier to face the cyclone than Bev." Bev comes in so Helen makes a sharp exit - probably a very wise move! Jim apologises to Bev for his behaviour and asks her to forgive him. Bev suggests that they just forget the last few days and she goes to help Helen with the dinner.
Kerry is looking after the invalids Joe and Lochie. However Lochie is enjoying the ice cream whereas Joe is feeling miserable. Joe is more concerned that the mumps may make him sterile!!
The customer has come to collect his car and isn't happy it has taken so long. Matt goes to get the invoice.
Matt is in a rush; he is late for college. Jim comes through and Bev apologises that she can't stay for breakfast as she is in a rush. Ewan walks in and Jim tells him to make himself at home - Hasn't he done that already!! Ewan asks Bev what happened with Jim and he wants to know where it leaves them. Beverly tells him she is not clear about her feelings for him; Ewan is quick to tell Bev not to mistake loyalty for love.
Paul tells Jim that the customer from yesterday isn't happy; apparently the car broke down in the middle of nowhere. Jim explains to Paul that he didn't touch the car, so Paul demands to know why he left an inexperienced mechanic in charge while he visited the tropics!
Joe is reading up abut mumps and infertility. Kerry points out that the book is out of date and that Bev told him not to worry about it. The invalids are demanding a lot of Kerry's attention so she tells them if they want something then they will have to wait.
Helen asks Paul if he can take a look at the Home James accounts, Helen notices that he is not in a good mood though. Paul explains that Jim has put him in a bad mood, he isn't happy that Jim went to Cairns while an important customer needed his car fixing. Paul asks Helen if anything is wrong between Jim and Bev. Helen says she can't discuss it.
Jim is working on a car when Matt comes in. Jim tells Matt that the car he fixed blew up on the customer. Matt tells Jim it's not his fault and that he had Paul breathing down his neck for the car. Matt tells Jim a few home truths. However it all backfires on Matt as Jim sacks him and also tells him to find somewhere else to live.
