Coffee Shop
Melanie tries to play down the shouting in the kitchen to the customers(!) Harold is telling Gloria and Lee rather forcefully that they'd better shape up, or they're out of a job.
No.24
Sharon is packing her bags and says she'll go back to live with Hilary. Madge thinks she should take to Bronwyn before she takes off. Sharon says she can't see the point - Bronwyn has become some sort of prison warder! Madge reasons that it's normal for sisters to fight, but Sharon thinks they've finally outgrown each other.
Coffee Shop
HAROLD: Now, have we established that this is a place of business and not an arena for gladiators?
Des observes that Gloria and Lee don't really like working together and thinks he has a solution. He starts turning about turning hostility into positiveness and suggests they get things out in the open by telling each other what irritates them about the other!
LEE: I hate the way you call everybody 'love'
GLORIA: Oh yeah? Well who are you for calling my cooking bland? You can't even make a sandwich!
LEE: What? I can't concentrate with you in my ear all the time (to Des) She talks non- stop!
GLORIA: Oh, now let me...
Harold tries to interrupt, but Des says they're going well and making progress. Now they have to turn their negative energy into something positive. He spouts a lot of team- building jargon at them and they look a bit confused(!) Then Des says it's time to think about things they like about each other. He'll let them think overnight and they can tell each other tomorrow. Harold is skeptical.
Garage
Jim and Matt are just finishing off a car. Matt explains to the customer that the choke was too tight and the customer is impress. He tells Jim he'll be back again in the future.
No.26
Todd and Melissa are hanging out, but she decides to go home, rather coldly. Nick comes in and asks Todd how it's going. Todd thinks maybe he should do something romantic for her - maybe take her out to a restaurant. Nick says that's expensive, but Todd says he could use the money saved towards his trail bike. Nick isn't sure - he thinks there's more wrong with Melissa than a flash night out can fix.
No.24
Sharon slinks in, still ranting about Bronwyn. Madge says that Sharon is very like Charlene. They were only 14 and 12 when their mother died. Madge says that maybe Bronwyn has got used to looking after Sharon. Sharon says Bronwyn is being unfair - just because she goes out with lots of guys, it doesn't mean she's "slack". Bronwyn comes out of her room and overheards this, telling Sharone she knows she isn't. She apologises for what she said and says that everything will be OK from now on. They hug.
No.30
Lee and Matt are kissing. Lee is trying to think of good points about Gloria but not having much luck(!) They laugh about Des's motivational stuff and says maybe he could make a career of it!
Hilary comes in and doesn't approve of the kissing. She clears her throat and tells Matt he should do more study before school starts. He reluctantly agrees, but says he has everything under control.
Garage
Matt arrives for work to find Jim already there. He wants to have a chat with Jim before they start - would Jim take him on as his apprentice? He only wanted to go back to school because he had nothing else to do. He thinks he could probably make it through Year 12 with extra tutoring, but he'd much rather learn to be a mechanic.Just then, Melissa walks up. She gives him a box of Anzac biscuits that she made herself.
Coffee Shop
Gloria and Lee apologise to each other for their behaviour. They are getting on well, and agree that the motivational stuff is rather rubbish - they don't need it to be friends again. They laugh that neither of them had a list of good points about each other, but agree that they have a lot in common. Harold is listening from the kitchen and looks pleased.
No.30
Hilary is giving Melissa a rather strict piano lesson(!) when Bronwyn pops around. Hilary dismisses Melissa and then they talk about Sharon - Bronwyn and Sharon have made peace now. Hilary is pleased.
Ramsay Street
Todd and Nick are skateboarding when Melissa passes by. Todd tries to talk to her, but she is very cold. He invites her to the beach with him and Nick, but she says she's got too much to do. But in the end she reluctantly agrees.
Coffee Shop
Sharon asks Matt when he's going to tell Hilary about the apprenticeship - he's not sure yet. Matt tells Sharon that Melissa came in with biscuits for him today. Sharon reckons that Melissa really does have a big crush on him. Matt doesn't know what to do - Todd will have a breakdown!
Hilary comes in and Matt invites her to sit down with him.
MATT: Guess what. I've got myself a permanent job working with Jim as his apprentice in the workshop.
HILARY: Well, don't be so ridiculous, Matthew. That's not the sort of work you're being educated to do!
MATT: Mum, I'm not being educated to do anything. I want to leave school and go and become Jim's apprentice, and there's nothing you can do to stop me!
HILARY: Oh, isn't there! Well, we'll soon see about that.
She storms out.
SHARON: You want to be buried, or cremated?!
No.24
Bronwyn comes in from a hard day's work at the vet. Bronwyn suggests that she and Sharon go out tonight, just on their own.
Coffee Shop
Gloria and Lee are having a laugh and getting on well. Des comes in and thinks that his motivational talk did the trick. He is pleased!
Garage
Hilary has come to confront Jim about Matt's apprenticeship. She reckons Jim is interfering, but Jim says he isn't - the apprenticeship was all Matt's idea. Hilary says that being a mechanic is not suitable for Matt - he should finish Year 12 first and then decide. Jim says Matt may well take an apprenticeship with someone else if he doesn't do it with Jim, and Hilary should be careful not to alienate Matt.
Ramsay Street
Matt and Lee walk up the street - Matt wants Lee to help him with a plan. He sees Melissa coming up the street and puts his plan into action - basically behave like a meathead caveman(!) He belittles Todd and tells Melissa to go home and bake him some more biscuits. Todd gets angry and has a go at Matt. He ends up punching Matt in the stomach. Melissa is not pleased.
TODD: I can't please you, can I, whatever I do? I give up, we're finished! If you want Matt, you can have him! You two deserve each other.
He stalks off into the house.
