Ramsay Street
Matt asks Mike to meet him for football training the next morning, but Mike doesn't want to. Matt seems a bit hurt and Mike finally tells him that Mr Muir has extended Mike's probation year. Matt is appalled, but Mike says he's got no regrets and can't be bothered to fight the decision.
Clarkes
Des thinks Mr Muir is using Mike as a scapegoat. Mike muses that perhaps he's just not cut out to be a teacher, but Des says he's wrong - he's a good teacher.
Melanie comes in and starts packing up her things. Mike is surprised, so Des tells him about Melanie embellishing his CV. Mike thinks Des is being a bit hard on Melanie and wants him to give her another chance. Des doesn't want to though - he's made his mind up.
No.30
Matt is telling Sharon and Lee about Mr Muir extending Mike's probationary year. They are appalled, but agree with Matt that they can't do anything to help. Lee suggests they have a whipround to get Mike a present for helping them with a protest. Sharon thinks it's a great idea.
Paul
Paul is trying to get Gloria to relax quietly while he gets on with some work. She decided to start cooking, saying she'll make Paul a surprise. Gloria picks out a letter from Gail and comments that there's a lovely picture of the babies in it. Paul blows up and tells her to leave him alone. When Gloria has gone, Paul picks up the picture and looks at it.
No.30, the following morning
Matt and Lee are pashing on the couch.(Yuk) Sharon calls out imitating Hilary and they jump a mile(!) Sharon teases them and promises not to tell Hilary about their relationship.
Paul's
Gloria has made Paul some breakfast but is generally getting on his nerves. Gloria says she's going out to a bingo night tonight and Paul thinks it's a brilliant idea(!)
Clarkes
Melanie has finished packing her things. Mike asks her where she's going to go. She says her friend has got a caravan that she's going to stay in for a bit until she can find something. Des comes out of the bedroom and Melanie asks him if she can leave her suitcases at the house until later. She also asks him for a lift to work and Des agrees rather reluctantly.
The Coffee Shop
Lee and Matt have had a whipround for Mike and raised $52. They chat about Lee's horseriding days and a bit about her past. Lee doesn't really want to talk about her past life though. Matt says he doesn't feel he knows very much about Lee, but she gets angry and tells him that she doesn't want him to know her better - he might not like what he finds.
The Office
Des is chatting to Paul about Melanie leaving the house. Paul says Gloria is much worse to live with than Melanie(!)
Melanie comes in rather subdued and Paul tells her she can leave early to go househunting.
When Melanie has gone, Des looks guilty, but insists that Melanie has to go.
The phone rings at that moment and it's the employment agency - Sinclair wants to employ Des after all, in spite of Melanie's phony resume.
Clarkes
Des comes in to find Melanie sitting sadly at the table. He tells her that he's got the job after all and he thanks Melanie for doing his resume. Melanie congratulates him. Des says he till doesn't condone what she did, but he's glad he got the job and invites Melanie to stay with them for a while longer.
The phone rings and Des takes the call. He listens attentively and then tells Melanie that it's bad news for Mike.
The Office
Gloria comes in and tells Paul that she's decided not to go to the bingo - she'll stay home and help Paul instead. He isn't pleased, but agrees since Gloria is lonely. He's got a few clients coming around, so he lends Gloria his car to go and get some nibbles for the evening.
Ramsay Street
Sharon, Lee and Matt give Mike a present that they've bought with the $52. It's a cover for his motorbike and Mike is very pleased. He tells them that he really appreciates their support.
Clarkes
Mike comes in and excitedly tells Des and Melanie about the motorbike cover. Des tells Mike to sit down - he's had a phonecall about Mike's mother in Perth. Apparently she was in a plane over the Kimberleys and it crashed in the desert. She isn't dead, but she's in a critical condition. Des offers to help Mike to arrange to go to Perth to see her, but Mike says that his mother's never been there for him in his life - he doesn't want to go.
