Henry being sacked from his job with the funeral company.
No. 26
Beverly is in the kitchen, encouraging Katie to hurry up and have breakfast as she's got a lot to do before her flight today. Todd dashes in and says he'll see them later. As he goes to the front door, it opens and Helen arrives home. Jim smiles and asks in surprise what she's doing there. She tells him that she managed to get an earlier flight. Beverly puts the kettle on and Katie asks Helen how Annette is.
HELEN: She's very well: she's looking forward to having you back again.
TODD: Was she really upset about *me* not coming home?
HELEN: A little, perhaps, but she understands about Melissa and school and everything.
With that, Todd says he'd better *get* to school and he dashes out. When he's gone, Katie grins cheekily and asks Helen if she brought back any presents! Helen smiles:
HELEN: No, not exactly - but I *do* have a surprise for your aunt and uncle.
BEVERLY: Oh?
HELEN: I bumped into an old friend at the airport. As a matter of fact, we shared a cab home. I invited him for lunch; I hope you don't mind?
BEVERLY: No, of course not - but who *is* this mystery man?
HELEN: Wait and see!
Beverly and Jim look intrigued!
No. 28
Mike emerges from his bedroom and Des - who's sitting at the table with Jamie - asks how the swimming team's shaping up. Mike tells him that Matt broke the school freestyle record over ten laps this morning. There's a knock on the front door and Jane comes in. She walks over to Des and tells him:
JANE: I got my seat on the 'plane - six o'clock tonight.
Des tells her that they should leave there by about four, then, but Jane says quickly that she's already booked a cab. Des exclaims that he and Jamie want to see her off, but Jane insists that she'll just cry and embarrass him. Mike tells Jane that he'll see her after school and say his goodbyes then. He heads out. Des suggests to Jane that the two of them and Jamie go on a picnic, but Jane sighs that she promised Paul that she'd go into the office for a few hours and then she has to finish her packing, so she'll call in before the cab arrives. She turns to leave, but Des pulls her towards him suddenly and cries:
DES: I don't want you to go.
JANE: Des, I *have* to go. I have to be with nan when she needs me.
DES (softly and nervously): What happens if she doesn't get better before the wedding?
JANE: She will. She *will*.
Coffee Shop
Bronwyn finishes serving a customer and then turns to Henry - who's seated at the counter - and remarks that the mourners weren't impressed then. She adds that he'll find something else. Henry sighs that he's starting to wonder. Bronwyn hands him a muffin and tells him that it's on the house. Looking surprised, Henry asks where Harold is, and Bronwyn explains that he's gone to the market. She adds that he's still pretty down about Madge.
HENRY: *She* hasn't exactly been a barrel of laughs either.
Bronwyn suggests that she could cook a really special dinner for them all - but Henry tells her that she'll have to count him out, as it's the Year 10 dance at Erinsborough High and he promised to be DJ.
No. 32
Kerry straps a red nose to her face. Toby and Mary laugh at her and Mary asks who this Sid is that she's raising money for. Kerry, however, explains that it's not Sid, it's SIDS: Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. She clarifies:
KERRY: Cot death.
Toby straps a nose to his face as well and asks seriously:
TOBY: Kerry, what makes the babies die?
KERRY: I don't know, Tobe; that's why they need the money for research.
MARY: *We* used to say that the poor little mites had second thoughts about being born.
Joe comes in with a pile of sandwiches and grins as he tells Kerry that he likes her nose job! Mary suggests that Joe could flog some red noses to his mates at the pub this afternoon!
No. 26
Katie and Todd are sorting out a pile of records on the lounge room floor, trying to decide which one belongs to whom. Beverly is sitting on the couch, resting. Jim emerges from the bedroom area with a box of stuff for Katie to sort through before she goes, and Helen calls to him from the kitchen that the roast's ready to carve. The doorbell rings suddenly and Beverly tells Helen that she thinks her mystery guest has arrived! Helen asks Beverly if she can let him in, as she's in the middle of a gravy. Beverly hobbles over to open the door - and finds a man standing there, wearing a gorilla mask. She lets out a slight scream of shock, but Jim walks over to the door and exclaims immediately:
JIM: Clive! Clive Gibbons!
He walks over and shakes Clive's hand. Clive takes off the mask and grins:
CLIVE: Who else?!
No. 26
A short time later, everyone is sitting around the kitchen table, eating dinner, and Beverly is asking Clive how long he travelled overseas. He smiles that it was about six months - it cured the itchy foot syndrome once and for all! Katie asks Beverly if she can go over to Toby's, as she doesn't really want to eat anything. Beverly tells her that she's got half an hour - she's got her packing to finish. Katie heads off. Todd says to Clive:
TODD: So you're really a doctor?
CLIVE: Sometimes!
TODD: How can you be a doctor only sometimes?!
CLIVE: Well, you buy your own practice and you find a partner who's very dedicated to his job, and then you nick off and have a good time and leave him to run things. It's very easy!
Todd asks Beverly why *she* doesn't do that! Clive smiles that it's probably because she's got a family to support. Todd asks him:
TODD: Haven't you *got* a family?
CLIVE: I've proposed to dozens of girls, Todd. They take one look at the gorilla suit and head for the hills!
Jim insists that it's just a matter of finding the right girl. Clive's face drops and he muses:
CLIVE: I thought I *had*, once. Does Susan ever visit Madge?
HELEN: I believe Madge has been to see *her* once or twice.
Clive then tells Beverly that he reckons he could manage two or three hours a day at the surgery twice a week. Beverly looks at him in surprise and Helen explains that she told Clive about Beverly's accident, so he offered to help. Beverly exclaims that that would be marvellous, but she asks about his *own* practice. Clive shrugs that it's a funny thing: his partner seems to like it when he's away from the place - he says he disrupts the patients!
BEVERLY: I hope that doesn't mean you intend to disrupt *mine*!
CLIVE: That depends: would they object to a large, hairy ape on the other end of a stethoscope?
BEVERLY: Most definitely!
CLIVE: No worries - I'll wear the chicken outfit instead!
Ramsay Street
Henry drives Bertha up the driveway of No. 24 and climbs out, just as Kerry walks over to him, still wearing a red nose and holding a box containing lots more plastic noses. Henry stares at her and asks if he knows her! Kerry asks him if he'd like to help her sell noses this afternoon, and she adds that it's for a good cause. Henry tries to insist that he's busy this arvo - and selling's not exactly his strong point, as he got the sack again. Kerry insists:
KERRY: That's only because you're a sales *artist*. You can only sell something you *believe* in.
Henry gives in and says:
HENRY: What the hell!
Kerry hands him a box of noses and he smiles that this could be the start of a whole new career!
No. 32
Katie is standing in front of Toby in the lounge room. He exclaims in surprise:
TOBY: When are you coming back?
KATIE: I told you before, Toby, I'm *not* coming back.
TOBY: Not *ever*?
KATIE: Well, maybe for the school holidays - *maybe*.
Toby asks about Todd and Katie explains that he wants to stay in Erinsborough.
TOBY: Then why can't *you*?
KATIE: Because my mum's all on her own.
TOBY: Mine is, too, but she'd never make me go and live with her if I didn't want to.
KATIE: That's different, Toby. Anyway, I *want* to go.
TOBY (mutters): Have a good trip.
Katie then tells Toby that she'll miss him and she asks if he'll miss her. Toby just storms out of the room, though, muttering:
TOBY: Why should I? I've got *stacks* of other friends to play with.
Joe comes in and asks Katie what's up with Toby. Katie, looking disappointed, murmurs:
KATIE: Dunno. I thought he was my *friend*...

In the lounge room, Kerry is handing red noses to Helen and Beverly, smiling as she does so that they're selling like hot cakes! Clive and Jim emerge from the kitchen and Clive tells Kerry that one of his patients lost her baby from cot death last year; she never really stopped blaming herself.
BEVERLY: Nor did her doctor, I suspect.
CLIVE: Ah well, there's always the fear you might've missed something.
Kerry thanks everyone for buying noses and she heads off - just as Katie marches in, looking upset. Jim asks her if she saw Toby. She nods that she did but adds that she wishes she hadn't. She storms off to her room and Beverly goes to talk to her. Clive says he'd better head off and put in an appearance at the surgery. As he goes to leave, he asks what Kerry's surname is. Jim tells him:
JIM: Bishop. Kerry Bishop.
CLIVE (looking astonished): She is Harold Bishop's daughter?!
JIM: His one and only!
CLIVE: Boy, she doesn't take after him much, does she - in looks *or* temperament!
HELEN: She's engaged to Mrs. Mangel's son, Joe, as a matter of fact.
CLIVE (muses): Looks like I dip out again!
With that, Clive heads out, leaving Jim to comment to Helen that he hasn't changed much!
No. 32
Mary is ironing as Kerry opens another bag of red noses. Joe comes in and sighs that he thinks Toby's having women problems! Kerry explains that she saw Katie earlier: she's returning to Adelaide to live with her mum. Joe sighs that it's no wonder the little bloke's down. Mary comments to Joe that that's what she likes about him: he's not just Toby's father, he's his friend as well. She goes on sadly:
MARY: Used to be like that with Darryl. He was the apple of my eye, that boy. I keep wondering where I went wrong with him...
Tears start to well-up in Mary's eyes. Kerry and Joe go and comfort her as she sobs:
MARY: After he got married, he started turning against me; thought I was just being a jealous old mum. It's hard when he's your only son...
No. 32
Sometime later, Bronwyn and Henry are standing with Kerry in the lounge room and Henry tips a pile of notes and coins onto the table. Kerry exclaims that he's got $56, and she asks if he robbed a bank! She thanks them both. Bronwyn thanks Kerry for giving Henry a push, adding that he's been flat as old lemonade since Mr. Bright gave him the push - but now his ego's back to its normal, enormous size! Joe comes in and Henry and Bronwyn head out. Jane walks in with a large packed suitcase and a couple of other bags. Joe, looking surprised, remarks that he didn't think she was going for long! Jane just shrugs that you never know! She announces that she's going to go over and see Des, and she heads out. When she's gone, Kerry remarks to Joe:
KERRY: Jane *is* taking a lot of luggage, isn't she...?
Joe looks at her and, realising she's implying something, tells her to spit it out.
KERRY: Remember what that astrologer predicted about one of the weddings not taking place...? Well, it's starting to look like she might have been right...
No. 26
Katie has her coat on and is packing some bits of food for Rupert. Jim carries the last of her bags out to the car. Todd comes in with a record and tells Katie that he's had another listen to it and he's changed his mind: *she* can have it. Katie, looking delighted, thanks him. Todd adds that it's kind of a goodbye present. He then takes a sheet of paper out of his pocket and tells Katie that he has a letter for their mum. Katie takes it. Todd then says:
TODD: Hey, you're not mad at me for not going, are you?
KATIE: No - as long as you promise not to forget me.
TODD: *Course* I won't forget you!
With that, Todd gives Katie a warm hug and then heads off to his room. Katie turns to Helen, who's standing by the kitchen table, and sighs:
KATIE: Gran, why can't *all* boys be like Todd?
HELEN: All boys being Toby Mangel, I take it?
KATIE: Yeah. I told him I was going and he doesn't even *care*.
HELEN: Of *course* he cares, darling; it's just that he's a little bit like his father: he finds it difficult to express his feelings.
KATIE: You mean he's scared he'll be a sissy or something if he cries?
HELEN: Mm, something like that - so instead he has to pretend that it's no big deal.
KATIE: He didn't even say 'goodbye' properly.
HELEN: *I* once had to say goodbye to a friend - so I lent him something; something that he knew was very precious to me, in a way of saying that someday I'd be back.
KATIE: Did you go back?
HELEN (nods): Eventually.
Katie, looking thrilled at the idea, picks up the box Rupert is in and dashes out! Helen stands there staring into space wistfully.
Ramsay Street
Mike, Des, Jamie and Jane emerge from No. 28, Des asking Jane if she's got her passport. Jane assures him that that everything is organised! Katie runs over and wishes Jane a good trip. She then walks over to where Joe and Kerry are standing by a cab and asks if Toby's home. Joe nods that he's inside, although she's not to go upsetting him - and he wants him to come out and say goodbye to Jane. Jane, however, joins them and insists that it's all right: saying goodbye to Katie's probably much more important to Toby right now. Henry and Bronwyn walk over and Henry gives Jane a kiss and grins:
HENRY: Give your nan my best... No, on second thoughts you'd better not - might make her feel worse!
Bronwyn gives Jane a hug. Jane says to her that she supposes she and Kerry will both have to choose their *own* bridesmaid dresses now. Kerry tells Jane to get back in time: she's got her heart set on this double wedding! Jane turns to Mike who says sincerely:
MIKE: All the best.
JANE: Thanks. Keep an eye on Des for me, won't you?
MIKE: Yeah, course I will. You look after yourself.
Joe gives Jane a kiss and says goodbye. Jane then turns to Des, who's holding Jamie. She takes Jamie's hand and tells him to take good care of his dad for her. She then looks at Des and they embrace lovingly and kiss passionately. The driver of the cab starts the engine and Jane climbs in. Everyone watches her as the cab heads off down the street. Mike smiles at an upset-looking Des:
MIKE: She'll be back.
No. 32
In the lounge room, Katie lifts Rupert out of his box and tells Toby that she's not *giving* the rabbit to him - it's just a loan. Toby smiles that he'll take good care of him.
KATIE: I know you will. After all, you *are* my best friend in the whole wide world. If I can't trust you, who *can* I trust?
TOBY: You're *my* best friend too. I wish you didn't have to go away.
KATIE: I'll really miss you, Toby.
Katie then strokes Rupert and tells him to look after Toby for her. A car horn sounds outside and Katie comments that that's Uncle Jim. The two of them do their special handshake, but Katie then says:
KATIE: You know what I'd *really* like?
TOBY: What?
KATIE: I'd like you to kiss me - just once.
TOBY (rolling his eyes): I *have* kissed you.
KATIE: The school play doesn't really count.
TOBY: Well, we shook hands - that's what friends are *supposed* to do.
Katie nods and accepts this, sadly. She sighs and says she'd better go. She starts heading towards the door, but Toby calls after her suddenly:
TOBY: Katie...
Katie turns to him. He walks over to her and gives her a quick kiss on the lips. A broad smile crosses Katie's face and she beams happily:
KATIE: Wow! Bye! Bye Rupert!
With that, she heads out. Toby goes to the window and watches her leave, tears welling up in his eyes...
