Outside Daphne's father's
Daphne refuses to accept her father's money and suggests he use it to save whales (??) He asks her to reconsider and she agrees to talk to Des.
At the Clarkes
Helen and Lucy (in her Tina Turner wig) arrive to visit Beverly. Lucy goes outside to play with Bouncer and Helen tells Beverly she keeps catching her admiring herself in mirrors in her new wig. Beverly enquires about Jim and the Court case. Helen worries they might have to move out of Ramsay Street if things go badly - if and when one of her grandsons decides to present her with a great grandchild she wants to be close by. Discreet Bev lets slip that she thinks Scott and Charlene will be first as Paul and Gail are having problems. She wonders if they are happy.
Outside Daphne's father's
Des and Daphne are discussing what would happen if she accepted her father's money. She moans that it would change everything - "Neither of us would ever have to work again, we'd never have to struggle or save for anything - could you handle that?" (Er, yes!) She thinks Des would hate it if he couldn't provide for her and Jamie. Des argues it isn't that simple - the money would make Jamie's future so much more secure.
In Scott and Charlene's room
Scott "tidies" the bedroom by chucking everything into the wardrobe (Charlene will be delighted when she finds her makeup thrown in with her dirty overalls!) whilst Jane reads one of his history essays. She is amazed by how good it is. Scott says anyone can write a history essay but he can't even add up 2 plus 2. They have a lot of hard work ahead
Outside Daphne's father's
Daphne tells her father she has decided if he wants to leave her a bit of money she'd be very grateful but she wants him to leave the rest of it to Jamie. She doesn't want his money herself, all she's ever wanted is love. He reluctantly agrees.
At the Clarkes
Beverly tells Des and Daph she isn't sure she could have turned down all that money - Des says at least this way they know Jamie can look after them when they get old! Lucy says he can marry her when he's older, she'll take care of him (and his money!) Helen tells Daphne her visit must have been a great comfort to her father. Daphne doesn't seem as sure. Maybe a few more visits will help. Des goes to tidy up ready for Harold coming to stay and Lucy asks if she can stay too to see Harold in his plaster. Helen warns her not to laugh at him.
In Scott and Charlene's room
Jane tests Scott on maths formula I've never heard of and Scott reels off equations that mean nothing but are apparently correct by using Clive's old method of setting them to a rhythm and singing them. Henry walks in and asks how they can call that work? Anyway, lunch is ready so they'll have to give it a break. Jane asks if he's been working hard and he tells her that 3 more of his customers have cancelled (how many customers can he have??). Scott comments on all the interruptions they've had and agrees with Jane that they'll study at Mrs Mangel's this afternoon.
At the Clarkes
Lucy tries hard not to laugh at Harold and his pain. Beverly offers him painkillers but he prefers natural pain killing methods like gritting his teeth (!). Lucy, practically sitting on his (poorly) shoulder, asks if this is working yet. Daphne drags her into the nursery to look at Jamie's christening gown. Harold thanks Des again for taking him in, he was embarrassed to be sharing with a house of women. Des tells him it's no problem- especially as it was his mother who was to blame. She has already rung round the church people to set the record straight. Harold is pleased to hear this but tells Des he doesn't think he'll be able to forgive everyone who was involved.
At the Mangels
Scott is going through Jane's records while she goes through his text book (Wrong way round surely?). They discover they have loads in common and are amazed they didn't discover this before (as am I - Jane appears to only have five records. Can't be hard to know what music she's into!)
At the Clarkes
Henry calls round to see Harold. He asks why Harold didn't come to stay with them - they were all looking forward to it (!). Harold explains he couldn't because Madge wouldn't really want it - a true friend wouldn't have helped spread rumours about him. Henry tells him a Christian would forgive but Harold is afraid it would take a better man than him to forgive such extreme cruelty. Lucy comes in to say hello. Henry nicks her wig and dances with it on. Harold laughs but gets cross when Henry puts it on him. He stands up and demands Henry take it off him - just as visitors from the church arrive to see him.
Henry makes a quick exit. Revd Sampson quizzes Des and Daphne about their absence from church since Jamie was Christened. Des lies (to a Revd! The shame) and says they always sit at the back. One of the nice ladies tells Harold he didn't have to remove his wig on their account. He protests that it was just a prank. Lucy, (straightening out Harold's hair) agrees that he doesn't need a wig, he has all his own hair - sort of (covers up a thinning patch..). The old dears ask when they'll see him in the church choir again but Harold is insistent that as soon as he is well enough he is leaving Erinsborough.
At the Mangels
Jane is marking Scott's paper. He got one wrong. He says he wouldn't be able to get any right without her help and he really appreciates what she is doing. It would have broken Charlene's heart to sell her wedding dress. Jane says she's enjoying herself. They agree that tomorrow they will study in the park and Jane will pack a picnic lunch (oysters and asparagus perhaps?). Scott leaves and misses the adoring look Jane shoots after him.
At the Clarkes
Harold insists to Des and Daph that he must go. He feels deeply betrayed - Madge has deliberately wounded him in a callous way that he can't forgive. Des points out that Daphne fought with her father for years and had much more reason to hate him than Harold does Madge. Daphne agrees that it feels a huge weight has been lifted off her shoulders. If Harold doesn't make up with Madge, he is the one who will feel unhappy. Harold (feeling weepy maybe?) asks Des to blow his nose (Nice!).
At the Ramsays
Scott is telling Helen how much he learnt that day. Henry comes in and says another 2 customers have cancelled - this is almost a quarter of his customers he has lost over the past two days (he never seemed that busy, when did he do the work for all these customers??). Helen pulls out a note she found in her letterbox that day - "Henry Ramsay is an ex crim, he is only doing the lawns so he can case the houses before he robs them". Who'd do that to him???
