At Mrs Mangel's:
Eileen is instantly smitten with Harold, to his total oblivion. He gives Daphne's flowers to Nell who tells him she won't reject her olive branch, whilst clearly pointing out that she hasn't been near her since she got out of hospital... He goes off to put them in water and Eileen rhapsodies on how incredible Nel's psychic powers are. Nell doesn't want to play down her powers, but points out that Eileen and Harold are not well suited - "You put ham in his vegetarian pasta and he won't forget that in a hurry!" Besides, Mr Bishop is happy as he is. Eileen hints that maybe Nell is keen herself and Nell is quick to dispel any doubts on that - too quick.
At the office:
Paul is working late. Gail comes to drag him off home and tells him about the friend Lucy has made in hospital. He is relieved, the illness has really got Lucy down. He tells Gail that he thinks they should eat at the restaurant that night as a treat - he wants to celebrate her coming into work in his office full time. She is delighted to move in with him, and even more when he tells her she'll get a pay rise.
At the Clarkes:
Daphne thinks Des is a chauvinist, and reminds him he said he wouldn't be over protective. She knows it isn't ideal to take Jamie into work but she insists she can manage. He reluctantly agrees to give it a go.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Harold wants to watch a video but Nell is too tired, and Jane's already seen it. Eileen on the other hand cannot wait to watch it with him! Jane takes Mrs M off to bed and Harold and Eileen get cosy on the couch.
Later:
Eileen is blubbing at the movie and Harold gives her his hanky. She thanks him and tells him love stories always make her cry. She gazes up at him as he tells her how there are many obstacles in the path of true love. She wistfully sighs that the longest journey begins with a single step, and she hasn't given up.
At the office:
Paul tells Jane that Gail is moving into the office permanently that day. They discuss the video and Rosemary's approval - she hasn't commented yet and Gail is nervous. Paul assures her that it's just a formality.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Eileen comes calling, dressed as a leopard. Nell thinks she looks more like mutton dressed as lamb, but it's definitely leopard, with a hint of Julian Clary in the make up application. Eileen asks her where Mr Bishop is, and muses that she might pop down to the coffee shop to buy some quiche for Mrs M. Mrs M isn't feeling like quiche. Eileen suggests that maybe she should read her own tea leaves to see what her own future holds. Mrs M agrees, and sees a pineapple. Eileen joyously declares that she must be going on a cruise to Hawaii! Maybe a honeymoon trip?? Mrs Mangel is fed up of tea leaf reading.
At the coffee shop:
Daphne is impressed with Harold's shiner but he's embarrassed and wearing dark glasses. She goes off to the kitchen, leaving him to entertain Jamie.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Paul has come to visit, bring Mrs Mangel a little something from him and Gail. He's hoping she'll be back at work soon, but advises her that Madge is doing an excellent job in her absence. She practically runs out of the door back to work, but sensible Eileen points out it could be months before she returns. They distract her with her gift - yikes! A pineapple!
At the coffee shop:
Gail teases Harold about his dark glasses and asks if he's had a row with Madge. Daphne shows off Jamie to Gail, who protests that she's not really a baby person. Des comes in and worries over Jamie being out in the shop. Daphne accuses him of spying on her.
At the office:
Rosemary calls to speak to Gail. She liked the video! After Gail hangs up Paul gives her more good news - Rosemary wants her to become assistant manager.
At the coffee shop:
Eileen rushes in and covers up Jamie to protect him from Harold who is walking past with a tray of drinks. She stops him serving again to ask his advice on becoming vegetarian. He assures her he'd be delighted to discuss it with her some time. Daphne comes out and admires (!) Eileen's outfit, then refuses to let her take Jamie out for the afternoon. Harold quietly agrees with Eileen for wanting to take Jamie out of the shop, and praises her on her choice of dinner - vegetarian quiche.
At the office:
Paul worries what it'll be like having two women working in the office and quickly runs off. Gail tells Jane he probably feels insecure now she's been promoted - she likes that in him, makes him more human.
At the Mangels:
Eileen tells Nell she only saw Harold briefly at the coffee shop and thinks it more important to ask her advise about Jamie being in the coffee shop. Once she hears that Nell disapproves too her mind becomes more firmly set to do something about it. Nell comments that the health inspector wouldn't like it and Eileen agrees, but slyly tells her that of course she couldn't do it...
At the office:
Rosemary rings again to speak to Gail. Paul hopes for a chat too but is disappointed, and as equally disappointed that Gail is sitting in his chair. He kicks her out pronto. She tells him that Rosemary has asked her to write an honest report on the complex and he warns her that loyalty is a two way street. She tells him she is going to do it properly and he accuses her of trying to get herself a little help along the way. She answers - "no Paul, that's the way you do it." Looks like the atmosphere in the office won't be as merry as they thought.
