Recap
Jim worries about losing Lucy and cries that he needs her as much as she needs him.
At the coffee shop:
Harold and Charlene discuss the delights of the day's menu, Harold asking what they are going to tempt the carnivores with. Charlene tells him it's Madras curry - "only made it once before and it was a total disaster." Good idea to put it on the menu for paying customers then. Luckily curries are Eileen's speciality, "so there's no need to worry, I'll handle the curry." Realising this rhymes she goes off to the kitchen singing a little cha cha song about it. Charlene ad libs that "the customers will die in a hurry cha cha cha". Harold asks her to be patient with her and promises that if there are any problems he will deal with them. Charlene pulls him down to her level and tells him firmly that she'll hold him to that. Eileen comes in and tells Charlene that she needs to keep her work surface tidy. Through gritted teeth Charlene tells her she'd just got all those things out- they're what she's using today.
At the hospital:
Lucy wakes up and asks how she got into the hospital. She wants to know what's wrong with her but Bev says they're still doing tests. Lucy is hopeful she will be better for her maths test next week.
At the coffee shop:
Madge has come in to help Charlene with her curry. Unfortunately Eileen is helping too and chaos rapidly ensues. Madge leaves after Eileen hints that she stole Nell Mangel's job. Eileen fusses over the curry, Charlene trying to grab the curry powder from her. Of course, the lid falls off and the whole pot of powder falls in. Charlene screams that the curry is ruined by Eileen protests "Nonsense! It'll just be a good, strong curry." Charlene comments that it'll be so strong it'll burn a hole in the pan.
At the hospital:
Beverly tells Jim Lucy's tests will take a couple of hours as she is wheeled off to another room. She lets him know that she hasn't made any decisions about their future yet but she'll stand by him while Lucy's sick. He looks pleased.
At Paul and Gail's:
Paul leaves the office in Gail's hands while he is at the hospital with Lucy. Rob comes down all packed to leave. Gail asks why he doesn't stay with them a bit longer but he likes not being tied down. They talk about all the things he did wrong before he shot through and Gail assures him that she loves him, no matter what he does. Please stay? He seems to be weakening so she presses harder and he takes out a coin - he tosses it and decides to stay.
At the coffee shop:
Charlene asks Harold to taste her curry, she doesn't want to burn any customer's throat. He runs away, crying that it's got meat in. She tells him at least he can eat the vegetarian pasta she's made, then has a good old moan about Eileen. He tells her she needs to be patient, as Eileen opens up the hatch and lectures them both on how they need to pull their fingers out.
At the hospital:
Helen has come to keep Jim company as they wait for Lucy's tests to be completed. She tells him it can't take much longer.
At the Waterhole:
Gail is talking to Madge about ideas to make the Waterhole pay. Madge asks about the video and Gail teases that they're going to use her argument with Amanda as the opening shot. Rob comes in and asks Madge if she's still seeing Harold. When she tells him they're just good friends now he asks if he can take her out. She turns him down and he goes off to find some old mates. Madge feels bad and Gail says if she could think of any way to make him feel welcome back she'd be really grateful. Paul comes in and asks if Henry would like to work in the bar while they're short staffed (Madge is doing Mrs M's job). Madge is sure he'd be delighted.
At the coffee shop:
Eileen chokes on the curry, but insists it's just good and strong. Charlene opens the hatch to talk to Harold but he tells her to keep it shut and go out to talk to him. She goes out and Eileen grabs a jug of orange, glugging it down. Charlene sulks that she was only going to ask Harold if he wanted some pasta and he apologises to her, explaining that the smell of meat from the kitchen is making him feel ill. Charlene - "Well there's something else in there making me crook." Eileen opens the hatch to nag that the pasta needs more texture and Charlene almost takes her nose off slamming it shut again. Left alone in the kitchen Eileen slices up ham and chucks it in the vegetarian pasta.
Later:
Harold declares the vegetarian pasta delicious and asks Charlene what the red lumps in it were. She thinks he means the tomatoes but he says no. Eileen cheerfully tells him he must mean the ham.
HAROLD: Ham? Meat ham? I've been poisoned!!!!! (Rushes out to throw up)
At the Waterhole:
Madge invites Harold round for dinner on Saturday night. He is thrilled. He is even happier when Harold rushes in practically in tears crying out for a drink - anything to take the taste of meat out of his mouth. Rob goes out nearly crying with laughter.
At the hospital:
Beverly has the results of the tests - it is a brain tumour and they need to operate that afternoon. She warns them there is a risk of brain damage and they won't know for a while if the tumour is benign or malignant. She promises Jim that they'll do everything they possibly can to look after Lucy.
Outside the Waterhole:
Madge takes Harold for a walk and tells him that it isn't the end of the world. He talks about his beliefs and how his life slaughtering animals made him vegetarian. Now he feels that one bowl of pasta has meant the last five years were all for nothing - not because he ate meat, but because he enjoyed it. Madge comforts him with the fact that it was because he enjoyed it that makes it more of a conviction, and him more of a man in her eyes. He calms down a little and tells her she is a very wise woman, and wonders if they made a mistake breaking the engagement. It looks like things might be getting better between the two of them when Charlene breaks up the happy re-union, asking Harold what he is going to do about Mrs Clarke? He tells her she is right. Something must be done.
At the hospital:
Lucy is frightened about her operation. Jim reassures her that Beverly will be assisting the surgeon so she's in very good hands. Not convinced, she asks him if he's going to die. He tells her not to be so stupid, of course she won't die. Looks like he's trying to convince himself as well as her.
