Recap
Jane isn't happy with her mum babying her and tells her a few home truths.
At the Robinsons:
Lucy is parading about in Helen's lovely gift from Amanda when Jane comes home. They are a bit surprised as they thought she'd want to stay with Amanda now. She fumes to them about the way Amanda spoke to her and tells them she stopped being her mother when she walked out on her.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Harold is awkwardly trying to comfort Amanda. He suggests that he speak to Jane on her behalf and walks out, quite smitten.
At the Clarkes:
Daphne and Eileen are bickering about the best way to look after Jamie. Mother in laws! Seems the best way to get Jamie off to sleep is to give him to Uncle Mike. I think it must be the awfulness of his woolly jumper that shocks him into unconsciousness.
Outside the Robinsons:
Harold lectures Jane and tells her she is being very, very unreasonable. She snaps that it didn't take long for her mother to get to him and warns him that the only person her mother cares about is herself. Harold presses on that it would be very beneficial for Mrs Mangel to come home to a happy family and this works better. She agrees to talk to her mum but looks very wary.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Amanda talks to the portrait of Nell but stops when Jane comes in and tells her they should try to get along for her nan's sake. As they talk Amanda pushes all the blame for leaving Jane behind onto Jane's dad and promises to make things up to her now. She reveals that she's left her father and hoped they'd now be able to find their own place - she just needs Jane to give her another chance.
At the Ramsays:
Madge is questioning Harold about Amanda and quickly realises Harold is a little bit keen. She spots lipstick on his shirt and tells him she knows that shade - it's called Hong Kong sunset and she doesn't wear it (Blimey Madge, even the girls on the Boots makeup counter couldn't recognise a lipstick shade at 20 paces like that!). Harold protests that there's a perfectly innocent explanation and she gruffly retorts that there'd better be!
At the Robinsons:
Lucy is upset that Jane is moving home, and she's not exactly doing cartwheels either. Helen tells her she must give her mother a chance to prove herself. Lucy sadly says at least she has a mum, she really misses hers. She needs to try and work things out.
At the Clarkes:
Daphne is pacing the floor with Jamie who won't settle. Uncle Mike offers to take over but Daphne is a bit touchy about it. She eventually gives in and, naturally, Jamie goes straight off again. They put him in his crib and Eileen starts fussing again. She and Daphne row which wakes Jamie back up. Eileen crows "Now see what you've done." Daphne throws the crib at her head (At least she should)
At Mrs Mangel's:
Jane and Amanda are having a girly chat. Amanda wants them to do something together at the weekend but Jane reminds her they should be sitting with Nan at the weekend. Amanda agrees to go and take some flowers. Now, time to go and unpack her stuff into half of Jane's wardrobe. Jane tells her there's no need - she's moving into her Nan's room. Amanda is upset, even though I've seen the size of Jane's room and you'd never fit two people in there.
At the Robinsons:
Jim is off for a date with Beverly. Lucy is keen to know all the details but Helen sends her off to do her homework instead. Rather that working Lucy moans about sports day the next day. She's not looking forward to it because she won't have a mother there like all the other kids. Helen sadly says that she has tried to take her place, now get on with your work. Being tactful for once Lucy tells her that she'll stop moaning, then gives her a hug and says that she loves her.
At the Ramsays:
Harold is dozing as Madge tries to have a serious conversation with him. He wakes up as she starts a row about how guilty she feels about Mrs Mangel. She tells him she is doing Mrs Mangel's job for her and he worries about her working too hard, which pleases her. He tries to hug her but she teases him that she wouldn't want to get lipstick on his shirt - Don Juan.
At the Clarkes:
Jamie is crying again while Daphne walks the floor again. Mike comes home and she sadly tells him that she doesn't know what she's doing wrong.
At Mrs Mangel's:
Amanda is rowing with someone on the phone about money being missing from a safe - "You can't prove that I took that money from the safe". Jane comes out and says she doesn't remember her father having a temper but Amanda tells her there's lots she doesn't know about her father. Jane worries that her mum is trying to get some sort of commitment from her now and Amanda promises to try and be patient. After all, they've got all the time in the world to get to know each other.
At the Clarkes:
Daphne is asleep on the couch. Jamie is asleep in his crib. Des comes in and wakes Daphne up who tells him Jamie was awake until 6.00. He sends her off to bed and she stumbles off, past Eileen who also looks like the living dead. Jamie kept her awake too. Des asks her why she didn't come and take over from Daph in that case and she tells him she offered, several times. "All I got was abuse." She wanders over to Jamie's crib and straight away wakes him up. Daphne bounces back in like she's on a piece of elastic and snaps at Eileen that she's had enough - she wants her to pack her bags and go.
