Number 32/Number 24
Aaron rants to David and Nicolette that Leo had plenty of time to change his mind about Abigail, so why now? Nicolette reminds him it was never going to be straightforward, while David believes that the combination of the gift and the lawyer probably tipped him over. But Aaron is adamant that Chloe's behind it all, "she's been in his ear for weeks".
Over at No.24, Chloe watches Leo with a fond smile as he cradles Abigail. She tells him that he made the right decision. "Yeah," Leo nods, glancing down at his daughter.
Aaron states that it was Leo's idea in the first place for he and David to take on parental responsibility. David understands, but he also told Aaron that his brother might change his mind. "Oh, well I'm glad you got what you wanted, David," Aaron retorts. Nicolette says Aaron's allowed to be upset, but Aaron insists he's not. Jane suddenly appears, wondering what all the tension is about.
Leo assures Chloe that Aaron didn't mean what he said, and apologises that she had to take the brunt of Aaron's anger. "David knows this is what's best for Abigail," Chloe quietly replies. "Aaron will get there."
David tells Aaron to put himself in Leo's shoes, asking if he could give Isla up. Nic adds that at the end of the day it's for the best Abi's with her dad.
AARON: Leo is not committed to being her dad.
JANE: Surely Leo deserves a chance?
AARON: We've given Leo a chance yet he still agrees that we are the best opportunity at giving Abi a stable life.
JANE: Still, Leo is Abigail's father.
AARON: No, Leo doesn't want to be her dad! Or at least he didn't until Chloe guilted him into changing his mind. I can't believe she has done this again.
NICOLETTE: Again?
AARON: Well you left before Isla was born because of what Chloe did, and we missed the birth of our own daughter. You guys can choose to forget all of that, go and knock yourselves out, but don't expect me to.
Number 22
Ned is sketching on the couch while Glen, Terese and Toadie chat in the kitchen. Toad asks how Terese got on with the divorce lawyers he recommended. Terese says she chose one and told them she wants a straightforward divorce, fair settlement and no bickering over assets. Toadie points out that might not be up to Terese, as Paul might drag out proceedings in the hopes she'll have a change of heart. "Let's hope that he surprises us all," he adds before heading home. Back in the kitchen Glen and Terese make dinner plans, teasing one another about Glen's pronunciation of quinoa and Terese's lack of technique when grating lime. Ned watches their interaction with slight trepidation.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Paul looks a bit worse for wear as he does some work on the laptop. Harlow's annoyed to find him up and about, reminding him that Chloe and Terese are looking after the business while he's meant to be recuperating. Paul casually states that he wanted to pop down and check out Terese and Chloe's schedules, but Harlow knows he just wants to keep tabs on Terese. He's surprised to learn that Terese has taken some leave and wonders if it's in aid of going on "more wacky adventures with Glen". Harlow tells him that from what she's seen, there's nothing going on between Glen and Terese, but Paul's not entirely convinced.
Number 32
Leo has brought Abigail back for a proper goodbye with Aaron and David. Aaron is quite sullen through the whole process and gives Abi a cuddle before reluctantly handing her back to Leo. David looks on forlornly as Aaron gives Abigail's toy rabbit to Leo.
After Leo and Abi have gone, David sits next to Aaron on the couch and makes an attempt to comfort him, but Aaron's not having it.
AARON: Do you not remember how hard it was the first time we had to hand back Abi?
DAVID: Yeah of course I do.
AARON: Well then how are you okay with this?
DAVID: Because this isn't the same as last time. We know Abigail isn't ours.
AARON: Tell me this, why did you change your mind?
DAVID: What do you mean?
AARON: Well one minute you're against signing anything and the next you go and organise a meeting with Pia.
DAVID: I just thought that-
AARON: You just thought what? I know what you were doing, you were trying to push Leo to change his mind, to scare him.
DAVID: Chloe mentioned that he-
AARON: (scoffing) Chloe - again.
DAVID: We all know how much Leo loves her.
AARON: My sister the mastermind, and my husband going along with the plan, knowing full well that it would break me.
Aaron has had enough of the conversation and leaves the room.
Number 22
Terese has swatches of material in different shades of grey because she wants to purchase a new couch. She asks Ned and Glen for their advice. Ned says he likes the one called 'Heather Grey'. Glen admits he doesn't have the same artist's eye, but the 'Concrete' shade doesn't really scream "fresh start". 'French Grey' sounds chic, 'Tiara' would be "fit for a queen" (earning an eyebrow raise from Ned), but the 'Young Night' sample looks the best. Smiling, Terese says she was considering that last shade too and thinks it's a sign. When she walks off to place the order, Ned can't help making a comment towards Glen.
NED: I'm not blind, Glen, and neither is Terese. I mean if I can see it, it won't be long before she can.
GLEN: Hey, my feelings aren't important. I'm not going to put that sort of pressure on Terese right now. I just want to help her through the divorce so there's no trouble from Paul.
NED: (not convinced) Okay.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Paul and Harlow are pleased when Leo drops by with Abigail. "Glad one of my sons are talking to me," Paul quips. He also says how glad he is that Leo changed his mind about giving up Abigail. Harlow asks how David and Aaron are coping, and Leo admits they're not doing too well. "I think it brought back a lot of painful memories for Aaron," he adds. Leo becomes worried when he sees Paul slug back some of his pain medication, but Harlow says Paul's just suffering from anxiety driven by obsession. Paul protests that he's not obsessed. He then asks if Leo's going to take some time off work. Leo says he'll try and work from home as much as he can, then he'll just take Abi to the winery when he has to.
LEO: I'll hand over as much as I can to Glen when he's back from leave.
PAUL: What, Glen's on leave too?
HARLOW: (warningly) Granddad.
PAUL: You think this is just a happy little coincidence that he's off at the same time as Terese?
HARLOW: See? Obsession. It's not healthy.
Melbourne Riverside
Harlow strolls along with Ned and Kyle, complaining about how consumed Paul is with Terese. She's worried if he's not careful he'll give himself a heart attack. They eventually reach the area where Amy has set up her Drinks Diva van. Amy's pleased to see them, Ned in particular, and asks what they want to order. Kyle and Harlow look a bit taken aback when Ned decides to order one of each thing off the menu (sixteen smoothies in total). But he's only doing it to show his support for Amy, which she appreciates.
Number 32 Backyard
Jane and David are putting together a jigsaw puzzle but David's not really concentrating. Jane reassures him everything will be all right, but David says Aaron was right about him manipulating the whole situation. But when Leo asked them to take on Abigail it felt like they had no other choice. Jane understands David had to help his brother, and she also knows just how much Leo appreciates their support. Chloe drops by in the hopes of having a chat with Aaron, but David tells her he's gone for a run.
DAVID: It's probably not a good idea right now anyway.
CHLOE: David I'm really sorry.
DAVID: It's not your fault. It turns out we were right, Leo just needed a push.
CHLOE: Well I'm happy to take the brunt until Aaron cools down.
DAVID: I wish it was that easy.
David gets a phone call from Paul, but isn't in the mood to talk and ignores him.
Lassiters Hotel Office
Paul leaves a voicemail for David. He knows they're not on speaking terms at the moment but he could really use some medical advice and wants him to call back ASAP. Glen then appears after being summoned by Paul, who 'casually' wonders if his offer of a road trip to the winery still stands. "We could go during your break," Paul states. Glen cagily replies that he's taking time out to recharge the batteries.
PAUL: And not because Terese is off as well?
GLEN: There is no me and Terese.
PAUL: Oh come on, we both know that if you had the opportunity you would take it. And if that happens, there is no hope for you and me. I want you to know that.
GLEN: I don't know what to say.
PAUL: See I lost my marriage, but I don't want to lose my brother too.
GLEN: I don't want that either. (Coming to a decision) Okay, nothing will ever happen between me and Terese. You have my word.
PAUL: Thanks, I appreciate it.

Amy approaches Aaron, who is sitting alone on a bench, and offers him a juice. She says it's a nice place to sit and contemplate life's problems and failures. Aaron thinks that sounds depressing, but Amy says it's mainly her failing one "seriously off-the-rails teenager". Aaron tells her about Leo changing his mind over Abigail, but Amy admits she'd already heard the news from Harlow earlier.
AMY: You've got every right to be upset.
AARON: I'm not upset, I'm just angry.
AMY: Well you've got every right to be that as well.
AARON: It wasn't that long ago we thought Abi was ours. We formed a bond with her, we loved her. We still love her.
AMY: (patting his back in sympathy) I'm sorry.
AARON: I knew that I was going to get too attached to her and I'm angry that I let it happen.
AMY: Well you haven't lost her, you're always going to be her uncle.
AARON: That's just not the same thing, though, is it.
Number 22
Terese finds out that Glen has been to see Paul and asks what he wanted. Glen says his brother just wanted to build a bridge and make time to fix things between them.
TERESE: So he's just had a sudden change of heart?
GLEN: He seemed pretty genuine.
TERESE: Well he always does. Believe me I've had more experience with him when it comes to his so-called honesty.
GLEN: He made himself very clear.
TERESE: Okay, well I'm happy for you. But you do have to remember that Paul always has an agenda. You told me that yourself. So whatever you decide to do just be careful.
Glen looks troubled as he watches Terese walk away.
Lassiters Complex
Paul is walking in a very laboured fashion past the Café, appearing as though every step is too much of an exertion for him. He carries on his way to the hotel, passing an oblivious Toadie who is collecting his mail from the PO Boxes. Toadie is happy when he sees Leo out and about with Abigail - he found out through the grapevine that they've been reunited. Leo knows he's made the right decision but he still feels scared about the future.
TOADIE: Yeah I know that feeling. I was pretty much the same when Sindi turned up on my doorstep with Hugo.
LEO: So what did you do?
TOADIE: Surprise babies, planned babies, they all have a way of making us doubt ourselves. So you just keep trying. You make mistakes, you learn from them and before you know it that connection just kind of creeps up on you.
Leo looks encouraged by this and thanks Toadie for his advice. He takes Abi out of her pram for a cuddle.
Melbourne Riverside
Aaron is startled to see David and Chloe turn up, but Amy calls out a sheepish "don't hate me!" from her van. Chloe knows she's the last person her brother wants to see right now but they're family, and families aren't meant to back away from each other. David knows Aaron is angry but he thought they could just sit together, if that was okay. Aaron doesn't reply, but allows David and Chloe sit with him in companionable silence as they stare out at the Melbourne city skyline.
Lassiters Hotel Office/Number 26
Paul staggers into the office, looking sweaty and dishevelled. He takes off his jacket and tries to call David but gets his voicemail again and doesn't leave a message this time.
Over at No.26, Kyle, Ned and Harlow drape themselves over the couches after making their way through all of the smoothies Ned bought. They look as though they're on a one-way trip to stomachache-ville. While Harlow and Kyle admit the smoothies were good, they don't want Ned to invite them along again the next time he tries to "crack back onto Amy". Ned protests that he wasn't. Harlow gets a phone call from Paul, but can't be bothered answering.
Lassiters Hotel Office/Number 22
Paul tries his luck calling Glen and is relieved when he actually answers. They chat a bit and when Glen hangs up, Terese asks what's going on. Glen says that Paul isn't feeling well and wants him to take him to the doctor. Terese is convinced that Paul is crying wolf and is only contacting Glen because he knows she'll hear about it.
TERESE: He's probably hoping that I'll come running like I always have.
GLEN: Maybe.
TERESE: Look I know you really want to trust him, but you're giving him exactly what he wants.
GLEN: (putting the phone down) Yeah, you're right.
Back in the office, Paul passes out and falls to the ground.
