No 26
Freya is all hyped up about how she and Levi will progress their search for Gareth. She suggests uploading all her notes to the cloud, but Levi says that's not a good idea; she agrees it's best they stay off-grid.
LEVI: Firstly, I need you to promise me, no more secrets. You tell me everything from now on.
FREYA: I promise. I swear... Thank you so much for this. After everything I've done, it doesn't really feel like I deserve it. So, thank you.
LEVI: Yeah, well - let's just find your boyfriend.
Roxy comes in, and coolly acknowledges Freya who, deciding she's outstayed her welcome for now, leaves. Roxy glares at Levi, waiting for an explanation.
LEVI: I agreed to help her find Gareth off the books.
ROXY: Levi!
LEVI: I know what I said, Rox, but she's gonna keep looking without me, and I don't want her getting hurt.
ROXY: If you keep spending time with her, you're gonna get your heart broken all over again (...) Are you forgetting about the gun that was held to your head?
LEVI: I'm doing this. End of story.
Harold's Café
Freya comes in, on the phone to somebody.
FREYA: I was hoping we could maybe catch up tonight. I'd love to come by and see the room, if it's possible.
The camera pans across to where Chloe is also on the phone, nearby. Unbeknownst to both of them, they're talking to each other!
CHLOE: Tonight is no good for me, sorry. I've, uh... I've just run a bath, actually, and then it's straight to bed.
Freya has now realised Chloe's right in front of her - but Chloe has her back to her, so hasn't seen Freya. Mischievously, Freya walks towards her, still talking.
FREYA: No, it's fine! Hope you've got that bath on slow fill, though. Or you just... drive really fast to get home.
Chloe finally realises Freya's in the same room, and turns around, mortified she's been caught lying!
CHLOE: I am so sorry. Uh... Levi's a neighbour.
FREYA (laughing): Nah, I get it. But just so you know, Levi and I are in a really good place at the moment. And if the room's still available, I'd love to at least chat about it with you.
Chloe has no real option but to agree, but looks worried as Freya moves past her.
No 32
David and Aaron are eating dinner, but apart - David at the table, Aaron at the counter. They're not speaking to one another. Nicolette comes in with Isla's pram, and senses the tension.
NICOLETTE: This is cosy (!)
Aaron walks out, saying he needs to check on Abigail.
NICOLETTE: Okay, you really need to sort this mess out.
DAVID: I'd be happy to, when he admits how unreasonable he's being.
NICOLETTE: And at that rate, our girls could be grandparents.
DAVID: And our marriage will be over.
David tells Nicolette about Chloe's suggestion to go along with what Aaron wants and start formalising the parenting order for Abigail. The process takes months, he explains, which would give Leo every chance to change his mind.
Aaron walks back in, grabs some baby clothes for Abigail, then goes straight back out again, without saying a word. Nicolette says the plan to go ahead with the parenting order may not be ideal, but...
NICOLETTE: Anything to stop you two from setting the new world record for social distancing.
David sighs.
Harold's Café
Freya is telling Chloe all about her good household habits in order to sell the idea of letting her move in. Chloe is impressed, but is still in two minds about letting Freya move in given all she's heard.
FREYA: I might not even find Gareth.
CHLOE: But looking for him could be just as dangerous. If things were different, I know we could have a really great time living together.
FREYA: Right?
CHLOE: I'm sorry.
FREYA (sighs): Don't be, it's fine. I'd probably do the same thing if I were you, as well. No, it just sucks to be me, I guess!
Freya thanks Chloe for hearing her out, and gets up to leave. Chloe looks conflicted.
No 26
Kyle and Roxy are watching TV. Levi comes in briefly, then heads out of the house to go for a run. Kyle and Roxy discuss their concern over Levi getting involved with Freya again. Roxy doesn't think Levi will listen to reason, so she has another idea.
ROXY: We do nothing.
KYLE: Nothing?
ROXY: Just think of the end result. We let Levi do his job. He finds Gareth. The quicker he does that, then the quicker Freya will be out of the picture.
KYLE (unconvinced): Anything could happen between now and then.
No 32
The next morning, Aaron is still giving David the silent treatment, but David sits on the sofa next to him to talk.
DAVID: I'm on board with the parenting agreement.
AARON: Just like that?
DAVID: No, not just like that. I hate this stand-off between us; it's not who we really are. But if this is what Leo really wants, then it must be for the best.
Aaron takes David's hands eagerly.
AARON: David - thank you. Thank you, thank you.
At this point Leo comes in; David's invited him over to discuss it. David says he's also scheduled a meeting with Pia, the family lawyer, later today so they can talk everything through. Abigail starts crying from next door, so Aaron goes to see to her, leaving David and Leo alone.
DAVID: It won't be easy watching someone else bring up your daughter.
LEO: Yeah, but you're not just anyone. You're my twin brother. And look, I'm really happy I can help you and Azza grow your family (...) The sooner we do this, the sooner it's official.
Leo gets a call from the vineyard, so goes out to take it. David looks frustrated.
No 22
Chloe, Roxy and Kyle are hanging out with Terese and having a cuppa, but Kyle is distracted worrying about Levi. Chloe is filling Terese in on tensions at No 32, but says she doesn't want to get too involved as Leo has already told her to butt out. Kyle is struggling to understand how Leo can give up his own daughter. But Roxy says they can't judge him just because they wouldn't do it with their kids.
TERESE: At least that's something that you two don't have to worry about for a while.
Roxy and Kyle smile at one another.
ROXY: Actually, we, umm... we've already started thinking about getting the ball rolling!
CHLOE: The baby ball?
ROXY: Yeah! We're prepared - everything's ready to go. Kyle has had his first check-up since chemo, and everything's positive - so it just feels right.
Chloe says that's amazing news, but Terese's reaction is more reserved, and suggests it might be a little too soon, given they've only just got married. But Kyle says it will take some time to go through the IVF process anyway. However, they've already booked an appointment at a fertility clinic to get more information - which is later today. Chloe smiles at Roxy's obvious excitement.
The Waterhole
Roxy and Kyle are still excited as they arrive at the pub; Roxy just wants to check her work roster before they head off to their appointment. Freya is at the bar, and while Roxy goes into the office, Kyle approaches her.
FREYA: I told Levi I was leaving.
KYLE: And yet, here you still are.
FREYA: Because he wants to help me. And I know I hurt him - I feel awful about it. But I just have to find Gareth, and then I'm gone. I promise.
Kyle says nothing, just looks sulky.
FREYA: You know, if someone in your family was missing, you'd probably do anything you could to find them as well.
KYLE: There's no point trying to convince me this is a good idea.
FREYA: He knows what he's doing. You should give him more credit.
KYLE: Levi's going off-book, with no support. What happens if things go belly-up - again? He's risking his entire career for you. So, if you were decent, you wouldn't have even asked him in the first place.
Kyle walks off. Freya looks worried.
Ramsay Street
Chloe approaches as David gets out of the car with Isla. David tells her he's taken her advice and decided to go along with the parenting order, as well as lining up the meeting with the lawyer.
DAVID: Tried to call Leo's bluff.
CHLOE: And?
DAVID: And I... I dunno. I'm sure, given time, Leo's gonna change his mind. But... maybe Aaron's right - maybe he never will, and...
CHLOE: He still might. I just hope, if he does, he'll say something - and not feel like it's too late, or he's letting you guys down.
DAVID: Yeah. I can't even begin to think about that.
David heads inside with Isla, to give Nicolette the news. Chloe looks worried as she walks off.
The City™
Chloe has brought Leo out to buy him lunch. She says it's her way of apologising, for interfering in the Abigail situation.
CHLOE: Can we please just be friends again?
LEO: Well, it depends how good the lunch is!
They arrive at the restaurant, and Chloe explains she's arranged for Kyle and Roxy to join them. Leo heads towards the entrance, and Chloe follows.
The Waterhole
Freya is having a coffee alone, and looking glum. Levi arrives to meet her, having received a text asking to meet, and asks her if all is okay.
FREYA: Why are you doing this? Helping me?
LEVI: Freya, come on - I've already told you why.
FREYA: You're risking your entire career for someone you literally met four weeks ago. Is it really worth it, just to have me out of your life?
Levi doesn't reply, just smiles at her.
FREYA: It's not, is it?
LEVI: ... Freya, I've already made my decision, alright? I'm not backing away now.
She smiles back, and accepts this. She asks Levi about IBAC, the anti-corruption board, and whether they're 'legit'. Levi says the clue's in the description.
FREYA: Okay. Well, then, I'll do it. I'll talk to them.
LEVI: Thank you.
They keep smiling at each other...
The City
Chloe, Leo, Kyle and Roxy are gathered at the restaurant, which is on the waterfront. Chloe asks Kyle and Roxy, 'How did it go?', meaning their fertility clinic appointment - but Kyle and Roxy are evasive, not wanting to discuss it in front of Leo. It would seem they're worried it's insensitive because he's giving up Abigail, but this is secretly why Chloe has arranged the dinner - to prompt a change of heart in Leo.
When pushed by Leo, Kyle admits they went to talk about IVF, but says they don't have to talk about it. Leo insists it's fine, and says he wants to hear their news. Roxy and Kyle get excited, and say it went really well - they're going to try insemination first because it's less invasive, and if it doesn't work, they'll go full IVF.
ROXY: We're gonna have a baby!
KYLE: Maybe two, or three, or four! (to Leo) Sorry...
LEO: Honestly, don't be. I'm so happy for you guys.
But he looks thoughtful as he says it, and Chloe watches him carefully to see if he's having doubts...
Lassiter's Complex
Freya and Levi are back from their trip to talk to IBAC about Gareth's disappearance. Freya thanks Levi, saying she couldn't have done it without him. Freya then gets a text and looks a bit concerned; Levi asks if everything's okay. Freya explains she had an appointment for a possible sharehouse in Anson's Corner, but they've just cancelled on her.
Levi asks about the idea of living with Chloe; Freya explains Chloe isn't keen, because word's 'got around' about her. Levi's apologetic, and says they should go and follow up some leads. Freya says she thought he wanted to let IBAC handle it.
LEVI: Yeah, they can do whatever they want. Doesn't mean I'm walking away. I want to do whatever I can off-book still, alright?
FREYA: Why?
LEVI: Freya, you ask that question a lot.
FREYA: I know, because you never actually answer it! Not properly, anyway.
LEVI: (...) I am not sitting around writing love poetry about you, if that's what you're thinking.
FREYA (teasing): What?! Not even a limerick?
The City
Leo is on a bridge near the restaurant, staring pensively into the water. Chloe comes over to join him, Roxy and Kyle having gone home.
LEO: Kyle's gonna make a great dad, hey? I thought I would, too. At the wedding, Brit and I finally decided (...) I actually started thinking about us being a family. It felt good. Except that's not gonna happen now, so...
CHLOE: So, you're giving your daughter away?
LEO: I'm doing what's best for Abi. She needs a family.
CHLOE: You don't need two parents to make a family.
LEO: It feels different.
CHLOE: That's because it is. But that doesn't mean it can't work. You're an amazing dad, and I know you love Abigail more than you want to admit right now.
LEO: I'm doing this *because* I love Abigail.
CHLOE: Giving up Abigail is a bad choice. And I wouldn't be a real friend if I didn't try and stop you from making a huge mistake.
Leo is conflicted.
Ramsay Street
Leo arrives in his car with Chloe. David tells Leo that Pia, the lawyer, should be here any second. But Leo says nothing, and simply walks past him into the house. David asks Chloe what's going on, but before she can explain, Levi turns up. He asks Chloe about Freya moving in; Chloe admits that she's heard Freya has been caught up in some 'intense' things, so decided she wasn't right for the house.
Levi tries to talk Chloe round, saying Freya has done all the right things now and reported her concerns to the authorities. David adds that Freya has been great so far in her role at the hospital.
LEVI: See? Hey, she's not dodgy, Chloe. She just needs a place to stay. Honestly, you'd be doing me a favour.
CHLOE: I dunno, Levi.
LEVI: Whatever you heard, I guarantee they don't know the full story. I promise. Please?
Chloe reluctantly says she'll run the idea past Mackenzie, but isn't making any promises.
No 32
Pia the lawyer has arrived, and David introduces her to Leo and Nicolette; she already knows Aaron from her last visit. Leo has picked up a package on his way in, which is addressed to Abigail. Aaron opens it - it's a baby outfit, with the words 'Daddy's number one girl' on the front. Aaron thinks it's cute, and seemingly assumes the 'Daddy' being referenced is him. That is, until he reads the note inside.
AARON: It is from... Britney. I guess it was... delayed in the post.
Aaron passes Leo the handwritten note. He wells up with emotion, and Nicolette reads it out.
NICOLETTE (reading): Leo, I know you don't need a reminder - you're the best dad ever - but I couldn't help myself. Britney, kiss, kiss.
For Leo, this is fate's way of telling him he's about to make a terrible mistake by giving up Abigail. Overcome with emotion, he tells Aaron, David and Pia...
LEO: I can't do this. I can't go through with it.
He then lifts Abigail from her pram.
LEO: I'm sorry, I... I can't give up my daughter.
Leo walks out with Abigail, leaving everyone else shocked.
The Waterhole
Levi and Freya are sitting at a table. Freya's on the phone to Chloe, and after she finishes the call, tells Levi that Chloe has offered her the room at No 24 after all. Kyle and Roxy have come in during this, and Kyle overhears this. He looks annoyed. Freya teasingly suggests to Levi that somebody must have gone in to bat for her with Chloe.
LEVI (teasing): Oh, whoever that was, they must not know you that well!
FREYA: Well, you're gonna have to start being real nice to me, cos we're gonna be neighbours.
LEVI: Joke's on you - I hate my neighbours!
As they laugh and flirt, Kyle continues to look annoyed. Roxy returns from the bathroom, and Kyle tells her about Freya moving in next door.
KYLE: How am I gonna stop Levi from ruining his life and career?
No 24
Leo has brought Abigail round to see Chloe. He's feeling guilty for his sudden change of heart.
LEO: I didn't even wait for their reaction, Chlo - I just took off. They're gonna be gutted.
CHLOE: They'll understand.
But Aaron doesn't understand, and bursts in at this point to demand an explanation.
LEO: Aaron, I'm so sorry, bro, I was wrong. I can't give her up.
AARON: Leo, we spoke about this!
LEO: I just... I...
AARON: You just what?!
CHLOE: Don't be mad at Leo. I encouraged him to change his mind.
AARON: Wait, what - you?!
CHLOE: He'd be giving up his baby, Aaron.
AARON: Leo said that this is what he wanted!
CHLOE: I know, but he's her dad.
Aaron can't believe what he's hearing.
AARON (to Chloe): So you went and did this out of spite?!
CHLOE: What? No!
AARON: Because you can't have your own kids. I can't believe you, Chloe.
Aaron storms out, leaving Chloe looking hurt.
