Lassiters Hotel Penthouse
Terese tries to tempt Paul into eating lunch but he claims he can't stomach it. Karl stops by to check in with Paul, saying that he didn't "seem himself" when he heard his test results earlier. Terese acknowledges that Paul isn't feeling great, so Karl decides to perform another check-up.
Number 32
David and Aaron are looking after both babies, and Nicolette can't help comment that Leo hasn't been around much lately. David replies that Leo has a lot of work on and it's nice that he's finally letting them help out with Abigail. Jane points out that Leo's at the stage of grief where you keep busy so you don't think about what you've lost. "Is that it though?" Nicolette asks. "Or is it that he doesn't want to sit with the reality of what's at home?" Leo arrives not long after and Aaron tries to give him Abigail to hold, but Leo says he only swung by to pick up some paperwork. David looks concerned when Leo leaves.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse
Paul asks Terese to get his painkillers from the bedroom, which gives him a chance to lay into Karl about not feeling better. Paul insists he knows his own body, which is why he wants to get a second opinion about his diagnosis. Karl doesn't think that needs to happen - they should just continue on the journey they've already started. "Yeah, well you would say that," Paul mutters. He adds that he doesn't want Terese to know the details because she's already upset enough. Karl's affronted, but Paul claims the care he's received thus far has been subpar, which is why he wants somebody else to help him. Walking back into the room, Terese clocks the tension and asks what's going on.
Number 32 - David and Aaron's Bedroom
Aaron asks David if Nicolette might have a point about Leo, but David says his brother is still grieving and work is helping. Aaron says that Leo hasn't been himself around Abigail lately and maybe they need to do less for him so he steps up. While David looks concerned, he says that Leo's had a lot on his plate lately and just needs more time. Aaron agrees for now but doesn't look too convinced.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse
Terese demands some answers, asking if the tension has to do with Paul's test results. Paul suddenly pretends he's in pain so he doesn't have to talk about anything medical related. He dismisses Karl, who looks upset that Paul has cast him aside. Paul makes a big show of struggling to get off the couch so Terese will help him back to bed.
Lassiters Hotel Exterior
Terese lets Chloe know that she may need more time away from work to keep helping Paul, but Chloe's got her covered. Around the corner, Glen talks shop with Leo about the winery but Leo's barely listening. Both men look uneasy when they realise Terese is behind them, and Glen quickly excuses himself to make a phone call. But Leo takes the opportunity to make amends with her.
LEO: Forget that legal stuff I spoke about yesterday. I shouldn't have lashed out like that. It was unfair and uncalled for. I'm really sorry.
TERESE: You were well within your rights to be upset, but thank you. So Paul told me about Abigail's accident - are you okay?
LEO: Yeah, yeah I'm fine.
TERESE: You know, as a parent I know how hard it is not to feel a sense of guilt when something like that happens. Even though deep down you know you're not at fault.
LEO: What, you think I feel guilty?
TERESE: Well I know guilt when I see it. And right now it's staring back at me every time I look into the mirror.
LEO: What happened to Britney, it's not your fault. But Abigail? That was all me.
TERESE: Like I said, I understand how you feel but I really wish you wouldn't.
Not wanting to get upset, Leo says he should get back to work and heads off. Terese and Glen swap awkward glances with each other across the complex.
Harold's Café
Susan tells Karl that he should never expect a smooth ride when it comes to Paul. "I wasn't expecting to hold hands and sing Kumbaya, but a modicum of respect would have been appreciated," Karl grumbles. It's also made him rethink doing house calls for friends in the future. Susan asks how Terese is taking it all, and Karl says Paul doesn't want to "burden her with specifics" but she's still worried. Karl wonders if he should go back over the test results in case he missed something, but Susan figures if Paul's hellbent on being someone else's mistake then Karl should just let him. David wheels in Abigail's pram and chats with the Kennedys, finding out about Paul questioning Karl's medical advice. David is also surprised to learn that Paul wants to find a new doctor.
The Waterhole
Toadie and Kyle talk to Ned about the joys of fishing. Ned sees Leo sitting with Glen and invites him along to their fishing expedition, but Leo declines. Glen has a quiet word with Leo, encouraging him to go with the boys. Even though fishing isn't Leo's thing, it's more about the camaraderie and getting some fresh air. "It might be a good idea to put your problems aside for a few hours and think about nothing," Glen adds. Leo still doesn't seem enthused, but when Glen figures Leo probably wants to spend time with Abigail instead, Leo looks as though he might be contemplating fishing after all.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse - Paul's Bedroom
As soon as Terese knocks on the door, Paul amps up how 'sick' he's feeling to garner sympathy. He tells her he's looking up liver specialists on the iPad because the hospital either botched his surgery, or Karl missed something during his recovery. Terese asks if Karl gave him a list of doctors to look at, but Paul would rather find someone himself. Paul also doesn't want them to discuss things any further with Karl or Susan. Terese says if Paul wants to take Karl out of the equation, that's his choice, but he needs to find a new doctor first.
TERESE: I'm sorry you're going through this, you must be so scared.
PAUL: I want to get better, Terese. Not just for me, it's for my family. I've got two new grandkids.
TERESE: (sympathetic) I'm sure you'll get the treatment you need. I've no doubt about that.
Beach
Leo and Glen have decided to tag along with Toadie, Ned and Kyle. They set up their fishing gear next to the water. While the boys banter about fish, Leo looks uneasy and decides to disappear.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse
David (and Abigail) call in to check up on Paul. David says he's happy to give him a free consult, but Paul says he's sick of talking about his health and would much rather cuddle his granddaughter. Terese wonders why David's got Abigail today, but David says Leo's busy working. David then tells Paul he knows about the situation with Karl. Paul states that whether Karl likes it or not, he's just not up to treating Paul, which David finds hard to believe.
PAUL: I want to find a doctor who knows what they're looking for, and I will not apologise or pander to his ego.
DAVID: Are you finished? Because we talked and Karl accepted that seeing a specialist was probably your best bet.
PAUL: (surprised) Oh. Oh good, good.
Beach
Toadie finds Leo sitting alone on a picnic table nearby. He reminds Leo about the chat they had about asking for help when he needs it. Leo claims he took the advice - David and Aaron are helping at home and Glen's helping at work. "Didn't really help, though, so thanks for that," Leo snits. Taking Leo's attitude in his stride, Toadie says he's got more advice for Leo.
TOADIE: Your life just isn't about practicalities. Your daughter and your business, they are important, and good on you for putting your hand up. But now it's time to ask for help for you. Your mental health. That is the most important thing. And yes, there is no magic cure, but I'm telling you talking about it, that does help. I get that it's not the easiest thing to start.
When Leo doesn't respond, Toadie says whenever Leo's ready he knows where to find him.
Number 32
Jane notices Isla's getting fussy and is probably ready for her nap. This isn't gelling with Abigail's schedule as she's fully awake and ready to party. Aaron thinks they should take the babies out in their prams, that way Abi can cloud watch and Isla can snooze. Nicolette isn't down with this idea, though, and doesn't think Isla should have to slum it in the pram for her sleep. She asks if Leo can take Abi, but David reluctantly admits that his brother has gone fishing.
AARON: (off Nic's look) We said it was okay. It'll probably do him some good.
NICOLETTE: Okay maybe I was being too subtle before. Leo keeps avoiding Abi since she fell off the couch, and even when he is here he's palming her off. Don't act like I'm the only one who's noticed.
DAVID: It was confronting, you can't blame him for being hesitant.
NICOLETTE: And I get that completely. But not having anything to do with his own daughter isn't the best way to deal with it either. Can we all agree on that?
Beach
Leo has decided to rejoin the fishing gang. Glen teases Toadie, saying that a guy who has a fish in his name should be better at catching them. Ned asks Leo if he's glad he came along and Leo says it was good to get out of his head for a while. "Maybe when Abi's a bit older you can start taking her," Kyle says with a smile, not realising the impact his words will have. Leo immediately shuts down again and walks away. Glen chases after him and Leo admits his guilt over what could have happened to Abigail. He says it's only due to luck that she's still alive, and that if Glen truly understood what he was going through he'd realise a day of fishing won't fix anything.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse
Terese thinks Susan has called in to talk about the friction between Paul and Karl, but Susan says she just wants to see how Terese is faring. Terese admits she's worried about Paul - he's scared and that scares her too. Paul eavesdrops from the hallway, listening in as Terese says this whole thing has reminded her deep down she doesn't want to lose him.
SUSAN: You still love him.
TERESE: Yeah, yeah I do and it's hit me for six. (Paul looks pleased) Plus living with Paul and Harlow again it's just reminded me of how much I miss our old life.
SUSAN: You do remember that Paul's questionable behaviour was part of that old life.
TERESE: Yes of course I do, but Paul has told me he can change and he has faith that he can. And maybe being this close to death, maybe it's the key. Look, I won't pretend it's not a long shot, but the fact that he says he can be a better person, maybe that's enough for me to take him back.
Paul looks incredibly pleased to hear this.
Number 22
Glen and Ned laugh about how seriously Toadie and Kyle were taking their fishing. Glen then says he was thinking about getting another tattoo and wonders if Ned could ink him. Ned asks if he's got a design in mind and Glen says he wants a small moon on top of his foot. "Interesting choice," Ned replies. He says they could schedule it for sometime during the week, but Glen says he's ready to get it done tonight if Ned's able to. Ned smiles and says he'll get his gear.
Lassiters Hotel Penthouse - Paul's Bedroom
Paul quickly scrambles into bed and acts miserable before Terese walks in. She sits on the bed next to him and feels his forehead to gauge his temperature. Terese says he's feeling a little warm and wants to get the thermometer, but Paul clings on to her arm and asks her to stay with him for a while. "When you're near me it seems to calm me down just a bit," he says, holding her hand. "You do know I couldn't have got through this without you by my side, don't you?" Terese looks into his eyes then leans forward to kiss him.
