No 26
As Sheila approaches the laundry, she sees somebody's foot behind the door, and gasps. But at that moment Kyle and Levi come in the front door, giving the intruder in the laundry a chance to escape. Kyle heads out into the garden to chase them, but returns, reporting that he can't find anyone. Sheila says they need to report it.
SHEILA: Someone has been messing with me all night, moving things around on their own, and doors opening by themselves... I am not going senile!
KYLE: No-one's saying you are.
SHEILA: Then what? One of you is gonna tell me what's going on, and you're gonna tell me right now!
Leo's Winery
Leo is giving Paul a tour of the winery interior. Leo's hoping to showcase wines from around the region in the bar area, but Paul thinks he should be pushing his own wines, as this would be more lucrative long-term. Leo says that's not part of the plan.
They head into the office, where Chloe is working. Paul continues to try to persuade Leo that he should be making his own wine as part of the business, given the infrastructure's already in place. Offloading Leo's grapes to other manufacturers is a waste, he thinks. But Leo just wants to focus on the restaurant, accommodation and functions offering.
Paul won't let up, but Leo isn't budging either, and says he and Chloe need to get back to work. Paul heads off, saying they can talk about it later. Leo retorts that there's no need!
LEO: Was that too subtle?
CHLOE: If your definition of 'subtle' is practically pushing him out the door, then yes!
LEO: He's doing my head in.
CHLOE: He's excited for you. You know how he gets when he's in business mode.
Leo suggests Chloe could head home now, but she seems reluctant to get back to Nicolette, saying she'd rather sort out the mess in the office sooner rather than later.
Leo says Nic will have to keep Chloe's dinner in the oven, and when Chloe says Nic doesn't really cook, Leo remarks that he hopes she pulls her weight in other ways! Chloe assures him Nic's better at housework than she is - and adds that Leo needs Chloe more than Nic does this evening. Leo wears a curious expression as Chloe gets on with the work.
No 26
Yashvi has turned up to investigate the intrusion at the Cannings'. Kyle reports that Sheila's in a bit shock but will be okay, and they join Levi and Sheila in the kitchen. Levi has been filling Sheila in on the situation with Mitch and Nelson.
SHEILA: It's just so sick. I mean, I gave those thugs a second chance and thought they'd clean up their act.
KYLE: Packo did. You know, one out of three ain't bad. Oh, Gran, this isn't your fault.
SHEILA: All those years they've been out there causing trouble with innocent people, and now they're torturing us again!
Yashvi suggests they go to the station to file a statement; even though they have no proof it was Mitch or Nelson who were here, she says it's worth putting on record. Yashvi will also make a statement herself about Hugo finding the toy train.
LEVI: Wait, wait, I thought we agreed we wouldn't say anything. We don't want to rile these guys up.
YASHVI: That was before they came into your house and terrorised Sheila.
LEVI: Exactly. And who knows what they'll do next once provoked? These guys are capable of anything.
YASHVI: But we have to do something, Levi.
LEVI: (...) You were meant to help, and all you did was lead them back here. And now you want to make things worse? Vee, just stay out of it.
Leo's Winery
Leo suggests to Chloe that they get a pizza delivered to eat while they work.
CHLOE: Yes, I could smash a Hawaiian.
There's the usual shtick about Leo not liking pineapples on pizza, Chloe thinking this is anathema, yada yada.
CHLOE: Nicolette is the same.
LEO: How are things in that department?
CHLOE: Fine. She just picks the pineapple off!
LEO: You know what I mean. Are you guys all good?
CHLOE: Why wouldn't we be?
LEO: Well, I just wondered if she was still okay with you working here. You mentioned she wasn't too thrilled at first.
CHLOE: Honestly, things are fine.
LEO: Then why are you avoiding going home?
CHLOE: You know why! This place is not gonna sort itself out.
LEO: Are you sure that's the only reason?
CHLOE: I've got 99 problems, but my love life ain't one. It's sweet that you're worried, but you don't need to be.
Chloe gets to ordering pizza, and Leo looks at her curiously.
No 30
Yashvi comes in, and picks up the toy train Hugo found. She looks pensive. Presently, she hears the back door rattling. As she approaches, she can see a figure fiddling with the door, trying to get in. Yashvi grabs a frying pan from the cupboard, goes to unlock the door, and is preparing to bash the intruder with it when...
HENDRIX: Argh! Not the face!
YASHVI (yelling): What are you doing sneaking around here?!
HENDRIX: I'm not sneaking around! I'm trying to get back in!
Mackenzie appears from her room, and says it's her fault - she must've accidentally locked the door. Hendrix takes a breath.
HENDRIX: Okay. You can put the weapon down now, please.
MACKENZIE: Is everything okay?
YASHVI: Y-yes. Just cop brain - occupational hazard.
Mackenzie invites Yashvi to join her and Hendrix on a night out in The City™, but Yashvi says she needs an early night. She looks shaken as Hendrix and Mackenzie leave.
No 32 / No 24
Aaron and David are in the kitchen at No 32, when they get a call from Nicolette, who is in the No 24 kitchen. She says she misses them, as she hasn't seen them since the antenatal class.
NICOLETTE: How good was it having Chlo there as part of the squad?
DAVID: Well, it was... different.
NICOLETTE: Speaking of, have you heard from her? I've sent her a bunch of texts and she's not replying.
DAVID: Well, Leo rang, said they're pulling a late one.
NICOLETTE: Oh! Would've been nice to know that, before I said no to a movie with Mum.
DAVID: I guess they're just under the pump.
NICOLETTE: Yeah, but Leo still had time to call *you*. It's fine. It's my own fault for dating a workaholic girlfriend. I'll check in with you guys later.
After the call, Aaron tells David...
AARON: She's not really putting our minds at ease, is she?
DAVID: I thought she'd pick up that we're not feeling great. But she's still too focused on Chloe.
AARON: Right? David, we can't go on like this. We need to speak to her, and before the next class.
They agree to talk to her tomorrow morning.
The next morning, David and Aaron are on the patio at No 32. Leo comes out; he's just about to leave for work.
David remarks that he's hardly seen Leo since he's been back because of his long working hours - Leo says it won't be like this forever, and suggests a 'bro date night' tonight. David's not convinced Leo will make it, so Leo suggests they come to the vineyard this morning instead to check it out.
However, Aaron reluctantly says they have to go and talk to Nicolette. Leo senses tension around the topic, and asks why.
AARON: It's nothing, it's...
DAVID: We just need to sort out some boring baby stuff with her.
Paul then turns up; he's been doing some number-crunching for Leo around making his own wine. It would require a bit of capital, Paul says, but he'd be happy to provide it.
LEO (interrupting): Absolutely not.
PAUL: Well, at least take a look at the projections before you make a decision.
LEO: Dad, I don't need your projections, and I don't need your advice. This isn't your business - just stay out of it.
Leo heads off to work.
PAUL: What's got him so grumpy?
AARON: Would you like a mirror?
No 26
Levi is sitting on the patio. Sheila and Kyle come out to join him; Kyle asks if he's heard from Yashvi.
LEVI: No. I doubt she wants to talk to me right now.
KYLE: Don't worry, cous. She'll come good.
Levi says he'll apologise to her later. Sheila is looking a bit tired; she admits she didn't get much sleep, thinking the 'ratbags' were back every time she heard a noise. Kyle says he was the same.
SHEILA: I just keep thinking about all the trouble they would've caused over the years, and I could've stopped it.
LEVI: Enough with the guilt. That's just letting them win.
SHEILA: They're winning because they're not facing any consequences.
Levi thinks they should let it go and hope last night was the end of it. But Sheila thinks Yashvi might be right that they should make a statement.
LEVI: She's not. Look, I'm just trying to protect us here, okay? (...) If we leave them alone, they'll leave us alone. Simple.
No 24
Nicolette seems put out that Chloe isn't staying for breakfast, but she says she's already running late to meet Leo.
NICOLETTE: Will you be home for dinner tonight?
CHLOE: I'm not sure.
NICOLETTE: Could you text me to let me know? I'll have dinner ready.
CHLOE (hurried): Yep.
NICOLETTE: It's just, I'm waiting for last night's reply, that's all.
CHLOE: I did mean to write back, but I was helping Leo and I forgot. Can you forgive me?
NICOLETTE: Depends. Will you be home before bed tonight?
CHLOE: That I can guarantee. Maybe we could watch a movie, or have a swim under the stars?
NICOLETTE: How about both?
This is agreed, and Chloe heads off to work, just as David and Aaron arrive to chat to Nicolette.
NICOLETTE: Why do I get the feeling I'm in trouble.
AARON: It's...
DAVID: You're not in trouble.
AARON: No. But Nic, I think we do need to have a bit of a talk.
NICOLETTE: I'm listening.
DAVID: It's what you said to Pierce, about you and Chloe having the baby.
NICOLETTE: I thought we cleared all that up. My moment of madness, remember?
AARON: No, look, Nic - you and David had a chat, but we never spoke. I just feel like this whole thing has been swept under the rug here.
DAVID: And at the antenatal class, it seemed like you only wanted Chloe involved. That we were just being pushed to the side.
NICOLETTE: So I wanted to spend some time with my girlfriend. Is that a crime?
AARON: I mean, it was our antenatal class, wasn't it? I thought we had an agreement here.
NICOLETTE: I know exactly what we agreed!
DAVID: It may be something that's happening subconsciously, but we're worried.
NICOLETTE: What is it exactly that you're accusing me of?! ... You know what? I don't want to know.
She marches off to her room, leaving David and Aaron looking frustrated.
Erinsborough Police Station
Levi comes in, and apologises to Yashvi about what he said to her last night - he was worried for Sheila, and overreacted.
YASHVI: Can we talk about this later?
LEVI: I know you're looking out for me, and I know you're keeping an eye on Mitch and Nelson. And you're a good mate, Vee, but I honestly think that if we just leave these guys alone, they won't bother us anymore.
But Yashvi simply gestures past Levi to the window of the interview room behind them. Mitch and Nelson are standing there, with a police supervisor.
LEVI: Vee, please tell me this isn't what I think it is.
YASHVI: I'm gonna question them until they admit to what they did.
LEVI: There's no chance that happens!
YASHVI: Yeah, probably not. But at least they know they can't intimidate us, and maybe with the police on their back, they'll stop.
Levi thinks this is a bad idea, but Yashvi isn't dropping it.
YASHVI: They threatened our families. Something needs to be done.
She heads next door, and leads Mitch and Nelson in for an interview.
Leo's Winery
Chloe tells Leo not to be too hard on Paul - he's only trying to reconnect with Leo, so things are back to exactly how they used to be between them.
CHLOE: Paul and Leo - two peas in a pod.
LEO: Yeah, I don't it'll ever be like that again. Dad just needs to get used to how it is now. And besides, I don't need another pea in my pod. I've got you.
Chloe looks slightly awkward.
LEO: What?
CHLOE: Uh, I just had a mental flashback - that I probably shouldn't share.
LEO: No, now you have to.
CHLOE: It's R-rated. You, behind the desk at Lassiter's. Me, climbing over it to get to you.
LEO: Yeah. There was nothing stopping you that night!
CHLOE: Like you even tried!
Hendrix comes in with Mackenzie; he's giving her a tour of the winery.
HENDRIX: The office - occupied by B1 and B2.
CHLOE: Excuse me! Neither of us are bananas!
LEO: Or in pyjamas.
HENDRIX: Boss 1, Boss 2.
Mackenzie thanks Leo for giving Hendrix the chef opportunity, saying he can't stop raving about it. Chloe jokes that Hendrix had better be good, or he'll be on the chopping block.
CHLOE: Am I right, B1?
LEO: I think you are, B2.
Leo gazes at Chloe, perhaps a little wistfully.
The Waterhole
Levi is moaning to Kyle about Yashvi having pulled in Mitch and Nelson for questioning. Sheila brings them coffees and joins the conversation.
LEVI: I hate the way Mitch stares at me (...) I get it every time I see them now - like I'm scared, or a little kid or something. And I hate myself for giving them that much power over me. I'm supposed to be a cop. I can't even take care of my own family.
SHEILA: Now, listen here to me, Levi Obi Francis Canning. You need to be kinder to yourself.
But Levi's not in the mood, and heads out for a walk. Once he's gone, Sheila tells Kyle she wants to talk to Mitch and Nelson.
KYLE: Not a chance!
SHEILA: I was able to have my say to Nathan, I should be able to do the same with those two thugs.
KYLE: Gran, that was different, okay? Packo had changed.
SHEILA: Yeah, I don't care. I'm not gonna let them ruin Levi's life for a second time (...) What if they walk free for this? The least they deserve is getting a piece of my mind -
But Kyle interrupts, telling her to just leave it.
No 32
Aaron and David are sitting with their legs in the pool, when Nicolette approaches, and comes to sit between them.
NICOLETTE: I'm sorry about before, guys.
DAVID: We just want to clarify what's going on here, and I'd be keen for us to reiterate what our arrangement is.
NICOLETTE: I am for that, and I get it. Look, I think I know what's going on. And it's not subconscious, and it's definitely not what you think. I'm just so relieved that Pierce has left (...) He didn't ruin things between us, or me and Chloe. I mean, I came so close to losing her that I just... want to hold on so tightly. Probably a little too tight. Does that make sense?
David and Aaron look unconvinced.
NICOLETTE: I was just so happy that Chloe was there with us - it was more about quality time with her - that it never occurred to me that it would feel like we were taking over from you two (...) But I promise, there was nothing in it. I never want to make you feel like you aren't the primary carers, because you are.
AARON: We never wanted to doubt you, Nic. It's just...
NICOLETTE: I know. And you wouldn't have to, if I didn't say that stupid, insensitive thing to Pierce. You will always be the number ones with this baby, I promise. Even if I am fawning ridiculously over your sister.
DAVID: We appreciate you explaining to us.
NICOLETTE: Cos honestly, all that matters is that we're okay.
AARON (hesitant): Yeah. Yeah, we are.
NICOLETTE: Good. Because we have a birth to prepare for, and I can't do it without you.
They all smile.
Erinsborough Police Station
Yashvi is interviewing Nelson. Sergeant Rodwell is sitting in, and looks increasingly impatient throughout.
NELSON: I was home watching telly.
YASHVI: What were you watching?
NELSON: Bridgerton.
We switch to an interview with Mitch.
MITCH: I was out walking the dog.
YASHVI: All night?
MITCH: Pretty much.
YASHVI: Can anyone verify this?
MITCH: Yeah... the dog.
We switch back to Nelson's interview. Yashvi tells him that not cooperating won't help.
NELSON: I'm here when I don't have to be. How's that uncooperative?
Back to Mitch - and Yashvi asks him when he was last on Ramsay Street.
MITCH: Where's that?
YASHVI: Stop playing dumb!
MITCH: You guys are the ones creeping around our work. I feel like I should be asking *you* the questions. Can I go now?
YASHVI: Not till you admit to the intimidation tactics against me and the Cannings.
MITCH: You would know all about intimidation tactics, wouldn't you? But you're wasting your time coming after us. We didn't do anything.
YASHVI: Stop lying!
But Rodwell's had enough.
RODWELL: Look, leave it there.
YASHVI: But I have more questions.
RODWELL: We're *done*, Constable Rebecchi.
MITCH: Should I call a cab, or do you... I've got it.
Mitch walks out smugly. Rodwell looks at Yashvi with exasperation.
Lassiter's Complex
As Mitch and Nelson walk out of the police station, Sheila approaches. They walk past her, but she follows.
MITCH: Oh, Mrs Canning! Blast from the past.
SHEILA: Oh, zip it. I want a word with you two!
MITCH: When was the last time we saw you? 2010 or something?
SHEILA: Last night!
MITCH: People keep saying that.
SHEILA: You two listen to me! I'm only gonna say this once. You stay away from Levi, stay away from my street, and stay away from my family. Because if anything happens, I won't be keeping my mouth shut a second time.
Mitch and Nelson laugh.
SHEILA: Oh, funny, is it? You two could have made something of yourselves, but look how you've ended up. Two pathetic no-hopers.
Nelson and Mitch get right in Sheila's face.
NELSON: Shut up, Grandma!
MITCH: We're not kids anymore.
They walk off, leaving Sheila looking rattled.
Leo's Winery
Leo asks Hendrix to hold the fort, while he and Chloe go to see the apron supplier. But Hendrix tells Chloe and Leo they have to stay, as he has a surprise to say thank-you for giving him the job. Mackenzie is still here, and says Hendrix has been planning it all morning.
CHLOE: Mr Aprons could wait until tomorrow.
Leo agrees, and Hendrix and Mackenzie do a little celebratory dance, before going to start preparing.
LEO: Oh, to be young and in love. What's that like again?
CHLOE: Aww, been a while?
LEO: Something like that, yeah. Not for you, though, right? ... Chlo?
CHLOE: ... Nic and I are not exactly in a honeymoon period.
Lassiter's Complex
Rodwell is giving Yashvi a lecture outside the station, saying she had no right to launch a surveillance operation against Mitch and Nelson at their workplace, or bring them in for questioning - so she only has herself to blame. Levi approaches and asks what's going on.
YASHVI: They've made a harassment claim against me. They made out like they were the victims.
LEVI: Sarge, these guys are bad news. They shouldn't be taken seriously.
RODWELL: I have no choice. (To Yashvi) I hope this doesn't cost your career.
