The Hive
Nicolette clutches her bloodied hand to her stomach as she cries out for her baby. In the main space, Curtis scrambles around in the dark for the missing piece of his implant but finds it damaged beyond repair. He leaves The Hive and Nicolette falls into unconsciousness.
Number 32
David suggests a game of Risk to Aaron and Chloe, but Chloe wants to wait until Nicolette returns before they start playing. They're surprised to see Brent and Emmett home early, but Brent says his mate wasn't feeling well and Emmett claims Paul had work to do. Chloe sends a text to Nicolette to see how long she'll be, then follows David and Aaron into the back room. Once they're alone, Brent and Emmett have a hushed conversation about the botched burglary, but Brent believes that Holden won't snitch on them. Emmett wants to know what their next step is, so Brent tells him they'll lay low and find another way to make some cash. "A plan that doesn't involve breaking the law," Emmett insists.
The Hive
Jane has stopped by to help Curtis move the tools to the school but finds the place dark and empty. While she's leaving a voicemail for Curtis, she hears a message tone go off in the room. Jane's concerned when she finds Nicolette's phone on the ground and even more alarmed when she discovers her daughter trapped under a shelf, unconscious. Jane quickly calls for an ambulance.
Number 32
Emmett tells Brent that trying to steal something was a really stupid idea. Brent gets a text from Harlow but chooses to ignore it, too wrapped up in how he's going to come up with money to leave Number 32. The boys are shocked when Chloe, Aaron and David walk in and tell them that Nicolette's in hospital. David asks Brent to stay with his brother while they go and see her. Emmett and Brent get another shock when they hear Nicolette was hurt at The Hive. When the trio leave, Emmett asks Brent if Nic was the one they heard before they bolted.
BRENT: Look, whether it was or it wasn't, you need to keep your mouth shut. Got it?
EMMETT: What if Holden did something to her?
Brent looks troubled by this thought.
The Hive
Nicolette gets wheeled into an ambulance while Jane speaks with Levi and Curtis. Jane realises Curtis's cochlear implant has been damaged, and asks if he saw anything earlier. Curtis says that he saw the burglar right before he broke the coil from his implant, that's when Curtis ran to the police station for help. He also feels terrible for not realising Nicolette was inside the building. While Levi takes a statement from Curtis about the burglar he finds out the culprit was wearing a distinguishable ring. Jane heads outside to ride in the ambulance with Nicolette.
Erinsborough Hospital
Chloe, David and Aaron arrive and ask Jane for an update. Jane tearfully tells them that Nicolette is still unconscious and went straight into emergency as soon as they got there. The paramedics thought Nicolette might have had an injury to her cervix. Chloe asks if that means the baby's in danger. David says it's hard to say, "but it's not looking good for either of them."
Emmett and Brent get to the hospital a short while later. Brent mutters to his brother that he's tried to contact Holden a few times but he keeps ignoring his calls. Aaron isn't too happy to see the boys there after he specifically told them to stay home, but the boys insist they were too worried about Nicolette. Brent asks if she said anything at all, but Aaron explains she's been unconscious the whole time. Aaron tells them not to stress and encourages them to go home.
Some time later, Doctor Stevie Hart comes out and gives Jane, David and Chloe an update on Nicolette's progress. She lets them know Nicolette has a minor cervical laceration and has also suffered an amniotic fluid embolism. Confused, Jane asks David for more clarification.
DAVID: It's when amniotic fluid from around the baby passes into the mother's blood stream. It usually only happens when there's trauma to the placenta barrier. It's extremely painful, which is maybe why she passed out.
CHLOE: What does amniotic fluid in the blood do?
DOCTOR HART: A few things, but most are manageable.
CHLOE: Most? What if it isn't?
DOCTOR HART: The fluid means there's a higher risk of blood clots. Also, decreased oxygen in the blood could damage Nicolette's heart and brain as well as the baby's.
DAVID: (clocking Jane's distress) But that's worse case scenario. It's being closely monitored right now.
Jane asks if she can see Nicolette but she's not allowed to yet. David heads off to give Aaron the update and Chloe says she needs to go too. Jane thinks Chloe should stay in case Nic wakes up, but Chloe looks extremely shaken up and has to bolt.
Number 28
Susan's asleep on the couch when she hears an insistent knocking at the door. She's surprised to find Curtis there and notices he's upset. Curtis explains about the burglary at The Hive and how he couldn't hear that Nicolette was trapped inside because of the damage to his implant coil. Susan asks if he can hear okay now, and Curtis says they gave him a temporary replacement at the hospital. Susan gently walks him to the couch and says whatever happened isn't his fault, offering to make him a cup of tea so they can keep talking.
The Hive
Levi sees Chloe walk in and rushes over to remind her she's in an active crime scene and can't disturb anything. Chloe wants to know what the cops have to go on so far. Levi says Curtis gave them a pretty good description of the culprit, and whoever it was knew the passcode to the alarm system. Chloe gets frustrated that they aren't doing more to solve the case and angrily says they should chase up the suspect and throw him on the ground just like he did with Nicolette. Sensing that Chloe's going through it, Levi ignores her outburst and asks if she's okay.
CHLOE: My girlfriend's in intensive care, her baby's in danger, I really can't afford to lose anyone else I love.
LEVI: Why don't you go back to the hospital and just be with your family.
CHLOE: Because I can't do anything there! They won't even let me see her. That's why I want to find out who did this.
LEVI: We'll catch him, Chloe. So go be with Aaron and David, I'm sure they'd appreciate it.
Erinsborough Hospital
Jane is relieved when Doctor Hart says she can go in and see Nicolette, but David and Aaron have to wait their turn. Jane looks distraught when she sees Nicolette in her hospital bed and sits down beside her daughter while trying not to cry. David and Aaron hold hands as they continue to wait near the reception desk. When Chloe returns, she hovers by the door of Nicolette's room but disappears before Jane can see her standing there. Chloe goes out to sit with David and Aaron and scrolls through her phone, looking at photos of herself and Nicolette in happier times. Jane keeps her vigil by Nicolette's bedside.
Number 32
The next morning, Brent tells Emmett that Holden finally got back to him and explained that Nicolette just got in his way. Brent assures Em that Holden wouldn't have deliberately hurt her, but he was really annoyed he didn't get to steal all the tools. Emmett asks if Holden told anyone they were there, but Brent's still convinced he wouldn't. Brent gets a surprise when Harlow suddenly appears, back early from her trip. She's all smiles and happy greetings, but Brent's cold with her. He doesn't understand why she's there when she clearly broke up with him, but Harlow says that's not what happened at all. She even bought him a souvenir mug while she was over there. Bamboozled, Brent tells Harlow he can't deal with their situation right now and walks out. Harlow's confused, and even more so when Emmett explains that Brent's probably worried about Nicolette, not in the loop about the accident.
Erinsborough Hospital
Jane and Chloe are thrilled when Nicolette finally opens her eyes and talks to them. Chloe explains that Nic had an accident and asks if she remembers anything. Nicolette is immediately concerned about the baby, so Doctor Hart steps in and explains the amniotic embolism to her. She adds that they're running more tests but Nic and the baby were both stable overnight. Nicolette breathes a sigh of relief and Jane assures her they're both going to be fine. Chloe goes out to get David and Aaron. Jane strokes Nicolette's hair and calls her "my precious girl."
Number 22
Terese brings Harlow a cuppa and says they should get an update on Nicolette soon. Harlow says she's also worried about Brent and actually decided to come home early because he'd been dodging her calls and she wanted to assure him that she wanted to be with him. Terese is concerned that Harlow cut her trip short just for Brent, but Harlow says she was ready to come home anyway. Terese hopes Harlow got the clarity she needed and Harlow says she did; she realised her and Prue have very different approaches to relationships. Harlow likens it to the excursions Prue used to take her on to the National Gallery when she was a kid. Prue would always make up lavish stories about the paintings, but when Harlow saw them through a more mature lens, she realised that Prue was all about make believe and fairytales. While Harlow is more about substance and reality.
TERESE: Your mum was a rose-coloured glasses kind of person.
HARLOW: Especially when it came to romance.
TERESE: Yeah, but that's not like you.
HARLOW: No. Stark, unvarnished reality for me please. I never really pictured Brent as a romance hero anyway. I like him warts and all.
TERESE: I'm sure he was just distracted by Nicolette earlier.
HARLOW: Maybe.
The Waterhole
Emmett doesn't understand why Brent wasn't happier about Harlow coming to see him, but Brent says it's too late for all that now. They see Levi speaking with Susan and Curtis and try to stay out of his line of sight. Over by the bar, Levi shows Curtis the sketch of Holden and Curtis acknowledges that it's the same person he saw last night. Levi says that the mention of the ring made him think of the same culprit. Susan asks if it's the same person who attacked Roxy. Levi replies that it's a possibility and that he's part of a young homeless gang, but he doesn't know why he had access to The Hive's security system. Levi thanks them then sees Brent and Emmett on the couches so goes over for a chat. He shows Brent the sketch of Holden and asks if he looks familiar. Brent is quite cagey but Levi says he thought Brent might have seen him while he was working at The Hive. So Brent pretends to take a closer look before saying he doesn't recognise the guy. Levi gets a text letting him know Nicolette's awake and cleared to talk, so he heads into the hospital to question her.
Erinsborough Hospital
Aaron and David fuss over Nicolette and Chloe lets her know that Levi's on his way to speak with her. Looking tired, Nicolette tells the guys they're not going to like what she has to say to Levi. They're confused when Nicolette explains she was at The Hive because she followed Emmett there.
NICOLETTE: Last night at dinner he was on the computer acting really strangely. So I snuck a look and he'd been researching the price of power tools.
AARON: Are you sure?
NICOLETTE: Well, yeah. And I had a hunch he wasn't off to go play chess so I trailed him.
DAVID: That doesn't sound like Em, lying.
NICOLETTE: Well I saw him go inside. And when I followed him in he wasn't there, it was just that guy in the middle of the burglary. I don't know how Em's connected.
CHLOE: Could it be through Brent? He's got connections to The Hive. Levi said the burglar had the alarm code, and it was his laptop Em was looking at. Maybe he suspected something and went to find him?
AARON: No, look, that is a lot of speculation.
DAVID: There has to be another reason.
Nicolette doesn't look convinced.
Lassiters Complex
Susan and Curtis bump into Jane as she emerges from Harold's with a coffee. They ask after Nicolette and Jane says she's awake and already pretending like nothing happened. Jane pauses the conversation when she gets a phone call, which turns out to be from a college in Mildura curious about the Year 13 program. Jane arranges another time for the chat and hangs up. In regards to the program, Curtis says he should have listened to Jane as she was right about the tools being a risk.
JANE: As it turns out it wasn't just about the tools.
CURTIS: Yeah. I don't know what this will mean for the Year 13 program.
JANE: I don't know that now is the right time to discuss that.
SUSAN: (turning to Curtis) Yes, maybe we should have this conversation a bit later.
JANE: (sarcastic) Oh, how refreshing to hear you make a good suggestion, Susan.
Susan looks quite taken aback and Jane excuses herself and leaves.
Number 32
Brent has decided that he and Emmett need to leave Ramsay Street ASAP, which is stressing out Emmett. But Brent knows that with Nicolette awake and Levi asking questions, it's only a matter of time before he's found out. Emmett thinks that if they stay, though, Aaron and David might help them out as they've actually been pretty good lately. He also points out that Brent can't leave Harlow now either, but Brent says he needs to go before she figures out what a huge loser he is.
EMMETT: I don't want to, please!
BRENT: You don't understand. I've got a criminal record, and if the cops catch me I'll go to jail.
They're interrupted by David and Aaron coming home and immediately calling a family meeting. Nicolette told them she followed Emmett to The Hive last night and they want the teen to be honest with them. Emmett goes to stand with Brent as David and Aaron say they also know Brent is privy to how the alarm system works. And they know Emmett was looking up power tools yesterday.
DAVID: We have to ask; were you involved in the robbery last night?
Harlow chooses that exact moment to pop over and she's troubled to say the least. "You weren't involved, were you?" she asks Brent. Just as Brent's about to answer, Emmett butts in and takes the blame. "I did it," he says, much to David and Aaron's shock. "I set the whole thing up. It's my fault Nicolette got hurt."
