Previously
- Emmett overhearing Aaron and David wondering if they've taken on more than they can handle.
- Brent telling Emmett that once they get money, they will take off.
- Brent eyeing up the expensive power tools delivered to The Hive for the school project.
- Brent making contact with Holden to alert him to a job he might be interested in.
- Nicolette having doubts that Aaron and David can cope with the boys and a newborn.
- Hendrix and Mackenzie having 'a moment'.
Number 28
Mackenzie and Hendrix quickly spring apart after their 'moment' and both suddenly have urgent things needing doing elsewhere to get away from each other!
Number 32
Harlow calls for Brent but he cancels her call and is just beginning to tell Emmett about their impending departure (next week) when Aaron and David come out (briefly) to tell the boys of the supper plans. When they go back indoors, Emmett quietly tells his brother that next week is too soon as they won't have the money, but Brent explains he has a job interview this afternoon. From the look on Emmett's face, Brent backtracks and says it's a "one off thing" and when Emmett asks if its dodgy, Brent simply says that he has things "under control."
Number 30
Mackenzie arrives home and is after a chat with Yashvi, but she is running late for work so can't help and instead it's Toadie who volunteers his ears. She tells him about 'the moment' with Hendrix and how she doesn't want things to get weird with him. Toadie asks if they talked about it and she replies no because she bolted. Mackenzie's now fretting that about what Harlow is going to say to her and worried "she's going to hate me!" "Don't jump the gun," he warns her and suggests talking to Hendrix. She agrees to do that but then wonders "what if he doesn't feel the same way?" before declaring the whole thing "a disaster!"
Eden Uni/The Hive
Brent stands looking at the drawing of Harlow on the mural before getting out his phone to call Holden, who is outside The Hive casing the joint (Brent is going to provide the key and alarm code.) Brent tells Holden about the power tools (worth around $10-15k) he will find inside the building. The pair negotiate over the cut of the money, eventually settling on a 30-70 split "with all debts paid."
Ramsay Street
Given Brent cancelled taking his brother's call, Emmett leaves a voicemail instead - asking how the job interview went and adding that he doesn't "get into anything too risky." Emmett is very evasive about the call when David comes out of the house (on his way to change the gas bottle) and the lad turns down the invite to go with him saying he's got schoolwork to do.
Harold's café
Jane isn't too happy to hear from Curtis that all the power tools are at The Hive. Even though he assures her they're "completely safe" there, she wants them moved to the school ASAP and isn't taking no for an answer!
The Waterhole
Chloe is the one to hear Hendrix's side of 'the moment' although he makes it very clear that he simply sees Mackenzie as a friend, and definitely not one "with benefits" as she suggested.
Toadie interrupts their chat to suggest to Hendrix that he goes see Mackenzie so they can discuss things. Hendrix doesn't think there is a need to chat but his mindset seems to change when Toadie mentions that she is keen on him... although that then changes to one of despair when Toadie leaves!
Harold's café
After having heard Jane say that she wants the power tools moved from The Hive, Brent calls Holden to tell him to get a van for tonight but doesn't go into any other detail.
Nicolette mistakes what Brent is tense about (talking to Harlow) when she comes over with his drink. The pair are discussing Harlow (and whether it is on or off between them) when Yashvi interrupts wanting permission to put up a 'wanted' poster with the sketch of Holden. Both Nicolette and Brent deny knowing the person in the sketch although Nicolette is starting to do the maths after Brent suddenly leaves the café.
Flamingo bar
Hendrix is all set to chat to Yashvi about Mackenzie, after he wrongly thought she knew everything, when the lady in question walks into the bar. Cue huge awkwardness before Hendrix decides to head off! Putting together the snippets Hendrix said before Mackenzie arrived and what she said after he left, Yashvi asks "did something happen between you two?"
MACKENZIE: No...not really...no...
"We almost kissed," Mackenzie eventually adds onto her bumbling reply and hears Yashvi say that Hendrix is into her.
MACKENZIE: This is a disaster!
YASHVI: Are you sure?
MACKENZIE: Yes, absolutely! I just wish that we could put all of this behind us. We can do that... can't we?
YASHVI: No! But I can buy you a drink!
Number 32
Emmett is jumpy as anything as the adults come into the kitchen and start talking about why Brent isn't home - he'd texted to say something come up with a mate. The lad tries to excuse himself on the pretence of going out for a walk but is told no, as it will be dinner soon and he's still got schoolwork to do.
After Emmett heads outside to set the table, Aaron asks, "what was that about?" but David isn't sure other than the lad was "acting a bit weird" earlier too.
With all the other adults and Emmett outside, Nicolette goes over to see what Emmett was looking at on his laptop and we can see it's an online site selling power tools. Nicolette is now highly suspicious!!!
The Waterhole
When she runs into Curtis in the bar, Jane apologises for how tense things were between them earlier. "Don't be," he replies, adding that she is right to be worried especially as the school is liable for any loss given it was donated equipment. Jane asks if he needs help, but he is fine and is going to shift them after dinner.
Number 32
Having completed his schoolwork, Emmett finally gets permission to leave the house... but only because he's lied and said he is playing chess with Paul. Nicolette questions if the lad will be okay going out, but she's assured he will be fine as he is only going next door. She then announces, on the pretext of checking Harold's, that she needs to head out and leaves the others to play their weekly board games.
The Hive
Holden and Brent enter the building and see the 'goodies' sitting waiting for them. To make it seem genuine, and deflect attention from Brett, they plan to cut the power and break a window so it appears it was a random who "got lucky." "Nice to have you back," Holden comments but Brent makes it clear that it's a one-off and hands back his 'membership ring'. "Let's get this over and done with," Brent says before they then start relocating the power tools from The Hive to the van sitting outside.
Flamingo bar
After coming in to see if Mackenzie wants a lift home, the girls rope Toadie into helping Mackenzie compose her 'letting Hendrix down gently' text message. He is forced to admit he thought she was keen on Hendrix, and so gave him "a not completely accurate sense of your feelings." "I just didn't want it to be weird," (and also a mistake) she explains to Toadie and seconds later she is rushing out of the bar saying, "I need to talk to him in person."
"I was just trying to help," Toadie explains to his niece, especially in the aftermath of Dipi and Shane's departure.
YASHVI: You don't need to replace mum and dad. You just need to chill and listen. Didn't you learn anything from Callum's teenage years?!
TOADIE: He really didn't date a lot.
YASHVI: Oh... I wonder why?! Well here's a piece of advice for Nell and Hugo - sometimes less is more.
The Hive
Having made is way to The Hive, Emmett enters via an open door and creeps inside the building. Hot on his heels is Nicolette, who has followed him there stealthy.
Brent catches Emmett snooping and demands that his brother goes home, saying he will explain all later. Holden tells them to be quiet as he can sense someone else is in the building. "We're done," Brent suddenly says and yanks his brother heading out, via a side door, before doing the pair do a runner.
At this point, Nicolette hadn't entered the building but seconds after the boys have bolted, she enters via the same door Emmett did. Initially she thinks Holden is just a user of the building and asks if he's seen Emmett but then she seems to recognise his face and asks if they've met? He replies no and at you can see that she now does recognise him and goes to use her phone. Holden strips it from her and when Nicolette tries to bolt, he quickly rushes after her and throws Nicolette against a shelving unit, causing her to fall... and the shelving unit (with its boxes) then falls on top of her, knocking Nicolette out cold.
Harold's café
Deciding on a face to face meeting, both Hendrix and Mackenzie agree that despite their 'moment' they simply want to be friends.
In her rush to get out of the Flamingo bar, Mackenzie left behind her purse and when Toadie delivers it to her, he notices the pair are quite "jovial." Mackenzie explains that things are now sorted and after apologising, Toadie promises not to interfere again!
The Hive
Curtis arrives at The Hive and spots the van with the power tools outside. He makes his way inside where he runs into Holden and tells him to "stay where you are." Holden lays down the power tool he was carrying but as soon as he does that, he quickly grabs a torch and uses it to hit Curtis with on the head... the side of his head where the implant is. Immediately, Curtis (and the audience) knows that there is an issue with his cochlea implant... which is why he can't hear the now conscious, and bleeding, Nicolette's cries for help.
