- Emmett has a hard time in school.
- Emmett's brother, Brent, turns up.
School
Emmett introduces Brent to David. David suggests that he signs in to school grounds in the future. They all decide to go back to Ramsay Street, although David has reservations.
Emmett and Brent walk off, while David explains to Aaron who Brent is. Apparently he and Emmett are half-brothers (different fathers) Now Brent lives in residential care.
Office
Terese tells Paul that Toadie is up at Port Douglas, at Sky and Lana's wedding. Terese is pleased that now three out of five couples from the Expo have gone on to get legally married (Mark and Page, Lucy and Mark, Sky and Lana)
Pierce has apparently suggests a social media follow-up from the Expo.
Jane's flat, Perth
Jane, looking very lonely, is microwaving a meal.
Office
Paul decides to call Des and Jane.
Jane's flat, Perth
Jane is remembering Des's proposal and looking upset. She goes on to remember the (ceremonial) wedding and starts to cry.
Just then, Paul calls her, so she rejects the call.
No.32 (Garden)
Emmett and Brent are playing basketball and chatting.
BRENT: Better than my dump.
DAVID: Where is your residential care?
BRENT: West Waratah.
DAVID: And do the workers there know where you are?
BRENT: I don't have to tell them where I am all the time.
DAVID: That's a no?
BRENT: Look, I do what I want, and they're used to it.
David goes on to ask Brent about school. He says he's dropped out of school to do a job with removals.
David is clearly not impressed about Brent's influence on Emmett, who seems to hero-worship him.
Harold's Café
Pierce sees Hendrix sitting at a table and asks him about his environmental presentation. Pierce scoffs that he is doing "consumerism"
HENDRIX: This is the new, environmentally and socially responsible Hendrix!
Pierce can't see it lasting beyond the month(!)
No.32
Leila has told Aaron that there's no problem with Brent visiting, as long as he's back in his residential care before curfew.
In the garden, Brent is telling Emmett that his situation with Aaron and David won't last.
Inside, David is worried that Brent is a bad influence.
In the garden, Brent tells Emmett that as soon as he turns 18, he's going to get his own place, and then they can live together. Emmett is pleased.
BRENT: Just the two of us, little brother. You in?
EMMETT: Yes, I'm in.
Inside, David reluctantly agrees with Aaron that Emmett should have contact with his family members.
Office
Terese asks Pierce how Chloe is, and he is surprised that she knows about the pregnancy.
Paul comes in, trying to call Jane on the phone again. Apparently Lucy and Mark are very happy though, and have sent some photos through for Lassiter's social media.
No.32
David and Aaron tell Emmett that they need to talk about what happened at the school.
AARON: Look. David and I are happy for you and Brent to spend time together. But you can't just keep using it as an excuse to ignore what happened today.
EMMETT: I'm not.
AARON: Well, good. Because...mate...you can't keep losing it every time things get hard, alright? We want to work on some strategies so we can change the way you react. Is that something you'd be willing to work on together?
EMMETT: I guess. Yeah.
AARON: Good.
David gets a call from the school to say that Emmett has been suspended for three days.
EMMETT: This sucks.
Harold's Café
Pierce sees Hendrix again. He's come to get beetroot burgers to satisfy Chloe's cravings. He tries to tempt Hendrix by giving him money for a new phone, but he says he's not cracking! Instead, he invites Pierce to take up the anti-consumerism challenge with him.
Jane's flat, Perth
Jane has been going through her answerphone messages from Paul. She calls Terese.
TERESE: Jane! This is a pleasant surprise.
JANE: Terese, could you please call your husband off?
TERESE: I'm sorry?
JANE: Silly me. Silly me, thinking that I could confide in Dr Kennedy without becoming fodder for the Erinsborough Gossip Mill! I bet he blabbed the minute he got back from his trip, didn't he?
TERESE: Jane?
JANE: I know. I know Paul's heart is in the right place, but honestly, the last thing I need right now is him wanting to talk about Des. I have been through enough emotional upheaval in my life to know that I will weather this storm on my own without the added humiliation of being analysed and judged!
Terese is looking very confused.
TERESE: Jane...Paul was just calling you to talk about a follow-up article for the Expo...
JANE: He what?
TERESE: As far as I'm aware he hasn't even spoken to Karl Kennedy. Karl and Susan are still away. What exactly are you talking about? Has something happened with you and Des.
No.32
Emmett is telling David and Aaron that Mr Muggleton picks on him. Brent is also being very unhelpful, so David sends him away.
Aaron is on the phone to the school asking them to re-consider the suspension, but they won't.
AARON: Hey, I found school hard too. But the one thing I learned is that you can't get through life without an education.
DAVID: But you're doing really well.
EMMETT: Doesn't feel like it.
DAVID: You've got to stick at it. Persevere. It'll all come together in the end.
EMMETT: Last time I got suspended, when I went back, all the kids looked at me like I was the biggest loser.
AARON: Hey, if that happens again, you can just ignore them.
EMMETT: Well, it's not going to happen again because I'm not going back.
AARON: Buddy, I get you're feeling...
EMMETT: They can stick their school! I'm not going to be here, anyway.
DAVID: What do you mean? Of course you will, we're in this together.
EMMETT: I'm leaving. Brent's getting an apartment and I'm going with him.
Aaron and David look shocked.
Office
Terese is talking things through with Jane on the phone.
JANE: We're both adults, we make our own choices...I suppose I was just so desperate for a happy ending...well, I really can't believe that it's all come to this.
TERESE: Well, I wish things were different. But listen, there's something I have to tell you. Paul's going to call Des if you don't respond to his messages.
JANE: Oh, no. I suppose I can't keep hiding from the truth, I have to bite the bullet and just tell Paul everything.
TERESE: No...I don't think that's a good idea. I'm sure you're aware that the moment Paul finds out he'll come in guns blazing, wanting to save the day.
JANE: Yes. That's what I was afraid of.
TERESE: And you don't want that. And if I'm to be honest, neither do I.
JANE: No...I understand.
TERESE: I'll take care of Paul.
JANE: Are you sure?
TERESE: Yes. You just look after yourself. Now, is there anyone else that you can turn to over there?
JANE: I'll be alright. I'll muddle through, always do. And...thank you, Terese.
She ends the call.
Garden of No.32
BRENT: Why shouldn't my brother live with me, huh?
DAVID: He's happy living here.
AARON: He's doing really well.
BRENT: I'm his family. Nothing, nothing beats that.
AARON: Brent, when you turn eighteen, you can go and get yourself a job, move into an apartment, but Emmett's still in foster care.
BRENT: No, I can be his carer.
DAVID: I'm not sure the agency will go for that.
BRENT: He wants to live with me.
DAVID: That doesn't mean it'll happen. They might not think you're responsible enough to raise a teenager.
BRENT: I'll have money.
DAVID: Will it be enough to afford a place with two bedrooms? Because they don't come cheap.
BRENT: I can manage.
AARON: What about everything else Emmett needs? He needs school-books, clothes, food...
DAVID: Bills...medical appointments...these things all add up.
BRENT: We'll live cheap. My mate can probably chuck Em some weekend shifts.
AARON: He's thirteen! He can't legally work.
BRENT: Then I'll work full time.
DAVID: And you'll get home every day and cook? Clean the house? Help Emmett with his homework?
AARON: Not to mention parent-teacher interviews...sports days...
BRENT: Yeah, whatever! It'll be tough, but it doesn't mean I can't do it! I want to be with my brother.
DAVID: What we're saying is, it's a lot of work. Are you really ready for that responsibility?
No.22
Paul is examining his whisky bottles, which he suspects Roxy of topping up with water(!)
Terese comes in and tells Paul she's spoken to Jane.
PAUL: What did she have to say?
TERESE: Um, she and Des are doing really well.
PAUL: Well, that's excellent.
TERESE: But she, um, she's not very keen to partake in the follow up.
PAUL: Why?
TERESE: Oh, you know Jane, she likes privacy.
PAUL: That's true.
TERESE: And Des isn't one for the limelight really either...
PAUL: Also true. Ah well, as long as they're happy. Which it seems they are. I had a look at Jane's Facebook page and you know what, they have been travelling and wining and dining and spending lots of time with Nicolette.
TERESE: Oh, yeah, Nicolette...
PAUL: Yeah, Jane's daughter. You know, I think that Jane is *finally* getting what she deserves. Love, companionship and a happy family.
Terese tries to put a happy look on her face.
No.32
Brent tells Emmett that he doesn't think they can move in together.
BRENT: They hate my guts.
EMMETT: They don't hate anyone. They just care what happens to me.
BRENT: Hey, I'm your brother, alright? Nobody cares about you more than I do. And those two, they're full of it. They'll try and split us up again. Well, we're going to stick together this time, right? Whether they like it or not.
Office
Terese sighs. Then she looks up Jane's Facebook page. Sure enough, there are photos of Nicolette. She clicks through to Nicolette's profile and presses on "Send Message".
"Hi Nicolette. I'm Terese Willis, a friend of your mother's. I spoke to her and heard about what happened in Perth. She's not in a good place and really needs to talk to you."
