Ramsay Street
Outside No 28, Finn and Claudia's conversation has become heated.
FINN: Why are you against Elly? She's having Shaun's baby.
CLAUDIA: I had my doubts about her. So I hired a private investigator, and what he came back with was damning. Look - Dean may be a smarmy little opportunist, but that doesn't let Elly off the hook.
FINN: You did have something to do with him following her, didn't you?
CLAUDIA: ... No. The PI paid him for some information. When I arrived, I found out he was following Elly.
FINN: Why hire a PI at all? You could've just asked me.
CLAUDIA: ...
FINN: Because you don't trust me. You pretended I mattered, so you could dig dirt on Elly!
CLAUDIA: I know how much you loved Shaun. And I know how much she means to you.
FINN: What exactly are you asking me to do?
CLAUDIA: I want you to be my eyes and ears.
FINN: What, spy on Elly?
CLAUDIA: Just watch her. At some stage, Elly's going to mess up; she always does. And when that happens, we need to step in, and save Shaun's child.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul and Terese are filling in David and Aaron on what they missed after they left the wedding. It cheers David up, but he wishes they could go to Adelaide for the second ceremony. Aaron reminds him that they're not expected to be there.
AARON: Everyone just wants you to get better. And can you imagine if we tried to fly with this infection, huh?
PAUL: What infection?
Aaron explains that David's cannula site has become infected, which means that the doctors have had to suspend dialysis. David says it's not a big deal; he's on antibiotics to sort it out, and then can go back on dialysis.
PAUL: I knew the wedding was too much.
DAVID: You would've had to have locked me up to keep me away.
At this point, who should arrive at the door with a big bunch of flowers, but Leo, fresh from a plane from New York! David is overjoyed to see his brother, and Leo goes over to give him a hug.
DAVID: It's so good to see you!
Ramsay Street
Amy isn't feeling too good, and Kyle suggests she see a doctor - she says it's not that bad, and that she must have eaten something dodgy. Kyle tells her he's received his payout from the class action, and asks how Amy would feel if he used most of it to make a payment on David and Aaron's mortgage.
AMY: That's very generous.
KYLE: Money's not gonna fix what I did. But it might take the pressure off them for a bit.
AMY: It's your call. If it's what you wanna do, you should do it.
Kyle says he'll ask them about it today. He also wants to take Amy for dinner later, so they can spend some quality time together - it feels like ages since they have. Amy says it's a nice idea but seems unenthusiastic.
AMY: With everything going on, I dunno if I'd be much fun.
Kyle is understanding, but Amy looks worried as he walks away.
Erinsborough Hospital
Leo explains how he's been at a music festival for a few days, but leapt on a plane as soon as he heard about David's accident.
DAVID: So much for our twin-sense!
LEO: Yeah, we always sucked at that, hey?
Leo says things are going well in New York; he's doing some work in property development for apartment complexes. Paul is impressed, saying it sounds like he's taking a leaf out of the Robinson book, but Leo seems less enthused at this idea! Terese asks if Leo's planning on staying in New York - he replies that it depends how things pan out.
Aaron suggests he, Terese and Paul should wait outside and give Leo and David a proper chance to catch up. On his way out, Paul asks Leo if he'd like to catch up later; Leo replies 'sure', but without much enthusiasm.
DAVID: It's ridiculously good to see you.
LEO: Yeah, you too.
DAVID: Never sneak off like that again. It wasn't cool.
LEO: I'm sorry. I wasn't sure how to say goodbye.
DAVID: I've really missed you.
LEO: You too.
David smiles.
No 28
Elly, Bea and Claudia are chatting about baby stuff. Bea has her eye on some gender-neutral sheets for the crib.
CLAUDIA: So you're not curious as to whether it's a boy or a girl?
ELLY: Well, I figured that finding out when the baby's born is the fun part.
CLAUDIA: Must be harder to organise, not knowing whether to buy pink or blue.
ELLY: Pink, blue, dolls, trucks... whatever it is, I'm fine with it all.
CLAUDIA: So, no gender-specific toys, then?
ELLY: I don't want to limit him, or her.
CLAUDIA: Very modern approach.
But it's not clear whether Claudia really approves! Finn comes in and asks for a word with Claudia, so Elly and Bea duck into the back yard.
CLAUDIA: So I take it you have an answer for me?
FINN: ... I won't watch Elly for you. I want things to be good between us, but not if it means betraying Elly.
CLAUDIA: So, you're happy to betray Shaun instead?
FINN: If you give her a chance, you'll see, she'll be a great mum.
CLAUDIA: Everything she's done proves otherwise!
FINN: You and I would look pretty bad on paper too!
CLAUDIA: Elly is selfish. She's lied to her family and friends. She has no job - no financial security. Shaun's baby deserves the best chance at life. Elly is not capable of giving it that.
FINN: It's Elly's child! And if you want to take part in this child's life, you need to learn to trust her!
CLAUDIA: Why? Why are you taking her side against me?! I'm your mother!
FINN: Because she's my friend, and you've been my mother for about five minutes! I will not sell her out to buy your approval!
Shortly afterwards, Elly and Bea come back in from the yard, and Susan emerges too. Finn suggests they all go out for lunch; Susan has other plans, so can't. Elly seems reluctant at the prospect of more time with Claudia, and says she'll chill here instead, while Bea, Finn and Claudia go.
FINN: We're not leaving without you.
ELLY: Honestly, I'm fine.
FINN: Not taking no for an answer. Mum was just telling me she's looking forward to getting to know you better!
Elly grudgingly agrees to join them. Susan raises her eyebrows.
No 22
Paul and Terese are on the sofa, chatting about how surprised they were when Leo walked in and how well he looked. Paul suddenly becomes emotional, and Terese comforts him.
PAUL: Terese, I just... I just wanted to wrap my arms around him in a big hug, and he... he barely looked at me.
TERESE: Hey, do you think he's still angry, or embarrassed? I mean, that stunt that he pulled with Elle and your ex-wives...
PAUL: I'm not sure. All I know is he wants nothing to do with me.
TERESE: Oh, I don't know about that. I mean, he may have been a little reserved. But I think he was pretty shocked seeing how unwell David looked.
PAUL: Yeah, yeah.
TERESE: You know, I think he's in a good place. Let's just hope this visit helps us all put the past in the past, huh?
PAUL: Yeah, let's hope so. You know, I think about him every day, and it wasn't until he walked in that room that I realised just how much I miss him.
The Waterhole
Elly, Bea, Finn and Claudia are at lunch; Elly is talking about things she's not able to eat because of her pregnancy. Claudia remarks that 'all those rules' must have been a shock to the system...
CLAUDIA: ... especially since it was an unplanned pregnancy.
ELLY: Yeah, I was just joking. This baby means more to me than anything.
CLAUDIA: I read that women who have unplanned pregnancies have a higher risk of postnatal depression. Did you know that?
ELLY: ... No.
CLAUDIA: Well, it's something you need to be careful about. I mean, especially now you don't have Shaun as support.
FINN: Elly's got plenty of support. She'll be fine.
CLAUDIA: I'm sure she will. I suppose you've got a breastfeeding plan?
ELLY: Uh... yeah, I plan to breastfeed, if that's what you mean.
CLAUDIA: Good. Get the little one into a routine.
ELLY: Well, it's more about on-demand feeding these days.
CLAUDIA: Yes, of course. But babies like structure. Have you got a breast pump?
FINN: Mum!!
CLAUDIA: Well, I'll get you one. Look, she needs to think about these things! Oh, that reminds me - what about your mother? Well, are you close? Will she be a part of the baby's life?
ELLY: Umm... Yeah, Mum's a bit of a long story.
CLAUDIA: Well, we've got time, haven't we?

Elly is looking increasingly uncomfortable with Claudia's interrogation.
Erinsborough Hospital
Amy and Kyle are approaching the hospital, discussing Kyle's plan to give his payout to David and Aaron. Amy asks what Kyle will do if David says no - but at that point, Leo appears, and Amy excitedly greets him. Amy asks how Jimmy is; Leo says he had lunch with him last week, and that he's good but busy with school.
Leo also reports that he's passed the first test for kidney donor compatibility, and is waiting for results from the second.
AMY: Of course you're compatible; you shared a womb for nine months!
LEO: Yeah, but we came out completely different.
Kyle stands around awkwardly, not knowing what to say to Leo. Eventually he disappears inside to go and talk to David. Leo says to Amy that it must've been tough for her and Kyle following the accident.
AMY: It's been a fun few weeks - the laughs just keep on comin' (!)
LEO: You guys are still together, though?
AMY: Yeah. But it's hard, with David. Every time I think about what happened, I just get angry. Even though I know it was an accident. And then I feel awful, because I know that Kyle blames himself... Look at me, spilling my guts the second I see you.
Leo gives Amy a hug.
The Waterhole
Claudia has concluded from Elly's description of her mother that Liz is 'unreliable and scatty'. Finn explains that Liz lives in Sydney and doesn't see the girls much, so whether she's reliable or not is beside the point.
CLAUDIA: I'm just making conversation. You know, in my experience, the parent/child relationship impacts every aspect of a person's life. Wouldn't you agree, Elly?
FINN: If that's true, I would *love* to hear your take on how our relationship impacted me!
Bea and Elly retreat to the bar to buy more drinks. Elly admits she's wanted the ground to swallow her for the last ten minutes. Bea says Claudia is treating Elly like her pregnancy is a job interview.
ELLY: I feel like she's going to ask me for references next.
But Elly adds that Finn has been great in sticking up for her. Back at the table, Finn tells Claudia that Elly is nothing like her mother Liz, and won't make the same mistakes. But Claudia doesn't seem convinced.
FINN: Be honest - you've already made your mind up about Elly. There's nothing that she can say that's gonna change it.
CLAUDIA: I simply want the truth. So far, I haven't heard anything that makes me believe Elly's going to be a good mother.
FINN: Well, that's not for you to decide! And if you don't stop this interrogation, this lunch is over!
However, the moment Elly and Bea return to the table, Claudia continues unabated.
CLAUDIA: So, we haven't talked about your work! When would you be going back?
Realising Claudia doesn't know she's been fired yet, Elly can't quite bring herself to say the words.
ELLY: I haven't set anything in stone yet.
CLAUDIA: Well, I imagine you can't afford to stay at home indefinitely - unless Susan and Karl are going to support you?
ELLY: I wouldn't expect them to do that.
FINN: Elly's finances really aren't any of your business, Mum.
ELLY: (...) Actually, I quit a couple of weeks ago. I'm planning on moving on from teaching, and trying something different.
CLAUDIA: ... You quit? That's very brave of you.
Elly strains to maintain a smile, while Finn looks worried.
Erinsborough Hospital
Kyle, Amy and Aaron are in David's hospital room. Kyle tells David and Aaron that he wants to use his payout from the class action lawsuit to pay off some of their mortgage, if they'll let him.
AARON: Well, I -
DAVID: Definitely not. Put it into your own business, or your own house deposit.
KYLE: No, I'll put some away so me and Amy can buy a place. But I'd really like to help you guys, too.
DAVID: Look, it's a generous offer, but we can't accept.
AARON: Yeah, look - we know you feel bad. But it was an accident, and we know that.
KYLE: But this isn't about me. You guys have bigger issues to deal with, and you could really use this money. I'm not trying to buy off my guilt or anything like that. I only want to help. So, please, will you let me do that?
Aaron and David exchange a look.
DAVID: ... Thank you, and you're right. It will take the pressure off a bit. And, Kyle - I want you to know something. Having Leo here has reminded me, you've got to hang onto the good things in life. And you're a good friend. I forgive you.
Kyle is emotional.
KYLE: Thank you. That means a lot. I love you guys.
There's more good news to come - Leo has passed the second of the three compatibility tests 'with flying colours'.
LEO: One more test, and you've got yourself a new kidney.
Everyone looks relieved.
The Waterhole
The lunch-goers are just examining the dessert options, when Susan arrives to check up on them. Elly begins to have cramps, and Claudia's concerned that the baby is coming - but Elly tells her it's just Braxton Hicks contractions. Claudia doesn't appear to believe Elly, and repeatedly tries to insist that she go to hospital to be on the safe side.
CLAUDIA: Why isn't anyone listening to me?! (...) We need to make sure the baby's safe!
SUSAN: No, we need to make sure Elly's comfortable, and not put pressure on her.
Susan helps Elly with her breathing as she recovers from the contractions. Claudia goes to call an ambulance anyway, saying it's Shaun's child - but Finn takes her phone away and tells Claudia to back off.
FINN: Elly is going to be a brilliant mother, and you can either give her the space and respect she deserves, or you can leave!
CLAUDIA: ... I'm sorry. I was just worried about the baby. Of course it's Elly's choice; she knows best.
The Waterhole
Leo and Ned are catching up over a drink; Ned has been filling Leo in on Scarlett and the stabbing incident.
LEO: And I thought *I* had bad taste in women (...) I definitely think this is worse than any of mine.
NED: Oh, well, congratulations - you're no longer the most gullible guy in town!
LEO: (...) What about Yashvi, though? Can you patch things up with her?
NED: I think she's still pretty angry.
Liam Barnett, Amy's ex and Jimmy's dad, calls Leo on his mobile. But Leo ignores it, telling Ned it can wait, and goes to buy them some more drinks. At the bar, Leo encounters Kyle.
LEO: Relax. I'm not gonna give you a serve about David.
Leo in fact wants to talk about Amy instead. He says he knows Kyle and Amy are going through a rough patch, but given he's made it right with David and Aaron, then he can do the same with Amy.
LEO: You guys fought hard to get back together. You shouldn't forget that.
No 28
Susan, Bea, Elly and Finn arrive home with Claudia. Finn apologies to Elly for 'blowing up' at lunch. But Elly admits she was very close to saying something to Claudia herself 'that would've started World War III', and thanks Finn from saving her from herself! Bea heads to her room, while Elly and Finn go to make some tea, and Susan joins Claudia on the sofa.
CLAUDIA: I think Finn has appointed himself Elly's white knight. They seem very close.
SUSAN: Yeah, he's, uh... he's taken on a lot since Shaun died.
CLAUDIA: Do you think he's trying to fill Shaun's shoes?
SUSAN: I think he's... trying to support Elly.
But Susan doesn't sound wholly convincing, and Claudia appears to clock this. Susan makes her escape, saying she needs to head to the shops to buy some things for dinner. Claudia invites herself to stay for it! Susan strains a smile as she agrees to this, then leaves - while Claudia watches Elly and Finn as they enjoy one another's company in the kitchen.
Erinsborough Hospital
Paul, Terese and Leo are back with David and Aaron at the hospital. Leo gets the results of the third kidney donor test tomorrow, so they are all positive about that. But David's not feeling too well; the antibiotics he's on for the infection haven't had much effect yet. He tries to keep up a positive front, saying they will kick in eventually.
Paul asks Leo if he has any plans for tonight; he and Terese were going to get some Thai takeaway for dinner, so Leo would be welcome to join them. Albeit a little hesitantly, Leo says that this sounds good. Paul is pleased, and Terese winks at him.
No 32
Kyle sits Amy down in the sun room for a chat.
KYLE: Amy, it took a lot for us to get to this place. We had to fight for it. But we got here because we love each other, and we want the same things out of life. House of our own, kids, a family...
Amy looks very unsure.
KYLE: And then it hit me today. What are we waiting for? We should be like Chloe and Pierce, and grab every bit of happiness that we can, while we can.
AMY: Is this about buying a house together?
KYLE: No. This is about starting a family. I want to try for a baby. And I know it's weird timing, and if it's not right for you, that's okay. I just needed you to know that I'm ready, for when you're ready.
AMY: Mm... Uh, well, you might not have a choice.
KYLE: Wait, are you...?
AMY: I think I might be pregnant.
