Pierce is having an angry jog around the lake to work out his frustrations. As he approaches the complex he runs into Karl; Pierce is short with him and then apologises, explaining he's had a rough day due to a blow- up with Chloe. Karl offers the opportunity to talk.
PIERCE: It's stupid, really. It's about Elly.
KARL: Right. Is their history bothering you?
PIERCE: It's not that; it's just... I saw them talking the other day, and it felt like Chloe wasn't telling me the full story, or something.
KARL: Okay. Well, I can't speak for Chloe; but Elly was probably reaching out because she's feeling adrift. Since she got sacked.
PIERCE: ... I've definitely overreacted.
Karl advises him to talk it out with Chloe - and also to join the bike club! He invites Pierce to join them for a ride now and a bit of a chinwag. Pierce says it's exactly what he needs.
Chloe is on the hunt for snacks and irate that she can't find any! Hendrix blames Pierce for not knowing his way around a supermarket.
HENDRIX: Revenge could help. I once changed his ringtone after an argument. It played 'I Like Big Butts' in the middle of a board meeting.
CHLOE (smiling): Stop trying to make me smile. I'm too annoyed.
HENDRIX: Or if payback isn't your style, you can... rant to me if you want?
Chloe is sorely tempted, but...
CHLOE: I shouldn't drag you into it.
HENDRIX: I don't care. He was out of line. Your convos with Elly are none of his business.
CHLOE: Seriously, like I'm meant to tell him about every interaction I have with my friend!
HENDRIX: Yeah. And the hypocrisy of it. You know, he didn't tell you about having kids.
Chloe stops herself saying any more.
CHLOE: I shouldn't be discussing this with you. It's between your dad and I.
HENDRIX: Yeah, but it's true. He's trying to make you feel bad, when he's the one in the wrong.
CHLOE: ... I'm gonna go and shower. I didn't get any manure on me, but I'm just paranoid about the... aura.
Hendrix looks pensive as she leaves.
David and Aaron are preparing for Bike Club, when Ned comes in. Aaron asks him how his 'war wound' is healing. Ned says he can hardly feel it anymore.
DAVID: Tell me to butt out if you want to, but I can always refer you to someone if you want to talk?
NED: I'm fine, thanks.
Aaron invites him to join for the bike ride.
NED: Yeah, except I don't own any Lycra, so...
Aaron suggests Ned could come down to The Shed for a workout later if that's more his thing. Ned prefers the sound of this, and says he might do that. He looks troubled as David and Aaron leave.
Dipi is trying to talk to Kirsha, but getting total silent treatment. Yashvi explains it's Kirsha's protest at not being allowed to go to the School for the Gifted™. Shane pointedly reminds Dipi that they still have till 9am tomorrow to make a decision on the scholarship.
DIPI: Well, we've already decided, and we have to do what's right for Kirsh, and that means staying with us.
Kirsha slams her book in annoyance. There's a knock at the door, and Yashvi goes to answer; it's Kyle, here to see Toadie. Kyle has come for an 'update', presumably on the lawsuit - but Toadie deliberately misunderstands and makes out Kyle's talking about Bike Club. Toadie hurries Kyle out of the house, saying he has to go to the office and that they can talk on the way.
DIPI (to Shane): I hope that awkwardness doesn't mean what I think it does?
SHANE: That they're having an affair? Yeah, probably.
DIPI: The class action. Has he said yes?
SHANE: Last I heard, Toadie was still weighing it up.
Dipi looks unimpressed.
Hendrix has made Chloe a magical noodle concoction, which he says is a secret recipe he and his mates came up with when they were bored. Chloe thinks it smells really good, and apologises for being so snarky earlier.
CHLOE: I hate fighting with your dad.
HENDRIX: Maybe planning the wedding so fast is stressing you both out.
CHLOE: ... You might be right.
HENDRIX: I mean, call me crazy... Why don't you slow it down?
CHLOE: Because it's something to look forward to. And with my condition, I don't exactly have all the time in the world.
HENDRIX: Oh, like anyone does! That doesn't make you special.
CHLOE: Sometimes you are so rude, I don't know whether to laugh or smack you!
HENDRIX: Everyone lives on borrowed time. You're healthy, so why freak out about something that isn't happening yet?
HENDRIX: Okay - now you can decide whether to smack me or laugh.
CHLOE: Neither. Thank you for... not holding back. It's kind of refreshing.
But at that moment, Susan turns up for a tutoring session with Hendrix, cutting the conversation short. But as he leaves the table to fetch his books, Hendrix adds quietly...
HENDRIX: Chloe, if you don't want to get married in three weeks, don't. Stop acting like you have no choice.
Choice looks conflicted as Hendrix walks off.
Karl, Pierce, Aaron and David are having a coffee after their bike ride. Pierce has enjoyed the ride, but says he would have done more if he wasn't so stuck in his own head. Aaron and David reassure him that the odd fight with Chloe is normal; it comes with the territory of being a couple. Karl adds that working through such issues will only help the relationship.
KARL: You're a smart guy; you love Chloe. You'll work it out.
AARON: Or you could build a man- cave out the back, and then invite us all around to hang out.
Everyone cheers at that idea.
Kyle queries Toadie's secrecy, saying that his family will find out about the class action sooner or later. Toadie points out that Kyle hasn't told Amy yet, either.
KYLE: Uh, waiting for the right moment.
Toadie says he'll need a lot of help from Kyle with the class action, such as with answering phones and sorting files. Kyle assures him he's ready. They reflect that it's going to be tough on the likes of Terese, Pierce, Chloe and Paul. Kyle says they've got insurance, though.
TOADIE: Still, feels like we're dividing our friends into sides.
KYLE: ... You know, I'm more worried about how Paul's gonna retaliate.
TOADIE: It's gonna get ugly.
Ned turns up to see Chloe; he says he wants to come back to work. Chloe reminds him he was in hospital with stab wounds two weeks ago, but Ned says he's going insane cooped up at home. Chloe offers to start him on half- days, but Ned says he doesn't need special treatment. Chloe says they can reassess after a week.
Pierce turns up, and Ned leaves them to it. Pierce has brought various types of wedding cake for them to sample, which he proceeds to use as a metaphor for how sorry he is for the argument with Chloe.
PIERCE: The first one is a classic vanilla sponge, with a dash of regretful fiancé.
CHLOE: Hmm. Not bad. Could use a dash more remorse. On both sides.
We continue in this vein for a while, until Chloe has accepted his apology.
CHLOE: Pierce, we're getting married in three weeks. It makes sense you would lose your cool- guy façade at some point. And I should've told you about the Elly thing.
PIERCE: Look, I mean, life's so full- on for both of us right now, okay? Let's just make sure that we tell each other everything.
They get back to half- baked cake metaphors.
PIERCE: This one is unconditional love. With a generous topping of 'my fiancée is incredible, and I cannot wait to marry her'.
Chloe is well and truly placated now. She declares that one her favourite, and they kiss.
Ned is training with Aaron and practising some boxing, but is being unduly aggressive. Eventually Aaron tells him to 'stop being so feral'! He suggests they try something else; Ned is keen to continue, saying he'll take it easy from now on. But Aaron sends Ned to do a lap of the grounds instead. As Ned prepares to obey, another gym- goer, Kane, who's been watching Ned curiously, talks to him.
KANE: Babysitter's strict!
KANE: If you ever want to let loose properly...
Kane hands Ned a card with an address printed on it, and nothing else - it's 237 Torrance Road, Erinsborough.
KANE: Come any time after nine.
Susan is tutoring Hendrix (who is holding Clementine the cat who seems to have randomly wandered in), when Chloe and Pierce come in.
HENDRIX: Why do you guys look like the last ten minutes of a rom- com?
PIERCE: Well, turns out we're both pretty good at apologising.
Hendrix looks despondent as he realises Chloe and Pierce have patched things up. Pierce suggests to Susan that she and Karl come and join them for dinner to celebrate. Susan accepts, and as Pierce goes to see what's in the fridge, Chloe approaches Hendrix.
CHLOE: Will you have dinner with us, too?
HENDRIX: Sure. You know I love playing happy families with you guys (!)
But Hendrix looks sad as he continues to stroke Clementine. Susan looks a bit suspicious.
Kyle apologises to Chloe for mouthing off at her the other day about the hotel; he says he was out of line lumping her in with Paul.
CHLOE: Yeah. It'll be years till I get to that level of underhanded business mogul!
Kyle confirms things between them are 'good', 'however this plays out'. Chloe asks what he means, but Kyle rushes off, opting not to tell her about the lawsuit.
Yashvi turns up, sighing. She's just passed her driving test, we learn, but is annoyed as she had to walk home! Chloe says Yashvi should be all carefree as she's just finished school.
YASHVI: Turns out carefree isn't as fun when you don't know what's happening next.
CHLOE: ... Hey, I've got a proposition for you.
Kirsha is still giving Dipi and Shane the silent treatment, but Dipi's had enough.
DIPI: Listen, we appreciate you fighting for what you believe in, right? We taught you that. But this? This is not the way.
DIPI: Are you upset because you think we don't believe in you?
SHANE: We know how special you are, hon. We know you can do anything.
DIPI: You just have to remember your anxiety -
KIRSHA: I haven't forgotten my anxiety! It'll be a part of me forever, but I'm managing it! Uncle Toadie, Miss Conway, and the school in Sydney - they can all see that. And that's not what's holding me back - you are!
Kirsha storms off to her room.
DIPI: Why can't she see I'm trying to protect her?
SHANE: ... I'm sure she can.
DIPI: Oh, you're still on her side, then?
SHANE: She's convinced it's what she wants to do. I think she should be allowed to give it a shot. Oh, come on - she'll have support. I mean, with Mishti and Pavan, your folks and Jay... She won't board like him, she'll live with your parents.
DIPI: But we're her parents. Isn't it our job to protect our kids?
SHANE: Yeah. And it's also our job to help them achieve their dreams. Not stand in their way.
Susan and Karl have joined the Greysons and Chloe for dinner. Karl is throwing shade on Pierce's veggies, which are 'a bit soft'.
KARL: I meant to say tender.
PIERCE: I'm not a great chef, but I'm practising.
KARL: You know where'd be a good place to learn? Paris. No, seriously - Bike Club need to do a trip. You know, the Tour de France is in seven months!
Chloe starts collecting up plates, and Hendrix immediately leaps up to help her.
PIERCE: Wow! If Susan's tutoring can inspire you to help around the house, then maybe we should get her here more often.
HENDRIX: When I don't help out, I get in trouble, and when I do, I get mocked. Cheers!
While Karl tutors Pierce in the art of 'dad jokes'...
KARL: How do you make holy water? Boil the hell out of it!
... Hendrix seizes an opportunity to chat to Chloe in the kitchen, telling her he can't believe she's forgiven Pierce so quickly.
CHLOE: We both overreacted.
HENDRIX: He's not Mr Perfect, you know?
CHLOE: You can't hold his mistakes against him forever.
HENDRIX: Oh, sure I can. And you should, too. You deserve better.
CHLOE: Thank you for caring. Really. But... when you get older, you'll realise that relationships are more complicated than you think.
Ned is watching TV on the sofa. Bored, he turns it off, and turns his attention to the card in his pocket that Kane gave him. He gets up...
237 Torrance Road
Ned has come to the address on the card - it's an abandoned warehouse, where a lot of rowdy extras are engaged in an illegal fighting ring! Kane is among the attendees, and watches with satisfaction as two guys are engaged in a bare- knuckle boxing match.
KANE: You showed up.
NED: What have I showed up to, exactly?
KANE: ... No rules. No holding back.
They watch as the two blokes fight. Ned gets a wild- eyed, excited look about him...
Toadie is working at the table, while Yashvi is on the sofa with Kirsha. Shane kisses a fragile- looking Dipi; it's evident she's come to a decision, which they're about to announce to Kirsha.
SHANE: Before you go to bed, Kirsh - your mum's got something to say.
DIPI: Okay, so you know we've thought about this school issue long and hard.
KIRSHA: Yeah, too long. Time's up.
DIPI: Well, not until tomorrow morning. But we've decided... to accept.
DIPI: Yeah, to ease the stress, you'll head up earlier to spend time with Nana and Auntie -
KIRSHA: Okay, okay - I can't believe this!
YASHVI: You're gonna smash it, Kirsh!
KIRSHA: Thank you, for making this happen. (To Dipi) And thank you - I won't let you down.
Dipi hugs Kirsha emotionally, telling her she'll have to call her every single day, and that she can just come home if she's struggling.
KIRSHA: Sure. But... I won't be!
SHANE: Nah, course you won't.
TOADIE: So, when's the big move?
KIRSHA: As soon as possible!
DIPI (tearful): Settle down, the school year's not even over!
But they agree to talk about that tomorrow. Yashvi has news too - she's scored herself a job as Chloe's new assistant.
YASHVI: Thought it'd be better than bludging around here.
They all congratulate her.
SHANE: Look at our girls, kicking goals!
Dipi pointedly looks as Toadie as she asks...
DIPI: Does anybody else have any big news they'd like to share?
TOADIE: ... Uh, nah, nothing worth noting!
237 Torrance Road
Kane whips his top off and challenges Ned to the next fight. Ned briefly hesitates, before taking off his own top. The crowd starts to cheer.
KANE: You ready? Cos I don't hold back.
NED: Let's do this.
They begin to box, bare- knuckled. Ned takes a punch and has a flashback, to Scarlett chasing him through the maze with a knife and shouting, 'liar!' We hear a heartbeat sound, as Ned snaps out of the intrusive thought and continues the fight. He lunges at Kane, grabbing him around the waist, the blows from Kane becoming increasingly brutal.
Ned falls back into the crowd, and has another flashback, of Scarlett screaming, 'you gave me no choice!' and slashing at him with the knife. Again, Ned regains his composure and the fight continues, as he begins to land some blows on Kane. Soon, he hits Kane in the face, knocking him to the floor. Ned looks frenzied and almost possessed, as we fade out.
