Number 22
Terese tells Roxy that her and Paul have decided she should move out due to her recent behaviour. But when Roxy is about to spill Paul's secret, Paul quickly changes his tune and says Roxy can stay. Terese is rightfully confused about Paul's complete 180.
TERESE: Am I hallucinating? You felt differently about this twenty minutes ago.
PAUL: Yes and I had a kneejerk reaction. I'm sorry, darling, but after chatting with Roxy I think she definitely does want to try harder to learn from you.
Roxy offers her best angelic smile when Paul asks Terese if they should give her niece another chance. Placated by Paul's apparent change of heart, Terese agrees.
Number 22 Backyard
Terese finds Roxy sunbathing and informs her she's chatted to Gemma and Adam and they're okay with her staying on in Erinsborough. But they're all pretty confused about where Roxy's cash supply has come from. Roxy admits she's not proud of where the money came from, but she wants Terese to know the truth.
ROXY: Back in Darwin a couple of my mates had a hook up at the races.
TERESE: I see. Are they friends from Abernethy Station?
ROXY: Yeah. I didn't mean to get messed up with it but you know how it gets and they knew which horses were good bets.
TERESE: Are you talking race fixing?
ROXY: I didn't ask questions.
TERESE: Well that's not surprising. The Abernethys are the type of people to get mixed up in something like this.
ROXY: All I did was win some sweet cash and then things started to get ugly. People getting worked over, police sniffing around...
TERESE: Are you in trouble? Are there people looking for you?
ROXY: No, nothing like that. I just wanted out.
Roxy asks if Terese thinks less of her now but Terese says no: she knows it takes a lot of courage to remove yourself from a situation like that and she's proud of her niece. Roxy smiles and says that Terese is the reason she put down the deposit on the bar, "I figured it might be something you'd do." Terese smiles and says Roxy might be right.
Ramsay Street
Terese chats with Chloe on the front doorstep of #32 about Roxy, hinting at something "nefarious" she's just learnt about her life in Darwin. She was hoping that Chloe would be able to have a good talk with Roxy.
TERESE: You've had a colourful life and you wouldn't judge.
CHLOE: Oh, so you want the queen of dodgy decision-making to impart some wisdom?
Terese just feels as though Roxy could use support from someone closer to her age, so Chloe agrees to pop over and see her.
Number 22 Backyard
As soon as Chloe appears and sits at the table with Roxy, she knows her Aunty T has freaked out and spilt some backstory. Chloe promises Roxy that she's a vault when it comes to secrets but Roxy just sighs and says she's used to being handballed around when people don't know what to do with her. Roxy then asks if Chloe's done much gambling and Chloe says yes. She also started a Cash 4 Company business too. Roxy thinks that sounds like a good gig and Chloe says it was until things got messy.
CHLOE: And the community were not exactly open-minded about it.
ROXY: I can imagine.
CHLOE: Anyway, I know what it's like to have to pick yourself up after a big life fail. I had to refuse to feel bad about myself.
ROXY: Damn straight, girl. Are you sure that you're done with it, like the Cash 4 Company stuff?
Chloe's smile falters when Roxy admits she saw Chloe receive some "sneaky cash" from Paul. Chloe says it's not what Roxy's thinking, but Roxy grins and throws Chloe's line back at her, "Don't worry, I'm a vault!"
Number 32 Backyard
Roxy tells Leo she couldn't get the truth from Chloe about her deal with Paul, but Leo says it's probably just Lassiters-related.
ROXY: But what if it's something that could hurt Aunty T?
LEO: Dad's going to blow up that relationship sooner or later; it's his favourite hobby.
ROXY: Does Terese know that?
LEO: Yeah she's well aware. She's no better!
ROXY: Woah, that's a bit harsh!
LEO: Well they deserve each other.
ROXY: What's your problem with her?
LEO: Doesn't matter.
ROXY: Well I have to know now.
LEO: I guess if I don't tell you someone else will and it will be a lot more embarrassing.
ROXY: (grinning) Wait, did you have a little crush?
Leo mutters a 'yes' into his beer bottle before gulping it down. Roxy's very amused.
Number 26
Kyle barges in to borrow laundry powder because he can't be bothered going to the shops. Amy's the only one home and can't help asking how things are between him and Chloe. Kyle plays dumb until he realises that Sheila told Amy the truth about Chloe. Amy hopes she's not the reason Kyle's hiding things, but Kyle says it's more that Chloe's worried about Aaron and David finding out and disapproving.
KYLE: Plus she kinda gets a kick out of sneaking around.
AMY: Do you feel the same way?
KYLE: (frowning) Yeah it was fun for a little while, but it's wearing a bit thin.
Amy's sure Aaron and David won't actually mind. Kyle thinks she could be right.
Number 32
Leo tells Chloe that Roxy swung by earlier. He thinks Chloe should get out of whatever deal is going on with Paul while she can. Chloe doesn't understand why Roxy's interfering.
LEO: She's worried he might screw over Terese.
CHLOE: Leo, I know you'd love to see their relationship crash and burn...
LEO: No, I don't care about them. I'm looking out for you. And there are way better ways to make money than being dad's puppet.
CHLOE: That's sweet, but I am the puppet master this time.
LEO: No you're not, Chloe. Dad always comes out on top and the other person always suffers.
Chloe looks troubled, knowing there's truth to Leo's words.
Number 22
Terese is still confused about why Paul changed his mind so suddenly about Roxy staying with them. Paul says he realised he was being petty giving Terese an ultimatum and he understands how important family is to her. Roxy quietly listens from the stairs while they continue their chat in the kitchen.
TERESE: I know Roxy's been a handful but there's no malice in it, she's just a bit lost.
PAUL: Yeah, well, hopefully she'll clean up her act.
TERESE: With the right guidance I think she'll do wonderful things here.
PAUL: She's certainly got the best teacher in the world hasn't she.
TERESE: Thank you, that really means a lot.
PAUL: I've taken in my fair share of stray nieces and nephews over the years so I understand the urge. Did you find out where all her money came from?
TERESE: Yeah, yeah I did.
PAUL: And?
TERESE: The details are Roxy's business. I wouldn't feel comfortable sharing it. But you've got nothing to worry about.
Roxy looks pleased that Terese has kept her confidence. Her phone starts buzzing and Vance Abernethy's name comes up on the caller ID. She creeps back upstairs to answer.
Number 32
Leo, Chloe, Aaron and David don't look too thrilled that Kyle's called a house meeting. Aaron wants to know if it's about the men's jocks he found on the kitchen table the other day. Kyle claims responsibility for those, but that's not what the meeting's about. Chloe becomes alarmed when Kyle says he wants to discuss "house relations" and even more so when he starts blathering on about "hypotheticals".
KYLE: I suppose I was wondering, hypothetically, what you guys would think if Chloe and I were, hypothetically, hooking up?
LEO: Hypothetically, I don't think I'd really care either way.
DAVID: I suppose, hypothetically, if you two had genuine feelings for each other...
CHLOE: (uncomfortable) Oh, woah, let's just dial back on the feelings chat. It's genuine, just... genuine fun times! Guess we can drop the hypotheticallys, huh? Thanks for springing this on me.
KYLE: Well you thought they disapproved but it's all good, right?
AARON: (weary) Look, as long as we set ground rules it should be fine.
DAVID: Yeah like if you two end things you need to stay civil for everyone's sake.
KYLE: We're grown-ups, mate. I think we can handle it.
CHLOE: Would I ever make things awkward for you guys?
Leo's had enough of the group chat and jumps up to leave, putting the meeting to an end. Aaron follows suit, deftly leaping over the back of the couch and David copies his husband in a much-less agile manner. Now alone, Kyle's quite chuffed that he and Chloe don't have to keep things on the down low anymore but Chloe sighs and says there's something important Kyle needs to know: "If you mentioned you were doing this I would have told you earlier... It's about Paul."
The Waterhole
Amy and Gary are chatting on a couch while Terese and Paul are at the bar. Kyle storms in and makes an angry beeline for Paul.
KYLE: You just can't help yourself, can you? You think you can manipulate people into doing whatever you want?
PAUL: Kyle I've got no idea what you're talking about.
Hearing the ruckus, Gary and Amy walk over to see what's wrong.
KYLE: Oh don't give me that. Did you or did you not pay Chloe to stay away from me?
AMY: What?!
KYLE: Yeah! He was hoping if he kept me single long enough, me and you might get back together! (facing Paul) And I told you I didn't want anything to do with your messed-up games, but you found a way to drag me back in anyway, didn't you?
PAUL: Maybe we should go somewhere...
KYLE: No, Amy and dad are happy together. You need to accept that. I'm done with your games, Paul, and I'm done with Robinson Pines.
Kyle leaves in a fit of rage. Gary calls Paul "pathetic" and walks off with Amy, while Terese fumes and can't even bring herself to look at Paul.
Lassiters Complex
Paul chases Terese outside and tells her that he did everything for Amy's sake. He wants Amy to see that she has options and that she doesn't have to settle for Gary.
TERESE: Can you hear yourself? Amy is a grown woman capable of making her own decisions. You promised me you were done with this behaviour!
PAUL: I know and I'm sorry. Please...
He tries to take her hand but Terese furiously snatches it away.
TERESE: Let me go unless you want everyone to witness me tear you a new one. We will talk at home if I haven't changed the locks!
Terese walks away leaving Paul stewing in his terrible life choices.
Lassiters Hotel/Complex
Terese is in the elevator with Roxy and has just explained her fight with Paul. Roxy's apologetic and tells Terese she already knew Paul was giving Chloe money. She should've told Terese earlier, but that was her leverage to stay in #22. They head out of the hotel and walk into the complex.
ROXY: Are you sure you want to be with him? Because from what I've seen he is not nearly as nice as you are.
TERESE: Look I can understand why you'd find it baffling. I'm not really setting a good example.
ROXY: No but you are in lots of other things. And what I want to know is why you'd give up a hottie with dimples and all those limbs just to get with that grumpy old man!
TERESE: What Leo and I had was special, but ultimately we're two very different people.
ROXY: And you and Paul?
TERESE: We're both driven by the same thing. He just stirs something in me, and that's why even though he does appalling things, I still love him.
ROXY: That feeling doesn't come around every day, huh?
TERESE: Actually I have had that feeling once before.
ROXY: With Uncle Brad?
TERESE: No with my first love.
ROXY: Ooh, do tell!
TERESE: The less said about him the better. He was a bad boy.
Roxy smiles and says they really do have a lot of things in common. Terese replies that's exactly what she's worried about.
Number 22
Terese arrives home to find Paul starting dinner but she tells him right off the bat it's going to take a lot more than cooking a meal to earn forgiveness. Paul wants to know what he has to do to make things better.
TERESE: You've lost any right to complain about Roxy being here. How's the girl supposed to turn her life around when you're dragging her into your childish games?
PAUL: Hang on a minute...
TERESE: Do you really want to argue with me on this right now? When you told me you understood why I wanted to help Roxy that meant so much to me. And then to find out it was just a cover story.
PAUL: No it wasn't, honestly I meant it. You have to understand, everything I did I did for Amy. Even if I did handle it...
TERESE: Atrociously. You moving in here was supposed to bring us closer.
Paul puts on his hangdog expression and asks what Terese wants him to do, but Terese honestly has no idea.
Number 32
Chloe asks David and Aaron if they've heard from Kyle as he's not answering her calls, but they haven't. Luckily Kyle magically appears so the boys leave to give them space to talk. Chloe tells Kyle was she did was stupid and she's sorry; she should've never let Paul talk her into it. Kyle doesn't understand why Chloe accepted the money in the first place.
KYLE: You told me you weren't worried about me and Amy.
CHLOE: I'm not. That's why I thought this would be the perfect plan. I've no interest in doing Paul's ugly bidding ever again. But because I knew there was nothing between you and Amy I figured I was safe to take his cash, and Paul would be the only one getting played. Plus it was payback for him making me think that you still had a thing for her.
KYLE: Well I don't mind you fleecing Paul. But I wish you wouldn't have lied to me.
CHLOE: I know. I'm an idiot.
KYLE: Yeah but you're a clever idiot. I like that.
Forgiveness seems to have been reached as they smile and start kissing.
Number 22/Backyard
Roxy finds Terese looking through her box of memories from her Darwin days, including concert tickets and a silver bracelet she got from her old boyfriend. Roxy's about to look through the photos when she gets a call from Vance and takes it outside.
Roxy asks Vance when he's coming down to see her, disappointed when he doesn't give her a more definite answer than "soon". She promises him that while she had to tell Aunty T the truth about the money, she hasn't revealed anything about him to anyone.
Meanwhile, Terese can't help looking at the photo of her younger self and Vance with a fond smile on her face.
Ramsay Street
Gary and Amy have told Sheila about Kyle ripping Paul a new one at the pub, and Sheila is immensely disappointed she missed the show. Amy can't help wondering if Kyle's okay, especially now he's out of a job. Sheila spies Paul arrive back with a bunch of flowers in his hand for Terese. Gary and Amy go over to confront him.
GARY: If you think flowers are going to get you out of the doghouse you're more deluded than I thought.
PAUL: You know what, I wouldn't have thought that your track record would qualify you for advice, Gary.
GARY: Yeah well Amy and I have never been stronger despite your grubby attempt to break us up.
PAUL: Amy I know that you're angry with me.
AMY: Nah, I'm not angry, dad. I'm so far past angry. The only thing I feel when I look at you is sad. So why don't you just worry about your own life because you're messing that up all over again.
Gary swings an arm over Amy's shoulder as they head back home. Paul suspects Sheila wants to put her two bob's worth in as well, but Sheila only shrugs at him and walks off. Paul turns around and discovers that Leo has witnessed the whole sorry exchange.
Number 26
Gary thinks he and Amy should celebrate surviving another "Paul Robinson sabotage attempt". Amy can't help wondering if her dad's game made Gary feel threatened, but Gary replies that he's stronger than that. Amy's pleased to hear it and starts kissing Gary. Things heat up between them but Amy suddenly freezes when she imagines Kyle in Gary's place. Imaginary Kyle tells Amy that he's "missed this so much" and declares his love for her. Amy quickly brings herself back to reality.
GARY: Wow, that was quite a kiss. Where did you go?
AMY: Nowhere. I'm right here.
Amy gives Gary her best, reassuring, didn't-just-imagine-pashing-your-son smile.
