Recap
- Gary hires Sindi to help at The Retreat while he spends time with Xanthe.
- Sheila tries to do damage limitation with Xanthe by telling her that medicine is very competitive, but Xanthe thinks Sheila doesn't have faith in her abilities.
- While Xanthe lies in a hospital bed, Sheila tells her how proud she is of her.
- Xanthe wakes up.
- Paul's contacts find Andrea in Hobart. He advises Sonya to go down and see her before Toadie finds out.
- Sonya manoeuvres things so that she is going to a flower expo on her own, then sneaks off to Tasmania.
- Sonya looks through the window of a hospital room at Andrea, who looks mentally unwell.
Hospital in Hobart
Andrea stares into space as Sonya continues to watch. Presently, she goes in to the room. Andrea looks at her vacantly.
SONYA: Andrea. What was you doing here? What's happened to you? Why are you here, Tasmania, huh? You don't know who I am.
A slight shake of the head.
SONYA: You were just in Perth with Sindi. Do you remember that? Remember Willow? Remember Hugo?
Andrea continues to look at her.
SONYA: come...what are you doing, huh? Just what are you doing, OK? What game are you playing at?!
Erinsborough Hospital
Piper is visiting Xanthe. Sheila comes in with some flowers from Ben and starts fussing over Xanthe. Xanthe tells her that she remembers their argument and tells Sheila that she forgives her. She does need a favour, though.
Hospital in Hobart
Andrea is lying on the bed, catatonic, while Sonya talks to a doctor outside the door. Sonya tells him that her name is Andrea Somers and has a six month old baby. Apparently she was found wandering the streets and was brought in yesterday.
SONYA: So, what do you think is wrong with her?
DOCTOR: Well, given what you've just told me, and the symptoms she's exhibiting...she may be suffering from post-natal psychosis.
SONYA: Psychosis?
DOCTOR: Well, that's just a preliminary diagnosis.
SONYA: You think it's genuine?
DOCTOR: We've no reason to think it isn't.
SONYA: It's...it's just there's...a lot of history there...
The Doctor suggests that they talk further, and he'll have to update the police as well.
Sonya waits ffor him to come back, staring through the window at Andrea.
The Retreat
Amy comes in and is surprised to find Sindi working there. She is rather alarmed to hear that Steph doesn't know about this.
Erinsborough Hospital
Sheila is testing Xanthe on her biology notes when Clive and Gary come in. Clive tells Xanthe that she has to rest, but Xanthe is still set on doing the UMAT test next week.
Hospital in Hobart
Sonya goes back into Andrea's room.
SONYA: If this is about the money, OK, you're faking it because you can't pay us back? Then really, just don't worry about it, OK, we're not going to press any charges...
But Andrea has become agitated and starts shouting.
The Doctor ushers Sonya out and Andrea gives her a triumphant look.
(Later)
Toadie calls Sonya to see how she's getting on at the "flower expo". She chats with him while still outside Andrea's room.
Lassiter's
Paul asks Chloe to get supplies for personalised Christmas baubles. Chloe isn't keen to step on Terese's toes, but he tells her to get on with it.
Amy comes in and asks Paul what the story is with Sindi. Paul tells her that Sindi pushed Toadie down the stairs back in the day(!) and doesn't think she's changed much. Amy looks thoughtful.
Erinsborough Hospital (Reception)
Clive tells Sheila that Xanthe really mustn't be allowed to study. Sitting the test might set her health back, and she can always defer the test. Clive asks Sheila to convince Xanthe to defer.
Lassiter's outside
Amy asks Gary why he's hired Sindi at The Retreat. They row about it.
AMY: I don't trust her!
GARY: Well, I do. So, butt out, Amy.
He walks off.
No.30
Sonya comes in and calls out to Toadie, but he's not there. Paul pops round to see how things went in Hobart. Paul is surprised to hear that Andrea is suffering from psychosis. He advises her not to tell Toadie in case he rushes off to "save" the mother of his son.
PAUL: If you tell him about this, Andrea will become his top priority. Now, you need to start thinking about yourself, here.
SONYA: Yeah, I am, and part of that is trying to protect my marriage! I can't lie to him, Paul!
PAUL: You know what, if Andrea is messing you around again, you and I both know how it will end. See you later.
SONYA: Yeah. Thanks.
In Hobart, Andrea is still staring into space.
Xanthe's hospital room
Xanthe is keen to keep studying, but Sheila urges her to put off the test for a few weeks. Xanthe is not pleased and says she'll study on her own.
SHEILA: Now, listen to me. I believe in you, and I am 100% behind you, and nothing about that has changed. So...if you really want to do this test, then that's what we'll do.
Xanthe has started to cry.
(Later)
Sheila tells Clive that Xanthe is doing the test after all. Clive tells her straight that helping Xanthe to study is bad parenting.
CLIVE: She is in no state to sit that test and you're completely ignoring it!
SHEILA: I doubted her once. And it nearly broke her, and I'm not going to do that again!
CLIVE: OK, I understand that you are trying to make her feel better, but this is your guilt speaking, it's not what Xanthe needs.
SHEILA: You don't know what she needs! You don't know her like I do and I wish you would stop sticking your nose in where it doesn't belong!
She stalks off.
Outside Harold's café
Toadie and Aaron are chatting when Amy comes along. She coos over Hugo. Aaron comments on what a legend Sonya is for looking after Hugo and a bit of an awkward silence descends. Toadie admits honestly that Hugo is a reminder of Andrea who is there all the time.
Amy asks Toadie what he thinks of Gary hiring Sindi. He says that Sindi has had a chequered past...but then again, so has Steph, and Gary too. He thinks Sindi has changed and should be given a second chance. Amy looks thoughtful.
Xanthe's hospital room
Chloe has brought Xanthe a Wonder Woman DVD to reflect her actions in saving her life.
When they've gone, Xanthe tries to write, but she can't hold the pen. She winces in pain as her hand shakes.
The Retreat
Sindi is doing a good job at The Retreat and keeping on top of all the bookings. Amy comes to tell her that she won't talk to Steph about her. Sindi assures Amy that she is trying to change. Amy will keep an eye on the place anyway, though.
No.30
Toadie comes in and asks Sonya if she has any flower samples. He tells her he's going to make her a lovely dinner tonight because she's really amazing.
TOADIE: I love you, Sonya Rebecchi.
SONYA:(awkwardly) I love you too.
He heads off to the shops.
When he's gone, Sonya calls Paul and leaves a message on his answerphone.
SONYA: Paul, it's Sonya. Um...look, I know what I said before, but I couldn't tell him, and I know that makes me the worst kind of liar. But, I mean...seeing Andrea today, looking in her eyes...I, um, I think I just need more time to process this. So please, don't say anything to Jarrod. Bye.
Unfortunately, use of the word "liar" has activated Lyra, the voice-operated helper gadget, which has recorded what Sonya has said.
