The regular credits are cut for a sparkling version of the Neighbours title card.
We're taken on a sweeping tour of the complex which has been completely decked out in 90s themed decoration. Four tellytubbies remove their heads to reveal Toadie, Stonefish, Stu and Lance! Toadie introduces his friends to each other who remind him they've coordinated costumes beforehand! Paige, dressed as Posh Spice, invites the group into the hotel, where they are welcomed by Terese, dressed as Xena! We're also rapidly introduced to Leo (Neo), Shane (Ace Ventura) and Steph (Madonna). Terese makes a brief speech welcoming the guests whilst Piper watches on from the courtyard in tears.
Tyler insists to Mark (dressed as the 8th Doctor Who) and Aaron (Baywatch lifeguard) that they're going to attend Toadie's party and enjoy it. They set off as Piper cuddles with Tyler in his chair. Tyler worries about prison and Piper suggests that they skip the party for the night instead.
Karl (Prince Charles) and Susan (Camilla) bicker as they head to the party. Piper gives Xanthe and Ben her and Tyler's costumes and tells Xanthe that they've booked a romantic night in the city. Piper gives her a tight hug and tearfully says how much she loves her, leaving Xanthe looking concerned.
The party is in full swing, and Sheila is showing off her dance moves, dressed as Austin Powers, to Karl and Susan. Amy (Rachel from ‘Friends') gets excited that Leo has just referred to Paul as ‘Dad'. Paul appears not to be in costume – only to reveal he's come as himself in the 90s! Elsewhere Susan is panicking to Karl as she has received a phonecall saying their retirement fund has been emptied. Karl confesses that he's donated it to the hospital wing, and Susan is understandably furious! Paige leaves Jack to look after Gabe, and is joined by Mark.
Tyler stares out of a hotel window in the centre of Melbourne. Piper tells Tyler to stop with the doom and gloom, but he reminds her that he's going to prison regardless of the verdict, and will have to face Banks.
PIPER: Unless there's another option? There's a reason why I brought you here away from everyone. I have a plan. We never go back. We run.
Xanthe (Britney Spears) and Ben (Justin Timberlake) have arrived at the party and Xanthe expresses her concerns about how Piper was acting oddly. Elsewhere Lance encourages Stu to pick up his phone, but when he sees who's calling, he says to keep quiet or else it will ruin Toadie's night. Susan storms past, still furious with Karl, and gets into the car to leave. She sets off rapidly, and drives into a pedestrian who has just crossed her path. The partygoer, dressed as Geri Halliwell, has lost her wig and has been knocked down… and it's none other than Izzy Hoyland!
Later, an ambulance has arrived and Karl dashes to Izzy's side in shock at what has happened.
IZZY: I was on my way to the party, and Susan, she came out of nowhere and ran me over…
SUSAN: It was an accident.
Karl offers to ride in the back of the ambulance with Izzy and Susan looks suitably aghast!
On the river bank, Piper cries as she thinks about Tyler's fate in prison. Tyler reminds Piper that Aaron and Mark have put up $200,000 for his bail and they'll lose the money if they go on the run. Piper insists that they'll pay them back eventually.
TYLER: Our family… our friends. It could be years before we get to see them again, okay, if ever! Can you cope with that?
TYLER: Your mum, gone. Xanthe, gone. My brothers.
PIPER: But Ty, we'll have each other and you'll be safe. And that's more important, isn't it?
TYLER: I don't know. I just don't know.
Karl and Susan have accompanied Izzy to her hospital room as David checks her over.
SUSAN: I'll admit I was a bit distracted, but this was an accident.
IZZY: Of course it was! I'll just say that I came out of nowhere.
SUSAN: You did.
IZZY: I'll say I wasn't looking.
SUSAN: Because you weren't!
KARL: Susan's a very careful driver… normally.
Susan leaves to speak to the police and take a breathalyser test whilst Izzy calls Karl her ‘Prince Charming'.
Kev Rebecchi has arrived dressed as Liam Gallagher, and Angie is dressed as… well, no one knows! They've gained an audience as they claim that they saw the whole car incident from the mezzanine but Aaron doesn't know who Izzy is.
PAUL: Oh for heaven's sakes! She destroyed Karl and Susan's marriage amongst other things. Who knows, she might be back to do it all over again!
Karl asks Susan in the corridor if the incident really was an accident and Susan is horrified that he could even imply such a thing! He encourages Susan to apologise, and she reluctantly does so. Izzy is quick to forgive and explains that she's staying in a hotel in Erinsborough to visit with Holly. Speaking of whom, Holly enters and surprises Karl and Susan, and Izzy is happy to see everyone reunited.
Leo tells David (dressed as Forrest Gump) about calling Paul ‘Dad', and jokes that David is now under pressure to do the same. Lance continues to tell Stu to call his mystery woman back and tell her ‘no', but the pair are interrupted by Steph and the Rebecchi brothers for the speeches. Meanwhile Paige receives a photo of Jack and Gabe at the rotunda and walks over to join them. She stops in her tracks at the sight of them together.
A mystery man stares ominously at photos of Ramsay Street residents that have been hung up for decoration. He enters the pub as Lance is mid- speech – he's been in contact with Harold, Lou and Andrew Robinson, and has eventually tracked down Toadie's mullet, now framed! Terese asks Mark is he's seen Tyler and Piper, and mistaking the costumes, he points out Ben and Xanthe across the pub.
Tyler and Piper sit in silence in their hotel room. Piper scares herself with her own reflection in the window and they share a giggle.
TYLER: Let's do it.
Susan and Karl continue to bicker about the day's events.
KARL: Is it possible that Izzy has no agenda?
SUSAN: Isabelle has never done anything in her life without an agenda!
Holly comments that Izzy seems to have made a miraculous recovery as she sits in bed filing her nails.
HOLLY: When are you going to tell them?
IZZY: It's not the right time.
HOLLY: Why not?
IZZY: Because they will judge us. Especially Susan. I promise I'll tell them… just not right now.
Sheila and Angie square each other up and ask one another who they're supposed to be dressed as.
ANGIE: Isn't it obvious?!
Elsewhere Paige tells Amy that she thinks things are weird between her and Jack and Amy encourages her to speak to him. Gary has arrived dressed as a man in his 90s and has his zimmer- frame kicked by Kev! Meanwhile, Paul takes a phone call and leaves his entry card on the bar. The mystery man has been lurking in the background and spots the card…
The mystery man enters Paul's empty apartment and wanders around. He ominously takes the white king from Paul's chess board and clutches it.
Jack is confused why Paige felt the need to find him because he hadn't replied to her. She says that she needed a breather from the party and Jack proposes they play a game of pool.
Tyler tells Piper that they need to make a completely clean break. Piper goes through the logistics – they can't leave a paper trail, and she's managed to get $10,000 in cash from Tyler's savings account. She suggests that they lie low whilst she arranges fake passports and then move to somewhere like South America without an expedition treaty. Piper also explains that they'll need to change their appearance.
Elly (dressed as Cheryl from ‘Clueless') suggests that Xanthe phones Piper if she's so concerned.
Piper is chopping up her and Tyler's bank cards and ignores a phonecall from Xanthe, who leaves a voicemail expressing her worries.
Lance and Stu joke about the guy they saw dressed as Doctor Who, and Lance tells Stu to get it together. Xanthe receives a voicemail from Piper and listens to it in Sheila's office.
PIPER (VOICEMAIL): Um, me and Tyler, we can't risk him going to jail, so we're not coming back. I'm so sorry I didn't tell you before, but it had to be a secret, and it has to be a secret Xanthe so you can't tell anyone. You're an amazing person Xanthe, and I know that you're going to be happy, because that's who you are.
Xanthe is interrupted by Terese, who is confused and thought she had found Piper. Xanthe explains the costume change and apologises for not having any more information. Meanwhile in the bar Stu continues the speeches for Toadie and he sticks his foot in it by mentioning Sindi and the Andrea fiasco. Toadie leaves the bar and Stu looks embarrassed.
Toadie is confronted by Sindi who warns him that Andrea is back in the country and has been tracking him. She says that she wants the decision to be his, so hands him a phone number for Andrea and leaves, whilst the rest of Toadie's friends watch on. Stu admits that he knew Sindi wanted to attend the party but didn't know why.
Paul, Amy, Leo and David arrive home from the party in high spirits. David apologises for not calling Paul ‘Dad' like Leo, but Paul isn't fazed and says that he's just happy they're together. The mystery stranger watches on from around the corner.
Piper and Tyler get into their disguises and destroy their SIM cards – Tyler chopping his bun and Piper donning a dark wig and makeup. They compare disguises in the mirror.
Paige and Jack finish their pool game, and she tells Jack to stop lusting over her. They make their way upstairs to check on Gabe and after discussing their history and their feelings, they both confess that they miss each other and kiss.
In a musical montage we see the following scenes: Susan awake in her bed whilst Karl sleeps, Izzy smiling as she receives a text saying ‘Tomorrow' from a private number, Toadie hiding Andrea's number away in a kitchen drawer, Paul sleeping whilst the mystery man stands over his bed, Jack and Paige in a post- coital cuddle, and finally Tyler and Piper lying together in bed.
TYLER: I'm scared.
PIPER: I'm scared too.
TYLER: You know it's not too late to back out. We could still show up tomorrow, they'll never know. I don't want you to throw away your life for me.
PIPER: Not being with you Tyler, that's throwing my life away. There's no life apart, there just can't be.
Susan gazes out of the living room window as we see a flashback to an argument between her and Izzy on the street. Elly enters and reminds Susan that her history with Izzy was a lifetime ago. Susan counters that Izzy hasn't changed and worries for Holly after she was abandoned at Christmas.
ELLY: You're not worried about Karl as well are you?
SUSAN: I trust him, I do. But Isabelle, she has this way of manipulating him, and he can't even see what she's doing! And I have a horrible feeling that it's starting all over again, and she's only just got here.
ELLY: Where is Karl anyway?
Karl offers to take Holly out for brunch and Izzy thanks him for his help. Izzy receives a text and is overjoyed that her ‘inheritance' of £41 million has been confirmed!
HOLLY: What are we going to do with it?!
IZZY: It's going to get me everything I want.
Jack checks in the mystery stranger to his room. Paige is skittish as she heads off after her night with Jack. In his dorm, the stranger removes his shirt to reveal a back marbled in scars.
Terese confirms to Mark that she thinks Paige stayed at home the previous night. They suddenly worry as they realise that neither Piper nor Tyler returned home after the party.
No. 26 Backyard
Terese interrupts a Canning breakfast to demand Xanthe if she knows Piper's whereabouts. Xanthe confesses that she knows Piper and Tyler spent the night in a hotel in the city together, as Piper left a voicemail to say goodbye.
TERESE: Goodbye? They're coming back though, aren't they? Aren't they?!
Erinsborough Police Station
Mishti and Terese listen back to the voicemail, and Terese begs her to find Piper before it's too late.
Piper and Tyler have donned their disguises and suddenly panic as they hear sirens wailing on the street.
PIPER: They might not be for us.
TYLER: Of course they're for us. What do you want to do? Hey! What do you want to do?
Tyler grabs a bag and they race down the hotel corridor. They avoid the lift and head to the fire escape, although police are already charging up the stairs. They head up instead and find themselves on the roof of the hotel.
A police helicopter circles overhead as Tyler helps Piper up behind the hotel sign and they race across the rooftops. They become trapped and Tyler contemplates jumping from one building to another.
TYLER: I'm going Pipes.
PIPER: I can't make that!
TYLER: On my own.
PIPER: What are you talking about?
TYLER: You're staying.
TYLER: Stop okay, I've made a decision!
PIPER: What, and I don't get a say?
TYLER: You need to go and live your life.
PIPER: Yeah, with you!
TYLER: Without me!
PIPER: Tyler, what's the point of living if it's not with you! Please, I love you!
TYLER: I love you too, but I'm only ever going to bring you down.
PIPER: No you wouldn't, never.
TYLER: Look around you! Look what you're doing, look what I made you do!
PIPER: You didn't make me doing anything!
TYLER: Come with me now and you're a criminal, I won't do that to you.
PIPER: Tyler you can't stop me.
TYLER: I'll always love you, okay. But this is where it has to end, you don't have a choice. Blame it all on me, tell them it was all my idea, that I made you do it.
PIPER: Tyler, no!
TYLER: Then turn around, go home, hug your mum and have the most amazing life that I know you will have, okay, without me. I love you Pipes.
Piper screams after Tyler as he mounts the side of the building and jumps to the other. Piper chases after him and finds herself stood at the edge of the building, contemplating whether or not to jump as well. After a few seconds hesitation, Piper jumps as well but just misses and ends up dangling from the side by her fingers! Piper sobs and screams as she is left dangling. As the helicopter continues to circle, Tyler runs back to grab Piper's arms and almost drops her. A stranger approaches to help and they both manage to lift Piper to safety.
STRANGER: Are you alright? You're under arrest, both of you.
Izzy and Holly walk up the street as Izzy takes a trip down memory lane. She has flashbacks to an argument with Susan over Karl, and Susan screaming at Karl after finding out about Izzy's pregnancy.
Izzy and Holly drop by, much to Susan's displeasure. Izzy explains that she's been given the all clear and awkwardly introduces herself to Ben and Elly.
IZZY: Ben, Elly, maybe you could pop and grab some coffee? From memory, you always loved plunger, Susan.
Elly quickly jumps in to suggest that Susan show Holly the greenhouse whilst her and Izzy get better acquainted.
Paige stares up at No. 24.
Mark asks Paige if she's heard anything from Piper or Tyler but she hasn't. Mark suggests that she give Jack a call as he was counselling Piper. Terese receives a call and sounds worried.
Paul teases Karl around the accident with Izzy and says that he can't wait to catch up with her. He shows Karl a photo of Nell Mangel's portrait and suggests that it could hang in the new Helen Daniels wing.
Karl returns home as Ben and Elly head off. Izzy announces that she was married to a man named Clint in the Alps but it only lasted a day.
SUSAN: Oh right. Probably shouldn't have rushed into it then.
IZZY: Clint died. I'm a widow.
Erinsborough Police Station
Piper waits as Tyler is taken into an interrogation room. Terese comforts Piper and the Detective explains that all charges against her have been dropped.
TERESE: What were you thinking? Going on the run!
PIPER: I'm so sorry. I love Tyler, Mum, and I need to be with him.
TERESE: You could have died!
Piper speculates that the police traced the credit card that she used to book the hotel as she breaks down in Terese's arms.
Izzy continues to tell the story of Clint.
IZZY: He had the energy of a man a third of his age.
SUSAN: And what age was that?
IZZY: 89, but everyone said that he looked like he was in his seventies!
Izzy explains that Clint passed away ‘with a smile on his face' in her arms and Susan looks disgusted! Karl offers to help financially but Izzy kindly rejects the offer, citing the £41 million figure and showing off her enormous diamond ring!
Piper tells Mark that they have to speak to Tyler. Aaron explains that Tyler's barrister has pulled out.
Erinsborough Police Station
Toadie tells Tyler that he has been charged with failing to answer bail and it's unlikely that the trial will be delayed. Toadie says that he will represent Tyler until someone is able to replace the barrister.
Piper explains the situation with Banks to a horrified Aaron and Mark and hopes that Toadie can convince the judge that running was her idea.
Erinsborough Police Station
TYLER: Toadie, as a friend. Be honest. What should I do?
TOADIE: You're aware how strong the case is against you. You've just made it a whole lot stronger trying to run.
Toadie explains that if Tyler is found guilty and will almost definitely be given 20- 22 years in jail. If he pleads guilty however, Toadie can try to fight for a short sentence – but a jail sentence is on the cards either way.
Paige fills Jack in about Tyler and Piper, and says that she feels so guilty about their night together. Paige insists that they have to tell Steph and Mark what happened today.
Tyler is lead to the dock and Judge Challis enters. Toadie requests that Tyler can change his plea following the latest events.
JUDGE CHALLIS: Tyler John Brennan. You are charged that on the sixth day of November 2017, at Erinsborough in the State of Victoria, you did murder Hamish Roach. How do you plead, guilty or not guilty?
Mark and Piper shout out and are ordered to be silent. The Judge makes it clear that Tyler will now be found guilty of murder.
Izzy and Holly return from an extravagant shopping spree. Paul enters and they size each other up.
PAUL: Well, well, well. Izzy Hoyland.
IZZY: Paul Robinson.
PAUL: You look a million bucks.
IZZY: More true than you know.
PAUL: Hey, I heard that you ran into Karl and Susan – oh! Wrong choice of words, hey? Did you get hitched?
IZZY: Yes but I'm widowed now.
Paul jokes that she's clearly enjoying the inheritance and mentions that he's donating a lot of money to the new hospital wing. Izzy is intrigued!
Toadie pleads Tyler's case as Piper, Mark, Aaron and Terese watch on.
TOADIE: Your honour, the man who stands before you is not a criminal. He acknowledges what he has done is wrong but he has been a victim too. A victim of years of abuse from Russell Brennan. And he managed to pull his life together and contribute to his community, until once again he fell for the manipulations of a cruel and abusive man.
Toadie explains that a large amount of submissions have been written by Tyler's friends, and Toadie himself vouches for Tyler's kindness as a neighbour. The court is adjourned until the sentencing the following morning.
Paige tells Jack and Steph that Mark is distraught about the latest developments in Tyler's trial. Steph goes to comfort Mark, whilst Paige tells Jack that they can no longer confess their night together whilst the trial is on.
Izzy interrupts a meeting between Susan and Paul about the hospital board, and explains that she met Clive that afternoon to offer a $20million donation to the hospital. Izzy explains that she has trumped Paul's naming rights, and wants to name the new wing after Karl!
The court is seated for Tyler's sentencing.
JUDGE CHALLIS: Mr Rebecchi made a compelling plea in mitigation, and I believe that Mr Brennan has demonstrated remorse through his plea od guilty. However, ultimately his actions have left a man dead. There was intent. It is murder. And to avoid being caught, Mr Brennan exploited relationships with his mother, brothers and girlfriend, exposing them to personal danger.
Tyler is made to stand.
JUDGE CHALLIS: Tyler John Brennan. You are sentenced to twenty years imprisonment, to be served concurrently with your sentence for failure to answer bail. In recognition of your youth and your good prospects for rehabilitation, I set a non- parole period of ten years.
Piper screams and tries to run to the dock. She cries and is comforted by her family as Tyler is lead out of the court.
