Number 32 back yard
Kirsha is stroking Clementine the next morning. Dipi tells her she's late for school but Kirsha doesn't want to go. Xanthe arrives to walk her to school and asks if she's told her mum about Tia. Kirsha shakes her head.
Paul wants an answer from Amy about giving Jayden a job. Amy doesn't like being blackmailed or covering up what happened but Leo is on Paul's side; it's not his fault the previous owners were underpaid. Amy agrees to give Jayden an interview, but only an interview.
Karl talks to Ben about Xanthe staying over while they were away and checks they were safe and responsible. Ben is taking his driving test today.
KARL: It seems like a million years ago I did my driving test.
BEN: Probably because it was!
KARL: Hey, hey, I remember what it was like to be your age, you know. I remember feeling like you have to wait for your next step. But I warn you... you blink, and you're facing retirement! You wonder if you've made the most of your life... if your best days are behind you...
BEN: Well you're not that old, even if you do drive like one of those old grandads who never goes...
KARL: There's nothing wrong with driving slow if the prevailing conditions warrant it.
Karl offers to walk with Ben to pass on some knowledge.
Jayden arrives for his interview.
JAYDEN: What happened to Kyle Canning? This used to be his yard. He moved onto bigger and better things did he?
AMY: Yeah, something like that.
JAYDEN: What about Tyler? He still there or is he...?
AMY: Yep, yep.
JAYDEN: Hey, do you know his friend Paige Smith?
AMY: I do actually, why?
JAYDEN: Oh, I haven't seen her in ages. She's hot!
AMY: You haven't been to many job interviews in your time have you, Jayden?
JAYDEN: Oh yeah, I've been to stacks. Just haven't gotten any of them!
Amy leads him inside the office but Jayden is looking at her backside and trips over the step and hits his head!
Adrian Snyder shows up, looking for Tyler but he's got the day off. He tells Ben to get Tyler to call him ASAP; he hasn't followed up on a job, and he may have more stuff he needs him to do.
Xanthe and Kirsha arrive and Xanthe asks Jimmy to walk Kirsha to her class. Elly is lecturing Tia and reminds her about her detention this afternoon. Xanthe comments on her following the Susan Kennedy playbook and Elly hopes she can live up to that standard all the time. She apologises again for misjudging Xanthe. Susan's at a conference so Elly's in charge this morning. Tia sticks her used chewing gum in Kirsha's hair.
Jayden is holding his head and isn't into the interview at all. He sees himself still at home on the dole in five years' time. Amy says he has a supportive mother with a lot of professional contacts but Jayden says she's been down after getting done for corruption on the council and his dad leaving. He only wants the job because Sue will crack it if he doesn't get it! Amy tries to give him some interview advice and asks if he's ever thought about TAFE but Jayden says he's applied and they didn't want him.
JAYDEN: I guess I just mucked around too much at school. Got bad marks… a bad rep. It's pretty hard to come back from that kind of thing.
Xanthe gives Kirsha a hug and cuts the gum out of her hair. Xanthe tells Kirsha she needs to tell her mum, or at least Elly. Kirsha reminds her that Tia put all those bottles in her bag the last time she went to Elly. She asks Xanthe to promise she won't say anything. Kirsha goes off and Xanthe tells Jimmy that someone needs to know...
They have clearly told Jack as he tries to talk to Kirsha in the empty classroom but she doesn't want to talk about it. Jack tries to suggest mediation with Elly and Tia but Kirsha just wants to forget about it and hope Tia finds someone else to pick on.
Gary and Karl are discussing Toadie's party when Ben comes in, having passed his driving test. He asks if he can borrow Karl's car to take Xanthe for a drive.
KARL: He'll have to start saving for his own car.
GARY: Yeah, [under his breath] let's hope it takes a while!
They leave as Paul and Amy come in.
AMY: I still can't believe I told him I'd give him a trial.
PAUL: Yeah, well that's because you like to see the best in people, and don't let anybody ever tell you that's a bad thing.
AMY: I'm pretty sure you make fun of my bleeding heart all the time!
Paul thanks Amy but she has a condition; she wants to share a cut of the profits with the original homeowners who lost out. Paul isn't impressed but Amy has him over a barrel.
PAUL: Remind me never to make fun of your bleeding heart again!
Elly brings Tia into her office with Jack and Kirsha but Kirsha says maybe she's just being too sensitive. Tia denies putting gum in her hair and Elly says they need to get their parents in here.
A road somewhere
Ben and Xanthe are kissing in the back seat of Karl's car but Xanthe isn't into it. She can't stop thinking about Kirsha. Ben says he's all over the place as well and tells Xanthe about Adrian Snyder coming back to the garage. He hasn't called Tyler as he doesn't want to bother him and Piper on their road trip. He'll talk to him when he gets back.
Leo has arrived and isn't too happy about being out of pocket but Amy tells him he'll have to put up with it as she's holding up her end of the agreement. She's chosen to be positive about Jayden and with some guidance she thinks he could turn out to be OK. Jayden opens the side of the ute and a load of posts roll off.
AMY: I said OK, not brilliant!
Dipi spots Tia throwing sweets at Kirsha and chases her off. She asks Kirsha if she's OK but Kirsha doesn't answer.
Ben and Xanthe return in Karl's car. Xanthe is bummed they didn't win the Lassiters dream event competition but it's important they celebrate their 3.5 month anniversary properly! She suggests a road trip to the Gold Coast. They suddenly notice Clementine lying in the street and Ben wonders if he hit her.
Dipi storms in with Kirsha and confronts Elly for not telling her that her daughter was being tormented by a bully. Elly says she was literally about to call her. Dipi tells her she's failing miserably in her duty of care to her students. The department of education will be hearing about this. She leaves, taking Kirsha with her.
Jack follows Elly into the office and tells her not to let it get to her but Elly feels humiliated. What if Dipi was right? Susan returns and says it sounds like there's been a problem.
Clementine is foaming at the mouth. Ben and Xanthe wrap her in a towel and find a note: "To our neighbourhood garden gnome killer. We don't like waiting."
