Shane follows a furious Dipi out into the back garden. She says Shane should be furious too, as he's the one who Leo is ripping off. Shane denies that's the case.
DIPI: Leo does not have your best interests at heart. He is only thinking of himself.
SHANE: No, he feels bad that Levi pulled out of the deal. He's helping me – us – out!
DIPI: He's taking advantage of the situation by using his relationship with Mishti as leverage!
SHANE: Can you keep your voice down?
DIPI: I don't care if he can hear me!!
SHANE: You're wrong! Look, if you keep going on about it you're gonna make things really hard for Mishti.
DIPI: If Leo really felt bad, then he would've matched Levi's offer. But he didn't. He set you up.
Steph and Jack are relaxing with drinks after their couple's massage at the retreat. Steph spots Amy leaving with takeaway and the pair hug, Amy welcoming Steph home. Steph tells Amy she's going to shout her the full luxury spa package for running the place while she was gone. Amy says that's not necessary; she was happy to help.
Amy gives Steph some flyers that Terese has passed to her to put on the desk at the retreat, regarding the ‘dream party' promotion that Lassiter's is running. Entrants describe their dream event and if their entry gets chosen as the winner, Lassiter's will make it happen…
Terese is welcoming Paige back from Queensland, and asks for an update on Louise's trial. Paige says that the defence is putting up a good fight, and that it's been tough on Mark. Terese asks Paige and Piper what their plans are for Australia Day; they were both planning on going to No 32 for Shane and Dipi's barbecue.
Terese asks if Piper will be doing a vlog on Australia Day. Piper says that she's planning on doing a video on Tyler instead…
We cut to Piper explaining her idea to Toadie; she wants the video to be about who Tyler is, and include vox pops of his friends and family. It will be a ‘heartwarming biography/profile piece'. Toadie is immediately sceptical, and Piper can see it in his face.
PIPER: You hate it.
TOADIE: I know that this is coming from a place of love.
PIPER: Yes, exactly.
TOADIE: But that doesn't make it the right thing to do.
PIPER: I just don't see how this could be a bad thing.
TOADIE: Well, that's because you're too close to the situation. This could complicate the trial.
PIPER: But since Tyler's not testifying, it's like he doesn't have a voice at all.
TOADIE: That's what he's got the barrister and myself for.
PIPER: Tyler has to sit in that courtroom each day, and listen to the prosecution paint him as this murderer. All in this detached, procedural, unemotional way. See, I want to do something that is from the heart, so Ty knows that the people out here don't think of him as the bad guy. It'll be like we get to testify for him.
TOADIE: … You can make a video about how your boyfriend is such a great guy. You can't say anything about the trial, or mention the case at all.
PIPER: I won't.
TOADIE: I mean it, Piper. You are treading a very fine line here. This cannot be connected to the case in any way.
PIPER: Got it.
Paige and Jack are discussing a christening- type celebration for Gabe. But they've decided on no church – just the three of them and some close friends and family. Paige wants to wait until Mark is back from Port Lincoln so he doesn't miss out, and Jack fully agrees that he has to be there. Jack also says they need to choose godparents and that perhaps they could choose one each.
PAIGE: Do you still want a Catholic godparent?
JACK: Wow, you actually remember your Bible studies.
PAIGE: No, I think I was more interested in the teacher than the actual studies!
Looking a little awkward at this, Jack suggests he could choose the Catholic godparent, admitting that he has someone in mind already.
Mishti apologises to Leo for Dipi being so ‘fiery', saying it's normal for her when she thinks someone's taking advantage. Mishti adds that the situation with Leo misadvising Shane does look a bit suss ‘from the outside'.
LEO: What, you think it looks like I deliberately made Shane stuff up his deal so I could move in on it?
MISHTI: From the outside.
LEO: Well, what about from the inside?
LEO: You agree with her!
MISHTI: Leo –
LEO: Yeah, because I'm the guy who's done dodgy deals in the past, just like my dodgy father. So everything I do, I'm trying to rip people off, right?
MISHTI: No! You know I don't think that's true!
LEO: I feel terrible about what happened to Shane, and my offer was genuine. But this isn't about the deal, is it? This is about Us™. And you not trusting me.
MISHTI: Of course I trust you.
LEO: You know what? Forget about it.
Leo goes to leave, despite Mishti's protestations.
The following day, Dipi, Shane and Yashvi are preparing for the Australia Day celebrations.
SHANE: I reckon it'd be more Australian if we changed the date to include everyone, though!
Dipi asks Yashvi to pick up some food from the café. She heads off to do so, jokingly warning that she may eat much of the food on the way home.
Mishti comes in, and says that she thinks Dipi should apologise to Leo if he comes to the barbecue today. Dipi scoffs at this idea, but Mishti says she believes Leo, and that he's really offended by the suggestion that he set Shane up. Dipi retorts that the truth sometimes hurts.
DIPI: I'm sorry if standing up for our family made things uncomfortable for you (!)
MISHTI: Come on, Dip.
DIPI: You know what's really embarrassing? That time when my sister arrested my husband in front of the whole street – yeah, that was really awkward!
Shane intervenes, telling them to cut it out; they have a barbecue to host.
Later, in the back garden, the party has started – and among the guests are Piper, Elly, Amy and Jack. Toadie and Sonya arrive too, with Angie's ‘roo pie, famous across Colac!' Amy queries whether it might be un- Australian to put kangaroos in a pie.
TOADIE: Pies and kangaroos are the most Australian things I can think of. This is perfection!
Amy asks after Nell; Sonya explains that she's Not In This Episode™ - she's having a playdate, which will be the last one before she starts school. Toadie and Sonya take the pie indoors. Meanwhile, Jack asks Amy a favour.
JACK: I won't be offended if you can't, or you won't – I'll be fine.
AMY: Might help if I knew what the favour was.
JACK: Right, yeah. Umm, would you like to be Gabe's godmother?
Amy is overwhelmed, and hugs Jack.
AMY: Yes! Of course, I would love to be Gabe's godmother. I'm honoured you even thought of me.
JACK: Yeah. Nah, you were number five – everyone else was busy (!)
Jack explains that Paige is choosing the other godparent, and that he's pretty sure she'll just pick Mark. Jack says that's fine by him; they've sorted out their differences, Mark loves Gabe, and he doesn't think Steph will have a problem with it.
Piper approaches, and asks Amy and Jack if they'll help out with her project for Tyler. They agree.
Preparations are underway for a big street cricket match. In attendance are Shane, Mishti, Yashvi, Dipi, Sheila, Gary and Toadie. Shane and Gary's relationship seems to have fully recovered following Shane's outburst last week. The topic of Yashvi soon going back to school crops up, and she promises not to get into any more trouble this year…
YASHVI: … until Muck- Up Day.
SHANE: Hey, I heard that!
Gary says that Xanthe will keep an eye on Yashvi, reminding us that she's resitting Year 12 and saying that he'd never have been able to do that himself.
DIPI: Not a good student, Gaz?
SHEILA: Oh, no – Gary's favourite subject was lunch!
Shane asks Sheila what her favourite subject was, and Sheila says she can't remember and walks away – school still being a bit of a sore point for her. Dipi rolls her eyes at Shane.
SHANE: I hated school. Wish I'd stuck at it, though – maybe I wouldn't be such a knucklehead.
Leo turns up, and Mishti apologises for last night, assuring him that she believes his side of the story. Leo admits that his track record doesn't give him the right to get on his high horse. They agree to put it behind them, but Leo looks over at Dipi, wondering whether that will apply to the whole family…
The party has moved back to the poolside, where Shane, Leo, Toadie, Sonya, Sheila, Yashvi, Mishti, Piper and Elly are hanging out. Shane and Leo discuss the Lassiter's dream party promotion – Shane has put his suggestion on the Wishing Tree, which is a rodeo/sheep- shearing/barrel- racing event!
Dipi emerges with half- time pies prior to the second innings at cricket – but conspicuously fails to offer Leo one. Sensing she's still mad with him, Leo goes over to try and patch things up.
DIPI: Leo, I don't want to ruin my day talking to you.
MISHTI: Dip, please, he is trying!
DIPI: Yeah, trying to rip our family off!
Dipi is unwilling to discuss the topic further, but she then trips on some pool furniture, and she and Leo both end up plummeting into the swimming pool together! Everyone gasps, as Dipi starts splashing Leo, accusing her of knocking her in on purpose. Shane tells them that they need to sort out their differences now!
Indoors, Leo assures Dipi that his business advice to Shane was honestly given to help him. He adds that if he had the money, he'd pay for a generator, but that the backpackers' is barely breaking even – and he isn't yet in a position where he can exert enough influence with the board to get the generators installed at Lassiter's. In the future, he wants to pay Shane to do this, but can't right now.
DIPI: I believe you (…) When it comes to my family, I can lose my temper. And I can also be a little bit stubborn.
She suggests they all get back to the cricket match, and Dipi and Mishti hug.
Piper is filming Paige for the vlog about Tyler.
PAIGE: Tyler is the most loyal friend. He risked his life to save mine when I was pregnant. And if he hadn't put himself in danger that day, I don't think my baby would have survived. And for that, I owe him everything.
With her vox pops filmed, Piper now just needs to put them together. Paige suggests they should go and rejoin the others at the barbecue, and goes to get ready. Piper then films her own heartfelt, tearful segment.
PIPER: What can I say about a man that's given me so much? Tyler is real. He's probably the most genuine person I think I've ever met. He's empathetic and brave, loyal and honest. He's fun and he's silly, but he's also so smart. And he's passionate, but tender. Tyler is endlessly thoughtful, and surprisingly sensitive. He cares so deeply about people. I'm constantly amazed and touched by how he thinks, and how he lives his life with such integrity. And by how he loves with everything that he has. Tyler's the love of my life.
The cricket match has resumed, and Mishti tells Leo that he handled Dipi really well.
LEO: Before or after I shoved her in the pool?
Leo admits, though, that he's struggling to deal with Mishti's family dramas on top of his own. Mishti replies that at least hers come with perks, and they kiss.
Piper emerges, asking to borrow Toadie for a second. She's published her vlog, and positive comments are already coming in – Toadie seems impressed. Piper is super- excited and wonders if the media will pick up on the piece. Toadie tells her not to get her hopes up, but she already has.
Steph and Jack are discussing Amy being Gabe's godmother – Steph thinks it's the perfect choice. Paige comes in, and seems pleased that Amy said yes. Steph heads back to the retreat, saying it's busy there today. Jack asks when Paige is going to ask Mark to be the godfather.
JACK: I'm okay with it, if that's what you're worried about. It's a logical choice – he'd be great, you know. He's good with Gabe…
PAIGE: I know. But I'm not gonna ask Mark.
JACK: Right! Who are you going to ask?
We cut to Paige and Jack asking Terese to be a godmother to Gabe. (Apparently it doesn't seem to matter that there will be two!) Terese gratefully accepts the task and becomes tearful with emotion. But the heartwarming moment is interrupted by Piper, who's predictably having a vlog crisis.
PIPER: Someone sent the video of my rant about Tyler going off at T- Bone to the paper. Someone's obviously seen my Pipe Up about Tyler, and then sent that in to sabotage it!
JACK: Who would do that?
PIPER: I dunno! Trolls – it doesn't matter!
Paige looks at the Star article online, which she describes as ‘straight- up vicious'.
TERESE: ‘Girlfriend confirms accused murderer's violent streak…'
Piper adds that there are already loads of horrible comments about Tyler on the article, and is very worried.
Shane tells Dipi and Elly that he's thinking of doing a business course at TAFE, to help him market his inventions. Unfortunately, he can't do the course he has his eye on, because he never finished high school.
Elly tells Shane that he should consider going back to school to take a few classes now, so he could graduate with his Year 12 certificate. Yashvi, who is lying on the sofa, looks immediately horrified by this prospect!
YASHVI: No, he can't! I'm not having my dad at my school, in my classes!
But Elly explains that he would do adult classes in the evening or weekends, not taking the same lessons as Yashvi. Yashvi and Dipi say that Shane should go for it.
SHANE: Right. That settles it, then – I'm going back to school!
Toadie has joined Paige, Piper and Terese to discuss the video being sent to the paper – Piper has no idea who's responsible, and it could be anyone after she was doxxed last year. Piper apologises to Toadie for putting the case in jeopardy, but he says it's done now and they just need to deal with it. Toadie says that the good news is that because the video was stolen, it's inadmissible in court.
TOADIE: The tricky thing is the jury. Although they are screened, and they're told not to look at newspapers and websites –
PAIGE: There's no guarantee that they won't.
PIPER: I made the video in the heat of the moment! Everyone says stuff they don't mean sometimes.
TOADIE: Unfortunately, people believe what they see. So, seeing Tyler's own girlfriend calling him out on his violent behaviour – it's not a good look. This has probably made Tyler's case a lot worse.
