- Dipi gives Angie a wake- up call, saying she wasn't even going to be invited to Sonya's vow renewal
- Angie tells Sonya she wants to make amends, and to support her relationship with Toadie
- Paige admits Mark has been suspended; Jack suggests she should keep her distance for a while
- Mark assures Jack and Paige that he won't let the police investigation affect Paige and Gabe
- Piper reminds Tyler that Hamish was conscious when he left him, and that the cops will find Louise
- A fisherman at the marina tells Piper and Paige he saw Louise there during the fireworks gala
- Piper, Paige and Mark realise that this means Tyler was probably responsible for Hamish's death
Mark, Piper and Paige (who is holding Gabe) discuss what they've learned about Louise having reached the marina before Hamish's time of death. But Mark insists there's still no proof Tyler is responsible for killing Hamish.
PIPER: Who else could it be?!
MARK: I don't know. But until I do, I think we need to keep this to ourselves.
PAIGE: What if the fisherman reports it?
MARK: He might not. Witnesses don't always come forward. If Det. Graves finds out about this, he's gonna come after Tyler with everything he's got.
PIPER: Yeah, well Tyler's gonna turn himself in as soon as he finds out anyway.
MARK: Well, maybe we don't tell him either.
PIPER: But Mark, he has to be prepared! I'll wait here for when he gets home.
But Mark tells Piper that he'd rather tell Tyler alone, and pleads with her to let him. At that moment, Sonya turns up to see Mark, and Piper and Paige make a swift exit with Gabe. Sonya invites Mark to the Rebecchis' Christmas party tomorrow, explaining that it's also a surprise vow renewal for her and Toadie, and that she'd really like Mark to be there, and to take a photo of the big reveal.
MARK: Yeah, I just don't know if I'm –
SONYA: Mark, I really want you to be involved. I just think it would be a perfect symbol of us just putting the past behind us, you know?
MARK: Yeah. Yeah, of course.
Sonya also asks if she and Toadie could borrow the Brennans' boat for a night. Mark says he'll get the keys for her.
It's Christmas morning, and Nell is up and about, shaking her presents to work out what they are!
We see a bauble- adorned Ramsay Street sign, then we drift high above the cul- de- sac as a Christmas song plays.
At breakfast, Steph and Sonya are discussing the vow renewal ceremony – Sonya hopes nothing will go wrong. Toadie comes in and wonders what they're talking about, but they manage to brush it off. Angie and Shane arrive to wish them all a merry Christmas, but then Nell almost puts her foot in it by asking Toadie if she can wear her dress – presumably one Sonya's bought her for the ceremony.
Everyone looks worried, but Sonya again manages to avert disaster by sending Nell to play in her room with Angie, before she can say any more. Steph leaves, saying she'll see them later. Shane tries to get Toadie out of the house, inviting him to come and Skype Big Kev with Shane's family. Toadie then sees a text on Sonya's phone from Callum, wishing her luck for today!
TOADIE: Good luck for what?
SHANE and SONYA: … The party!
Nell comes back in, and mentions the dress for a second time! Now Toadie's really suspicious – but Shane manages to drag him out of the house before anyone else lets anything slip.
Tyler is cleaning the pool. Mark tells him that Aaron's Not In This Episode™ but will be back later tonight. In the meantime, Mark wants to talk to Tyler, as they didn't have a chance last night when Tyler came in.
TYLER: What did you want to talk about? Anything but the investigation. That stuff can wait till tomorrow.
MARK: Yeah. I guess it can.
Losing his bottle, Mark instead mentions about Sonya borrowing the boat. Tyler says that's fine.
Paige and Jack are enjoying their first Christmas with Gabe. She mentions that Gabe was coughing a lot last night, but seems much better today. Piper comes downstairs – she hasn't heard from Tyler today yet, and worries that Mark hasn't told him about Louise's new alibi.
PIPER: I'm trying to stay positive, but Tyler could be up for manslaughter!
At that moment, Tyler arrives, not having heard what Piper just said. It's clear he hasn't received the news from Mark, as he happily wishes everyone a merry Christmas. Piper looks worried.
Sonya, Steph, Angie and Nell welcome a very special guest who's arrived for the vow renewal – it's Toadie's fake daughter Willow! She explains that her dad's family are doing a Christmas barbecue tonight when she gets home, so she doesn't miss out. Sonya introduces Willow to Angie.
WILLOW: I'm sure you've probably heard about my mum?
ANGIE: Yes. Lousy, rotten –
SONYA: Okay, Angie, stop, please.
ANGIE: Well, all I know is that Toadie and Nell think the world of you. And that's worth something in my boo.
Steph gets a text from Dipi, saying Toadie's on his way back over – so Steph rushes Willow and Nell into her room, so that Toadie doesn't see Willow, and Nell's dress. Meanwhile, Angie presents Sonya with ‘something borrowed and something blue' – a bottle which she explains contains a fertility potion!
Angie admits that Dipi told her Sonya and Toadie were trying for a baby. She claims that the potion helped her and Big Kev conceive, as well as helping Dipi to get pregnant with Jay, her and Shane's hitherto unseen son. Angie explains that the couple must drink the potion together, whilst near salt water! Sonya plays along, explaining that she and Toadie are taking the boat, so will try it out then!
Tyler thanks Piper for his birthday present, and gives her one too – it's an IOU for a round- the- world trip for the two of them. He explains he doesn't have the cash to make it a reality yet, but that now he has his job back at the garage, he will. Piper becomes emotional, realising it might never happen, and Tyler soon realises that she's crying.
TYLER: Hey, hey – we can do this, I promise. Once all this is over, we can go wherever we want!
PIPER: … Louise might not have killed Hamish.
Piper explains about the guy at the marina, who says he saw Louise there around the time Hamish died – and says he might give her an alibi.
PIPER: Mark said that witnesses don't always speak up, Ty, so you might still be okay.
TYLER: No, no. No, it's not okay. If Louise didn't kill Hamish, it means I did.
Mark is on the phone to Fay, wishing her a merry Christmas. Tyler comes in, revealing that Piper told him about Louise's potential alibi – and that Piper has promised to support him whatever he decides to do. Mark says the fisherman could be wrong about seeing Louise, and that in any case it comes down to his word, and whether he even comes forward.
TYLER: This isn't about whether I'll get away with it! It's whether I'm responsible!
MARK: I don't believe that you *are* responsible!
TYLER: I'm the only one who could be!
MARK: Well, maybe not. There was a knock at the door that night, that Sheila heard. That could be the person responsible.
TYLER: Mark, come on!
MARK: No, just trust me on this.
TYLER: Enough! We said we would stop making bad decisions! I need to come clean.
MARK: You don't know what happened to Hamish after you left. There's still hope!
Mark explains that Sonya's asked him to help at the Christmas party, and says Tyler and Piper should meet him there.
MARK: It's Christmas. Let's at least have this day together first. Please.
Tyler nods, but looks very worried.
Shane and Toadie are in garish Christmas jackets, setting up for the party with Angie.
SHANE: Look, it's pretty hot – why don't we lose the polyester, eh?
TOADIE: Hey, hey – rack off, Scrooge!
Dipi turns up with more decorations. Toadie asks her if there's any mistletoe in the box, and Dipi panics, thinking he's found out about the vow renewal. She reacts oddly, and Toadie becomes suspicious again – and then even more so when Karl and Susan turn up in formal clothes, with Susan's celebrant papers! Susan pretends they're liveability documents, and Toadie sends them away to their car to get changed into proper costumes!
Karl and Susan head towards the car, Karl whispering that he knew she shouldn't have brought the folder. As Susan is goading him about having won the liveability money, Karl gets a phone call from his daughter Holly in the UK. Susan jokingly calls him a loser as he goes off to answer it. Meanwhile, Dipi tells Susan that Toadie is getting suspicious. Susan says they have to keep up the act for Sonya.
Meanwhile, Jack and Paige are heading across the lake towards the party, with Gabe in his pram. Paige explains that she was going to spend the rest of the day with Mark, but that he and Tyler have a lot on their plate. Jack had guessed as much, seeing how upset Piper was earlier.
JACK: Look, I need you to know, if something does happen, that I'm always here for you and Gabe.
He puts an arm around her shoulder. Paige smiles, but then Gabe starts crying; she notes that he's still not himself today. She decides she's going to take him to the doctor today for a check- up. Jack offers to drive her, but Paige says she'll take one of the cars from the Lassiter's Corporate Fleet™ instead, so that Jack can see the Rebecchis' vow renewal.
Paige adds that she's really worried about Piper's anxiety, and asks Jack to check up on her. He agrees, and they continue on their way. Paige struggles to lift the pram as they move off, noting that Gabe is ‘getting big'!
At the party site, Toadie is trying to call Sonya, wondering why she's been held up. Angie, Dipi and Shane look worried nearby, while Susan reads over her celebrant notes. Karl returns from his phone call, explaining that Holly's mother Izzy has dumped her with Malcolm, Karl and Susan's eldest, and his wife Catherine, for Christmas – and jetted off to the Alps with her new man!
SUSAN: Oh, she's unbelievable!
KARL: Yeah. Hey, I know it sounds mad – but maybe we should go to London. We can get a standby flight.
SUSAN: Yes, it does sound mad, Karl! It's Christmas Day – we have plans! Just ring Izzy; tell her how Holly's feeling. Maybe she'll even do the right thing and go home to her!
Meanwhile, Toadie asks Angie, Dipi and Shane if they know where Sonya could be, explaining that she isn't answering her phone – and that nor is Steph. He decides to go home and check on her, but Angie forbids this outright! Suddenly, Steph emerges in a dress – and Shane tells Toadie again to lose his garish Christmas jacket.
TOADIE: No, no – not until someone tells me what's going on!
Nell then emerges in her dress, followed closely by Willow, also dressed up and with a bunch of flowers. Toadie now knows something is going on.
SUSAN: Shall we start the ceremony?
TOADIE: Ceremony for what?
Sonya herself then emerges with more flowers, in one of her trademark billowing kaftans! Toadie suddenly begins to twig what's happening, as his friends and family gather around to watch.
SONYA: This is what you wanted, isn't it?
TOADIE: The three of us together – that's all I've ever wanted.
They kiss, as Mark takes a photo. He asks Jack, who's turned up nearby, whether he's seen Tyler. Jack hasn't, and Mark looks worried.
Tyler turns up to see Piper.
TYLER: I need you to come with me to the police station. I don't think I can do this by myself. I have to do this.
Piper is upset, but nods in understanding. They leave the house together.
Paige is getting into the fleet car with Gabe, telling her mum on the phone that his temperature still hasn't gone down, so she's going to get him checked out by the doctor, despite it meaning that she'll miss the vow renewal. Paige drives off – but little does she know, someone is watching her from another vehicle across the car park, as revealed to us via CreepyCam™…
Susan invites Sonya and Toadie to exchange their vows. They do so, as we drift across the assembled RSRs and guests – Susan, Willow, Nell, Angie, Shane, Dipi, Steph, Jack, Karl and Mark.
SONYA: On our wedding day, I talked about unconditional love. And I thought I knew what that meant then. But as I recommit to our marriage today, I now know that we have the strength and the love that we need to support our beautiful kids. And to grow, and to change, and to cherish each other with all our hearts. I give myself with everything I have to the man that I love, now and forever.
It's Toadie's turn, and everyone laughs because…
TOADIE: … we all know that I don't have anything prepared! … I know how blessed I am. I know not everyone finds great love like I have. And as I recommit to our marriage, I promise to always put us first. Sonya, you make me happier than I've ever been. And I want to spend the rest of my life doing the same for you.
They kiss, and everyone applauds. Mark glances worriedly around, hoping to see Tyler…
Mark arrives home to find the front door apparently ajar (unless he opened it before we joined him, but it appears otherwise), and nobody in the house. The model of the boat that the boys inherited from Russell lies in pieces on the floor. Mark looks worried.
Erinsborough Police Station
Tyler waits nervously in the police station, with Piper by his side. Detective Graves arrives.
GRAVES: My family's expecting me back to finish carving the turkey. But I figure this has got to be more important.
TYLER: There was a witness who saw Louise McLeod at the marina during the fireworks the night Hamish died.
GRAVES: Interesting. Any reason you needed to tell me this in person?
TYLER: If Louise didn't kill him, it must be… because I did.
TYLER: The truth is, I hit him with that gnome.
GRAVES: So the statement you gave –
TYLER: – wasn't the whole truth. I didn't hang around, and I didn't see him go into the spa. But that must be what happened.
TYLER: I'm the reason he's dead. I killed him.
Graves summons over some constables to take Tyler into custody, as Piper looks sad, and ‘Getting Away with It' kicks in on the musical score once again.
Toadie admits to Sonya that he had no idea about the surprise vow renewal ceremony. Sonya goes over to speak to Jack, with whom Mark has apparently left the boat keys. He passes them to her, and Angie reminds her to use the fertility potion! Meanwhile, Karl tells Susan he's flying to London this afternoon, so Holly's not without both parents at Christmas. Susan's understanding, and they kiss.
Steph comes over to congratulate Sonya.
SONYA: I just want to say thank you so much, for being the best friend anyone could ever ask for.
STEPH: My pleasure. I'm just rapt so see you guys so happy.
Steph kisses her goodbye, and then kisses Jack, promising she'll miss him while she's in Bendigo over the rest of the holidays. All the RSRs circle around for a group hug, while the extras stand and watch, smiling inanely!
Someone else is watching the festivities too, as a yellow taxi pulls up nearby. CreepyCam™ kicks in again as we see a view through the taxi window. Then we see Andrea Somers – or is it Dee Bliss? – watching the RSRs with curiosity!
Erinsborough Police Station
Tyler is having his fingerprints taken when Mark turns up.
MARK: Ty! Hey, you don't have to say anything. Not until we get a lawyer!
GRAVES: Your brother's already explained everything that happened the night Mr Roche died. And a Mr O'Connell from the marina has called us, and he's confirmed the time of contact with Louise McLeod.
MARK: Don't say anything more – I'll get help.
Tyler turns to a tearful Piper.
TYLER: Pipes – I swore I would never leave you again. I'm so sorry.
PIPER: I love you.
The police constables take Tyler away to put him in a holding cell, pending further questioning. Graves tells Mark and Piper that they'll be in touch, and walks away.
PIPER: Tyler wanted this, okay? He wanted to face what he did!
MARK: No, he didn't kill Hamish! I have to find a way to prove it!
A road somewhere
Paige has parked up the Lassiter's fleet car and has put a distinctly grisly Gabe in the pram ready for their trip to the doctor's. She realises she's left her keys in the car, and goes back to retrieve them. We hear Gabe continuing to cry from the pram as Paige searches hurriedly for the keys. The crying stops presently – but by the time Paige has found the keys, the pram is rolling down the road!
Another car is reversing out nearby, and Paige drops her own car keys in panic, before running frantically to catch up with Gabe's pram, shouting to the driver of the other car to stop. She catches the pram just as the car is about to collide with it, and the other driver stops abruptly. Gabe, Paige believes, is safe.
Until she looks in the pram, that is – and sees that Gabe isn't in it.
Horrified, Paige turns around to see the fleet car she was driving disappearing around the corner at high speed, presumably with Gabe inside. Someone's stolen the car – and her baby…
