Sonya is sitting alone, playing with the stress-reliever that Steph bought her. Callum and Toadie come in, having had a good time with the No 32 Rebecchis. Cal says that Sonya was missed, but that everyone understood why she didn't come. Toadie gives Sonya some leftovers and says Dipi is looking after Nell. Sonya doesn't look too pleased, and once Toadie's gone, Cal looks concerned.
Lassiter's Complex
Terese is showing off her ring to Sheila in the courtyard, who is suitably impressed. Gary sheepishly admits it's 'second-hand' but seems to have decided to keep quiet about its true provenance - claiming he arranged a payment plan with a pigeon-racing associate of his! A grateful Terese kisses Gary, thanking him for the ring, but once she's gone, Sheila demands to know where he got it...
SHEILA: And don't give me any bull-dust about some guy from the racing pigeons. It's hot, isn't it?
GARY: No! ... Well, it's lukewarm.
Harold's Café
David and Tom come in, having just been on a date to an art gallery. Tom invites David over for dinner tonight, and David's keen, suggesting they could go to a movie afterwards.
TOM: Or we could have a quiet one. Stay in?
DAVID: ... Yeah... I'd have to check with the hospital first. I might be on call.
Sensing David's uncomfortable with 'staying in', Tom suggests they leave it, and cancels his coffee, saying he'll see David later. David looks annoyed with himself.
No 30
Callum is on the phone to the Computer Game Company for the Giftedtm, who are evidently missing his genius while he's away.
CALLUM: Well, how about you try debugging the algorithm, then run through the program again? ... No, trust me - that will work.
Sonya looks on proudly. After he's finished his call, Sonya suggests Cal could go and see the Kennedys, but he's keen to stick around and talk to Sonya about her and Toadie. He points out that things won't improve between them if they're barely talking.
SONYA: It's hard to know what to say to him.
CALLUM: Yeah, well it can't be that hard. You guys used to finish each other's sentences.
SONYA: Yes, and after everything that's happened, Callum, it's difficult. I mean, we can't just go back to the way things were.
CALLUM: You could try.
Harold's Café
David is talking to Leo about Tom Quill. David says he really likes Tom, but is clearly nervous about TITTNLtm, despite Leo's encouragement. Amy turns up, and asks David if he's seen Aaron since Fri-Gay. Leo explains that David's been busy with Tom - and once Amy finds out about Tom inviting David back, she tells him that if he's not sure, to wait until it feels right.
Lassiter's Complex
Gary is explaining to Sheila that he found the ring in lost property, and that Terese grabbed it before he could return it, assuming it was for her. Terese was so pleased that Gary couldn't bring himself to correct her, he explains. Gary shows Sheila the real, far less glamorous replacement ring he's bought.
SHEILA: If you have to do something dodgy to impress her, it's not a very good start to a marriage.
GARY: What are you saying - we're doomed? When are you gonna accept that me and Terese are good together?
SHEILA: Oh, don't try and turn this back on me. This is about you being honest with yourself about who you really are! If Terese really loves you, she won't care about expensive jewellery. But she will care about you compromising yourself like this.
GARY: How can I take it back?
SHEILA: You got yourself into this, love, and you've got to get yourself out of it.

Callum has come round with Toadie to catch up with Karl. We see Karl moving Susan's bag, in which the multi-vitamin bottle, whose contents Finn switched with Piper's painkillers, is visible. (Susan, Karl explains, is Not In This Episodetm, her recent health scare having left her in need of a good nap.)
Callum turns the spotlight on Toadie, accusing him and Sonya of acting like strangers towards each other. Toadie admits he feels like Sonya hates him again since she came back from the caravan, which is frustrating because he wants to help her with her legal case. Karl says he needs to open the lines of communication, and Callum suggests email.
CALLUM: I work with these tech guys in the US. They're super-smart, but completely socially inept. So when they need to talk with people face-to-face they just freeze up.
TOADIE: Email just feels so formal.
CALLUM: But Dad, it doesn't need to be. Think about it - you can consider exactly what you're gonna say to the other person, without the pressure of them standing right in front of you. Dad, what have you got to lose?
Lassiter's Complex
Callum is chatting to Paul about his new life in Silicon Valley. They shake hands, and Callum leaves, just as Terese shows up. He refers to her as the new Mrs Canning, but she says that's premature.
TERESE: Weddings take time to plan, Paul - you should know that.
PAUL: Oh, ha-ha-ha.
Paul suggests they have a drink to celebrate her engagement, but Terese says another time. She promises to inspect the repairs to his penthouse tomorrow morning, after Paul points out that his settlement with the Quill Group will be completed next week. Paul then notices that Terese is wearing a different ring.
PAUL: Oh, don't tell me you had to upgrade your own engagement ring?
TERESE: This is all Gary, thanks.
PAUL: Huh. Maybe I underestimated him, then.
TERESE: Hmm. Maybe we all did.
Paul looks surprised as she walks away.

Toadie is struggling to write his email to Sonya. Karl says that Susan is in her room writing work emails, and thinks he doesn't know! He says that they're attributing her illness to a possible mix-up with some of his old medication, but adds that he's not entirely satisfied with that explanation. Conversation turns back to Toadie's email - he's struggling with the tone of it.
KARL: I found writing under a pseudonym very freeing.
TOADIE: Yeah, I don't think an erotic novel is what I'm trying to go for here, Karl.
Karl tells Toadie to picture Sonya, and think of all the things he loves about her - and to keep it light.

Terese is trying to undress Gary in the kitchen, evidently enamoured by the comments the new ring has attracted!
TERESE: You've made me so happy - now, I'm gonna make you happy!
But Gary stops her before she goes any further.
TERESE: What, you're not in the mood?
GARY: You might not be too, when I tell you what I've got to say.
He sits Terese down and explains how he found the ring in the hotel, and she spotted it before he could give her the one he'd bought; he didn't have the heart to tell her when she liked it so much. Terese disappointedly hands the ring back. She then excitedly waits for Gary to give her the real, more modest, ring. She's clearly disappointed.
TERESE: It doesn't matter what it looks like. It came from you. Can you put it on?
Gary slides the ring onto her finger.
TERESE: I love it!
They hug, but she still looks a bit disappointed.
The Waterhole
Jack is telling David about his upcoming meeting with Bishop Green, to formalise his departure from the church. David says that's great - if that's what Jack wants.
DAVID: I've only ever known you as Father Jack! It'll take an adjustment.
JACK: Yeah, it definitely will. But I can't let fear stop me from doing something that I truly want.
DAVID: You think?
JACK: Come on, you of all people must agree with this. Coming out was the best thing you've ever done for yourself, right?
DAVID: True! Although some of the steps that come after are giving me grief... There's something that I'm about to do, that I've thought about for a long time. But now that I'm here - well, I don't know - I want to do it, but it's scary.
JACK: So, we're talking about s-
DAVID: Yeah.
JACK: Right. Yep.
DAVID: It's not exactly my first time. There was a girl I was with at uni, but it was a disaster, and I haven't been with anyone since.
JACK: Well, look - I think more people are in your shoes than you realise.
Tom Quill comes in, and David studiously hides behind the menu.
JACK: Look, if you're hiding from him, then you're probably not ready yet.

Paul walks in unannounced, looking for Amy and Jimmy - but instead finds Terese emerging from the bedroom in a nightgown!
TERESE (to Gary, offscreen): Well, if we're talking chocolate and whipped cream, then you need to put your apron on, Chef Canning!
Terese gasps in horror when she sees Paul and wraps her nightie around her tightly. Paul awkwardly explains he was taking Amy and Jimmy for dinner, but he then gets a text from Amy informing him that they've been held up at chess club. Paul notices Terese's latest engagement ring, and she claims she thought the other one was too flashy so asked Gary for something more discreet.
PAUL: Well, discreet certainly describes it. What happened to the other one - did it get repossessed?
TERESE: I happen to like this ring.
PAUL: Ah (!)
TERESE: I don't need expensive jewellery to make me happy, Paul.
PAUL: Well, that's just as well. Don't really want to have high expectations, do you?
Paul walks out smugly, while Terese eyes her ring with dissatisfaction.
The Waterhole
David is still with Jack, and decides to take the plunge by going over and talking to Tom.
DAVID: So, it turns out I'm free tonight.
TOM: Great.
DAVID: Yeah.
TOM: Okay. Well, do you want to grab some dinner? Maybe get a drink.
DAVID: No, I'm okay. Let's just go.
TOM: There's no rush. I don't want you to feel under any pressure.
DAVID: I don't. Unless you've changed your mind.
TOM: No. I want to be with you - it's just, I'm okay if you want to think about it some more.
DAVID: I don't - believe me. All I've ever done is think about it. I've analysed it so closely, I could write a detailed report. I mean, it's just - all I need is -
But Tom interrupts with a kiss on the lips! Jack smiles at his perch in the corner.
TOM: Has anyone ever told you you talk way too much?
David smiles, and they leave together.

Gary comes in, having taken Terese home. He admits to Sheila that he's worried he's going to spend his whole married life disappointing Terese.
GARY: She's a corporate high-flyer, and I'm a cleaner.
SHEILA: Well, you're not always gonna be a cleaner, love. Maybe it's time you worked out what you really want in life?
GARY: I want to be the man who makes Terese happy.
SHEILA: Well, you can't make someone else happy if you're not happy yourself. So what do you want to do with your life? And please don't say pigeon-racing.
GARY: There is one other thing I enjoy. When I cook, I'm really in the zone. I could do it all day.
SHEILA: Great! Get someone to pay you to do that. Chef Canning has a real ring to it!

Callum is with Steph - he's looking at Sonya's laptop, anxiously awaiting the email he advised Toadie to send to her.
CALLUM: Steph, if things don't work out, you'll look after Mum, yeah?
STEPH: Goes without saying, mate.
CALLUM: You know, when things started going pear-shaped here, all I wanted to do was get on a plane and come home.
STEPH: Yeah? What stopped you?
CALLUM: You. I knew that I could trust you to support Mum and Dad if they needed you.
STEPH: Oh, yeah. Yeah. They've helped me a lot. I owe them.
CALLUM: They owe you too. We all do. You know, without you, I'd have never met Dad. He'd have never met Mum. And Nell wouldn't even exist!
STEPH: Oh, mate, stop! You're giving me a big head!
She hugs him.
CALLUM: Steph, I'm being serious. You're a really important part of our family. You know, if you weren't here, I don't think I could get back on that plane to the US.
Sonya comes in, and asks if they want to go for a walk with her. Her computer bleeps.
CALLUM: Ooh! You've got mail!
He encourages Sonya to read the email.
SONYA: It's from Jarrod. I don't know why he doesn't just pick up the phone or come over (...) 'Dear Son - Nell said to say goodnight. She blew you a kiss; it's on its way to you right now, floating past Clancy sleeping on the end of her bed. Now it's heading for the kitchen. Hang on - I have to open the door. Which reminds me - when is a door not a door?'
Callum and Steph laugh at Toadie's lame joke.
SONYA (still reading): 'It's off again - flying across the back yard, and over the fence. You'd better go let it in. Kind regards, your next door neighbour. PS - please advise of safe delivery of kiss.'
She stares at the laptop, lost for words.
SONYA: What am I supposed to do with that?
STEPH: I suppose you could ignore it.
CALLUM: Or maybe, why don't you try to reply? That's just an idea.
Lassiter's Hotel
The next day, David is walking through the courtyard looking very pleased with himself. He bumps into Leo, who didn't hear him come home last night.
DAVID: I was with Tom.
LEO: Ah! And here I was, beating myself up thinking I gave you the wrong advice!
DAVID: You had no reason to feel guilty. I worked it out for myself.
LEO: So you guys are all good?
DAVID: Yep!
Leo asks if David wants to grab coffee, but he's already arranged to meet Tom for breakfast. He heads upstairs to get changed. Leo looks pleased.
The Waterhole
Mishti is whingeing about the state of the Dingoes' Gym to Aaron, apparently after a training session. Aaron laments the fall from grace of Dingoes', which 'used to be so good' until the new management took over. David comes in, and Mishti senses Aaron's discomfort, asking if things are still weird between them. Aaron says not - he's getting over it.
MISHTI: Yeah. I can see you're completely cured (!)
But Aaron is horrified when Tom comes in, and kisses David before joining him at a table!
MISHTI: Are you okay?
AARON: Yeah, I'm okay. Okay with the fact that my ex is now sleeping with the guy that I'm crazy about (!)
MISHTI: Right, sorry - stupid question.
AARON: Successful, smart businessman for a successful, smart doctor.
MISHTI: Come on, don't torture yourself.
AARON: How can I not?
Mishti drags Aaron out of the door to spare him any further torment.

Karl says they'll have to talk in person eventually, but agrees it's positive. Nell is shaking the jar of 'multi-vitamins', meanwhile, and Toadie tells her to leave them alone.
However, while Karl and Toadie continue to talk, Nell mischievously picks up the jar of pills, and puts it in her rucksack...
