- Dee and Toadie getting married.
- Toadie driving the car off the road into the sea and being unable to find Dee.
- Stonie/Toadie talking about the photo of the woman that looks like Dee.
- Sonya wanting to know why Toadie is paying someone to investigate Dee.
- Toadie confirming he's not going to get the PI to investigate the photo.
- Toadie admitting that lately he's been smelling the perfume Dee wore in places where it shouldn't be.
- Toadie getting a surprise on opening his front door - Dee!!!
Toadie is absolutely stuck for words and it takes Sonya coming to the door for anything to be said and its Dee who is first to talk.
DEE: Sonya, hi. Its Sonya, isn't it?
SONYA: (confused) I'm... I'm not sure I know who you are.
DEE: (to Toadie) You know who I am, don't you Toad?
TOADIE: I know who you look like.
DEE: It's me. (more forceful) It's me.
TOADIE: (somewhat teary) Dee?
And it would appear that Toadie isn't the only one in shock, Karl is too as he's been unable to drive to work and tells Susan what he saw - someone looking like Dee heading to #30.
KARL: It was uncanny, it was like it was her double.
Susan thinks he's just looking for things based on Stonie's photo and Karl agrees with her but not before saying:
KARL: It's just, man, it was like seeing a ghost.
Dee enters the house and begins commenting about the changes #30 has underdone since she lived there, but Toadie is still struggling to get his head around things and says that the car went over the cliff and she didn't come up from being under the water.
TOADIE: No, you didn't. You didn't
DEE: If you give me a chance to explain everything...it will make sense.
Susan enters the house and heads towards the shelves where she pulls out a photo album.
Dee begins her explanation:
DEE: I escaped the car as it was sinking. I heard you calling my name, you were screaming for me, begging me to answer. I called for you but the waves just kept pushing me down.
Toadie points out that there was a huge police search, that they combed the area. Dee agrees with that, she saw the rescue helicopters and was screaming to them to rescue her. "Why didn't they find you then?" Toadie asks and Dee suggests perhaps they couldn't spot her because she kept being dragged down by her wedding dress.
DEE: And the weather turned... I was so cold Toadie. It got dark. I thought I was going to die.
She then adds that the tide must have changed and pushed her back in as that was the last thing she remembered because she "smashed her head against the rocks and everything went black."
DEE: I woke up lying on the beach cold, exhausted. I saw a light and I... I tried to walk towards it, I tried to crawl towards it, but I just kept collapsing.
Toadie has really struggled listening to what Dee has said (and Sonya has literally stood listening like a stunned mullet) and eventually reacts.
TOADIE: No. No, no, no, this is not possible. No.
Susan looks through the pictures of Dee/Toadie's wedding, remember the very happy occasion that it was.
Sonya finally finds her voice and asks Dee if someone found her and she replies yes, someone called Emily. Toad wants to know about this Emily and is told she is the person who saved her but he demands to know why she didn't alert someone. Dee explains that because she needed medical treatment, Emily was too scared to call for help so instead looked after her herself and at some point left (taking Dee too) to Western Australia as she was hiding from an abusive ex- husband.
Toadie is rather confused and angry that Emily must have realised she was a missing person and Dee tries to explain that Emily was trying to protect her from him!
TOADIE: Are you... Are you telling me that she thought that I... that I crashed the car on purpose to hurt you?
DEE: I told her you were driving. I was confused. I'm sorry.
SONYA: Jarrod wouldn't do anything to hurt another living soul, especially his wife.
DEE: I know that, I know that now.
Toadie immediately picks up on the use of "now" and Dee explains that when she smashed her head on the rocks, she suffered a brain injury.
DEE: How could I convince her of the truth about my life when I couldn't even remember it myself?
Dee confirms to Sonya's question that she suffered from memory loss, the first few months being the worst as she suffered blackouts and mood swings. She then heads to her bag for photographic proof of those injuries that Emily took as a 'just in case' before handing them over to Toadie to look through.
DEE: I just never thought I'd have to prove myself to you.
The picture we see shows a woman with a bruised forehead, a black eye and a bloodied eyeball. Toadie looks shocked and upset at what he's seen.
We then cut back to #28 and Susan has now reached the page where the service card for Dee's memorial is and pulls it.
The trio are now sitting down and Toadie begins telling Dee about the photo Stonie had and the possibility that it might be her but this photo is news to her. He explains the photo of her was taken a few weeks ago in Colac and she explains that she was going to visit at Christmas but admits to losing her nerve, so going to his home town was "kind of like being close to you without actually coming forward."
They then hear someone coming into the house - its Steph, so Sonya rushes to the door to prevent her from entering the house (because Toadie wants privacy to speak to Dee) and both head outside to pick Nell up to take her to Susan's.
Dee gets teary because she recognised Steph's voice, promoting an also teary Toadie to ask:
TOADIE: Is it really you?
Dee can't talk and simply nods her head before she eventually composes herself to tell Toadie to ask his questions and she will tell him anything.
"Is everything okay?" Susan asks Sonya after sending Nell to get her colouring stuff since she is babysitting. "Yes," Sonya replies and puts it down to ultrasound nerves but when Susan mentions to her what Karl saw, Sonya says "long story" and will catch up about it later and can't get out of the house quick enough after saying a quick bye to Nell.
Returning to the livingroom with cuppas, Toadie asks if her memory started coming back years ago, why she didn't come find him then.
DEE: I did find you. I found you with Sindi Watts. It was another wedding that day funny enough.
TOADIE: Did you come to Steph and Max's wedding?
DEE: (nodding) I wanted to talk to you, I wanted to tell you that I was alive. But you and Sindi looked so happy together, I didn't have the heart to ruin that.
TOADIE: I deserved to know!
DEE: Of course you did. I wasn't coping, the brain injury it made me depressed, it made me anxious. I was having mood swings, I mean anything could trigger them. I'd lash out. I didn't know who I was any more. As much as I wanted to see you, I didn't feel worthy. You'd moved on, that's why I decided to do the same. I settled into a quiet life with Emily in WA.
Toadie asks the question everyone is probably wanting to know the answer to!
TOADIE: Why have you decided to come forward now?
DEE: I needed to see you Toadie, I still... I want to make amends.
Sonya is undergoing an ultrasound and the sonographer declares everything is as it should be for 11 weeks gestation but informs them it's too early to determine the sex. Mark is happy stunned at seeing bubs on the monitor and Steph says its "amazing."
MARK: (to Steph) Happy?
The one person who doesn't look too happy though is Sonya as she lies watching proceedings.
"What are you thinking?" Dee asks as Toadie finishes drying their mugs. He brings up her perfume and Dee confirms that it's still the same one, his favourite. Toad admits to her that he's been imagining smelling it and she puts it down to him thinking about her, which he confirms he has done ever since he saw the photo Stonie gave him.
Dee then goes into the back pocket of her jeans and hands him a ring.
TOADIE: That's your wedding ring.
DEE: I've treasured it for years, it was my only link to you.
Toadie changes subject totally and asks if she knows about her parents. Dee confirms she does know they died in a car accident because at some point she paid a visit home to Tasmania after looking for him and discovered they'd done.
DEE: Mum and dad spent the last year of their life grieving for me. That's a pretty big regret.
Toadie asks about her sister Cecile and she explains she's tried to track her down but it appeared she'd disappeared.
TOADIE: I'm so sorry.
DEE: It was tough, I'd lost everyone I loved. I fell into a pretty deep depression, it's really taken me until now to face it you know, to face the past.
Toadie hands her back the wedding ring before asking what everyone would like to know the answer to.
TOADIE: What are you after Dee?
DEE: Closure... for both of us. For me, I need to connect with who I was, who I am, it's the only way I'm going to fill in the gaps. Will you help me... please?
Steph and Mark re- enter the room to find an upset Sonya and ask if it's to do with the ultrasound. Eventually she pulls herself together to tell them.
SONYA: You know how Stonie showed Jarrod that picture of the woman that looked like Dee?
MARK: I thought you all agreed it was some lookalike?
SONYA: We did and now she's turned up on our doorstep.
STEPH: (stunned) What?!
SONYA: Look, I don't know her okay, I never knew Dee and I don't, I don't know for certain but she just told us this story. It's just...this bizarre and unbelievable story and then you turned up and I didn't get to hear the rest of it.
STEPH: Okay, okay slow down, slow down. So who is this woman?
SONYA: Well she's claiming... She's claiming to be Dee, that... That she's not dead at all.
Karl is on the phone to someone talking about Sonya when the trio happen to leaving the hospital. He stops them (and hangs up on the caller) to ask Sonya if it's true about who he saw going into her house? Sonya confirms the woman says she is Dee and Steph asks if he saw her too. "Only from a distance," Karl replies but admits that he thought it was Dee. Mark thinks the woman is just trying it on, she will have dug up the information from somewhere.
MARK: This could be some kind of hoax.
SONYA: Why would someone do something like that?
MARK: I don't know.
SONYA: And what could she possibly want with Jarrod?
STEPH: No, no, you know what? Dee was one of my best friends I would recognise her anywhere, if this is some sort of sick joke I'm going to shut her down.
Dee and Toadie are making small talk about Karl playing his guitar before he adds in that it might take folk "a while to get their head around this."
TOADIE: But they cared for you so they'll be glad that you're home.
DEE: And what about you?
Toadie doesn't reply but instead surprises Dee when he gets out of his seat and hugs her. Sitting back down, he tells her that he will need time.
TOADIE: And ah, this is going to be huge for Sonya.
DEE: But you understand why I couldn't...
TOADIE: Why you didn't come forward sooner?
(Dee nods her head)
TOADIE: I really wish that you had because you would have saved me a whole lot of heartache. But ah, you know, you were having issues so I can understand that.
Their conversation is interrupted when Sonya, Steph and Mark enter the house and before Sonya can finish what she is about to say, Dee calls out "Steph" as both stand looking at each other.
DEE: I know what you're thinking, that I'm, that this is a trick or something.
STEPH: Dee it's... Is it, is it... it's you! It's you! It's you!
Deciding that it is Dee, Steph closes the gap and tearfully hugs her friend.
Susan meets Karl at the door, so not to talk in front of Nell about what is going on. She admits that she's wanted to head to #30 but Karl thinks that they need space. Both are struggling to accept that the woman is Dee given all that happened.
KARL: I know, I know it's very hard to believe it's her.
SUSAN: But do you think it's possible?
KARL: Well, my gut says no but then I think, what about Harold you know?
KARL: Just because something is improbable, doesn't make it impossible.
SUSAN: What about her delay in coming forward?
KARL: It's a valid question, it's hard to answer.
SUSAN: I need to see her myself, then I'll know.
Toadie, Steph and Dee sit reminiscing about the engraving in the ring and what it should have contained ("there's no escape now.")
As they make the tea in the kitchen, Sonya tells Mark that Steph seems very convinced and he can't but agree. "And you?" he asks.
SONYA: I don't know but the photo of her head injuries, and the wedding ring, it's all...
"I've been thinking about today for such a long time, I just had to work up the courage," Dee admits as Mark carries through the cuppas and goes into police mode by wanting to have a quiet chat. Steph explains to her, that Mark is a cop.
TOADIE: What do you need to know?
MARK: Well, have you reported yourself to police?
DEE: It's on my list, I just wanted to see Toadie first.
Mark volunteers to walk her to the police station and earns a scowl from Steph for suggesting such a thing.
MARK: Dione Bliss was missing, is missing, presumed dead. Yeah in cases like this, the police will conduct an investigation on behalf of the coroner.
TOADIE: I'm sure Dee is more than happy to assist.
DEE: Sure, that's who I am.
Mark also mentions that they will need to talk to Emily too and almost hesitantly, Dee agrees to give him her number but not before adding that she is a really good person, a person who helped her a lot.
Steph asks Dee where she is staying and she'd not planned anything, so Steph says that she can stay at the motel. Dee heads outside to get some fresh air and as she does that, tears spring to her eyes.
Steph (and Mark) have got Dee into a room and as they go to leave, she tells Mark that she knows he is suspicious but if he'd met Dee he'd have no doubt that this person is her.
MARK: Steph, this is a police matter, if she's lying it needs to be proven and if she's telling the truth, it means she's been living a fraudulent existence for over a decade.
STEPH: Right, so you get to play judge and jury?
MARK: No, I'm worried about Sonya. Her world has been turned upside down - she's stressed, it could affect the baby.
STEPH: Mark, not everything is about the baby.
MARK: Well, either way, I'll be following up on the investigation.
STEPH: Right yeah, well you're already convinced that this is some kind of con, you're hardly likely to be impartial.
MARK: It's my job.
STEPH: Yes, well Mark, serious, let your colleagues deal with it.
Dee's room, Robinsons motel/Number 30
Dee sits down at the table and begins to remove her jewellery.
As they lie in bed, Sonya asks Toadie if everything about Dee was the same.
TOADIE: Exactly, her hair, her face, her eyes. You not having doubts about her story?
SONYA: It's just... it's... it's strange and it's...sad. You know after all these years it's...
While Toadie replied to his wife, we cut back to see a close up of Dee looking into a mirror.
Toadie changes the conversation by getting around to asking where she went to today but Sonya doesn't answer, instead says she is tired and asks they instead talk about it in the morning. Toadie nods his head before tenderly putting his hand on his wife's face.
TOADIE: I love you.
SONYA: I love you too.
They then kiss each other good night before settling down to sleep.
We then cut back to Dee still staring at herself in the mirror before she begins to cry.
- Toadie telling Sonya that Dee just wants closure.
- Ellen confirming to Mark that the inquest concluded Dee was dead.
- Steph overjoyed that Dee is back.
- Mark determined to investigate Dee... for Sonya's sake.
- Toadie inviting the Kennedys to see Dee.
- The Kennedys hesitantly walking into Harold's and seeing Dee.
