Cue titles.
The Waterhole
Susan approaches Elly, who's stressing out about her rant at Regan. Susan points out that Elly was being very provocative, and suggests that maybe Ned went after Regan because she was so upset by Elly's comments. Elly says that she wishes she could just walk away from Ned, but can't because she likes him so much. Susan advises that Elly speaks to someone who Ned confides in to find out what's going on in his mind.
No. 26
Gary and Sheila return home from shopping, and Sheila is brimming with joy that Gary and Kyle have made up. Gary suggests that they fetch Xanthe to help unpack the shopping but Sheila says she's glad of the rest from her nagging to go to the Gold Coast.
SHEILA: Asking in Japanese does nothing for me unless it comes with subtitles!
Kyle enters from the garden and tells Sheila that his conversation with Amy didn't go well. Sheila tries to suggest that Kyle could patch things up with Amy if his marriage to Georgia is on the rocks, but Kyle shoots down the suggestion. He says that he didn't come back for Amy, and notes that all of her and Jimmy's things have gone, assuming that they must have moved out.
Robinson's Motel
Amy and Jimmy arrive with their suitcases and wait for a room to be prepared for them. Jimmy asks if they had to move out of No. 26 because Kyle is back, but Amy insists that it was always just a temporary arrangement. Amy apologises for forgetting to pack Jimmy's chess set, and he says that he'll hang out by the pool instead. The moment Jimmy leaves, Amy breaks down into tears.
No. 30
Mark is venting about how unreasonable Max has been arranging a trip overseas without consulting Steph. Sonya tells Mark to pipe down as getting upset isn't helping to solve anything. Toadie suggests that Steph's options are to participate in mediation in order to change the childcare arrangements or otherwise apply for a court order. Mark reassures Steph that they'll get Charlie back, but Steph silently nods whilst gazing into the distance.
No. 26
Kyle returns Jimmy's chess set, and also gives him a chemistry set that he's bought him from the Duty-Free. Jimmy places the present on the dining table and says that he's not into that sort of thing anymore. Kyle asks what the latest craze is, and jokingly asks if he's got Amy riding a hoverboard.
JIMMY: Look, leave Mum alone! You've done enough. How can you act so normal, like everything's okay? We have to go because you're here. You're the one that left in the first place.
KYLE: Y'know mate, it wasn't easy for me to leave you. Or your Mum. I miss you guys a lot.
JIMMY: Not as much as you miss Georgia.
KYLE: I know how I felt when my Dad walked out on me mate, and it kills me that you think I did the same thing to you.
JIMMY: Look, don't worry about me and Mum. We'll be fine. And say bye to Sheila and Gary for me, and Xanthe. And this is for Bossy, not you, alright?
KYLE: Understood.
Jimmy puts down his chess set and gives Kyle a tight hug.
JIMMY: Tell her how much I miss her.
KYLE: I will.
Anyone else got some dust in their eye? Amy turns up and tells Jimmy that it's time to leave. Sheila lurks from the corridor and grimaces at the tragic scene.
Harold's
Steph and Toadie are discussing a possible application to change Charlie's parenting order. Toadie explains that usually, a court will only look at an application if the wishes of the child have changed, or one of the parents is in a new relationship. Toadie says he's spoken to Philippa and has managed to agree to a Skype call later that afternoon.
STEPH: It just feels like a huge step backwards.
TOADIE: Yeah, I know it's hard. But they're the ones holding all the cards at the moment.
Steph announces defiantly that she doesn't want to waste her time trying to change the parenting order, and instead she's going to fight for shared custody. Toadie warns her about how difficult it will be, but Steph says things will be different this time. Over at the counter, Ned approaches Lauren, who demands that Ned explains what's been going on. Ned recounts the tale of his ex-girlfriend Regan turning up, and lets slip that she's still married and that her husband doesn't know.
NED: If he finds out... he's dangerous Lauren. He's really dangerous.
Later, in the kitchen, Lauren is preparing sandwiches and Ned continues to tell his story. He met Regan on the coast with some friends and insists that he didn't know that she was married. Lauren questions whether the relationship is over and Ned explains that it is from his end, although Regan still wants to be with him. Ned warns again that her husband is a dangerous man, and that Regan can be very unpredictable. Lauren promises not to say anything to anyone but urges Ned to tell Elly about it.
No. 30
Steph and Mark successfully Skype with Charlie, who apologises that they can't come to Fiji anymore. They invite Charlie down to Erinsborough for a longer visit in the future. Charlie seems enthusiastic, but suddenly look saddened as he remembers that Max and Philippa don't want him visiting again. Steph and Mark insist that it's still up for discussion, and Charlie suggests that they wait to speak to Max after the trip to New Zealand, as he may have calmed down. Steph reassures Charlie that everything will be okay, but Charlie is called away and has to leave the video call abruptly. Steph sits silently for a moment and finally, declares to Mark that she won't fight Max for custody as she can't put Charlie through the pain of it all again.
Lassiter's Complex
Jimmy apologises to Amy for lying about going to the pool and visiting Kyle instead but insists that Amy doesn't need to protect him anymore. The Cannings arrive, and Sheila demands to know why Amy and Jimmy moved out without telling them first. Amy apologises and says it's easier for everyone, especially her as she can move on with her life.
SHEILA: That is a good point, and I completely understand why you're saying that, but you've got it all wrong! We're not just Kyle's family, we're your family as well!
JIMMY: That's not true.
SHEILA: Well, just because we're not blood-related, is not to say that we're not family. I love you as if you were my own daughter. The only difference is, you don't cause me as much grief as she does!
Xanthe and Gary chime in with their praise for Amy and how much they enjoy living with her. Sheila formally invites them both back to No. 26 and Amy accepts, engaging in a big Canning-Williams family hug!
Harold's
Elly is on the warpath and storms in, asking Lauren if she knows what's happening with Ned. Lauren tells Elly to either ask Ned herself or just let it go; Ned will tell her when he's ready.
No. 30
Mark tells Sonya how upset he is that he won't be able to spend more time with Charlie and watch him grow up - in particular, he wanted to watch every Doctor Who episode in chronological order!
SONYA: Oh Mark. You know, kids, they don't always say it, but I know how much he loves you.
Mark says that the issue is bigger than him, as it's unfair on Charlie and Steph to let Philippa and Max win.
MARK: It's not my place, I'm not his Dad. I thought Steph and I were solid on our own, but Charlie, he added this whole extra layer to our relationship. And I get that Steph doesn't want to have kids, I respect that. But it just leaves me with this... this, I don't know. This empty feeling, like something's missing.
SONYA: You want to be a father.
MARK: Yeah. I don't think I realised quite how much.
Both Sonya and Mark are in tears.
No. 26
Sheila's 60th birthday party is in full swing, and everything seems to have been magically smoothed over between Kyle and Amy. Gary and Kyle call everyone in the living room to present Sheila with her birthday present, which is draped under a huge sheet. Gary makes a brief speech, describing Sheila as a 'woman with a modest disposition, with a heart as big as an elephant'. Sheila pulls off the sheet from her present and it's an exercise bike! She doesn't seem very impressed but puts on a smile.
SHEILA: This calls for a toast! To prove the old saying wrong, you can choose your family!
Xanthe and Kyle start bickering as everyone raises their glasses, 'to family'.
Robinson's Motel
Sonya calls in and finds Steph angrily putting things away. Steph immediately breaks down in tears.
SONYA: I'm so sorry about Charlie, Steph.
STEPH: I desperately wanted to fight for him, and I can't do it to him. He needs stability, and this is just going to traumatise him, so I... I need to let it go.
SONYA: Are you sure you can do that, though?
STEPH: Well, Charlie comes first. And seeing him happy and safe, it helps.
SONYA: You've had to make such an impossible decision.
STEPH: And I'm going to have to find a way to live with it.
Steph continues to sniffle and says she hopes that Mark can live with the decision too, as she knows how much he wants a child of his own, and it'll only be a matter of time before it tears them apart.
No. 26 Backyard
Amy approaches Kyle in the garden, and he apologises for upsetting her. Amy stops him and says that she's a completely different person now, with friends and a family.
AMY: I'm my own person.
KYLE: You always were.
AMY: No, I was living under your shadow. But not anymore.
Amy puts forward an invitation of friendship and says that they need to sort out the Dial-A-Kyle business as it was practically given to her for free, and she wants to pay Kyle the full value. She also tells Kyle to make the first move to patch things up with Georgia. Kyle agrees to both things, and they laugh at Amy giving him relationship advice.
No. 32 Backyard
Elly finds Ned sorting out some weights on the patio, and asks if he's avoiding her. She explains that if their relationship is going to work, they can't keep secrets from each other. Elly sits down and opens up to Ned about her miscarriage. She tries to make an excuse for being in a bad head-space after her breakup with Derek, but Ned stops her and says that she doesn't need to apologise. Ned comes clean with the truth about Regan being married and tells Elly that she has to stay silent or else they could both be in danger.
Ramsay Street
The birthday party has moved to the street, where everyone is making their goodbyes to Kyle. He gives Susan, Sonya and Sheila big hugs, and tells Ben to look after Xanthe. As Gary drives Kyle away to the airport, Sheila shouts for Kyle to Skype her from the airport! As the Cannings and Ben head back into No. 26, Sonya asks Susan if she can have a word with her.
SONYA: I just wanted to ask you, privately, about your experience with surrogacy.
Susan looks stunned and is lost for words.
