Jack waits anxiously outside the hospital. Karl comes out to break the bad news; Father Vincent has died.
KARL: I'm sorry – we did everything we could.
JACK: God had different plans.
Karl gives Jack an envelope, which belonged to Father Vincent, and says he's terribly sorry for his loss. Jack opens the envelope, and finds a crucifix pendant inside. He smiles sadly, then looks skyward.
Here be titles.
Madison, Paige, Tyler and Tyler's ex, Courtney Grixti, are having a drink. Things are a little awkward between Courtney and Tyler. Courtney tells Tyler he should be over their break- up by now!
Paige takes a call on her phone; it's Karl, with the news that Father Vincent is dead.
Brad and Lauren are trekking through a forest, looking for a camping spot. They find a suitable location and Lauren suggests they put the tent up, but Brad said they can do it later.
BRAD: Right now, I just want to be with you.
They kiss, and lie down on a mat together. Lauren's phone rings – it's Paige, with the news about Father Vincent. Lauren tells Paige just to be there for Jack. After the call, Lauren tells Brad the bad news.
Paul and Amy are having a coffee. Paul suggests he come round later and play chess with Jimmy. Terese comes by, as if she's looking for someone. Paul asks her who, but Terese curtly tells him she isn't interested in making conversation. After asking how things are going with Ryan Prescott, Paul notices a man in the corner who he seems to recognise.
PAUL: Ah, I see you took my advice. Smart.
Ignoring him, Terese walks over and greets the man – it's private investigator John Wong. (We don't learn whether he's related to Tracey Wong, a PI whose services Terese has used previously.) John passes her the dossier he's compiled on Ryan, and leaves her to peruse its contents. She quickly finds the picture of Amy dressed as a sexy maid, and looks worried.
Paige finds Jack looking sad at DeadKate's Gazebo™, and explains Karl told her what happened. She says she'll understand if he wants to be alone, but Jack quickly tells her he doesn't.
JACK: I'm glad you're here.
PAIGE: I'm glad I'm here too.
They hold hands as Jack fights back tears.
Amy quizzes Paul over his attempts to get under Terese's skin, and notes how displeased he seemed when she realised Terese was involved with Ryan. Paul tries to claim that he doesn't care about that – he just doesn't like Ryan sullying Lassiter's good name.
PAUL: But you know what? She'll discover his true colours soon enough.
Nearby, Madison bumps into Terese, causing her to drop the file that John Wong gave her. During the confusion, Madison sees that Terese has the picture of Amy, and asks where she got it.
TERESE: What, you know about this?
Tom is hanging out with Aaron and having a coffee. Aaron takes Tom's hand.
AARON: I just wanted to say that these past few days, I've had a good time with you.
TOM: Me too.
AARON: You sure? It's just… I hate these conversations. It's just you seem a little out of reach. And that's totally fine. But if you don't want this, you have to tell me.
TOM: What? I do want this. I do. And if I seem a little bit weird, it's just that I've got some family stuff going on.
But before Tom can elaborate, Terese bursts in, with Madison in tow, and starts tearing strips off Tom for employing Ryan in order to keep Amy's past a secret. She tells him how furious the Lassiter's board members will be when they find out a lingerie cleaning service got the hotel contract, and points out that the hotel's reputation is already suffering because of Julie Quill's actions.
Aaron comes to Tom's defence, saying he was just trying to help Amy by placating Ryan. But Terese says it was ‘extremely negligent' nonetheless.
TOM: She's right. I stuffed up big time.
TERESE: And once again, I've got to clean up your mess. Thanks.
Jack and Paige are still hanging out at the gazebo. A tearful Jack talks about how angry and confused he is. Paige empathises, explaining how upset she was when Josh and Doug died.
PAIGE: Father Vincent was there to guide you when you needed him most. And because of that, his legacy will live on forever. In your heart.
JACK: Thank you.
PAIGE: I just want you to be okay. You don't have to thank me for that.
JACK: I really do love you.
PAIGE: I love you too.
Lauren and Brad are still on their picnic mat. Lauren is empathising with Paige's situation, saying she knows what it's like for the person you love to be just out of reach.
LAUREN: It's torture.
BRAD: Well, I know what it feels like too. But I also know that whatever's meant to happen will. And no amount of worrying is gonna change that.
LAUREN: I love you.
BRAD: Yeah, I know!
LAUREN: Oh, you do, do you? Hey, what do you think we'd be doing right now if we hadn't found each other again?
BRAD: Well, that was never an option. Cos we were always gonna end up together eventually.
LAUREN: You really think that?
BRAD: I know it. And I'm just happy that we're young enough to still enjoy it.
LAUREN: Sometimes I don't feel so young.
BRAD: Come on! Our best years are still ahead of us. Soon, we are gonna be kid- free, and we can focus on ourselves for a bit.
He starts kissing her passionately.
LAUREN: Oh! I guess you're wishing we put that tent up now, huh?
But he just drags her down onto the picnic mat instead, as the camera pans tastefully away!
Ryan comes in, having been summoned by Terese.
TERESE: I know about your previous employment. The lingerie cleaning service.
RYAN: I saw a gap in the market, so I filled it. It was just business. Something I thought you'd understand.
TERESE: And what about blackmailing Amy? Did you think I'd understand that too? You're a creep, who preys on poor, vulnerable women. And you used that to get the contract at Lassiter's.
RYAN: That wasn't my idea.
TERESE: Yeah, but you were happy to play along with it. But not anymore. It's over.
Terese hands him a resignation letter to sign, and informs him that he'll be paid half of the contract to allow him to find other work in the meantime.
TERESE: On the condition that you leave Erinsborough and Amy Williams alone. For good.
Ryan hesitates, before signing as requested.
RYAN: So that's it, for me and you?
TERESE: Just go.
Harold's Café / Lassiter's Lake
Tyler comes in and orders a coffee from a distracted Paige. He suggests they go for a drink later, but she explains she's meeting Jack.
PAIGE: I saw him before, and we had this moment, where we just knew that we were meant to be together.
We cut briefly to Jack looking at the pendant at the lake.
PAIGE: Have you ever had that before?
TYLER: Hmm. Yeah, with Pipes. But it's over now.
PAIGE: I know this has been a really hard decision for him. But I think we're finally going to be together.
Cut again to the lake, with a musical interlude in which Jack looks sad. He takes the clerical collar from his pocket and examines it pensively.
Brad and Lauren are now lying underneath a blanket on the picnic mat. Brad tells off Lauren for looking at her phone to check in on Paige, and gives her three seconds to drop it before beginning to tickle her! She gives in and puts the phone down.
Brad tells her that, while it's great she cares about Paige, Lauren needs to stop worrying about her so much. Lauren agrees, and says she's going to start focusing on ‘the fun side of life'.
LAUREN: Starting with getting you back!
She starts tickling Brad, before they melt into another kiss.
Paige is in the kitchen when Jack comes in – in his full priest outfit.
PAIGE: You've chosen the church.
JACK: Earlier today, I asked God for guidance. For him to send me a sign. And now I see he did. When you said that Father Vincent's legacy lives on in me, I realised that you were right. He taught me so that I could continue his good work.
JACK: A huge part of me wishes that it doesn't have to be like this.
PAIGE: But it does. And that's okay.
JACK: I meant what I said. I love you. But as Jesus sacrificed his life for us to live, I need to make this sacrifice.
PAIGE: I know you do. And I love you too. That's why I just want you to be happy and to follow your heart. I think you should go.
A tearful Jack leaves, before Paige becomes tearful himself.
Paul is playing chess with Jimmy, while Amy watches. There's a knock at the door and she goes to answer it; it's Terese and Madison. However, when Terese sees that Paul and Jimmy are there, she says it's not important and they'll come back later.
PAUL: So you know all about Prescott's sleazy history now, eh?
TERESE: Yeah. I do. That's why I've cancelled his contract.
Amy looks uncomfortable, but Paul isn't satisfied – he says that Terese should ‘expose the creep'.
MADISON: What would that achieve?
PAUL: Maddy, why are you protecting this guy?
TERESE: Look, just trust me, Paul. I think it's best that we let sleeping dogs lie with this one.
Again, she promises to talk to Amy later, before leaving. Amy looks worried.
Tom comes in; Aaron's been trying to get hold of him, but he says he had some thinking to do. Tom elaborates on the ‘family stuff' he started telling Aaron about earlier; his sister Shay wants him to move to Dubai.
AARON: What about your job here?
TOM: The one I'm terrible at?
AARON: Hey, that's not true.
But Tom is convinced he's a walking disaster area where Lassiter's is concerned, especially after what Terese said earlier. He's decided Lassiter's is better off without him or the Quill Group – they're selling the hotel. When Aaron objects, Tom says that no- one knows yet, but that he's sure Terese will keep her job. He asks Aaron to keep it a secret for now.
AARON: So when do you leave?
TOM: He's gonna stay with our aunt and finish off school here.
AARON: Cool. So that's it, huh?
TOM: Hey. What we've had – it's meant a lot to me. I mean, I used to be a really selfish person. And okay, I still have my moments. But you taught me that there's more to life than just trying to get ahead.
AARON: Yeah. You've been pretty good to me too.
TOM: I'm really gonna miss you.
AARON: Don't go, then! Just stay. Why can't we just see where this leads?
AARON: Can't blame a guy for trying.
They kiss, and Tom leaves. Aaron looks sad.
Courtney is trying to cheer up a distracted Paige with wine, to no avail.
COURTNEY (pouring): Say when.
COURTNEY: Erm, okay. When. I'm calling it.
Tyler comes in.
COURTNEY: Twice in one day. How lucky (!)
When Tyler asks about Jack, Paige explains that God has other plans for him. Tyler is sympathetic, but says he knows how she feels – leading Courtney to surmise that he's single at present. He confirms that's the case.
PAIGE: What's the point of it all, anyway – this whole love thing? A priest. I have been chasing a priest. I mean, how insane is that? I'm gonna enjoy being single from now on.
COURTNEY: Yes. Amen, sister.
COURTNEY: Yep, sorry. Too early for the holy jokes.
Paige decides to do something big, to get Jack out of her head.
TYLER: What about get a haircut?
COURTNEY: How about a house party? Your parents are away.
PAIGE: Yes. Yes! That's exactly what we need to do!
In the kitchen, Aaron is telling Amy about how Terese browbeat Tom for the cleaning contract, the subtext being that that's why he left town. Amy apologises for the situation she's put him in (for some reason calling him ‘Azza'!) – but Aaron says that if Tom really wanted to be with him, he would have stayed anyway.
AMY: I can join you in the singles club.
AARON: Are you kidding? I'm not giving up!
AMY: Yeah. I'm done.
There's a knock at the door, and Paul shouts from the living room that he'll get it – while Jimmy goes to help Amy in the kitchen.
The person at the door is John, the private investigator. Paul says he knows Terese paid him to look into Ryan, and says he'll pay him double if he sends everything he found to the West Waratah Star.
PAUL: I want to expose Ryan Prescott and everybody caught up in his dirty little scheme.
He gives John an envelope of cash, saying he'll get the other half when the job is done. John nods and leaves.
AMY: Who was that?
PAUL: Oh, just some business associate.
