- Toadie asking Steph to do something for him if he doesn't make it out alive.
- Paige keeping a vigil by John Doe's bedside.
- Paul demanding Steph doesn't let the police into the motel without a search warrant.
- Paul reassuring Terese he didn't sabotage the boiler.
- Steph discovering plans for the boiler room in Paul's briefcase.
Steph confronts Paul with what she's discovered the moment he arrives back in the office at the motel. Paul denies that it's his and asks Steph why he would have been the one responsible! She replies for revenge but his comeback is that someone has put the plans into his briefcase and begs her to believe him.
Paul stops Steph from going to touch the plans in case fingerprints can be found on it and top of his accusation list is Tom Quill. Steph reminds him that people have died and so she wants to get the police involved.
PAUL: Steph I am not involved, I swear I am not now please just give me some time to prove it.
She's not having that and forcibly shoves him out of the road so she can take his briefcase to the police.
Outside The Waterhole, Sonya thanks all the responders for their help so far and to keep it up. She is surprised to see Terese who explains she's just trying to keep busy before heading inside the bar. Amy literally hijacks her to force her to have something to eat and drink and to give her a pep talk that Toadie will survive and if he doesn't then she will get through it.
Aaron comes to update her on things he's been doing because it's not out yet that he doesn't work for her any more but on seeing her upset look, volunteers to keep on doing the PA role to help her out.
Nate arrives to say that they're through to Toadie's room and almost ready to extract him. “Let's do it!” she says to him.
Lauren stops by to see how a very weary looking Paige is and if anyone has come forward to claim the mystery man. Nobody has and Lauren suggests that Paige may wish to do some sketching as she found it useful in the aftermath of Matt's death. “I keep thinking he's going to wake up any second and tell me what his name is,” Paige tells her mum adding that she so wants to help him find his family and get his life back.
Paul is round to beg Nene to give him an alibi as he's heard that the firies have given a timeframe for when the sabotage occurred (10- 10.30) and he's not got an alibi for that time. To help convince her to say he was accompanying her on her walk, he lays it on think that they need to stick together as a family, for Amy and Jimmy.
PAUL: Please, please I'm begging of you.
Nate tells Toadie over the radio that the harness is on its way down, and when it arrives gives instructions on how to put it on. Toadie does that but as the lift begins the beam starts to move and he quickly alerts them to stop but Nate reassures him that while it may move it is secure, so the lift continues… or maybe it doesn't because when we come back from the commercial break things have grown to a halt while they recalibrate their calculations.
Paul is trying to suggest to Mark that his briefcase was tampered with at #22 with someone breaking in through the door that isn't normally locked (since there is no sign of a break in) and that it's Tom Quill he should be really going after. Mark asks for his movements so he explains that he was out walking and ran into Tom at Lassiters around 9.45 where he tried to get Paul to join up in some revenge against Julie, which he refused to partake in.
PAUL: Oh come on, it doesn't take a genius to work out that he obviously went through with it.
Mark wants to know where he was from 10am onwards and Nene appears to say that Paul was with her (brainstorming for future events, given her creative director role in COTY) for about 40 minutes or so by the lake. Paul then says he went to Lassiters to talk to Terese/Daniel before leaving and Nene says she was waiting in the complex for Amy when the explosion happened.
Mark doesn't exactly believe either of them, especially when Nene adds in that it “sounds like this Tom Quill is your man though.”
Nate gives Sonya the good news that Toadie is out and seconds later we see him being stretchered out of the hotel. “I love you,” she tells her husband as he is carried to an ambulance.
Lauren is back with some food for Paige and hands over what John Doe had on him at the time of the accident, apparently some nurse thinks Paige is his girlfriend. Included is a business card for Tyler and Lauren wonders if he was a customer, so Paige gets her phone out to call him.
Sonya has gathered those involved in the rescue in the bar to give them her sincere thanks for what they did today. “Well done Mayor,” Amy hugs her after the pep talk, but Sonya feels she hasn't done anything in comparison to the rescuers, however Amy points out she was the one keeping their spirits up. Terese comes over to hug Sonya too and is told that its time for her to go home now too.
“I don't know how she's still standing,” Sonya comments to Amy after Terese leaves (she's got some stuff still to do before she can go home) and is told to go be with Toadie.
Nate invites Aaron to go with him to get something to eat (food and drink is being organised for the volunteers) but he turns him down and gives a noncommittal response to catching up later.
Paul lays it on thickly that Nene lied to the police for a reason – their family. “I have enjoyed spending time with you,” she says just as they hear Terese enter the house. He tries talking to her about the blueprints but she's not caring about any of that just now. Nene gives her condolences to Terese and Paul quickly escorts her out of the house before going to sit next to Terese on the sofa, reassuring her that he's there for her.
Terese has picked up a top that belonged to Josh that was lying on the sofa and breaking down, tells Paul that she just wants him back. “Of course you do,” Paul mutters to her while pulling her into him for a comfort hug.
Toadie is enjoying being reunited with Nell and Sonya but despite him saying he's fine (and in particular his back is fine), Sonya wants to wait until the test results are back before fully celebrating. Toad is confident of getting out tomorrow and plans on resuming their normal quiet existence, having been through enough in recent times!
“You really do have nine lives don't you!” Steph comments on coming into Toadie's room and giving him a hug. When Sonya (and Nell) go to sort out the paperwork, Toadie asks Steph to forget about what he asked after she told him that she wasn't able to do what he asked. “I still can,” she says but Toadie tells her it's not important.
Tyler comes looking for Paige in the bar as he can't get hold of her but Lauren says she's still at the hospital and admits to him that she's worried about her daughter.
Nene tells Amy that she wishes she could do more for Terese than buy takeaway but Amy is more concerned at making sure Nene gets herself booked up for treatment. Conversely, that isn't important to her because she's concerned at the hassles Paul is getting from the police because he's family.
AMY: He is my family, not yours.
Nate thank Aaron for coming round, he wasn't sure how he would be talking to him. Aaron is still bitter at Nate not calling, especially when he got back into town.
NATE: Go on say it, I'm a jerk!
He admits that he wanted to call Aaron when he got back in the country and asks if Aaron can forgive him.
AARON: You can't be serious! You coming to me to ask for forgiveness so that you can feel better about yourself, well then what about me when I'm feeling abandoned and worthless? What, I get radio silence.
NATE: You're not worthless.
AARON: I know that but that's exactly how you made me feel.
“I'm sorry,” Nate replies and wants to know how they can go back to how things were.
AARON: Time didn't stop when you were away Nate.
NATE: I know that.
AARON: We can't just pick up where we left off. Right, I wasn't sitting around here pining waiting for you to come back.
NATE: I didn't expect you to.
Aaron then says that he shouldn't have come and heads for the door.
Tyler looks at John Doe and doesn't recognise him as being one of his clients despite him having a garage business card. Paige wants them to look through his log books to check and he agrees to do that if she comes with him so they can get through the calls quicker. Reluctantly she agrees and wants to go via the police to let them know what they've found.
Terese asks Paul how he coped when Cameron died and his reply is he didn't because he was devastated.
TERESE: So here I am, one of those parents and I don't know how I am going to face tomorrow or any other day after that.
Paul reassures her that he will be there for her, whatever she needs. “I do want to love you Paul,” she tells him and then leans forward to kiss him. Paul doesn't immediately kiss her back but just as he does, Nene walks in the front door and catches them.
Number 22 (next day)
Accompanied to Marianne by The Jezabels, Paul and Terese wake up after spending the night on the sofa (fully clothed). “At least you made it to the next day,” he says to her as she awakens and is told that is “only because of you.”
PAUL: That's the first step.
TERESE: It's strange, the first time ever I don't know what's next.
“At least I have you here,” she adds and Paul says that they don't need to rush into anything; he can wait for as long as she wants.
TERESE: I don't want to wait. I need you to help me get through this; I need you to help me find a light in all this stuff.
They then get a visitor – Mark (and his silent colleagues) who want to take Paul to the station for further questioning. “Why?” Terese asks and he says that someone has brought forward some new information about the explosion.
- Sarah commenting about how long Susan/Karl have been together.
- Terese telling Brad that Paul is in love with her.
- Mark receiving information about the explosion.
- Daniel accusing Paul of being the one responsible.
- Terese laying into Paul.
