Previously on Neighbours

- Josh telling Nate about the USB Naomi left.
- Nate/Josh trying to access the USB's contents.
- Paul receiving a text and immediately calling Tim Collins.
- Karl commenting to Sonya on how good Steph is.
- Belinda telling Steph that she isn't ready and that it will end in tears.
Garage
"This chair sucks," Steph cries after Toadie scores a basket in their game (she's using an office chair this time not a wheelchair). Toad invites her to go with him to the school sleepover (to show the community she's well) and thinks she can get special dispensation when she reminded him about her curfew.
The happy Steph face has then disappears when she spots Belinda coming out of Grease Monkeys.
Harold's café
Piper makes a vlog about the school sleepover for her vloggers to watch.
Meanwhile, Susan tells Brad about how great the online petition is going when she comes in to see how he's going with supplies (Lauren is donating loads and is making protest signs too). She comments that he appears to be happy, and he explains the chat he had with Terese and hopes that things have changed a corner.
BRAD: The worst might be over.
SUSAN: Let's hope so.
Ben is back in town and his Grandma is pleased to see him and so is Piper but more so she can have a go at him for not replying to the texts she sent him.
Number 28
We get confirmation that it was Josh who sent Paul the text via Aaron's spare pay as you go (aka untraceable) phone and wonder how quickly Paul is going to react. Nate thinks he's doing something but one that he doesn't incriminate himself! "Paul's good at covering his tracks," Nate remarks after Josh asked how it was going trying to access the files.
JOSH: He deserves to be exposed and not just for what he did to me, people need to know the truth about how he really operates.
Nate thinks another text is needed to keep the pressure on him but before they get a chance to do that, Amber comes round to pick up the bedding supplies Susan said were at the house, joking that it includes a stretcher for her! A concerned Josh wants her to check with Karl that she's fit to attend but she points out that it's just a sleepover, not climbing Mount Everest!
The Waterhole
Paul reassures his daughter that she's better without Liam in her life when she mentions Jimmy growing up without his dad being around but his attention is taken with a text from Josh.
Garage
Belinda denies that she is spying on Steph nor that she is affecting her confidence and instead questions Steph (after she worked out who was in the wheelchair) if that is the reason she is back - for Toadie. After saying a clear "no," Steph follows that up by telling Belinda that she doesn't understand.
STEPH: This place... The people here, they really look out for each other.
BELINDA: They do in Bendigo too!
STEPH: I know but it's different! This place for me is the supportive social network they talk about in therapy. It's like tonight, there's a protest at the school, a sleep out, and everyone's going.
Belinda doesn't think that is a good idea and gets that Steph just wants somewhere to belong but thinks she is looking in the wrong place.
STEPH: My life is not your business any more, you need to stay out of it okay, I don't need your help!
School
Kyle tells Josh/Aaron what's out of bounds but the latter is then roped into helping Tyler put up the protest banners instead of roping off the out of bounds areas.
As they walk round, Tyler gloats that he's enjoying his status as the more stable employed younger brother rather than being the black sheep of the family!
In the classroom, Kyle can tell that something is up and Amy tells him that Jimmy is unsettled after Liam left and wants to get home to him but refuses his offer of going home now.
Kyle gets a visitor from 'Gazza' wanting to offer him a dodgy deal (which Kyle wants nothing to do with but listening in the background Aaron looks interested) and it's Amy who chases him off after 'doing a Susan' on him (suggesting that he donates his goods/profits to help save the school).
The Waterhole
We discover that whatever Paul is up to, he's got a partner - Sue Parker. He also thinks that whoever else knows is linked to the saving of EHS. Sue also confesses that she did indeed try to put the kybosh on the petition until Susan got wind and started it off.
SUE: I've done what I can, now it's your turn!
Belinda catches Toadie as he arrives at the bar and says she needs to talk to him about Steph. "Sounds serious," he casually says and she replies that there is something he needs to know... "for her sake as well as yours."
(Later)
Belinda is filling Toadie in - that she met Steph in the psych hospital in Bendigo (but doesn't say what her role is nor who she is) and that she saw Steph go through the worst time and saw her do everything they said to help her get better. Toad says that Steph never wanted him to visit and Belinda explains that's because he was a reminder of her past.
BELINDA: And that's what this place is too and it's not good.
TOADIE: She's happier than what I've seen her in a long time.
BELINDA: She's not ready to be back here. She's convinced herself she can handle the memories of her old life, she even thinks she can get back.
TOADIE: Maybe she can?
BELINDA: She's more fragile than you know.
TOADIE: She's nothing like she was the last time she was here, I remember what she was like, she's changed.
BELINDA: Maybe. Psychotic episodes don't just happen out of nowhere, there are triggers - certain people and places.
Toadie asks if she thinks that Steph is heading for another breakdown but she doesn't answer that, just stating again that being back in Erinsborough isn't good for her.
BELINDA: And the more entrenched she gets in this community, the harder it's going to be for you to do what you'll need to do at some point.
TOADIE: Which is?
BELINDA: Tell her to leave.
Number 28
Nate has deduced from his searching that whatever Freestyle is, it's nothing to do with Josh/Conrad/Forrest, "it's just a standard business deal." The boys now figure that's why Paul hasn't been replying to the texts and that they are now at a dead end.
School
Paul gloats to Ben/Tyler that there doesn't appear to be much of a turnout until Tyler points out that the gym is actually packed and suggests that he makes a speech since there are some journalists there too. Paul turns down their invite citing that he's got other things to do and departs.
Tyler is trying to suss out why Ben is so happy and thinks that there is a girl involve but their conversation is interrupted with the arrival of Piper - she's online stalked him to find out he's been talking to his ex. Tyler isn't pleased either and reminds Ben what she did, but he defends her saying she is sorry. Piper doesn't think an apology is suitable and warns him against taking her back.
BEN: Why do you care?
PIPER: Because I'm your friend and I'm trying to help you.
Ben isn't appreciative of her help and asks her to drop it.
Meanwhile in the corridor, Susan instructs some newly arrived students what to do before checking in with Brad to see how the petition is going (very well) and thinks it will help convince the authorities to keep the school open. They are both then surprised to see Sue (and Jayden) arrive especially given her stance but she explains that Jayden wants to stay at the school and is "expressing his rights to have a difference of opinion." "We can't stop them," Brad mutters to Susan after he sends the pair of them off to the classroom to sign in.
However, as they enter the classroom Jayden is shocked by what his mum said because he doesn't want to stay as he hates the place and was told he wouldn't have to attend "this stupid thing." Sue just tells him to be quiet and to sign up.
(Later)
Piper is doing more for her vlog (talking about Ben) and runs into the resident bully (Jayden) and just as she is trying to get rid of him, an alarm goes off. Jayden thinks it's a false alarm and even Toadie thinks so too having just arrived on that floor via a lift (when did that appear other than just now!) and seconds after he's said that, it goes off.
TOADIE: See, some kid's idea of a joke!
He tells that to Steph who has arrive to tell him she's been given permission to attend the sleepover but just now needs to locate a sleeping bag. "What's that look for?" she asks and he suggests that maybe she's doing too much too soon. She's confused as it was his idea and wants to know what happened, so he tells her about bumping into this woman who knew her from the hospital but they didn't identify themselves. "I know who it is," Steph says but doesn't want to say more to Toadie when he asks her who. "She was worried about you," he says, so Steph picks up that is why he now doesn't want her at the school.
TOADIE: She knew a lot about your history.
STEPH: Don't listen to her, she's nothing!
Toad is now more insistent that she goes back to the hospital but before that, that they go somewhere and have a chat. Steph isn't in the mood for chatting but has got the message and leaves.
(Later)
Susan lays down the rules to everyone attending the sleepover which essentially translates as no wondering off or you'll be sent straight back to the gym. Much to the annoyance of Sue/Paul, Susan thanks the volunteers for what they are doing and in turn Brad encourages everyone to show their thanks for their 'Fearless leader.' Susan finishes the pep talk before Brad tells everyone to head to the gym to join the others.
(Later)
Ben finally gets a chance to speak to Piper about her attitudes towards him being friends with Emma the ex. "I can't even believe you are acknowledging her existence after what she did to you," is Piper's stance and then denies Ben's thinking that she has a thing for him! She opens up to him about seeing someone before she left Canada but ended it prior to leaving but admits that there is a "gaping wound with me all the time," so is trying to look forward because going back to Canada isn't possible.
BEN: Which is why you bit my head off earlier.
PIPER: Yes, I think they call it projection on talk shows!
Both say their sorry's to the other and Ben suggests they go find something to distract her although she warns him if Susan catches them roaming the school she is going to blame him!
(Later)
Meanwhile in the classroom, Amber finishes getting some photos of the silent protesting students and after they leave, jokes with Toadie that she might have to dob him in when he confesses that he has graffiti'd the school and plans on looking for it during the night. His comeback is that since Billy was involved too, he'll get off with it! Tyler pops his head in to say that Toadie is wanted by Brad.
"So your conscious got the better of you," Brad greets Sue with out in the corridor since she's still sticking around but she informs him that she's simply there to give Jayden his jumper after he left it in the car. Brad wants to know why she is against it, given her role she should be leading the charge.
SUE: Because it's an unwinnable war and I don't have the power to fight it.
"Well none of us do individually," he replies with and asks if she's seen the petition. Sue scoffs at the petition as it's a "done deal and a waste of time and energy fighting it." He accuses her of being on the PNF to pad out her CV, so she goes for his jugular and tells him not to take the high moral ground because he's "in no position to do so."
The Waterhole
Kyle tells Nate why he's pulled out of doing the sleepover, Jimmy was texting him like crazy and thinks he'll pop over later to see how he is.
Meanwhile at a table, Belinda has taken Steph's call to meet as a sign she's ready to talk but instead gets her wrath instead!
STEPH: You don't come here to my home town and start badmouthing me to my friends. Are we clear on that?!
BELINDA: You've got it wrong.
STEPH: I don't think so. I wanted to go to the school sleep out tonight, I should be able to go to the sleep out but Toadie's done a backflip and there's no way he would have done that unless there was someone in his ear telling him I'm unstable.
Belinda denies that she said that, so Steph asks instead "why are you trying to ruin my life?" Belinda pleads that she isn't and wants a chance to explain.
STEPH: You can't explain this, you've crossed the line and you know it.
Belinda asks her to calm down (Steph is getting fairly annoyed at her) and warns her from going to the school. That doesn't go down well with Steph and when Belinda tries to touch her hand, quickly pulls it back and warns her not to touch her.
Not surprisingly, they've attracted the attention of the other patrons, Kyle/Nate especially, so Steph leans in close to deliver a final message before leaving.
STEPH: You are going to stay away from me and my friends. I'm warning you!
School
Aaron walks out of the school and the corridors (and only classroom) are eerily quiet... but something is happening in Susan's office... a fire!
