- Paul persuades Naomi to give their relationship a chance
- Amy is furious when Paul buys Jimmy an iPad against her instructions
- Amy tells Paul that he can still see Jimmy once a week, but that he needs to follow her rules
- Sonya sees Dimato's goon Coluzzi getting heavy with Tyler at the garage
- Karl realises someone has been stealing prescriptions from his pad
- Under the spotlight himself, Nate tells Tyler that Karl needs to know the truth
- Tyler comes to tell Karl he stole the prescriptions, and Karl says he's already called Mark
Mark arrives and enters Karl's office to find Tyler there alone. Tyler explains that Karl's had to go and deal with patients but will be back soon.
MARK: Oh, right. What are you doing here?
TYLER: I'm waiting for you.
MARK: I'm here because Karl wanted to report a theft.
TYLER: Yeah. And you're looking at the thief.
Toadie and Jimmy are performing a puppet show with Nell's toys, including Captain Fugglesworth! Nell seems highly impressed, as does Sonya. Amy is on the phone to a client, Linda, rescheduling an appointment because of Kyle being ill. The situation has meant that Amy will have to cover for Kyle for at least another day, but she's unsure of who will babysit Jimmy.
Jimmy's upset because Amy was going to help him with his science project tomorrow. She says she will, when she gets home from work. Jimmy suggests that Paul could look after him. Amy says no, claiming he's too busy. So Toadie and Sonya offer to look after Jimmy tomorrow. Amy offers to pay them, but Sonya tells her not to be ridiculous. Amy thanks them, saying that will be a big help.
Tyler is spinning a lie to Mark about the stolen prescriptions, claiming he only got two packets of pills for himself, for the pain after he came off his bike. He explains the lack of scratches to the bike by saying it fell on a grassy embankment. Mark asks why Tyler didn't come to the hospital; Tyler claims he was speeding at the time, so didn't want the cause of his injuries on record as it could have put his driving licence at risk, and therefore his job as a mechanic.
Tyler says he saw the pad while he was over at Nate's, and took the prescriptions on impulse. Mark tells him he could be charged with theft, and obtaining drugs by false representation. He tells Tyler to get his injuries looked at while he's here, then says he needs details of the date and place of the bike accident and any witnesses.
TYLER: Why? I've confessed. I'll be charged, end of story.
MARK: Once I've investigated, the Department can decide if and when you'll be formally charged. Now, where exactly did this accident take place?
Naomi and Paul are being very flirtatious, as Naomi teasingly accuses Paul of wooing her in business hours when he suggests an early lunch break.
PAUL: I don't remember a clause in our agreement pertaining to when the said wooing should take place?
They go to kiss, despite Naomi being worried it's too public – and indeed Imogen walks in just as they're about to lock lips.
IMOGEN: Sorry. Awkies!
Paul makes a swift exit, and promises to see Naomi back at his place later. Imogen has come to talk to Naomi about costumes for Paige's 21st birthday, but says she's now more interested in getting the goss on her and Paul! Naomi confirms that she and Paul are an item, and Imogen excitedly asks her to tell her everything…
Mark has come to talk to Paige about Tyler. He tells her about Tyler stealing the prescriptions (unaware of Paige's involvement), and asks her if she honestly believes he was in a bike accident. He explains Tyler is insisting there weren't any witnesses.
MARK: I just wish he would come to me for help.
PAIGE: Well, your approval means a lot to him. So I'm not surprised he kept this from you.
MARK: Which leads me to wonder what else he is keeping from me.
Mark says he's thinking of ringing Stubbsy to get an insight into Tyler's work- life. Concerned to prevent Mark from finding out Stubbsy doesn't exist, Paige says Tyler won't thank him for getting involved in his job, and says that she can tell Mark anything he needs to know about Tyler's work, since she was working with him.
MARK: Look, I know you don't have Stubbsy's number. But do you at least know his full name?
PAIGE: No. No, I don't.
MARK: It looks like I'm gonna have to track him down myself.
Paige looks scared.
Sonya and Toadie are helping Jimmy with his science project. Amy comes in, and seems disappointed, as she was going to work with him on the project tonight. Sonya says she thought it would give them something to do while Nell's asleep. Amy accepts this; she says she'll try to make it home for lunch, then leaves.
The task at hand is to build a bridge from lollipop sticks; the strongest bridge in the class will get put on display. Jimmy's printed off some instructions from the web; Sonya worries that this might be cheating, but Toadie doesn't seem concerned, and high- fives Jimmy! Sonya gets a call from Mark, asking for a chat. She rushes off to meet him, leaving the boys to start on the bridge.
Mark is filling Sonya in on what Tyler's been up to. He says Tyler always got up to mischief in Port Lincoln, but nothing illegal. He asks Sonya about the guy she saw Tyler arguing with at the garage a couple of weeks ago (Dimato's goon Coluzzi, though Sonya doesn't know this), but Sonya says she didn't hear what they were arguing about.
She says she might be able to ID the guy, and describes him as pretty distinctive looking, with a bald head and tattoos. She agrees to come down to the station and take a look at some mugshots, in case the guy has a record. Sonya asks what Mark thinks Tyler's mixed up in.
MARK: I have no idea. Which scares me. I just – I know that Tyler isn't telling me the full truth. He doesn't trust me.
SONYA: Well I'm sure it's not that. It's just, you guys have been estranged for so long.
MARK: Yeah, exactly. I haven't been there for him. If I can figure out what's going on, maybe I can be there for him now.
Naomi is showing off a dress to Imogen, that she's planning to wear to lunch with Paul.
NAOMI: Ta- da! It's my demure look.
IMOGEN: Right. I'd love to see how much fabric makes up your vixen look (!)
NAOMI: Too much skin?
IMOGEN: Just a little.
Imogen suggests she go casual, and asks if Naomi's nervous. She admits she might be – things have been so on- and- off between her and Paul.
NAOMI: With Paul, it feels different. It's like he actually respects me or something.
IMOGEN: Oh! How dare he? (!)
NAOMI: I'm not used to it, alright? Not after the sushi train of losers I've been out with in the past.
IMOGEN: Brennan was nice, wasn't he?
NAOMI: That's true. Brennan was very nice – and actually the closest thing I've come to a normal relationship. No, I'm talking about all the things I put up with with Charles.
IMOGEN: Your old boss?
NAOMI: You know one time, he invited me on this golf retreat, right? So I packed a whole suitcase of sexy lingerie – and then his son turned up. I had to pretend I was his caddy. I had to spend the whole weekend polishing his nine- iron.
IMOGEN: I really hope that's a golfing term. But what did you expect – he was married!
NAOMI: I know, look, I know. Wedding ring means family commitments. But the thing is, Charles was just as committed to everything else in his life, alright? His career, his friends at the golf club, his fitness regime. And little old me was just stuck at the bottom of that list. Imogen – I was his assistant. I wrote the damn list!
IMOGEN: You deserve so much more than that.
NAOMI: Yes, I do. No more playing second fiddle for me. With Paul it's gonna be different. I'm gonna be… first violin!
Toadie and Jimmy are working on the lollipop stick bridge. Toadie gets a work- related phone call, and goes into the kitchen to take it. But he's distracted when Jimmy starts moaning that the bridge isn't coming together properly – and then knocks a bowl of glue onto the carpet!
TOADIE: Steve, can I call you back?
Tyler has come to meet Paige, having got a message from her. She takes him into the kitchen, and tells him Mark's been asking questions about the bike accident and the prescription pad.
TYLER: Don't worry. I didn't tell him you're involved.
But Paige is worried that Mark is determined to find out what's going on – and that when he does, he'll learn about her involvement in Dimato's setup, as well as Bailey's car theft that initiated it. Tyler insists he's only confessed to stealing the prescriptions, and that Mark has no way of linking that back to Dimato if they stick to the bike accident story.
PAIGE: Which he doesn't believe! You know your brother. He's not going to stop digging around until he gets his answers.
Suite 1 Eclipse Apartments
Naomi arrives for her lunch date with Paul. He compliments her on her (new) attire.
NAOMI: Oh, this old thing? I just threw it on, didn't even think about it that much, and… Ooh!
Naomi is impressed to see Paul has candles lit – he's prepared drinks for them here, then is taking her to the tapas bar by the river for lunch. He presents her with a rose.
PAUL: And for the lady… How's my wooing doing so far?
NAOMI: So far, so good.
Amy pops over from Kyle's yard to borrow a tool from Tyler. She comments on the bike he's refurbishing, and they get talking about how rebuilds were one of Tyler's hobbies when he was young.
TYLER: Made my first one with Mark.
TYLER: Yeah. Family had an old runabout. Little Datsun 120Y. Dad thought it was on its last legs, but Mark reckoned we could rebuild the engine – give it a couple more years.
AMY: So did you?
TYLER: Yeah. No thanks to Mark. Halfway through the job he just took off, and joined the force.
AMY: So you finished it on your own? Nice one. I hope you rubbed that in his face when he came to visit?
TYLER: Actually, I wanted to impress him by finishing it before he came back for Christmas. But, erm, he never came back.
AMY: Yeah, well. Family can disappoint you like that.
TYLER: Yeah. Sometimes I wonder if it's even worth the effort.
AMY: Yeah, I used to think that about Paul. Look, he deserted me when I was a kid, and it was really hard to forget that. But, I dunno. You know what some people say – because they're family you should just try and forgive them.
Tyler looks thoughtful, and Amy leaves, promising to return the tool later.
Erinsborough Police Station
Mark is showing Sonya mugshots on the police computer, but none of them seem familiar to her, until a picture of Coluzzi comes up.
SONYA: And that's him. That's the guy.
Sonya says she's 100% sure that he was the one bothering Tyler.
MARK: It's Michael Coluzzi. He works for Dimato!
Mark explains to Sonya (and new viewers) that they arrested Dimato at the container yard sting, but that he since took off overseas – and now he thinks Coluzzi and co are running the operation.
SONYA: But why would someone like that be hassling Tyler?
MARK: I reckon I've got a fair idea.
Toadie is trying to sweet- talk his frustrated client Steve on the phone, while simultaneously clearing up the glue- spill! Jimmy is still having trouble building the bridge, meanwhile. Sonya comes in and takes over the glue clean- up, allowing Toadie to take his call to another room and promising to help Jimmy with the bridge. But Nell starts crying next door, so Sonya has to go and see to her.
While she's gone, Jimmy sees Sonya's phone on the table, and picks it up…
Paul and Naomi are about to head out to the restaurant for their lunch date, when Paul gets a text from Jimmy, on Sonya's phone. ‘Hi G- dad. Need help with my project. Please come over. Jimmy.'
Paul's heartened by the message as he says it's the first time Jimmy has reached out to him. He says he'll go round to help Jimmy after lunch, but Naomi encourages him to go now. Paul takes her up on this, and she says she'll wait in the penthouse for him to come back. She looks a little disappointed as he leaves.
Mark turns up.
TYLER: If you're here to arrest me, just get on with it, alright?
Mark explains he's not here about the prescriptions, explaining how Sonya saw him arguing with Coluzzi recently. Tyler tries to spin another lie, claiming he's never heard of Coluzzi but that he did have a row with an unhappy customer.
MARK: Look, you can stop denying it, okay? I know what's going on. You've been threatened.
TYLER: I don't know what you're talking about!
MARK: Look, it's okay, mate. You can drop the act. Look, Dimato approached you about using the garage as a front for his operation – am I right? And when you said no, Coluzzi roughed you up – threatened you into submission? He probably threatened your whole family, just like he did with Naomi. Which is why you kept quiet about it. Made up that whole bike accident story to cover for your injuries. And what's more, there's nothing on Stubbsy. Which makes me think, is he in on this too?
TYLER: Well, what are you gonna do?
MARK: First of all, I'm gonna charge Coluzzi with your assault. And then I'm gonna force Dimato's whereabouts out of him. So we can shut this operation down for good. Hey, it's okay, alright? You don't have to lie anymore. I'll take care of everything.
Mark hugs Tyler, who looks worried.
Paul and Jimmy are making good progress with the bridge, as Paul explains the advantage of triangular structures over rectangular ones.
JIMMY: How do you know all this stuff?
PAUL: That's because my father – your great- grandfather, Jim Robinson – was a structural engineer.
JIMMY: Cool! Hey, his name's Jim – so is mine. Did he ever build any bridges?
Paul says no, but that he probably designed a few in his time. As they continue building, Amy comes in and is surprised to find Paul there. He explains Jimmy texted him, asking for help with the project. Paul makes to leave, but Jimmy is keen for him to stay – so Amy invites him to stick around for lunch. Paul calls Naomi to cancel their arrangements.
Suite 1 Eclipse Apartments / No 30
Paul explains to Naomi that he's having lunch with Jimmy and Amy, but promises he'll make it up to her. He tells her to order some room service, and that he'll be back in an hour to get on with work.
NAOMI: Have a good…
But Paul has hung up.
NAOMI: … time.
She looks annoyed.
Tyler's about to take some of the prescription painkillers, but suddenly stops, puts the bottle in the trash, and goes to take it outside just as Mark comes in. Tyler explains Aaron is out shopping. Mark starts opening files on the table, saying he's hopeful that his superiors will reopen the Dimato investigation now they have a new lead – adding that they're on the hunt for Coluzzi.
Mark asks Tyler for Stubbsy's phone number, but Tyler has gone very quiet.
TYLER: I don't have it.
MARK: Mate, it's okay, I'm not gonna–
TYLER: I don't have it, because Stubbsy doesn't exist.
MARK: What? What are you talking about?
TYLER: I work for Dimato.
