Previously
- The discord between Brad and Dr Nick rumbles on
- Lauren finds a bottle of wine in Bailey's rucksack
- Bailey tells his parents how guilty he feels about the kids' money being stolen
- Matt finds out about Dimato's car- laundering scheme, and is offered a bribe to keep quiet
The Waterhole
Matt is sitting at the bar, unshaven, grimly sipping whisky.
Harold's Store
Paige asks Bailey if he wants to hang out tonight. He quickly realises Lauren's told her about the wine bottle, and thinks she's trying to babysit him. Paige admits she's worried about him, but Bailey tells her not to - he's fine.
Nick comes in to meet the Willises for a meal, but Terese isn't here yet - just Brad and Josh. The tension is palpable; Nick notes Brad's tracksuit, and Brad explains that he's organising a fun run for the kids at school. Paige comes over to take their orders, and Nick immediately starts flirting with her. Paige interprets this as friendliness and is friendly back.
When they get texts to say Terese isn't coming, Nick opts to get his meal as a takeaway, explaining he's spent all afternoon giving out flu shots so has a lot to catch up on.
BRAD: Flu shots? Isn't that a bit lowly for the great oncology specialist?
NICK: When it comes to helping people, I can never say no to volunteering my time.
Paige appears to fall for this completely, and goes on to recommend something from the menu. As she turns round to read off the board, however, Nick starts blatantly eyeing her up, while Brad looks furious.
The Waterhole
Matt gets a call from Lauren, but ignores it. A cheery Kyle comes in and strikes up conversation, but it quickly becomes clear Matt's fairly drunk and pretty depressed. Kyle tries to cheer him up, but Matt
MATT: My dad loved to drink - loved it too much. Sometimes it's all he loved.
KYLE: ... Mate, do you want me to call Lauren?
MATT: Days never got better for him. I dunno, maybe it's a family thing, huh?
KYLE: Come on, mate. You know that's not true.
MATT: My dad... Here I am... Bailey.
Matt stresses about not being able to keep a roof over his family's head, but Kyle says there's more to being a dad than that.
KYLE: They're lucky to have you. Trust me. I know rubbish dads, and it's not you.
Kyle sees Matt's car keys on the counter, and swipes them away, before offering him a lift home. Matt agrees.
Harold's Store
Bailey continues to be in a bad mood as Paige tries to engage him with latte art! Brad notices the exchange and asks if Bailey's okay. Paige quickly spills the beans to Brad and Josh about Lauren finding wine in Bailey's bag, although admits he didn't get round to drinking any. Of course, Brad thinks the way to solve all Bailey's woes is to get him to join the running club, to help him blow off some steam. Paige agrees.
Erinsborough Hospital
Nick is smarming around Georgia, who's giving him short shrift. Karl comes in and asks Nick if he'd like to go for dinner with him, but Nick says he's got takeaway. Karl looks way too disappointed at this, and says he'll 'hold him' to a feed tomorrow night instead, before leaving.
NICK: Why do I feel like I just stood someone up on prom night?
GEORGIA: Did you notice that he didn't invite me? See, us nurses, we don't deserve to eat.
When Georgia admits Kyle was supposed to bring her some food but didn't, Nick tries to give her half of his takeaway.
GEORGIA: You're pushing the caring doctor routine a bit far, aren't you?
Nick claims he has an ulterior motive; he wants her help with fundraising for the cancer centre. He says that if Georgia will give him some pointers, she'll get half his dinner. She looks unsure.
No 32
Kyle brings a stumbling Matt home, and subtly hands Lauren his car keys, saying his car's still at Lassiter's. Kyle leaves.
LAUREN: What's going on, Matt? You hardly ever drink. And honestly, could your timing be any worse? You know what a mess Bailey is - what are you thinking?
MATT: It just got away from me, that's all.
Lauren sits down next to him.
LAUREN: Come on, we're stronger than this. I know it's tough at the moment, but if we work together, we'll get through it. If there's anything else going, on you need to tell me.
Matt looks at her as spooky music plays.
MATT: No, there's nothing.
He walks off to bed, as Lauren looks worried.
Erinsborough Hospital
The office lights are flickering as Georgia runs through her fundraising techniques with Nick, while they share lunch. Eventually the flickering distracts her and she goes to turn the light off altogether - and she puts a lamp on instead, as they get back to work. Nick is obviously ogling her again. Georgia can't find her pen, and Nick reaches over and retrieves it from behind her ear. Are those sparks crackling between them? By the smirk on Nick's face he seems to think so.
Shortly afterwards, they're still talking fundraising. Georgia says they're doing a blood drive this week, which Nick might want to get involved with to help him with ideas for his research centre fundraising. As Nick flatters Georgia's ego, saying how dedicated a nurse she seems to be, she gradually warms to him. Nick tells her she'd be great for his cancer centre - and asks her to stay another five minutes to run him through a 'classic campaign'.
Georgia agrees, and flicks through the notes in her diary - during which she comes across her 'bucket list' that we saw the other day, of things she wanted to do before she has kids. She secretes it in the back of her notebook and keeps flicking - but Nick has spotted the bit of paper and looks interested.
Harold's Store
Brad goes into the kitchen to talk to Bailey about joining the running team.
BAILEY: Yeah, who told you? Mum or Paige?
Brad admits he knows about the wine, and Bailey tells him to keep it to himself.
BRAD: I understand how bad you're feeling.
BAILEY: No. No, I don't think you do.
BRAD: That knot in your stomach. So tight, eating anything makes you feel like you're gonna throw up?
BAILEY: ...
BRAD: You don't have to feel like that. You just need something to get this bad energy out of your system.
Paige listens at the door, as Brad tells Bailey he thinks he has a real chance of him winning a running prize in his age bracket. Bailey is interested when he hears about the $500 prize - and at this point Paige bursts in, and suggests Bailey give it a go. Paige says she'll go along to the running session as well, so Brad tells them he'll see them in the morning at the Oval.
Erinsborough Hospital
Georgia is about to clock out, and Nick thanks her for her help with the fundraising. Karl bustles past, reminding Nick of their dinner date tomorrow! Nick starts telling Georgia about how finding a cure for cancer motivates him to get up in a morning, and she remarks that it's nice to see someone passionate about their work.
While Georgia goes to do a last-minute check on a patient, Nick grabs Georgia's notebook from the desk and rifles through it to the 'bucket list'. Seeing that 'go to the ballet' is the top item ('sunrise balloon ride' being underneath), he smirks again.
Ramsay Street
The next morning, Matt is preparing to go for an Angry Jog™, while Lauren tries to persuade him to talk about things. But as he checks the post, he finds an envelope stuffed full of cash in the postbox! He hides it and turns to Lauren.
MATT: I don't think we should sell the house.
LAUREN: What?!
MATT: Not yet. Let's just postpone it for a while.
Matt claims that the reason he got drunk last night was that he was celebrating a windfall from work, saying that the union has sorted out the issues with overtime and that he's owed a heap of back-pay.
LAUREN: How much?
MATT: Could be as much as ten grand. Enough to keep the wolf from the door for a while - probably six months at least.
Lauren is overjoyed, and wonders why Matt didn't mention anything last night. He tries to brush off his mood yesterday by saying he was worried about Bailey, but Lauren says not to worry - they'll sort it all out. She congratulates on having taken on 'the jobs that nobody else wants' to see their family through the hard times, and says it's all paid off. She kisses him happily, but spooky music plays - and Matt looks worried as he walks back into the house.
The Oval
Bailey, Paige and a gang of extras are running up and down, as Brad barks orders at them. Bailey admits he feels kind of good and seems to be enjoying herself.
While Paige is doing some stretches, Nick sidles over and starts taunting Brad about his team.
NICK: It's like watching the Mighty Ducks on grass.
BRAD: You know, these kids are committed enough to turn up, and train in their own time. I'm not gonna stand here and listen to you insult them. They should be applauded.
Nick turns to stare at Paige.
NICK: Now that's something worth applauding.
BRAD: Excuse me?!
NICK: Paige. She's gorgeous. But you'd already know that.
BRAD: That's my daughter you're talking about!
NICK: You've done a really good job, mate. Think I might go and get some breakfast.
He smirks and walks off. Paige comes over to ask what he and Brad were talking about, and he says it was just old family stuff. The training continues.
The Waterhole
Kyle and Georgia are having breakfast when Nick walks in. Karl, who is on another table, stops him for a boring chat about some trivia quiz he's entering for the festival - but Nick is eager to get away.
While Kyle is absent, Nick comes over and thanks Georgia again for her help last night. To say thank you, he gives her two tickets to the ballet - claiming he bought them for him but that he can't go, because something came up with work. At first Georgia says she can't accept them, but he insists she keep them, and suggests she take Kyle along to make a night of it - adding that he's heard the show is amazing. Georgia smiles as he leaves her to it.
When Kyle comes back, Georgia tells him about the tickets - but he's far from enthused at the prospect of a night at the ballet. Georgia looks disappointed and looks over at Nick, who smiles back at her.
The Oval
Brad and Paige watch as the running team keeps training, encouraging Bailey to keep going.
Lassiter's Park
Matt is Angry Weight-Training™ in the outdoor gym area, pushing himself very hard despite evidently being in some discomfort. He has a flashback, to Dimato saying that he hopes Lauren doesn't mind losing her home, and looks sick with worry.
The Oval
Bailey seems also to be pushing himself hard with the running, and Paige tells Brad she's concerned he's overdoing it. Brad says some people like to run things off, and that he'll know when to stop.
Lassiter's Park
Matt is doing some Angry Exercises™.
The Oval
Paige compliments Brad on how good he is at training the kids, and he looks pretty pleased with himself, saying he's glad he can help them sort through their problems.
Lassiter's Park
More strenuous exercising with Matt...
The Oval
Bailey is flagging, and Paige notes that he looks exhausted. As he approaches the finish line, Brad encourages him to keep going - but Paige starts contradicting him and telling Bailey he's done enough. Sure enough, Paige is right - as a shattered Bailey collapses onto the grass. Paige shouts at Brad to call an ambulance, as Bailey appears to be unconscious. Brad tells her to get him on his side, as he makes the call...
Unmissable Drama
- Paige catches Tyler checking her out
- Dimato's goons get upset when Amber and Josh take photos of Grease Monkeys
Erinsborough's Biggest Celebration Ever
- Nate looks like he's about to kiss Karl for some reason
- Lucas and Vanessa are back, with a baby in tow
