Amber is holding a bag of frozen peas over her eye, clearly in a fair bit of pain, as Bailey and Paige fuss around her. Lauren and Matt come in, and ask what's happened. The kids explain, Paige insisting it was an accident.
Amber thinks it was deliberate; and Bailey compounds matters by helpfully remarking that Paige told him about how she used to punch her adoptive brother Ethan, and the girls at her boarding school. Accepting that it was an accident, Lauren asks them all to move on from this, while nursing Amber's injury.
Susan is having a cup of tea with Terese, who explains that Matt has confident that Lauren is totally committed to him. Terese admits she was wrong about an outside influence picking away at her marriage; she even wanted to believe it.
TERESE: But now I just have to face the fact that it's actually just me. Pretty pathetic, huh?
Susan tries to be upbeat, saying that you have to work on marriage on a daily basis – it's not easy for anyone. Terese says she and Brad have had conflict before, but only over relatively minor things. Susan reminds Terese that she and Brad clearly love each other; they just need to find a way to reconnect.
Daniel is working on plans for the new bar at PirateNet, and has summoned Paul to talk to him about it. He has had the idea of serving cocktails in jam jars.
PAUL: You dragged me out of a budget conference to discuss glassware.
Paul reminds Daniel that the last time he stuck his nose in to Daniel's affairs, it almost ended in a ‘nephew- uncle divorce' – and besides, he's too busy with important hotel business. But Daniel persuades him to come and see the progress he's made so far.
Amber, nursing her black eye, is whingeing to Imogen about getting punched by Paige. She continues to insist that Paige did it on purpose.
Paige is telling Lauren again that the punch was an accident. Lauren believes her, but adds that she's a bit curious about what Bailey said about Paige punching people in the past. Paige explains that her punching Ethan was just playing, and that the schoolgirls she hit were bullies. Lauren says she won't judge Paige for her past, but wishes Paige and Amber could get along.
PAIGE: If she hates me, she hates me.
LAUREN: She doesn't hate you!
AMBER: I hate her! Why did she have to break up with Brennan and move in with us?
IMOGEN: What are you saying, you just want to kick her out onto the street?
PAIGE: What are you saying, I should just put up with it?
Lauren reminds Paige that Amber's going through a lot right now – she's worried about Chris, her living arrangements, and her exams.
LAUREN: Once she accepts you're part of this family, she'll come round.
AMBER: I'll never accept her into our family after this, never!
IMOGEN: Okay, bottom line – Paige is not my favourite person either…
IMOGEN: But would it kill you to give her a break?
Imogen reminds Amber that Paige didn't grow up in a loving environment like them, and tells Amber to stop thinking about herself for a second and consider Paige. Amber looks mad, and puts her sunglasses on to cover her black eye.
Daniel shows Paul his ‘progress' on the bar, which still looks nothing like a bar, and every bit like an abandoned amateur radio station full of junk. He admits he hasn't got an opening date yet, but says it will be open ASAP. Paul asks Daniel what his unique selling point for the bar will be, to distinguish the new bar from the Waterhole.
DANIEL: Well, we're thinking of having regular Monday night drumming sessions.
DANIEL: Yeah, you know. Djembe, bongos, that sort of thing.
Paul appears unconvinced – and likewise by Daniel's suggestion to have a jerk chicken van visit on Wednesdays. But then he changes his tune and says it's just what Erinsborough needs.
A young woman appears at the door.
RAIN: It's so amazing to see you!
Daniel hugs his ex- girlfriend, and Paul looks concerned as Daniel introduces them.
Shortly afterwards, Paul continues to watch with suspicion, as Daniel asks Rain how she found him – was it through his mum and dad?
RAIN: As if they'd give me the time of day.
She explains that ‘Mick' told her Daniel was working at the hotel, and a receptionist there sent her to PirateNet. Daniel tells Rain he's engaged now; and Rain gushes that Amber must be ‘an incredible person' – she can't wait to meet her. Rain goes on to explain that ‘Eden', the ‘community' where they used to live (or as Paul calls it, a commune), has gone, so she's now homeless. Daniel seems upset.
RAIN: People lost faith in the vision. Stressed out about money, material stuff. So we went our separate ways. Daniel was very much the heart of the community – the glue, if you like, that held us all together.
PAUL: Hmm. Who you just happened to be having an intense relationship with, until it all ended in tears.
RAIN: Impermanence is a part of life. But your leaving – it was a huge blow.
Daniel looks sad.
Terese is in a dressing- gown, looking out of the window when Brad comes in from his jog, all hot and sweaty. She attempts a rather forthright seduction of him, telling him the kids are out of the house. But Brad is obviously uncomfortable, and his body language speaks volumes to Terese. He claims he just feels gross after the run, and says they can maybe resume things in a while, after he's freshened up. Terese tells him to take his time, but looks put out.
Paige is in the spa in the back yard, when Amber and Imogen turn up to talk to her. Amber is still in a mood, but Imogen tries to mediate between the two – saying they're ‘all sisters' and need to sort things out. Paige continues to insist the punch was an accident, but Amber is unconvinced.
PAIGE: I get that change is hard for you.
AMBER: I'm fine with change. I love change. It's you that I have a problem with. You like to push buttons – my buttons.
Giving up, Paige lies back and closes her eyes, and Amber stomps off inside, followed by a frustrated Imogen.
While Rain's in the ladies', Paul quizzes Daniel about how he feels now Rain has turned up. Daniel admits he doesn't know how to feel. At this point, Amber comes in, and Daniel is more amused than you'd perhaps expect by her black eye. She explains Paige was responsible. Rain then comes in, which really puts the icing on the cake that is Amber's day.
AMBER: *The* Rain?
RAIN: The one and only.
Daniel introduces Amber as his fiancée.
RAIN: Oh, of course you are! You're perfect. And that is a beautiful black eye. The colours are divine.
Amber looks bemused.
Terese is in a mood with Brad because he didn't want to TITTNL with her earlier – saying it never used to matter that he was ‘sweaty or sandy or tired'.
TERESE: You never used to reject me.
BRAD: I did not reject you. I just – I just don't want things to be like this.
TERESE: When I found about the kiss, I convinced myself that it was Lauren's fault. That, I dunno, she somehow pushed it onto you. But it wasn't like that, was it?
BRAD: We told you at the time – it was a mutual thing.
TERESE: So what does that make me, the new Beth?
TERESE: Well that's how you and I met. You cheated on your wife!
BRAD: Why would you even bring that up?
TERESE: The trust is gone, Brad. And now, so it seems, the chemistry too.
Imogen comes in and interrupts, whingeing about the Paige/Amber punch, the reading she has to do for Josh's case, and her revision. Terese suggests Brad go to see if Paige is okay, while she goes over Imogen's timetable with her.
Rain seems thoroughly impressed with every aspect of Amber's being, showering her with praise for living with her parents (‘a real family person – I love it!'), doing exams (‘and yet you've still got time to sit here with us – I love that!') and her photography ambitions (‘Wonderful! So creative and such a great means of self- expression').
RAIN: He has a talent for finding the beauty in everything around him. Like you.
Rain asks when the wedding is, and Daniel says they haven't set a date – Rain is surprised to learn Amber hasn't even met Scott and Charlene yet.
RAIN: They'll love you. Charlene especially. She's the tough one.
RAIN: She never really had the imagination to understand where I was coming from, but she'll love you.
Brad has come in to check on Paige after her ‘fight', and again she protests that the punch was accidental. Brad says all siblings fight, but that it will blow over. Paige doesn't think so, and is feeling like she doesn't fit in with her new family, just as she didn't with her adoptive family.
BRAD: Families – they're messy, alright. And they're annoying, and never straightforward. But it doesn't mean you give up on them.
PAIGE: Even if I'm banging my head against a brick wall?
Brad tells Paige to persevere, because nothing good ever came easy.
As Brad comes in, Terese is helping Imogen find a solution to balancing her packed study schedule with the work she needs to do for Josh's case. Terese points out that getting up half an hour earlier would help her claw back some time – and thus satisfied, Imogen scampers off upstairs to colour- code her new schedule.
Once she's gone, Terese suggests she and Brad should do the same – schedule in some ‘talk time', like how things were before. But Brad points out how busy they are looking after the kids' interests at the moment, and thinks they need to concentrate on that before they give their relationship the attention it needs. Terese looks miffed.
Daniel, Paul, Amber and Rain are discussing what to eat, but Amber announces she's going home for dinner – she says it's fine for Daniel to stay, though. Rain goes OTT again, saying how wonderful it's been to meet Amber.
RAIN: I'm so happy that the universe has brought you and Daniel together.
AMBER: … Thanks.
As Daniel walks Amber outside, he checks to make sure that she's okay with Rain turning up, saying he had no idea that she was coming. Amber insists it's fine, but that it's just ‘really weird'. They kiss, and Amber leaves.
Back at the table, Paul asks Rain what her plans are now she's homeless. She explains she's inherited a lot of money from her late aunt, and is looking to set up a new community. She claims it's ‘just fluke' she landed up in Erinsborough, but says she's on the look- out for a suitable site, which she's going to call ‘New Eden'.
RAIN: I don't suppose you'd be interested in joining me?
RAIN: Oh, that's right. You're more into the penthouse these days.
But Daniel insists he's not a sell- out, saying that he and Amber had been living in his car up until recently. Rain is very impressed with this, and asks where they were camped. He describes the location, and they go to order food.
Amber comes in to find Matt, Lauren, Paige and Bailey grinning at her eerily. It turns out Paige is treating them all to takeaway, to thank them for welcoming her to their home. She again tells Amber that the punch was an accident, and Amber says she shouldn't have gone off at Paige, commenting that takeaway with the family is ‘better than hanging out with Daniel's ex- girlfriend Rain'.
MATT: That's not actually her name, is it?
AMBER: Mm- hm. She's really beautiful, and magnetic, and pretty much the love of his life.
PAIGE: Until he met you.
But Amber admits she and Daniel had a pretty big row about Rain the last time her name came up.
AMBER: And now he's at the Waterhole having dinner with her.
PAIGE: What a cow!
AMBER: I just don't know how worried I should be.
PAIGE: Worrying is a waste of time. You and Daniel are rock- solid.
Daniel has drafted in a load of workmen to start work on converting the radio station into a bar. Paul questions him about Rain, remarking that she seems very charming.
DANIEL: Yeah, she can when she wants to be.
Daniel and Amber's Former Campsite
Rain has come to check out the land that Daniel was camping on. She makes a phone cal.
RAIN: My name's Rain Taylor. Hi – I'd like to make an appointment to meet with the mayor, Mr Paul Robinson.
Daniel is increasingly unresponsive to Paul's questioning.
PAUL: Well, according to your mum and dad she really stuffed you around.
PAUL: So it can't have been that easy seeing her again?
DANIEL: Yeah. Which is why it's good she's only passing through.
PAUL: So why exactly did you two break up?
DANIEL: I don't want to talk about it, Uncle P. It's ancient history. She'll be gone in a couple of days, and I'll never have to see her again.
Daniel and Amber's Former Campsite
Rain is still on the phone.
RAIN: If you could let Mr Robinson know that I'd like to discuss the purchase of some council land? Actually, I'm standing on it right now. It's exactly what I'm looking for.
