Breakfast time. Matt asks Lauren when Kathy's going to be arriving for her visit. Lauren's not sure, but hopes she calls ahead so they have time to discuss it with Amber and Bailey. Matt points out that they'll need to let the Willises know too. Matt suggests they get everyone together tonight and work out what to do. But at that moment, they hear Amber letting Kathy in at the front door!

AMBER: Look who I found outside.
KATHY: Hello, family!

Lauren doesn't look thrilled to see her mother.

No 24
Paige gets a surprise visit from Ethan, who has just flown down from Adelaide. He says he ran Kathy's name by their parents, but that it meant nothing to them.

No 32
Amber has gone to school, and Matt informs Kathy that she's just missed Bailey as well.

KATHY: You weren't angry about the telescope?
LAUREN: You don't have to buy the kids gifts.
KATHY: I want to.
LAUREN: What I'm saying is, you should have a relationship with them, but it shouldn't be based in material things. That's why I asked you here.
KATHY: I'm happy you asked me. I've missed you.

No 24
Ethan and Paige are confused about Kathy, as their parents always made it seem as if Paige's adoption was above board. Paige says there's too much that doesn't add up, however.

No 32
Matt informs Kathy that Amber and Bailey don't yet know the house is now in their names, and she agrees she won't tell them about it. Lauren says they haven't spoken to Brad and Terese yet about her arrival, but says she's sure Terese won't mind Kathy staying at Lassiter's.

No 24
Ethan suggests Paige should tell everyone who she is to make life easier.

PAIGE: I need to know what I'm up against. The full story.

She says she doesn't have a plan yet, but needs to get to work on it. Ethan says she might want to work fast, as his wasn't the only taxi to arrive in the street just now.

No 32
Lauren needs to head to work, and hesitates when Kathy asks if she'd mind her coming along - before eventually agreeing. They leave Matt to it.

Erinsborough High School
Amber is still receiving secret messages from Daniel via the Crash Words game. He sends one saying: 'No pressure. I know you're trying to find a way to tell him.' Josh creeps up on her, and sees at least the username on the message, Scoop24, asking who it is. Amber claims it's just a friend from school, and suggests she and Josh go for a walk at lunchtime, as they haven't talked properly in ages. He agrees.

Susan appears and asks Amber to go over to the Waterhole; she's promised to send someone to collect all the artwork from the exhibition. Imogen, who is earwigging, volunteers, but Susan says it's more appropriate that Amber goes, as school captain. Josh offers to go too, to help with the heavy lifting.

SUSAN: That's true, actually. Yeah, okay. Thanks Josh. And well-played!

Josh is thrilled he gets to skip class and spend time with Amber, and hugs her. She looks uncomfortable.

Harold's Store
Paige is on the phone to Ethan, telling him to stay indoors - her housemates are out all day so he shouldn't run into anyone. Terese turns up and thinks Paige seems distracted, but she claims she just didn't sleep well. At that moment, Lauren and Kathy come in, to Terese's shock. As usual, Kathy pronounces Terese's name wrong. Lauren says she'd been meaning to call Terese to let her know Kathy was in town to see the kids, but that it was a last-minute thing. Terese manages to grit her teeth and keep smiling despite the tension, as Kathy says she's not sure how long she'll be here, but would like to stay at the hotel.

LAUREN: If that's okay with you?
TERESE: Well I'm not about to turn down business, am I?

Terese makes a swift exit.

KATHY: Delightful as always.

Lauren introduces Kathy to Paige, who has been watching the exchange with interest.

PAIGE: It's nice to meet you.
KATHY: Long black, thanks.

Paige gives Kathy an evil glare as she sits down.

The Waterhole
Amber and Josh arrive to pick up the artwork from the exhibition. She tells him it's nice to spend some time alone, as she feels they haven't really connected lately.

AMBER: And there's something we really need to talk about.

Terese comes in and interrupts, asking Amber if she knew Kathy was in town.

TERESE: Delightful as ever.

Daniel turns up, and Terese asks him to help Amber and Josh shift the exhibits. Amber's about to object, but Josh remarks that Daniel has come to his aid again, thanking him once more for convincing Sue Parker not to sue him. Desperate not to get stuck with Josh and Amber, Daniel claims he's too busy to help, but Terese insists they can't do it alone.

TERESE: Besides, look at it this way. It's a lovely opportunity for the three of you to hang out.

They amusingly begin with a heart-shaped sculpture, a worried Amber visible through the centre as the boys begin to lift it on either side.

Harold's Store
Paige asks how Lauren's feeling with Kathy back in town. She admits she's a bit overwhelmed, and Paige encourages her to talk to Kathy and discuss their issues. Paige admits Bailey said it had something to do with Lauren's missing daughter.

LAUREN: Oh, you don't know the half of it.

Lauren says she and Kathy will talk eventually, but in the meantime asks Paige to take out Kathy's lunch order. As Paige puts the bowl down, it tips Kathy's drink over, soaking her and the papers she's working on!

KATHY: Silly girl!

Paige apologises, and goes to clear it up, but Kathy tells her she's making it worse, and decides to head back to the hotel to get changed. Paige then tells Lauren she left the heater on at home, and asks if she can dash out for a break.

Erinsborough High School
In the classroom, Brad is teaching a lesson to Year 12 about empowerment and productivity, including Imogen and Hayley. The kids are visibly bored, so he livens it up a bit.

BRAD: Kind of reminds me of the time I almost got eaten by a shark.

The extras gasp.

BRAD: If I hadn't have learned to surf, I wouldn't have caught the wave that got me out of there, and I wouldn't be here today.

This rather neglects to consider the fact that if he hadn't learned to surf, he probably wouldn't have got into shark-infested waters in the first place - but in any case, the fact Brad's a surfer has piqued Hayley's curiosity. Imogen looks increasingly concerned.

HAYLEY: So, Mr Willis.
BRAD: Please, call me Brad. I think it's okay just for this class.
HAYLEY: Brad. What's the biggest wave you've surfed?
BRAD: The biggest wave? Okay, well I did take on a ten-metre giant at Bells Beach once. I got pummelled, and my board was broken in two, and I ended up with a severe concussion.
IMOGEN: Excuse me - what does this have to do with the six pillars of human development?

But Hayley, evidently taken with Brad, continues to ask him questions about his surfing.

HAYLEY: Do you travel a lot to go surfing, Brad?
BRAD: Not as much as I used to. I'd love to go to Cuba.

(But by implication, he's Never Been to Cuba™.) Imogen rolls her eyes, as Brad witters on about surfing some more.

Lassiter's Complex
Josh and Daniel are loading sculptures into a van belonging to the Lassiter's Corporate Fleet™. Josh asks after Paul; Daniel says he's 'getting there, slowly'. He admits he's not much into his job, but says Paul would be even more unhappy if he quit.

JOSH: You're like the nicest person on the planet!

Well, hell, Josh, why not just kiss him and make this love triangle really interesting?

Josh spies a framed painting of a horse amongst the art, and says he'd buy it for Amber if he had the money, given how she loves horses. But Daniel thinks she'd prefer the abstract number next door.

DANIEL: It's emotional, and dramatic - really makes you feel something.
JOSH: Yeah, makes me feel like throwing up! No offence, mate, but I think I know what Amber likes.
DANIEL: Yeah, yeah. You're probably right.

When Amber shows up, of course she gushes about the painting Daniel chose, saying how much she'd love to have it in her house. Josh looks upset, and puts down the horse painting quickly!

Paige moans to Ethan about how up herself Kathy was when she spilled coffee on her, and how she was snotty to Terese too.

ETHAN: What were you expecting?
PAIGE: I dunno. Someone with a glimmer of a conscience, maybe?

Paige says her first instincts about people are usually bang on. But Ethan thinks Paige is distracting herself with Kathy, because she's afraid to tell Lauren who she really is. He adds that if she leaves it too long, the families will be more likely to react badly. Paige is still uncertain, but Ethan suggests they both up sticks and go to Ibiza for a year, so she can work out what she really wants.

PAIGE: I can't leave.
ETHAN: You can't stay either. You're not thinking straight. Then, in a year's time, if you still want to be a part of Lauren and Brad's lives, you can come back and be honest with them. By which time, everyone will have forgotten how crazily you've acted!

Paige is worried about missing her chance now Kathy's here, but Ethan says he's leaving in three hours, and thinks she should come with him.

The Waterhole
Josh, Daniel and Amber admire the collage that Lauren and Amber made. Terese agrees it's the best of the bunch. Josh says he knows nothing about art, or Amber's taste in it, giving Daniel a self-deprecating glance - but says he just 'gets' the mural, and particularly likes the photo which is ostensibly of him and Amber holding hands.

JOSH: I don't remember you taking the photo of our hands, though.

Daniel and Amber look guilty as hell. Amber makes an excuse about Josh not noticing her taking the photo - and Daniel makes an excuse to leave.

Harold's Store
Lauren fills Matt in on Kathy's encounter with Terese earlier. Kathy comes in, pleased that she's managed to check in at the hotel without bumping into Terese again. She promises to be the model of diplomacy when she comes across Brad, too.

Paige comes in, and is surprised when Kathy is nice as pie with her, apologising for losing her temper earlier and remarking that she has a lovely name. The papers that got the coffee spilt on them have dried out, and Kathy explains that they're documents relating to her plans to expand her homewares business into Victoria.

LAUREN: Opening a store, here?!

Paige offers to print Kathy out a clean copy, and seizing her chance to get closer to the situation, adds that she's really interested in Kathy's line of business. She offers to do any help or research that Kathy needs. Lauren sings Paige's praises as an employee.

KATHY: I can't promise to offer you a job.
PAIGE: Oh, no, I'm not expecting one. But I think I could learn a lot from you, Kathy.
KATHY: How can I say no to that?

Erinsborough High School
Brad is still bragging about his water sports exploits, and Imogen again requests that they get back to real topic of the lesson.

BRAD: It's all part of the lesson, and some people are interested in it.
IMOGEN: No, I can assure you they're not.
HAYLEY: Speak for yourself!
IMOGEN: You're supposed to be teaching us stuff. Not telling us surfing stories and tales of the sea.

Brad tells Imogen he won't be spoken to like that, but she persists in slamming his lesson.

BRAD: I'm the teacher. If you don't like the style or pace of my teaching, well I'm sorry but -
IMOGEN: Style of teaching?! What does that involve - cramming for today's lesson at breakfast this morning?
BRAD: Imogen!
IMOGEN: He's only a page ahead of us. We may as well be teaching ourselves!

BRAD: You can't just walk out of school in the middle of the day!
IMOGEN: Can't I?!

She marches out.

No 24
Paige comes in and announces to Ethan that she'll be helping Kathy to set up her new homewares store. This, she says, will give her a chance to get close to Kathy, find out more about the adoption, and work out who was in the right and who was in the wrong. On that basis, she'll decide whether or not to reveal her identity to the families. As for Kathy, Paige says that unless she discovers new information, she deserves to pay for what she did.

ETHAN: How?
PAIGE: I dunno. Maybe make sure this new business of hers fails?
ETHAN: Okay, you're really scaring me now.
PAIGE: Don't worry. I'm not gonna break the law or anything.

Paige hugs Ethan goodbye, saying she might join him in Ibiza, after Kathy's had what's coming to her.

Lassiter's / The Waterhole
Amber shows up at the darkroom to see Daniel. She apologises for lying to Josh about the photo, and making Daniel feel uncomfortable - she just hasn't had a chance to tell Josh the truth yet. As they speak, Josh gazes at the collage in the Waterhole.

DANIEL: I don't like the person I'm becoming. The way I feel about you, it is so real and strong. And this just mars it. I don't wanna sneak around anymore.
AMBER: Neither do I! I tried to tell him.

Josh homes in on the 'hands' photograph in the collage.

DANIEL: I know it's tough. But the longer we leave it, the tougher it'll get.
AMBER: Yep, you're right. I've got to tell him.

They hug. Meanwhile, Josh compares his own hand to the male hand in the photo, and looks suspicious.
