The Willis family are discussing Brad's new job over breakfast, with Josh and Imogen wondering what to call him.
BRAD: Well, I'm excited. I'm just a bit nervous.
TERESE: Josh, remind your dad what he used to say to you when you were swimming.
JOSH: 'Nerves are good' blah blah blah.
TERESE: Nerves *are* good. It means you want to do well.
Terese queries his choice of shirt, and he goes off to change.
Paige is looking at the "Kathy Carpenter Homewares" website. A gratuitously bare- chested Mark comes over, and is surprised at her browsing choice...
PAIGE: What can I say? I'm a sucker for ornamental basketware.
She invites him to go for a run, then scowls at the picture of Kathy on the homepage.
Paige meets Brad on her run. She comments that she hasn't seen him at the gym, and he says he got fired. She's sorry that her behaviour didn't help. She asks if he's got a new job. Imogen and Josh arrive and tell her that he's Erinsborough High's newest teacher. She says he doesn't seem like a teacher type.
PAIGE: Are you really that desperate?
BRAD: Maybe I am. That's what happens when you're unemployed.
Imogen scowls at Paige as the Willeses walk off.
Matt finds Bailey trying to fill in a section on "extra- curricular activities" for his Star Camp application. Matt suggests his stargazing. Bailey says it's not accredited.
BAILEY: That's just me out in the backyard in my PJs.
Matt says that when he was at Police Academy, he and some of his mates had a "Book Club", which was mostly discussions on the sports pages, but it gave him something to put on his applications.
BAILEY: Are you trying to convince me to start a dodgy astronomy club?
MATT: No. I'm trying to convince you to start an *actual* astronomy club with the kids from school.
Josh and Imogen say they have to go, and Brad comments to Lauren that they have been trying to give him the slip. On the way out, Sonya asks Imogen if she can do more shifts at the nursery, and Imogen agrees. Lauren and Brad talk about his job, and he tells her that Paige says he isn't a teacher. Lauren says she doesn't think he'd do anything unless his heart was in it and he's got a chance to make a difference. He thanks her for the encouragement.
Brad is talking to Susan about some new initiatives, and one of the girls (Hayley) comments that he is a hottie. Josh asks if she's serious and Imogen feels sick. Then Susan says his name and the girl realises who he is.
Mark comes in. He comments that she seemed fired up, and asks if it was anything to do with Brad. She says she put her foot in it, so he assures her that everyone has those days, and checks that she doesn't need to go and bash something. She says she's fine. Then Lauren asks her what she thought of the exhibition. When she says she hasn't been, Lauren asks Margie to cover, and off they go…
Paige is impressed by the work exhibited. They come to Lauren and Amber's piece. Lauren starts talking about Amber, Matt, Bailey… Then Paige tells Lauren about the telescope. Lauren goes home.
Hayley tells Brad that she really enjoyed his class. Susan comes in to talk about some of the ideas he floated earlier, and says that can discuss a "park run" later. Bailey comes along and asks for permission to start a school astronomy club. Susan says it's a great idea.
Lauren drops a plate, and Paige apologises for telling her about Bailey, or even letting Bailey leave the telescope in the first place. Lauren blames Kathy, but Paige says at least she cares about her grandchildren.
Bailey is totally fed- up as obviously no- one has signed up. Alice comes in and he expects her to mock.
ALICE: People mocked Copernicus too, but look who had the last laugh there.
Bailey asks her how much she knows about astronomy, and she tells him his poster is wrong as apparently Jupiter's southern hemisphere is anticyclonic. Bailey says he's only doing it to apply to Space Camp… as is Alice.
BAILEY: So the chances of either one of us being accepted from the same school are…
ALICE: Astronomical? You got that part right.
Bailey tells his father what's happened. Alice is a high achiever in everything.
MATT: You are my son, so I'm always going to be a little biased, but I say this as objectively as I can, without a shadow of doubt in my mind. You are the biggest nerd I know.
Alice presents Bailey with an activity agenda for the club. Bailey says as president, he decides what to do. She asks who made him president. He says it's his club, as it was his idea. She adds a business item: election of club president. Bailey says it will end in a tie.
ALICE: Let's see.
BAILEY: What does that even mean?
Harold's - outside
Mark is sitting on his own, when he sees Sonya going past. They wave. Paige comments that it's sad, and Mark says he's glad Sonya and Toadie are making time but he misses her company.
PAIGE: No I meant sad pathetic.
Mark says they were friends, and he used to feed Nell. Paige says he has to come out with her for some grown up fun. Seriously, I'd prefer to feed Nell.
Bailey wants to arrange a time to use the telescope, so Paige admits she told Lauren. She says that Lauren wasn't angry, so he might not have to send it back.
Bailey tells Lauren that he didn't want to upset her. She asks if it was his only concern. He says he still has the box, and goes to pack it up. Lauren tells him to keep it, especially since it's supporting his passion. He comments that Matt will be relieved - and she's surprised he knew. She asks if it's a good telescope and Bailey says it's perfect
Matt confesses about the telescope, then realises that Lauren already knew. He's surprised that she's not annoyed, because they all know how she feels about her mother. She says it's causing trouble in the family, so she's thinking of inviting her to stay.
LAUREN: Well, it sounds strange, but it was actually something Paige said.
MATT: Well "strange" and Paige do often go hand in hand.
LAUREN: Yeah, we should cut her some slack. She does come from a fairly odd family.
Lauren says that Paige helped her see that Kathy was trying, which was more than her family did.
Mark and Paige are chatting about their night out when Lauren arrives to pick up something for dessert. She tells Paige that Kathy is coming to Erinsborough. Paige asks if she's forgiven her. Lauren says no, but she's putting her feelings aside for the sake of the kids. Paige rings Ethan and asks him to run Kathy's name past their parents.
