Georgia and Kyle arrive back to find Kate on the sofa; they went to the city to watch a game. Georgia asks her friend how she's doing and Kate claims it was just a diet thing. Georgia wants to know the details, but Kate tells her not to pry. Changing the subject, Kate congratulates her friend on the diagnosis she made at work (Karl let slip).
GEORGIA: Just the usual, might have saved a life; no biggie.
KATE: No biggie! You should be a doctor.
GEORGIA: I am not grumpy enough to be a doctor!
Kyle returns from the bedroom with Georgia's jacket and she heads home. Kyle admits he's surprised Kate is still up, but she reassures him she is fine and he heads off to the bar.
Kyle has joined Sheila and Chris. Sheila is outraged that Paul didn't accept their friendship gesture, but Chris and Kyle aren't really surprised. Sheila was impressed by Paul's apartment though and suggests Kyle takes a look. Kyle points out that he isn't about to get an invite up to the apartment. Sheila decides it's time to head home. Before she leaves, Kyle asks if she'd talk to Kate for him. He knows something is upsetting her, but she won't talk to him or Georgia and Paul isn't one to talk to. Sheila agrees to give it a go.
Sheila arrives back to find Kate still on the sofa. She tells her she missed a good show at Paul's but Kate's already had an update from Mason. Sheila explains to Kate that Kyle told her she was upset. Kate explains she was just a bit emotional, but she's alright now. Sheila reminds Kate that if she wants someone to talk to, that's not a friend her own age, she's happy to listen; she is a bar lady after all! Sheila wishes her goodnight and heads for the bedroom, but just as she gets up to leave, Kate reveals she's got ovarian failure. She never really thought about, or wanted to have children.
KATE: Now it's all I can think about. What if I do want to start a family one day, and now I can't. That choice has been taken away from me. I don't get to choose that for myself anymore.
Sheila reminds Kate that anything is possible; if she wants to have kids, she'll find a way. Medicine is advancing all the time and there are options of adoption and fostering available too. She reassures Kate that she is not alone, and she is quite happy to sit and chat all night.
Imogen arrives to find Mason sitting alone. She jokes that he's been stood up, which doesn't go down well. Apparently he was waiting for Kate, but she's not been feeling too well.
MASON: I'm not going to talk to you about it
IMOGEN: Because we dated?
MASON: Because you're annoying.
Mason admits that Kate hasn't been replying to his texts or phone messages and he isn't sure what to do next. Imogen warns him that it sounds like he's about to be dumped, but that just winds Mason up even more. He feels like he's being left out of something but he doesn't know what.
Next morning, Brad and Josh are in a training session when Hudson turns up. Josh isn't impressed at seeing Hudson, but Brad tells him to concentrate on his swimming and ignore him.
Later, Josh and Brad are grabbing breakfast. Josh can't believe that Hudson is allowed to swim again. Brad tells his son to stop focussing on the one mistake that Hudson made and the importance is to focus on his own swimming; his times were not great today. Hudson arrives and comes over to say hello, but is welcomed with a frosty reception. Hudson explains he went back to Sydney to clear his head and sort himself out, but now he's back and ready to start swimming again. He explains he's looking for a new coach and asks if they know anyone. Brad seems somewhat interested with the idea, but Josh can't believe anyone would want to take on a cheat. Hudson is prepared to accept the error he makes; he knows he did wrong and is ready to make a fresh start. Brad is shocked by his son's attitude.
Kate hangs up on Mason who is still trying to get hold of her. Sheila encourages her to have a quiet day at home. Paul arrives and is disappointed that Kate wasn't the first to come and visit him in his flat last night. Kate apologises that she was unexpectedly ill and Sheila explains that all of them coming to visit wasn't Kate's idea. Paul gives Kate a key to his exclusive lift before being called away by Terese to start their meeting.
Mason catches up with Kate, she apologises for leaving him with Paul, but he tells her not to worry; they had a fun night in the end. He suggests that they catch up later and go and meet Paul. She doesn't seem overly sure on the idea, but agrees and heads off to class.
Hudson thanks Chris for agreeing to meet with him. He explains that he spent some time thinking whilst at his parents, and decided that swimming is what he wants to do. His dad told him to stop feeling sorry for himself and get back to the pool, so that's why he's back. Chris is pleased, but Hudson explains it's going to be hard to find a new coach given his past. Chris believes he'll be able to do it. Hudson thanks him for the support and admits he thought about him whilst he was away. He's keen to meet up for lunch, but Chris doesn't want to go back in to a relationship and asks that they just remain friends. Hudson agrees.
Number 22 Backyard
Terese catches Brad and Josh having lunch. She is glad she caught both of them, as the West Waratah Star would like to offer Josh the sponsorship. Josh is amazed and Terese explains that they'd like to meet with Brad that afternoon to go through the details. They embrace a family hug.
Brad meets Howard from the West Waratah Star who hands over a jacket for Josh, complete with branding. Howard leaves him with a contract and asks that Brad takes a look, sign it and return it to him.
Brad heads over to chat with Chris and Kyle at the bar. He explains how Hudson has quit from the West Waratah Star and he was the one who suggested they took on Josh. Chris thanks Brad, who heads off. It gets Chris thinking again, but he admits to Kyle it would be too messy to start dating Hudson again.
Chris runs into Hudson, and lets him know he's proud of him for giving up the sponsorship and nominating Josh in his place. Hudson admits it was nothing, but Chris feels it was a big deal. Hudson asks if he's changed his mind about a date, but Chris doesn't reply and heads off.
Sheila reassures Kyle that Kate is feeling much better. Kyle is surprised that Sheila knows what's going on, but Sheila won't spill the details. At that moment, Kate arrives so Sheila sends Kyle off to get another drink.
Kyle bumps into Hudson on his way into the store and mentions how he seems to be in Chris's good books at the moment. Hudson is pleased to hear it and asks Kyle if he has a chance getting back together with Chris. Kyle suggests he makes a big gesture to Chris.
Kate admits school has been a good distraction for her. They're going to visit Paul later to try and make amends. Sheila suggests she cooks her dinner that evening so that they can start looking through the list of specialists Karl has suggested for her. Kate claims she has lots of work to do and is clearly reluctant to talk about her condition any further. She grabs her bag and heads off explaining to Sheila they can talk about it later.
Paul's Penthouse Suite
Paul welcomes Kate and Mason who are very impressed by his new penthouse suite. Kate apologies for her behaviour the previous day but Paul tells his niece not to worry. Paul is excited to tell Kate he has set up a room for her, if she should wish to move in. Paul mentions to Mason he would be welcome to stay too, but doesn't agree to Mason's request for room service. While Kate goes to check out the room, Mason warns him that Robbo Slade is back in town. Paul doesn't want him anywhere near Kate. Mason reckons Kate is fine, but warns Paul to give his staff the heads up; Robbo is known for getting involved in anything slightly dodgy; anything that will make him some money. Kate returns, highly impressed with the flat. Paul makes a toast to the three of them.
Chris returns home to find music playing and meal set out on the table. Wondering who is in his house, Hudson jumps out from behind him. Chris isn't impressed that he broke into his house, or used the spare key. He yells at Hudson for the pills messing with his brain. Hudson grabs his keys and heads out.
