Lucas and Vanessa's flat
Steph comes to see Lucas, asking about the self- help book, which Lucas says was helpful. He tells her he's seen Karl, and Steph says she's fine, whatever Karl said. He says that they haven't talked for a while - not important stuff like Adam. He suggest that he could talk to Dan and arrange a catch up. She shakes her head: she's accepted she can't be part of his life. The same goes for Charlie. They're both better off without her. She adds that she's got to get herself sorted first. He's sure she will. She asks if it was hard to tell Vanessa about his past. He says they were mates first, so they talked about a lot of things. Steph says it would be a tricky conversation if she started dating.
LUCAS: I don't ask too much about Vanessa's exes. Some things better not to know, I reckon.
STEPH: What, even kids and marriages?
LUCAS: Kids, one: marriages, nil. That's all I need to know.
Callum is practising some smooth chat up lines and how he's going to kiss Rani, when Sonya and Toadie arrive home with Nell. Toadie asks an embarrassed Callum if he would like them to come back later. Toadie asks what's been happening. Callum asks why haven't they been checking their emails, then shudders, not wanting to know. Toadie asks about Rani: Callum says she's good, and explains he was practising for her play. Sonya asks about the Turners. Callum frowns.
Sonya finds Lauren in the garden and tells her she wanted to check she was OK.
LAUREN: Well, my husband's facing the sack, Mason might go to jail, Bailey might end up in juvie and Amber's had her heart torn out. How do think I am?
Sonya is apologetic, but Lauren tells her it's a bit late. Sonya asks if there's anything she can do. Lauren says she's done enough. Angrily, she says that she understands that Sonya had to dob Mason in, but she would have appreciated a heads up first. She walks off, saying she has a family to keep together.
Vanessa is asking Rani about the play. She explains that (the character) Rani has to choose between Sanjay, the boring one, and Raj, the dream guy. Rani was originally going to run away to dig wells for the poor in Sri Lanka and die of typhus... but now she's going to defy her family and marry Raj. Vanessa thinks she's made the right decision. Rani goes off to rehearsals. Steph comments on Rani's good mood, and Vanessa says it's better than social networking wars. They agree that you had to be more upfront in their day. Steph tells Vanessa she can go home to "hubby and bubs". While Vanessa's in the kitchen, Steph creates a Facebook account in the name Alek Pocoli (Vanessa's ex).
Sonya tells Toadie that Lauren walked off on her, because she holds her responsible for Mason being arrested. Toadie points out that Mason used their wedding as a cover for the robbery, but Sonya says if the situation were reversed, she would probably feel the same. Sonya's upset, because they were getting to be friends.
Rani is running the auditions for the Raj in the play, and calls Callum up first. He tells Bailey to watch and learn. He is dire. Rani avoids his kiss, and says that kissing is for rehearsals.
Steph tells Lucas they have a new promotion: if you "like" Harold's on Facebook, you can have a free coffee. He signs in, and finds a message from Alek asking him to tell Vanessa he's in town. Steph acts innocent, and agrees that Alek must have got mixed up.
Bailey is auditioning. He is much better than Callum, and he and Rani are just about to kiss when Callum shouts "Cut" and walks Bailey away.
RANI: Hang on, I'm the director.
CALLUM. Yeah, but kissing is for rehearsals.
She tells Bailey he did a great job, then tells everyone they did an equally great job. Rani goes out, leaving Bailey and Callum looking fed up.
Toadie remarks to Mason that Lauren is cut up about the situation with him and Matt and Bailey, and Mason says she is. Toadie says that Lauren had a go at Sonya earlier, and he points out that it wasn't Sonya's fault, it was because of what Mason had done. He broke the law, and Sonya shouldn't have to suffer.
Mason challenges Lauren about what she said to Sonya. Lauren says Sonya could have come to them first, or she could have thought about the consequences. Mason says it's not her fault.
LAUREN: She's the one who went to the police.
MASON And I'm the one who committed the crime.
Mason reminds her it's the same with Bailey and Matt. The only person who hadn't done anything wrong was Sonya. Lauren asks if that includes her. He says no. She says she never even noticed anything was going on with them. Now she's someone whose husband could lose his job. She bursts into tears, and adds that her two sons could go to jail. Mason tells her they'll get through it.
Vanessa and Patrick drop in to see Lucas. He tells Vanessa about the email from Alek, who claimed to be married to her. Vanessa asks what he said to him, and Lucas says he must have got mixed up. He sees her face, and asks if she's been married. She says it was a long time ago and she was 20.
LUCAS: Why didn't you tell me?
VANESSA: I would've. I would've, but it was just so long ago. It was stupid.
LUCAS: It's a marriage.
He asks if they're still in touch, and she says no. She asks him to come home and she'll explain it all, but he says coldly he has a lot of work and he could be a while.
Toadie asks Callum how the audition went. Callum says not as well as he hoped, but Rani has to give him the part because she's his girlfriend. Toadie suggests Callum should check with Rani first. There's a knock at the door. It's Lauren with a cake. She apologises to Sonya, and says she's going to need all her friends because the next couple of months will be tough. Sonya invites her to stay for a piece of her own cake.
Rani tells Ajay that Callum is expecting to get the lead role, but Bailey was much better. Ajay asks if there is some other part Callum could play - there's Sanjay, but he doesn't have many lines. Rani asks what Priya would have done. Ajay considers, then says she would have done what was best for the play. Rani nods.
Vanessa tells Sonya that she met Alek soon after she left school. They had a fling, her parents thought he was unsuitable, so they eloped and went to live with his family in Albania. It was a mistake, but it was two years before he agreed to an annulment. She was alone and had no money - that's why she had to do the photoshoot. Sonya urges her to tells Lucas. Vanessa is worried that he won't forgive her, but Sonya says he loves her.
Steph watches Lucas throwing something across the garage. She wants to know if he's OK. He says he's not sure of anything. Steph asks if he wants her to call Vanessa, but he says definitely not. She tells him to call if he needs anything, and she walks off looking pleased with herself.
Lucas and Vanessa's flat
Lucas wants to know why Vanessa never told him about her marriage. She says it was easier pretending it never happened. He asks why she didn't mention it during their engagement. She says her first marriage was about being young, wild and impetuous... and her second marriage would be different. He takes that to mean she never loved Alek. She says she was crazy about him.
LUCAS: Right, so you're saying this Alek guy is the big love of your life, and I'm, what, just Mr Reliable?
She says you can't compare the two, so Lucas says Mr Reliable is more boring and she's not into the relationship. She denies it, but he says he can't get married. He doesn't want to be the consolation prize after she gave up on real love a long time ago. The wedding's off.
