- Sonya being rushed into hospital

Hospital
Toadie and Callum sit on the bed shellshocked at what has just happened. Toadie thinks about how he imagined the birth to go - taking Nell home and being a perfect happy family.
Nell squirms and cries a bit, but neither of them notice. Eventually Callum wonders whether they should find out if there is any news. Georgia comes in to check on the with a juice and a coffee and says that Sonya is still in surgery. She reassures them that the doctors will tell them as soon as they know anything.
GEORGIA: They're good like that.
TOADIE: Yeah, when it's good news.
CALLUM: So if we don't hear anything, it's bad?
Georgia tells them it will be good news and everything will be fine, but Toadie doesn't want to hear it.
Harold's
Carmel finds Susan in the store getting some supplies for Toadie and Callum, she just wants to get to the hospital to be with them. Carmel tries to casually ask whether Karl will be working, she's concerned Susan might say something to him about what she told her last night. Susan says she has bigger things on her mind, but it might come up if she runs into him. Karl needs to know what he did was wrong.
CARMEL: Well you charging down there's not going to help.
SUSAN: I'm not charging anywhere. I'm just going to the hospital to support Toadie. Sonya being alright is all I care about right now.
Hospital
Carmel has joined Susan and straight away they bump into Karl who explains Sonya has suffered a post- partum haemorrhage. They won't know anything for a few more hours. They catch sight of Toadie and Susan goes to hug him while Carmel gives them some space. Susan wants to know whether Toadie has thought about taking Callum home, they haven't slept and they're not coping. She reminds him that Cal needs his dad to keep things together. Toad agrees.
Lassiters
Sophie is mopping by the lifts, but soon decides to take a break, leaving her mop and cleaning station in the reception, just as Uncle Paul the manager comes in. He tells her to put the things away and she tells him to do it himself. He reminds her that although he's her uncle at the hotel, he's her boss.
SOPHIE: What? And that means I'm supposed to respect you?
PAUL: Yeah damn right it does.
SOPHIE: And you really think you're someone who deserves respect?
PAUL: I'm not having this conversation here.
SOPHIE: Because you don't want people to know you did it with my best friend's mum?
[This starts to attact the attention of guests and staff]
(shouting) So it's okay to have an affair is it? And by the way it probably happened here in the hotel! Have fun if you stay in...
Paul gets his super angry face on and shouts at her to get to his office now. Sophie wonders if they did it in the office too. She refuses to go. Somehow she gets away without being sacked. Huh.
Hospital
Karl reluctantly goes to speak to Carmel who is sitting in the waiting area, but promptly ignores anything she has to say when he sees Susan. He asks how she's holding up, but she tries to give him a brush off. He tells her she doesn't always need to be the strong one. Carmel wonders whether someone should check if there's any news. I wonder whether doctors make a habit of not reporting when patients are fit and well/ have taken a turn for the worse. Karl goes to find out and Carmel tell Susan she doesn't have to ignore him. Susan worries about Sonya.
Number 30
Toadie and Callum arrive home to find Alex has been by to get the place ready for them (there's a pile of towels and a teddy bear on the table. Cal wants to know whether they've come home because Sonya's not going to be okay. (Surely they'd stay if that were the case...?) Toadie assures him that they haven't told him anything, they've just come back to get cleaned up and get something to eat.
TOADIE: I'm here with you mate.
CALLUM: She has to be okay.
TOADIE: She will be.
Hospital
Toadie and Callum arrive back at the hospital just in time to hear the news that Sonya is out of surgery and is going to be fine. They are hugely relieved.
Sonya is tired and groggy and it will be a few days until she's home depending on her recovery. Karl tells Toadie that he'll have to step up and fend for himself while Sonya recovers.
Toadie and Callum's first challenge is to change Nell's nappy using a cloth nappy - a material they have not practised with. In the other room, Georgia tries to reassure Sonya that the boys will be fiiine on their own and tells a heartwarming and soothing story about her friend's husband who let the baby roll of the changing table. Sonya is filled with fresh confidence.
Mission accomplished! The nappy is on and the family is reunitied at last. Everyone is perfect.
Hotel
Inexplicably after her rude and very public outburst, Paul is trying to buy Sophie off with a present in a green bag rather than sack her. Kate watches awkwardly as Paul tells Sophie that he never meant her to be hurt by any of it. Sophie thinks that if he seriously gave a stuff, he wouldn't have done it in the first place. Fair point.
Charlie's
Kate tracks down Paul wallowing in whiskey and misery. Unusually for Kate, she's not there to judge, just to check up on her uncle and tell him that Sophie's mood will blow over. Andrew brings his dad a refill, but Paul is fine, when has he ever been known to feel sorry for himself?
PAUL: Yeah, alright. At least this time I didn't get pushed of a building.
Kate points out that it's not like Priya broke his heart like Rebecca did (hmm, who broke whose heart there?) but Paul gives a look that says otherwise. You're surprised? So are Kate and Andrew.
KATE: Do you love her?
Paul pulls his "I've been so hurt in my stoney heart" face that means we're all supposed to sympathise. Andrew pulls a "huh, don't know what to say to that" face. As do the rest of us.
Ramsay Street
Sophie sits on the garden wall texting. Kate tells her that she can't hate Paul forever, sometimes things aren't what they seem and sometimes people make mistakes. Sophie thinks Paul knew exactly what he was doing and she doesn't really care how he feels now.
Kate reminds her sister of everything Uncle Paul did to help her when she was in rehab and asks her to go easy on him. Speak of the devil, Paul pulls up with Thai food, but Sophie clearly isn't interested.
Hospital
Susan is standing lemon like next to the random coffee vendor that must be putting Harold's out of business. Karl emerges from the building and there is an awkward exchange made even more awkward by the arrival of Carmel. Karl beats a hastey retreat and Susan is outraged at his unbelievable behaviour in failing to acknowledge Carmel's presence. Carmel wants Susan to let it go...but like that's going to happen.
Inside the Rebecchi boys are on top of things getting organised at home and hospital. Before they go, there's just one more thing. Toadie produces a ring box with a proper engagement shiney ring in it.
TOADIE: I've been waiting for the perfect moment. This day has been the scariest day of my life, but this ring is about the future and we still have plenty of days ahead of us.
Aw. A happy family moment.
Number 28
(NB Summer makes a brief and somewhat random appearance in this scene.)
Karl arrives home and Susan is hot on his heals. She tells him that he has really stepped over the mark trying to make a move on her sister.
SUSAN: Don't play dumb, Carmel told me everything.
KARL: She told you everything? I think you're going to have to explain...
Susan tells him and Karl is outraged.
KARL: I did not make a pass at her! She made a pass at me! She came to my bedroom while I was getting ready for bed with a bottle of wine and two glasses. Susan, I turned her down, but I didn't say anything for obvious reasons. That's why I've been awkward around her.
SUSAN: You're saying my sister is lying to me?
KARL: Well apparently, yes. And interestingly you believe her version.
Karl assures Susan that he has no romantic feelings for Carmel and reminds her that he's had a really big day. Susan doesn't know what to say, so she leaves.
