Number 26/Dial a Kyle
We begin this week with a musical montage. Kyle wakes up on the sofa and goes to see if Jade is in her room but she's out pounding the miles, coming to a stop at his yard. He now debates whether to call her or not but decides on brekkie instead and likewise after a brief stop, she starts running again, ultimately returning to #26.
It's very awkward between the two of them before Jade asks if he's reconsidered what he said last night but he hasn't. She now demands to know if it's her fault but he explains that it's him, he just can't do it.
KYLE: I can't live apart from you like this, not knowing if one year is going to turn into two years, then two years into five years or if you are ever going to come back at all. I need you here.
She tries to say that it doesn't matter where they live, they will still have a connection to the other. That doesn't appease Kyle; he wants her here with him.
Its Rhys' turn to give Karl advice on his internet date when he spies what he was up to (having a I'm conversation with Olivia) but in the end Karl comes up with his own plan for their next date – he's going to do a Heston Blumenthal style meal.
“Karl?!” Chris says when he spots him wheeling out the welding equipment from the garage! Chris sees though his lies (doing some repairs to the men's shed) and instead reveals what it's for – to blow torch his tuna steaks! That revelation means he doesn't get the welding equipment but instead Chris gives him a mini blow torch and wants to accompany him back to #28 to see how it's used!
Jade unloads her relationship woes on her sister, who doesn't exactly seem very sympathetic; her tuppenceworth is to see it from Kyle's perspective, that he wants his family/girlfriend around him.
JADE: Do you think we should break up?
SONYA: I think that you need to consider what's important to you. Sometimes in life you can't have everything. Sometimes you have to choose.
Jade returns from her chat with her sister with an announcement – she's not going to LA, she's going to stay in Erinsborough with him. He's stunned with her sacrifice and when she confirms to him that she is happy, they celebrate with a hug but we can see from Kyle's face he's not exactly ecstatic!
Chris is most impressed with Karl's plans for his date with Olivia.
Olivia arrives for her date with Karl and is amazed at him going a Heston Blumenthal style lunch!
Jade calls the US to break the news to Rick that she isn't coming back and offers him the chance to buy her out if he wants to expand her concept to the rest of the US. He isn't exactly pleased with Jade's decision by the sounds of their conversation and neither is someone else who's listening in unseen too – Kyle.
Kyle re- enters the house and plonks himself on the steps leading into the house. He doesn't look a happy chappy!
Olivia can't get out of the house quick enough after her meal with Karl and even he eventually realises he went a tad OTT and suggests another date to redeem himself but Olivia doesn't want that and says goodbye to him.
Jade is busy cancelling her LA appointments from her phone and instead planning things that they can do together when eventually he tells her to stop.
KYLE: You can't do this.
JADE: (puzzled) Do what?
KYLE: Stay here when you want to be in LA.
She reiterates that she doesn't want to be in LA but he thinks otherwise, especially after overhearing her conversation to Rick. “I choose you,” she pleads but he doesn't want her to lose out on the LA offer as she may never get another chance like that. “I love you,” she tells him but he explains that if she stays she will regret it
KYLE: And then you'll wake up one day and realise that you hate me for it. Eventually you would and I don't want that to happen to us. Look, well stay in touch. Who knows, maybe I'll want to move to LA one day.
Kyle is barely holding it together as he wipes the tears from Jade's face as he says, “this is the right thing to do.”
JADE: I know.
(They hug each other)
KYLE: I love you Jade.
JADE: I love you too.
And Jade's tears are still flowing as she tells her sister of their conversation. Sonya offers her a room at #30 so she won't be in the same house as Kyle and Jade promises to think about it. Giving her some space, Sonya leaves and Jade calls the US to talk to Rick.
Kyle spots Jade with her luggage and thinks she's moving to #30 but she breaks it that she is actually heading to the airport because she can't be around him and doesn't want to delay the inevitable. He volunteers to take her to the airport but she replies that Sonya is taking her and tidying up the loose ends for her too.
As she says her byes to Bossy, Kyle is barely holding the tears at bay and tells her to have a good flight. “Take care of yourself Kyle,” is her reply before she gathers her luggage and exits the house, with Kyle watching every step from the window.
It's farewell hugs with Sonya and Rhys too when he spots them on his return home. “I think I might miss you,” are Rhys' parting words for her along with instructions to “knock ‘em dead!”
Rhys heads up the stairs and we see that Kyle is still glued to his spot, severely struggling to stop himself from breaking down.
SONYA: Are you sure you want to do this?
Number 26/Ramsay Street
Rhys enters the house to question if Kyle is just going to let Jade go permanently to LA. While outside Jade puts her bags into the rear of the car and apologises to Sonya for missing the baby shower and the birth. Sonya replies that she'll just have to plan a trip to America as they have their farewell (street) hug.
Back inside the house, Rhys is trying to prompt Kyle into some last minute heroic deed to go and stop Jade leaving but he remains rooted to the spot as the Mitchell sisters get into the car. It eventually works though, because seconds later he swiftly moves to put Bossy's lead on. Kyle is too late though, by the time he gets to the driveway, Sonya is pulling out of the street.
