Jade explains to Sonya about Kyle thinking she was cheating on him, but says it's all good now, and that Kyle's really happy for her and supportive regarding LA.
Kyle sulks as Rhys comes in. Kyle explains Jadehasn't cheated, but has been offered another year in LA. Rhys asks if they're discussing it, but Kyle remarks that Jade's already said yes.
Jade justifies her decision to Sonya, saying the time will fly by.
Kyle explains to Rhys that he hates having to count down the days between seeing Jade. He agrees with Rhys that he can't insist Jade knock back the opportunity, however, so says he'll just have to deal with it.
Rhys is putting out his wheelie- bin when he sees Vanessa pulling up in her car outside No 32. He watches with contempt as she takes a wedding dress from her boot and walks into the house.
Kate turns up to talk to Rhys. She explains her Year 9 pupils are soon choosing their electives for next year; she'd organised an investment banker to come to talk to them, to get them thinking about careers, but he's pulled out. Kate wonders if Rhys might like to step in and talk to the kids instead, letting slip in the process that she's at least partially motivated by the desire to take his mind off his recent woes. Dismissive of both Kate and the inspirational value of his career, Rhys flat- out refuses and wanders off to get ready for work, telling Kate to close the door behind her. Outside, she rings Karl to ask for his help…
Karl catches up with Rhys, who's been ignoring his calls. Seemingly eager to do Kate's bidding, Karl has agreed to cover Rhys's shift so he can go and talk to Kate's pupils. Rhys moans that he's already told Kate no, but Karl isn't taking no for an answer – saying Rhys needs to fulfil his community outreach obligations and telling him it can be very rewarding. Rhys wants to know why Karl can't do it instead; Karl explains Kate wanted someone closer to the pupils' age. He tells Rhys to hurry along.
Georgia excitedly tells Sonya and Jade that she has had ‘the most amazing' idea: a baby- shower for Sonya! Sonya seems genuinely thrilled, while Jade can barely contain her sarcasm.
GEORGIA: Okay, so the first thing is, we need to decide on a theme. How about a surprise party?
JADE: But Sonya already knows about it, so…
GEORGIA: Oh, yeah! Well, how about ‘A Star is Born'? We could decorate the house with like, stars and moons and, like, little planets…
GEORGIA: Or how about animals? Or baby stuff! Bottles, nappies…
SONYA (to Jade): What do you reckon?
But Jade has long since lost interest, being too busy eating biscuits and texting Kyle to be thinking about baby- showers.
Karl plays general fount of wisdom to Kyle, who explains about Jade's extra year in LA and lets slip he's not over the moon about her going for so long. Karl suggests that Kyle go with her, saying he could find someone to run Dial- A- Kyle while he's gone. Kyle realises he does have the money to pay a manager as he has a lot of jobs booked in – and starts to get excited about the idea.
Dial- A- Kyle
Kyle is looking over some information about LA, when Harley turns up at the yard, talking to Sheila on the phone. Sheila wants to know when the boys will be back in Frankston for Christmas; Kyle says he'll have to let her know later. He explains to Harley that he might be with Jade in LA for Christmas, or indeed perhaps for the whole year. Harley is furious, demanding to know where he's going to live if Kyle disappears off to the US. Harley wanders off in a strop, convinced he'll have to go back to his mum's – and Kyle screws up the papers he was looking at in frustration.
Georgia has stocked up on glitter, glue and ribbons in preparation for the baby- shower. She's also bought some origami paper, with which she intends to train Sonya and Jade in the art of making paper storks that they can hang from the ceiling etc. Some time later and Sonya has mastered the art, but Jade is making a hash of it and is very distracted – so Georgia leaves them to talk. Sonya wonders if Jade is jealous that Sonya and Georgia seem to have more in common than the sisters, but Jade denies it, saying she's just jetlagged – and to prove it, calls Georgia to ask her to show her the origami technique again.
Outside, Kate welcomes Rhys and tells him the kids are really looking forward to his talk, but he's still being sarcastic and dismissive about the whole event. Kate tells him to focus on the positives of his job, but Rhys has apparently decided there aren't any since his surgery career was snatched away from him.
In the classroom, Kate introduces Rhys to the class, which includes Harley, Rani, Callum and Sophie. Rhys does his level best to make his job sound as boring and mundane as possible, much to Kate's disappointment.
As the class gets bored, Kate tries to spur Rhys on to talk about the impact he's had on people's lives. He's not keen, citing patient confidentiality, but Sophie ruins his attempt to downplay his job by telling the class he saved her life after the car crash, injuring himself in the process. Kate also mentions him saving Chris's life at the garage following his punctured lung. At this point the class suddenly begins to treat Rhys like a demi- god, and Kate's Samaritan effort for the day is complete.
Outside, Rhys continues to brag about the minimal tools he had at his disposal to save Chris. Harley in particular is impressed by all the blood and guts, and tells Rhys he's ‘nowhere near as lame' as he thought. Kate thanks Rhys for talking to the class, and says she owes him a couple of drinks for his efforts.
Jade continues to cooperate with Sonya and Georgia's relentless enthusiasm about the baby- shower. Sonya is shocked when Jade even offers to bake special baby- themed cupcakes, and demands to know what's going on. After Georgia leaves, Sonya again accuses Jade of being jealous of Georgia and trying to outdo her, but Jade says it's not that: she's genuinely happy that Sonya and Georgia get on so well. Jade admits she's been distracted because of Kyle – he's been ignoring her all day and she knows he's not happy about her extended spell in LA. Sonya tells Jade to go and sort things out with Kyle.
Dial- A- Kyle
At the yard, Jade explains to Kyle that she's been helping with the baby- shower all day. She asks Kyle why he hasn't been replying to her texts all day, and he admits he needed time to think. Taking out his work diary, he suggests they plan out when they're going to see each other over the next year. Jade agrees, but they quickly find that none of their dates are matching up. Kyle becomes despondent, but Jade says it'll be worth it if they can just tough it out for a year. She suggests they work it all out another time when they can go through their diaries properly, and leaves him to it. Kyle looks forlorn.
Jade is setting the table for dinner when Kyle comes in – she's kicked Harley and Rhys out so they can spend the evening alone together. But Kyle is upset about how little they'll be able to see each other, and asks Jade to promise him that one year won't turn into two or three. When she can't answer immediately, Kyle makes a decision.
KYLE: I can't do it. You want LA; I want us. It's not going to work. We have to break up. You saw our schedules. We'll be lucky to see each other a handful of times over the next year.
JADE: Well that's better than just breaking up!
Jade begs him not to give up, promising that if they offer her longer than a year, she'll say no. But Kyle collects a duvet and pillow from their room so he can sleep on the couch, telling her he doesn't want their relationship to become casual again. Jade asks him to move to LA with her, but Kyle tells her his whole life is here; he doesn't want to drift apart slowly, so says it's best to call it quits now. Upset, she suggests they sleep on it and talk again tomorrow – Kyle's sorry, but he says there's no point. He sits on the couch in silence as Jade goes to their bedroom.
