- Harley steals $200 from Rhys to buy a games console
Kyle is preparing to return Harley's games console to the store. He tells Harley he covered for him regarding the $200 missing from Rhys's wallet, and wants him to admit he stole it to buy the console. Harley insists it's a coincidence that the console cost the same amount of money that went missing, and acts all aggrieved that Kyle doesn't believe him. He walks off in a sulk, and Kyle goes out to get the refund.
Kyle tells Jade that the shop wouldn't take the console back because it's been opened. Kyle can't prove it was Harley, but doesn't see any other possible explanation – and regrets covering for him with Rhys, admitting he even contemplated getting the cops involved. Kyle worries he won't be able to get through to Harley: he admits he was just the same at his age. Jade wonders if Kyle is too close to the problem, and suggests she try to get through to Harley by working out what it is he really cares about.
Dial- A- Kyle
Jade turns up to confront Harley about stealing from Rhys, only to get a lot of attitude thrown back at her. She remarks that Harley's mum and Dane aren't likely to be impressed with his behaviour, but Harley says that they trust him, unlike Kyle and Jade. He carries on working, and Jade walks off.
Sonya gives Lucas some books about pregnancy, complete with a birthing DVD which Lucas declines! As ever, she's keen to ascertain the current status of Lucas's feelings for Vanessa, and he admits he's finding it difficult being around Vanessa all the time. He's resolved to put up with it, however, and Sonya tells him she doesn't want to see him get hurt. He reassures her, and leaves.
Lucas and Vanessa are returning from an antenatal class. She thanks him for going with her and is just about to go back to Harold's, when she feels the baby kick. She lets Lucas feel it too, which he's thrilled about. Sonya, who is passing, sees the interaction from a distance and gets all emotional.
Vanessa is serving Kyle and various other customers. Lou and Sonya are in the queue: they discuss Lou's godfather role and Jellyfish's progress. They also talk about Vanessa, and how charming she is. Lou points out to Sonya that Vanessa has quite an effect on men. As he orders another slice of her cake in a slightly flirtatious manner, Sonya looks concerned.
Rani helps Priya unload shopping from the car. She thanks her mum for letting her get contact lenses, but says she'd still prefer blue ones; Priya isn't negotiating, though. Harley turns up, and both Priya and Jade watch as the teens talk to one another. Rani asks if Harley would like to do something later, and he agrees – before Priya hurries her indoors with the shopping. Harley watches Rani go indoors, and Jade smiles in a ‘bright idea' sort of a way.
Harley comes in. Jade remarks that Rani is ‘pretty cute', and wonders aloud whether Priya would let Rani spend time with Harley if she knew he'd been stealing from his housemates. Jade warns that if Harley doesn't confess, they may have to go to the police; Harley doesn't think Kyle will let her, and Kyle has already given Rhys an explanation for the missing money. But Jade says if he doesn't own up and work out a way to pay back the money, she'll talk to Priya about what he's been up to.
JADE: Now your new girlfriend might find this whole bad boy routine really cool, but nobody likes a thief, Harley. You've got till the end of the day to sort this out.
Priya is already having reservations about Harley, and asks Ajay if he knows he and Rani are friends. He says he does and that Harley seems decent, but Priya is more sceptical. She doesn't have a problem with Rani spending time with boys, but is concerned about Harley having been expelled from his previous school. Ajay thinks it's good that Rani has welcomed the new boy as a friend, and Priya seems to agree. Ajay then receives a video conference call request on his laptop, regarding Jade's singles boot camp.
Harley does his polite routine, offering Priya a hand bringing in the rest of her groceries. She is bemused to notice him grinning at her charmingly.
HARLEY: So how do you find time to be principal and keep so fit?
PRIYA: Really? Are you really trying that with me? (laughs)
HARLEY: I just said you looked fit.
PRIYA: You can drop the charming routine, Mr Canning! My husband may have fallen for it, but I won't.
PRIYA: If you really want to make an impression then do your schoolwork and keep your head down. But if there is even a hint of trouble, I will come down on you like a ton of bricks.
Ajay's video conferencing session has cut out and he says he'll try again on his mobile. Harley brings the bags in. Ajay offers him a cup of tea but he declines, clearly perturbed by Priya's warning. Rani asks Harley if he wants to come to the library with her, and he agrees. Priya and Ajay both let them go; but when they've gone, Ajay is surprised that Priya's now okay with the two of them spending time together. She says it's only the library, and says if he's concerned he should have said something. Priya says she had a nice afternoon with Rani without any arguments, and didn't want to spoil it by nagging her.
AJAY: That all sounds great babe, but isn't our daughter hanging out with a guy like Harley Canning just a bit more important than being in her good books?
PRIYA: If you have a problem with this, then you're going to have to be the bad cop this time. Because I'm sick of it.
Sonya is waiting in the queue to pay as Vanessa serves a male customer. She gives him an extra cookie on the house, which leads him to remark that it must be his lucky day. After he's gone, Sonya remarks somewhat awkwardly that Vanessa was really sweet to the customer, but that she perhaps shouldn't be so overly friendly with male customers in case they think she's flirting. Vanessa's a little surprised, and Sonya puts her foot in it by giving examples.
SONYA: Like with Kyle before, maybe.
VANESSA: Kyle knows I'm just having fun.
SONYA: Yeah, he does, he does. I'm not so sure about others.
VANESSA: What others?
SONYA: Lou… cas? Lucas, maybe?
Vanessa begins to realise what Sonya's getting at, and asks if Lucas has said something. Sonya denies it but implies that the way Vanessa is so tactile with him may be giving him the wrong idea. Appalled, Vanessa rushes off to find Lucas and set the record straight. Sonya looks guilty.
Vanessa asks Lucas if he thinks she's been giving him mixed signals, or the impression she's interested in him. He says no, and asks if this is coming from Rhys, but she says it isn't. Vanessa tells him she needs to know if things have changed for him because of the baby or their living arrangements. Lucas hesitates, but eventually tells her nothing's changed and that he's happy with their arrangement and her relationship with Rhys. He's curious to know what's got her worried though, and asks if he's been too full- on. She says he's been great and gives him a hug, before leaving.
Vanessa calls round to see Sonya, to tell her she was wrong about Lucas – he's not confused at all about their relationship, and Vanessa wants to know why Sonya was implying that she was being too forward with him. Sonya mentions seeing them feeling the baby kick earlier on.
SONYA: I know what it feels like, when I'm with Jarrod; it's kind of intimate.
VANESSA: I think ‘private' is the word you're after.
Vanessa says she knows she and Sonya have developed a connection because they're both pregnant – but that she thinks they should give one another some space.
Kyle tells Jade he only got half of the retail price for trading in the console as second- hand. She tells him she's working on Harley, when he comes in with some magazines from the library. When Jade asks if he has anything to say to Kyle and Harley replies that he doesn't, she says she's going to the Kapoors' to talk to Priya. Harley begs her not to, and admits to Kyle that he stole the money from Rhys to pay for the console.
At which point, Ajay calls round with some good news for Jade about the singles boot camp: he's been talking to group of US investors who want to buy the franchise rights for North America! She's thrilled to learn that it's pretty much a done deal – but a little less thrilled when Ajay tells her that, as part of the deal, the investors want Jade to move to Los Angeles for six months in order to set things up and train the staff. Ajay says he's agreed to let them know by tomorrow (this evidently being far too lucrative a business opportunity to delay, in case someone else comes up with the same incredible idea), and leaves it with her to think about. Jade looks at an oblivious Kyle guiltily.
Later, Jade, Harley and Kyle watch TV; Jade is very quiet. Kyle warns Harley he'll be washing up for the next two weeks. Rhys comes in and asks where the console is, and Kyle tells him Harley's mum has taken it back. In the kitchen, Kyle thanks Jade for whatever she did to get Harley to admit the truth. He kisses her, and says he doesn't know what he'd do without her. Cue another guilty look.
