Ramsay Street
Sonya stands at the end of Troy's driveway looking towards his house, quietly panicking. Karl returns from work, and Sonya frantically rushes over to speak to him. She tells him that Callum's at Troy's, and that he said he wanted to spend time with him. She wants to call Toadie, but Karl warns her against it. If Toadie finds out he'll rush down here, and he'll breach the intervention order again, which could be very serious for him.
KARL: Whatever we think of Troy, he loves Callum, he's not going to do anything to harm him.
Karl tells Sonya to wait for Callum to go home, speak to him, get some answers, and then she can work out what to tell Toadie.
Number 28
Tash and Summer are both sitting at the kitchen table, working. Tash is listening to music loudly, and it's distracting Summer, so she asks for her to turn it down. Tash refuses because it helps her concentrate, and the two of them start sniping at each other. Tash sees the work that Summer has to do, she's watching a video of a dancing Llama. Karl arrives and offers to help Tash with some of the probability work that she's catching up on but after looking at it he realises it's a little beyond him. He suggests she speak to someone who has tackled it more recently, such as another student on her course. Tash and Summer start bickering again, Tash says she'll go study somewhere else before her shift starts.
Harold's Exterior
Tash is sitting outside Harold's, reading her Multivariable Calculus book. Vanessa approaches and asks if Tash should be working at Charlie's, Tash responds rudely that her shift hasn't started yet, so Vanessa tells her if she doesn't order then she can't sit there. She asks for one of Vanessa's lemon tarts, Vanessa quips about Tash trying to steal her recipes again. As Vanessa leaves, Ed passes by and asks Tash how the catch up is going. They start talking about conditional probability, I won't bore you with the details (if only the writer of this episode had been so kind.) Ed tells her that she needs to have caught up before she starts the intensive classes, she'll feel like a moron otherwise. She says she has a couple of days still to catch up. Tash asks Ed to go through the stuff with her.
TASH: If someone comes, try and not act too geeky, okay?
ED: How many pens in my shirt pocket is acceptable before it's too geeky?
Charlie's
Chris admires Andrew's 'Right Prescription' posters. Paul asks Andrew if he has plans tonight, as Sophie's going to be around at Callum's, and he wants to invite Zoe over. Andrew gets the hint that he should be out of the way. The phone rings and it's a reporter wanting to speak about the incident, Paul asks Andrew to tell her he's not available, but the reporter hears Pauls' voice on the phone. Paul tells the reporter that he has made the donation to the school (completing the funds transfer while he is talking to her on the phone), and that if she decides to print the story they'll be hearing from Paul's solicitor. Andrew tells Paul that even if he donates the money, people will still find out he tore up the cheque. Paul says he can handle that. He makes a phone call to Susan, asking to meet her at Harold's tonight as there's a story he wants her to cover.
Harold's Exterior
Mathematical Tutoring montage: Ed tries to relate Mathematical probabilities to Battlestar Galactica, while Tash sits confused.
TASH: How about we work out the probability of you ever getting a girlfriend?
Ed tries to relate probability to Dungeons & Dragons, and that's when Tash gives up and puts her head down on the table.
Number 30
Sonya is lost in thought, until Callum comes home. She asks Callum what he and Troy did - they put up some shelves (fun). Sonya asks if Troy forced him to go over there, he denies that.
CALLUM: Weren't you the one who told me that people can change? Remember when you took me to that Gambler's Anonymous meeting? If you can change, why can't Troy?
Callum goes to his room. Sonya makes a phone call to Toadie and asks to come over as she needs to talk to hm.
Susan's flat
Sonya tells Toadie and Susan what happened. Toadie asks if Troy is forcing him to spend time with him, but Sonya says it all came from Callum. Toadie wishes he was there, then at least he'd be able to supervise the visits. Sonya is desperate to fight this, Toadie says they had been fighting Troy for access and it wasn't looking good. Sonya says they have to find something.
Number 30
Sonya has made a pizza with a smiley face on it, aww. She knocks on Callum's door, he says he's busy in the middle of a quest and that he's 15 and he's not hungry (poor Sonya.) Sonya says she'll leave it out if he wants to heat it up later.
Susan's flat
Susan offers Toadie a cup of tea, and asks him how he's going. Toadie says if Callum wants to be with Troy then he can't do anything about it. He blames himself for being too preoccupied with work and too busy focusing on getting pregnant to spend time with Callum. Susan says Callum knows how much he loves him, but Toadie wonders why he needs to spend so much time with Troy. Troy has nothing else in his life apart from Callum, and maybe that's what Callum wants. Susan says Callum won't forget how good Toadie has been to him. He's always done what's best for Callum, and Callum knows that.
Harold's Exterior
Tash and Ed are still chatting. Tash is now using shopping to explain probabilities. Blah blah blah, then Ed tells her she needs to get over herself, as soon as she stops thinking of ways to insult him, then she'll actually learn something. They go back to basic probability (seriously, they're supposed to be doing a university Maths course, they should both know the basics and not have spent 3 scenes thinking of simple examples for probabilities.) Anyway after the bog-standard pack of card probability example, and blah blah blah, Tash finally gets it.
Karl walks past and is pleased that Tash followed his advice to get a tutor. He introduces himself to Ed.
TASH: I'm a genius, and this guy's a really bad teacher.
Karl wishes them good luck and leaves. Ed offers to go over more things, but Tash has to get to work, she asks Ed to come with her. He's surprised she's inviting him somewhere, she tells him not to get too excited, he promises to contain himself.
Charlie's
Tash is multitasking at being a waitress while playing blackjack with Ed. She's not doing very well though and Kate has to keep reminding her to do her job. Kate asks Tash to keep the bar under control while she goes to the kitchen. After Kate leaves, Tash goes to sit with Ed. A group of guys come over and want in on the blackjack game. They go for it, to prove if the theory works.
(Later)
The formula Ed and Tash have been working on holds up while playing the blackjack game. Kate comes over and realises that they're gambling illegally, just as two police officers arrive. Tash and the guys quickly clear the table and scram, but the police don't think there is anything suspicious about this and order food.
Kate gives Tash an official warning. Tash goes over to Ed.
ED: That looked ugly.
TASH: Yeah someone should tell Kate control freak isn't a good look on her.
Ed says that the numbers they got in the game met their predictions.
TASH: That's more than I make in tips.
ED: That's because you're a terrible waitress.
Tash says they should do this again, more people, more games, higher stakes, more maths! Ed goes for it.
Number 22
Paul serves dinner for Zoe, she's very impressed and says he may be the perfect man. She says she has a list of PR consultants that he should try, Paul asks if any are as good as she is, she says probably not. Paul says he's handling the situation himself without a PR consultant.
Harold's
Karl and Susan are sitting waiting for Paul. Paul and Zoe arrive and Zoe sits down on the other side of Harold's. Paul approaches Vanessa. He tells her that her talents are wasted here and he'd like to offer her the job of head chef at Lassiters, the job she applied for two months ago, which he refused to give her because she was pregnant. Paul says they've revamped their conditions for working parents at Lassiters, and hopes the maternity benefit would be a good incentive for her to join them. Paul passes the new agreement to Susan to be issued as a press release.
VANESSA: I'm not accepting the job. You refused to hire me because I was pregnant, and now you want me to be the fair-go working parents charade? I don't think so
Vanessa gets on with her work, so Susan asks if that's why Paul brought her down there. Susan is not Paul's PR servant and she has far more important things to do, so she storms off.
KARL: Too little, too late Paul. Story of your life really, isn't it?
Paul goes over to Zoe, she tells him that wasn't worthy of page 40 even if he did manage to pull it off. She shows him the Waratah Star's headline for tomorrow, 'Robinson Reneges' complete with a photo of Paul tearing up the cheque for Erinsborough High.
Susan's flat
Toadie reads through a book of family law. He reads a highlighted line 'the best interests of the child as the paramount consideration.' Cue cute flashbacks of Callum from over the years.
CALLUM: Dad's are like forever.
TOADIE: So are son's.
TOADIE: It means I'd become your legal guardian.
CALLUM: What, so you get more power over me? That sucks. I'll have to think about it.
TOADIE: I, Jarrod, Toadfish, Rebecchi do solemnly declare that I will be Callum's dad.
CALLUM: I, Callum, Squid, Jones agree to be Toadie's son.
We see Toadie, Sonya and Callum having a fight with water pistols.
TOADIE: The three of us, a family, there's nothing more important than that.
(Later)
Sonya arrives, frantically as usual. She asks if he's found something to help their case, if he's spoken to the family law guys at work. She doesn't care how much it costs to fight this. Toadie says that if Callum wants to spend time with Troy then they have to let him. Sonya says they should speak to Callum, remind him of what type of person Troy is, but Toadie refuses to brainwash Callum against his biological father.
SONYA: Why the hell not, he would brainwash him against us!
TOADIE: Yeah exactly, we are not Troy. Troy might be happy to rip that poor kid in half, but I'm not.
Sonya asks how long this will go on for, Toadie says since Troy's bought the house next door it might be a while. He hopes he'll be home soon, then they can concentrate on being a family. Toadie and Sonya hug.
