Previously on Neighbours
Tash is having trouble paying the bills, Chris tells her to talk to her dad, but she doesn't want his help.
Sonya frantically wants to know if she can have kids, Rhys tells them that Toadie's the one with the fertility problem.
Vanessa tells Lucas that she's pregnant.
On the road
Stock footage of Lucas motorbike riding, probably taken from any number of scenes over the last 3 years whenever Lucas is in intense emotion- mode, probably first seen when Elle dumped Lucas in 2009 (okay I don't know if it is stock footage but it certainly feels like that - It was either going to be this or a punching bag montage.)
Lucas comes home and is greeted by Lou, who questions Lucas on if he was up all night with either Vanessa or the other one. After a lot of questioning from Lou, Lucas informs him that Vanessa's pregnant. He tells Lou that they only had one night together, and all he knows about Vanessa is she's a good cook.
LOU: More to the point, what does she know about you, does she know about the garage, or your dad's money?
LUCAS: Vanessa's not like that
LOU: How do you know? Because she makes a decent cupcake?
LUCAS: I'm not having this conversation.
LOU: Mate, think about it. You meet this girl, she's all over you. Four weeks later she shows up at the door and tells you she's up the duff.
LUCAS: Because that's what's happened. I'm pretty sure she's pregnant.
LOU: Are you sure it's yours? These things do happen you know
LUCAS: Vanessa... I don't think she'd do that
LOU: Take my advice sunshine, find out.
Karl meets Toadie who's been for a run. Toadie tells him that there's a lot of things to keep track of when trying for a baby, Karl says it'll be worth it when Sonya's pregnant. As they leave, Kyle and Jade enter. Kate tells them that she's tired of these early morning starts. Kyle informs her that the new manager at Charlie's is looking for new waiters, which would be better hours for Kate. Kate decides to walk out of her shift (telling her colleague that she's ‘ducking out for a second' and should be called if it gets busy.)
Kate approaches Celeste, the manager, and enquires about the bar job. She hands over her CV. Celeste says she's interviewing just now, and asks Kate to take a seat, there's another applicant waiting. Kate goes over to the sofas and finds Tash sitting there.
Vanessa comes in and sits down with Lucas. Vanessa acknowledges that Lucas must have a million questions; he asks her if the baby is his.
VANESSA: If you think that I'm the sort of person who would use the fact that I'm pregnant, what exactly do you think I'm trying to do?
LUCAS: Keep your voice down
VANESSA: I haven't asked you for a thing, not one single thing.
LUCAS: Not yet
VANESSA: You think I'm after your money. Lucas, you're a mechanic who runs a tiny garage in the suburbs and lives with his grandfather
LUCAS: He's not my grandfather.
VANESSA: If I wanted to do something like this, do you think I would have chosen you?
LUCAS: I was good enough a month ago
VANESSA: I am pregnant! I don't want to be but I am, and because I am, I'm taking responsibility.
LUCAS: Just calm down
VANESSA: You don't get to tell me to calm down. The only reason I came back here is because I thought you had the right to know
LUCAS: I also have the right to know if I'm the father.
VANESSA: You're the father because I say you are.
Vanessa leaves and tells Lucas not to contact her again.
Vanessa walks away from Harold's, when Sonya runs over to speak to Vanessa, asking if she's still looking for Lucas. Vanessa rants to Sonya about her being pregnant with Lucas's baby, and the first thing he did was ask if he was the father, as if she was scamming him. Sonya insists that Lucas will want to be involved. Vanessa only had one night with Lucas and ended up pregnant, and Sonya is visibly taken aback by this. Now Vanessa knows where Lucas stands, she's glad she's doing this alone. Vanessa leaves.
Jade is with a group while they do their stretches. Jade goes over to talk to Sonya who tells her about Lucas. Sonya's upset because Vanessa and Lucas managed to get pregnant so easily, while she and Toadie are trying so hard. Jade tells Sonya that this isn't about her and she should go and speak to Lucas.
Celeste begins the interviews, and we have a montage of them answering interview questions, Kate has a lot of experience, and Tash shows off her maths skills.
TASH: I'm a maths genius. And I'm hot too. It's a rare combination.
Celeste says she can't separate them both on the interview, and asks them both to give a trial run this afternoon. Kate says she's available (she seems to have forgotten that she only ‘ducked out for a second' from Harold's. I keep expecting us to cut away to the other waitress at Harold's, snowed under with work, but we never do.)
Montage continues with Tash and Kate collecting orders from Kyle and Rhys among others. Celeste watches them both at work. Tash brings Kyle the wrong order but promises to fix it. Kyle tells Rhys that Tash has no chance, but Rhys says she knows how to work the room.
Karl enters and looks at the poster he had put up on the notice board looking for band members, but there haven't been any takers yet. Rhys comes over to snarl at Karl. As Karl leaves, Kyle tells Kate she's nailing it. Tash asks Kate if she needs this job, because Tash desperately needs it since Michael took off. Kate suggests she asks Lyn if she'd hire Tash, but the job at Harold's won't pay enough for Tash to meet her bills. She needs this job.
Sonya comes around to visit Lucas, and says she spoke to Vanessa. She says that both of them are reacting the way they are because they're scared, Sonya was too when she had Callum, and Vanessa is nothing like Troy. Lucas tells Sonya the only reason she's lecturing him about this is because she and Toadie can't have a baby.
LUCAS: Vanessa made it pretty clear that she's happy for me to stay away.
SONYA: I would have done the same thing if you said it to me.
LUCAS: It's none of your business. It's no one's business but mine.
SONYA: You're making a mistake.
LUCAS: It's my mistake to make.
SONYA: If you can't man up and face your responsibility then they're better off without you.
Sonya storms off.
Lucas arrives, sits down on the sofa, and scrolls through his phone, considers phoning Sonya but then decides not to.
Sonya comes home, finding it empty. She looks at a baby photo of Callum.
Kate tells Tash off for working on her section of the bar. Tash says she will do whatever it takes to get this job. Kate presumptuously asks Celeste when she starts. Celeste calls Tash over and says that she's putting them both on a two week trial, and after that she'll select who has the job.
Toadie takes a sip of that revolting green fertility drink again, and works on his laptop. Sonya's phone bleeps, Sonya stops for a moment thoughtfully. Toadie checks and it's seems to be a reminder that it's ‘baby- making time.' Toadie is enthusiastic about trying again for a baby, but Sonya doesn't seem enthusiastic at all.
Sonya stares at all the pills and fertility drinks that they have. Toadie wanders in wearing boxers and a t- shirt. Sonya tells Toadie that she can't do this anymore. Sonya is tired of trying with nothing happening.
SONYA: This desperation to have a baby, it's all that we think about.
TOADIE: Because it's important to us.
SONYA: It's threatening our lives.
TOADIE: Because it's important to us.
SONYA: I'm sick of it, I'm sick of what's its doing to us. I'm sick of having to listen to an alarm clock that tells us when we can or we can't be together.
They talk about how it's affecting Callum too, and she doesn't think all this is worth it. She says she can't do it anymore and walks off.
