- Kate/Sophie coming up with a plan – they don't want to live with each other any more.
Paul can't believe what his nieces have come up with especially since he's sceptical about whether he can be Sophie's guardian at all. Roz decides to give them some time to talk by saying she'll pretend the meeting didn't take place and will come back later on after another meeting but issues them a warning – they need to get it sorted today!
Kate explains why she can't be Sophie's guardian any more.
KATE: I'm her sister, not her mum, but if we carry on like this…
She does add that she will still be there for her sister but that Sophie needs a parent, someone she can rely on.
PAUL: And that's not you.
KATE: No, not any more.
Sophie wants Paul to fight to be her guardian despite the DHS turning him down before.
Jade is still being very cool with Kyle and she asks why he flew off to be with her. “She's a mate,” he replies so Jade asks if he'd do the same for Honger? “If he asked,” Kyle replies and she stabs the knife in by saying that Kate didn't ask.
Jade burns off her frustration by going for a run and stops at her sisters business to get some hydration.
Rhys drops by to demand cash from Kyle for his share of the bills since he hasn't deposited the money into his account. He also wishes that he'd sort things out with Jade! “She keeps avoiding me,” he replies to his housemate.
Jade thinks her sister would be angry if Toadie did the same thing so she reminds him of what Toadie did with Steph! That slightly appeases Jade but she still isn't accepting what happened even when Sonya tries to point out that Kyle is the kind of guy who would do what he did.
Rhys has a dig at Kyle for what he did even though he can't see what he did was a bad thing.
Sonya tries to point out that just because he helps others, doesn't mean he doesn't love her any less.
SONYA: You're the only one he wants.
The penny finally sinks with Kyle – he's now realised he messed up!
Paul finally gets hold of Andrew when he comes home and asks for his thoughts on becoming Sophie's legal guardian. Andrew is cool with it although Paul is still unsure about it and its Andrew's turn to convince him that what is best for Sophie is her living there permanently with them.
PAUL: I just don't know if I'm the best of examples.
ANDREW: Okay dad, yes you do get things wrong and you can be exceptionally annoying but think of everything that me and you have been through mmm. You've always been my dad. I know some of it's been pretty rough but you took me in when nobody else would.
Father and son share a hug and Andrew's parting words is to let him do the same to Sophie before he heads upstairs.
Kate hugs Andrew as the family have a bit of a meeting before Roz comes back. Paul wants 100% confirmation from Sophie that this is what she really wants but both reaffirm that this is what they want.
PAUL: Let's do this.
Paul reminds them that they still need to convince the DHS but the others set out to prove him wrong, that he can be Sophie's guardian.
Paul calls round to see Susan, well beg really once he's apologised, for a character reference from her. She asks if this is the right thing for Sophie and Paul replies determinedly that it is.
PAUL: I'm all she's got Susan. I'm not going to let her down so please, I need your help.
Initially Susan doesn't reply but after Paul tells her that Sophie's going to end up in foster care, she relents and agrees to but only after she's talked to Sophie.
Sophie apologises for running off and admits she thinks she's stuffed everything up because she knew Kate would always be there for her regardless. “I never thought that she would leave me,” she admits then realises what Kate had to give up, to care for them. Surprisingly, when Susan asks if she really wants to live with Paul, Soph replies “no” but then goes onto say that she can't live with Kate any more.
SOPHIE: Because if we keep going on like this I'm going to lose her for good. I really don't want to lose her. I just want my sister back.
Kate runs into Kyle and he has a go at her for disappearing and how worried they all were when she took off. “You should have been here,” he tells her before walking off. And Jade also happened to witness the scene too, as she came across it when running through the complex although they didn't see her.
Roz is officially back and reading through the character references Paul has obtained but it still boils down to the fact he has a criminal record. Paul is annoyed it's being brought up and wants to know how long this is going to be hanging over his head. He has a little rant at her/himself/the system but his words seem to have worked with Roz and she leaves to check with her bosses to see what she can do but isn't sure what the result will be.
SOPHIE: So what now?
KATE: We wait.
Jade mentions to Kyle that she saw him chatting to Kate and admits that she got him wrong – that she realises how much his mates mean to him. Kyle asks that she just talks to him especially if it's making her unhappy.
Jade is reporting to Sonya the result of her chat with Kyle. She admits that she still unsure of what to say to him but then when Sonya leaves to do something; it comes to her and begins to pot up a plant.
Kyle returns to find that the kitchen window is covered in plants! Cue one happy bunny, well two giving how they are pashing!
Roz is back with news – that subject to a few more assessments, Sophie can stay with Paul at #22. Cue happy hugs all round with Paul even hugging Roz! Kate is happy that it's been approved but feels left out of the celebrations between Paul/Andrew/Sophie and slips out the door unnoticed.
Kate exits #22 onto the street and spots Rhys commenting on the lovebirds sitting on the windowsill of #26. Susan than runs into her and Kate thanks her for her assistance with the DSH. Kate then heads home and stops by to check her main and opens a birthday card from Harry.
