Karl who has been a bit distracted stops what he is doing and assures Susan that Audrey will be fine. Susan apologises for accusing Karl of not taking care of Audrey, admitting Audrey is just getting old.
Mike and Emilia are sitting at a table when they both get the same message from Tash asking if she can be picked up because of a train situation. Emilia laughs and offers to go and get her but Mike says she doesn't have to as he has told his daughter off before for using people as a taxi service. Emilia suggests Mike let Tash drive the Sandman and just for that Mike says she can go and fetch Tash after all. Lucas comes over and Emilia tells him she has to go and get Tash, but suggests they meet up later for dinner. Mike looks a little jealous as he watches them kiss before Emilia goes.
Priya comes over to speak with Lucas and apologetically tells him that she has had to cancel his leave as she just doesn't have the staff to do without him. Lucas is disappointed but when Priya tells him that she needs his experience he reluctantly agrees to stay. Once Priya is gone Lucas says he liked it better when Mike was in charge.
Priya asks Kate if she would consider coming back to the school. Kate isn't impressed and asks her if Paul put her up to it. Speaking of Paul he is eavesdropping nearby. Priya reassures Kate that Paul had nothing to do with it, but Kate still isn't interested in coming back. Priya works hard to convince Kate saying that she knows the school so well and it would be a shame to waist all those years of study. Kate tells Priya that she has made other plans and continues to clear the tables . Paul immediately comes over and asks about Priya's first day and mentions her staffing issues. Priya assures him that it isn't her biggest issue.
Outside Number 28
Karl arrives home with Audrey in her basket. He looks over at Number 30 with a sad expression on his face.
Karl tells Susan that Audrey is very sick and there isn't a lot the vet can do.
Karl tells Susan that Audrey has a liver shunt which is quite common in her breed, but she isn't in any pain. Susan wants to call Libby to see if she can come down, but Karl explains that the vet thinks Audrey should be put down. Susan is close to tears as she says that Audrey should spend her last few hours at Number 28 as it is her home.
Later Susan and Karl are discussing the changes Karl has made to the living area. Susan decides to try giving Audrey some water.
Tash is sitting with her Dad and Emilia when Chris comes in to take her to the movies. They leave and Emilia moves her chair closer to Mike and asks about his first day back at school. Mike admits that he can't stand Priya's way of doing things, lots of new rules, stricter discipline and insisting on lesson plans from all staff. Emilia points out that Priya is the principle now and things are going to change. Mike tells her that he threw his lesson plans in the bin and he plans to tell Priya that his experience means he doesn't have to plan every lesson. This doesn't sound like a very promising plan to Emilia, who suggests that he should toe the line for the time being and show his true colours when he gets results. She then convinces him to go back to the school and get his lesson plans out of the bin before the cleaners do.
Mike successfully fishes his plans out of the bin while Emilia tells him that the naughtiest thing she ever did at school was lock the boys and the PE teacher in the change rooms. They were stuck there all afternoon. They laugh and Mike suggests they go, but Emilia wants to see his teaching skills in action and pretends to be a naughty student.
Karl and Susan reminisce about how Audrey was just a puppy when Libby and Drew found her. They estimate Audrey is about eleven years old. They remember how they had to get a dog therapist in to help Karl and Audrey get along and comment on how Audrey has loved Karl ever since. They then talk about how Libby will be sorry she didn't get to say goodbye.
SUSAN: It's funny how Audrey's always found her way back to Ramsay Street.
KARL: It's a hard place to leave.
Mike concludes his pretend lesson with Emilia. She then sarcastically says a quote from the film The Dead Poet's Society and he says for that sarcasm she can have a detention. Mike then says they should go home. Meanwhile Priya is walking through the corridor's on the phone still trying to find staff. She sees the light on and goes into the classroom where Mike and Emilia are. They hide under the desk just in time. Emilia is laughing, struggling to keep quiet as Priya turns the light off and locks the door behind her.
A little bit later Mike and Emilia are still hiding under the desk as Priya continues to talk on the phone outside the door.
Meanwhile Lucas is waiting for Emilia so they can have dinner. Toadie arrives and asks Lucas why he isn't packing. Lucas explains that Priya has cancelled all leave. Lucas then says that he has been waiting half an hour for Emilia.
Emilia and Mike are still under the desk and Mike is complaining that he is going to be sore tomorrow. Emilia tells him to stop acting so old and he comments that he is old, he has a grown up daughter. Emilia says he is going to bring the fun Mike back. She tickles him, asking him to admit he has fun with her.
Lucas says that perhaps him not being able to go to Sydney isn't such a bad thing as Emilia isn't coming. Lucas admits that he was being pushy but he has decided that he just has to go for it with Emilia. There is no point in wasting time.
Mike admits that he has fun with Emilia.
MIKE: I like who I am with you, I always have. How do you do it?
EMILIA: I don't do anything.
MIKE: You know if things hadn't gone the way they did...
Lucas tells Toadie that Emilia is the one, he is not getting any younger and he knows it is more than a bit of fun. Toadie then tells Lucas that Audrey isn't doing too well so he is taking Karl and Susan some food. Lucas sends his love to them and Toadie tells him to go for it with Emilia.
Mike and Emilia finally escape from under the desk and quickly leave before Priya sets the alarm. Emilia looks very thoughtful.
Karl goes to get Audrey some treats when there is a knock on the door. It turns out to be Toadie with their dinner complete with pikelets made by Callum for Audrey. Susan tells Toadie how great Karl has been.
Later Karl sees the vet out as Susan covers Audrey with a blanket. Karl holds Susan's hand as she cries.
KARL: It's good we were both here for her.
Susan nods sadly.
Emilia arrives and apologises to Lucas for being late. He takes her over to a table and tells her the good news, he is not going to Sydney. Emilia suggests he call the Union over his leave being taken away. Lucas says it doesn't matter, maybe they can go together at the end of term. Emilia says she will pencil it in as she loves Sydney in the Autumn. Lucas says he really wants her to meet Dan and Adam, it is important to him. Lucas then tells Emilia that he loves her, she smiles but doesn't say it back.
