- Rhys arguing with Jade about him looking bad in front of big doctors at the hospital
- Michael lying in hospital with a perforated stomach ulcer
- Karl seeing Mal and Jade flirting and trying to warn him off of doing something regretful
- Karl seeing Mal and Jade making out
Mal comes out after a big night out with “Dave” from high school and Karl shoots him a dirty look. Summer tells everyone that Michael is going home from hospital which is good news. Karl holds Mal back on the pretence of asking about a computer update.
Tash is wheeling her father to reception at the hospital.
MICHAEL: I'm pretty sure the hospital's more concerned with saving lives, Tash.
NATASHA: Doesn't mean they don't have to look good doing it. Or at least raise the hemlines on those skirts!
Rhys is trying to get through to the head of surgery and he also gives Mike some instructions before discharging him.
RHYS: You need to take it easy for a couple of weeks, OK? Light daily exercise is important.
MICHAEL: Well I guess it all depends on the tides, eh?
Never mind. Tash is in charge of looking after her father but Rhys gives her a pamphlet for the hospital's nurses- at- home care program. Mike holds onto the pamphlet but Tash is confident that she doesn't need help.
Mike is laid up on the couch and Tash is getting everything prepared for him. She freaks out when she sees him standing up but she refuses to get him his laptop for fear of stress. He finally gives up and lets her take over.
Mal is fiddling with Karl's computer but Karl is keener on grilling his son about Catherine. Mal gets angry when Karl accuses him of having an affair but he shushes right up when his father tells him that he saw him and Jade at the bus stop. They're interrupted by a call from Catherine.
Jade seeks Dane's opinion about a new workout routine in an attempt to get more blokes to train. Dane suggests adding footballs to it. Hmm. He's really only interested in watching the chicks anyway. Rhys comes storming out of his room and turns it off because he's trying to study but Jade turns it back on, and turns it up in protest. They have a domestic about how he can't see Martin Chambers anymore but Jade doesn't think it's her fault.
Karl is staring down his son when Mal gets all “I love you” kissy- kissy with Cath.
KARL: Can you honestly look me in the eye and justify any of this?
MAL: My marriage is none of your business.
KARL: OK, so it's alright for you to interfere in mine but not the other way around?
Mal pulls the “you are the last person to lecture me about this” card but Karl is not backing down because he doesn't want to see Mal make the same mistakes. He tells Mal to go speak to Jade and end it with her.
Tash and Sum are having an argument about where to cook lunch – Tash wants to do it at home but Sum thinks that doing it at number 28 would be less stressful for Michael. Karl and Susan agree to the use of their kitchen.
KARL: More importantly, can you actually cook?
NATASHA: It's just mashed up vegies, how hard can it be?
SUSAN (to Karl): What do you reckon the chances are that our kitchen will ever be the same again?
KARL: Absolutely zero.
They act surprisingly couply for a non- couple.
Tash starts on lunch.
CHRIS: Karl and Susan seriously OK'd this?
SUMMER: She'll be fine; we'll help her clean up.
Chris is happy to support – he'll help eat the soup. Maybe. Summer goes to help out.
NATASHA: Can you please blanch those carrots?
NATASHA: I thought you'd know.
Tash asks for more tablespoons because she's already used heaps.
CHRIS: You do know that two tablespoons means the same spoon twice, not two separate spoons, right?
NATASHA: Yeah, and just for that, you have to try the soup before I give it to dad.
CHRIS: OK well if I can't sit my exams, Summer you're my witness for special consideration.
Soup is served – a little early.
NATASHA: Yeah, it didn't take as long as the recipe said.
MICHAEL: Why does that make me nervous?
Everyone waits with bated breath at the first taste. Mike screws up his face…and says it's nice. But NO it does not need more salt. Tash gives it a taste and promptly spits it back out. Chris didn't find it that bad, though! Summer may have found the problem – those tablespoons she used…did she mean teaspoons?
MICHAEL: You made the effort, that's what counts.
NATASHA: I nearly poisoned you.
MICHAEL: Yeah. Yeah you did.
Karl the stalker dad asks Mal if he's put matters to rest. Mal gives him sixty seconds to say his piece.
KARL: You are a grown man; the choices you make are your own. But Mal, I have made the same mistakes. And I have come to regret them every day of my life. Even more so lately. It can't be easy for you; these feelings of guilt – you carry them with you every day.
He leaves Mal to think it over.
Rhys is annoyed that Jade has eaten the bananas he bought and left the peel lying around to boot. He compares her to a monkey and theorises that you can teach a monkey to clean up after itself. Dane confesses that he, and not Jade, is responsible for getting Rhys tanked the night before his interview. He was getting Rhys back and he gave him double as a joke. Rhys is mega angry.
RHYS: I'm not just talking about my career – which, by the way, is ruined. What about if I'd tried to drive home? Or if I got called in to work? You are an irresponsible moron!
Mal meets Susan outside their house. She's disappointed to have missed Cath skyping earlier. Susan lays a little mum- pressure by suggesting that if Mal wanted to add to their family, he'd be a great father and Cath would be a lovely mum. Susan is proud of what Mal has with Cath and Mal is guilted.
Dane is demonstrating a training routine using a soccer ball and Jade is laughing. They're interrupted by Mal who has come to seek “fitness advice” from Jade.
MAL: We need to talk.
JADE: No, we don't talk! That's not what this is. You wait five minutes and I'll remind you exactly what this is.
Mal tells her that he can't do it anymore but she doesn't believe him because he didn't take the out that she offered last week. Jade tells him to stop stressing about it but he says it's over.
Summer and Chris are playing Go Fish while Tash washes up after her dinner. She sighs that she's not much of a caregiver but she doesn't want to utilise the care program because the nurses aren't “family” – but Emilia is. Chris thinks it's a bad idea but Sum supports Natasha calling Emilia.
Number 26/Number 28
Rhys is still unsuccessfully trying to get in touch with Martin Chambers. He storms off to his room and Jade wonders what Dane did! Dane confesses and Jade tells him off. He knows he messed up but he's coming clean now because Kyle wouldn't forgive him for letting Jade cop it. She looks at a photo of her and Kyle and texts Mal: Changed your mind yet?
Over at number 28, Susan is wiping up the kitchen despite the teens having cleaned up after themselves, because they did a “teen- cleanup”. Mal won't be sticking around for dinner because he wants to hang out with “Dave”. Karl is disappointed that Mal is lying to his mum.
Ad over, Susan wonders why there's no pastry left in the freezer if the kids made vegetable soup. Mal comes out to grab a towel and Susan can see some tension between him and his father. Karl pretends that it's all OK between them and Susan tells Karl that today has been a good day.
