- Jade enjoying Kyle's attentions.
- Sonya telling Jade that it's OK to be vulnerable. Jade retorts that it isn't.
- Sonya tells Jade to make up her mind - the middle ground is killing her.
- Jade shouting at Kyle that he has "no idea".
- Paul tells Kyle that he's applied for a protection area.
- Kyle doesn't want to move.
- Karl and Susan tell Mal and Summer that they've decided to separate.
Karl and Susan are clearing up from dinner. Summer asks if she can stay at Andrew's tonight. Susan and Karl calmly discuss letting Billy and Anne know, and Libby too. Mal rolls his eyes and says things might change. He wants to know what happened in Anglesea - this is crazy situation.
SUSAN: This is not a decision we came to lightly, believe me.
MAL: But you haven't even spoken to anyone!
SUSAN: We've spoken to each other.
MAL: I mean professionally, you know, what about counsellors?
KARL: Malcolm, we've done that before, it won't help.
MAL: There must be something...
KARL: Malcolm! Things won't change.
Summer is rather gutted that Karl and Susan have split up. Andrew and Paul are shocked to hear the news.
PAUL: It is early days yet. And remember, this is Karl and Susan Kennedy we're talking about here.
There's a knock at the door and it's Kyle. He's come to tell Paul that Toadie's lawyers are now after his own site for a car park! Paul says it won't get through. Kyle says Paul had better fix things.
Jade tells Rhys off for not doing any chores, but he says it was her who sacked his cleaner!
Kyle comes in and tells Jade about the car park conversion plan. Jade says Kyle doesn't have to sell, but he says Lou has got a say too. He suggests they hang out for a while, but Jade makes a swift exit. Kyle looks fed up.
Karl and Susan are talking rather strainedly about the events of the evening. Karl says he'll need to make up the spare room. Susan tells him to sleep in their room tonight and they'll sort it out tomorrow - after all, they both know where they stand.
In a darkened house, lit by the light of a full moon, Karl lies awake. He gets up and goes into the living room. He sits on the sofa and cries quietly. Susan is also awake. She comes to the threshold of the bedroom and sees Karl, but doesn't reveal her presence. She just stands there, looking sad.
Harold's Store, the following morning
Susan is shopping.
Catherine rings Mal.
Sonya sees Susan and welcomes her back to Erinsborough.
Mal wants to know what's going on - why did Karl sleep in Susan's room? He's really frustrated with both of them.
Susan tells Sonya that she's a bit tired after getting travel sick on the way home.
MAL: I can't believe this is what you want!
KARL: It's what we both want.
MAL: Not Mum! YOU. Now, when you went to go and see Mum, there's no way you wanted to come back like this! You wanted to stay and fix things, just like you have done in the past!
KARL: Mal, I spent every waking second trying to do that!
MAL: Then why did you come back?!
KARL: I came back because there was nothing left to be said.
MAL: Well, I can't believe that.
KARL: No, no, no, you can't accept it. There's a difference.
MAL: So, you're just going to give up, are you? Just like that.
KARL: Malcolm, no- one is giving up. We're moving on. That's the difference.
Summer is still upset about Karl and Susan and Andrew is trying to cheer her up. Summer asks if she can stay with Andrew for a few days until things settle down at the Kennedys. Paul says it's OK, as long as she clears it with the Kennedys first.
When Summer has gone to pack some stuff, Paul tells Andrew that he has a responsibility to Summer - she stayed in Erinsborough for Andrew.
PAUL: This is what you signed up for when you got all Romeo and Juliet in Ramsay Street. You have to man up and face your responsibility, mate.
Kyle is banging around the kitchen in a bad mood. Rhys is eating his breakfast and asks him what's going on.
Jade is out running and calls in to see Sonya.
Kyle is telling Rhys about the car park issue.
Sonya tells Jade that she knows she's avoiding Kyle.
SONYA: What are you scared of?
JADE: I'm not scared of anything!
SONYA: Oh, we both know that that is not true. Now let's say you tell him how you feel...
JADE: More of your psycho- babble.
SONYA: You're scared he might say no, right?
SONYA:(realising) You're scared of what might happen if he says yes!
This is clearly the truth. Jade jogs off without another word.
Rhys tells Kyle that maybe the car park will work in his favour after all. Kyle gets mad.
RHYS: I can't tell you what to do. So find someone who can, or shut the hell up!
Kyle looks thoughtful. He looks at a picture of him and Jade on a fridge.
Summer asks Karl and Susan if it's OK for her to stay at Andrew's for a few nights.
KARL: Oh, you don't have to do that...
SUSAN: Not because of us...
MAL:(irritated) Of course it's because of you two!
MAL: And can you blame her?
KARL: Summer, honestly, you don't have to go anywhere.
SUSAN: We know this hasn't been easy on either of you.
MAL: You're damned right it hasn't been You guys can't even say good morning to each other without it being tense.
SUSAN: We're doing our best, Mal, it's pretyt new to us as well.
MAL: Maybe you weren't ready to come back.
MAL: No, Dad, Mum gets home and you're telling us you're splitting up like you're telling us what's for dinner! I mean, you've given us nothing!
SUSAN: OK, what would you like to know?
MAL: I want to know whose idea it was.
He stares pointedly at Susan.
SUSAN: Well it seems I don't need to answer that question.
MAL: When I got back from Anglesea, I knew you were still dealing with things.
SUSAN: Yes, I was.
MAL: You wrote that ridiculous Patient Advocacy article but I just thought you were letting off steam!
SUSAN: We were both very hurt.
MAL: Both?! Hang on, Dad went down to save his marriage, that's why he went down to see you!
KARL: Malcolm, enough, come on...
MAL: And now he get back here and it's broken!
SUSAN: It's more complicated than that!
MAL: Did you even listen to what he had to say? I mean you would have thought after all this time, that would have been the least you...
KARL: MALCOLM! The separation was my idea. Your mother did listen. When I asked her if she wanted this marriage, she said yes. But it *is* complicated. I told her I was...sick of living in limbo. So I'm the one who ended it.
Andrew is sympathising with Summer again. Summer says she quite misses her own family at the moment and asks Andrew to promise that they'll always be there for each other. He looks a little uncomfortable, but he promises.
Susan is clearing out a cupboard while Karl leaves for work. Susan thanks Karl for talking to Malcolm earlier. He heads off to work. The atmosphere is tense.
Outside the door, Karl looks more upset than he seemed before. Inside, Susan starts to cry too.
I don't understand this storyline.
Dial- a- Kyle
Kyle sees Jade coming out of Grease Monkeys with a burger. He runs over and asks for a bite of her burge and her advice about the yard.
KYLE: Maybe I *should* sell.
JADE: Why? Because everyone else is caving in?
KYLE: What am I supposed to do? Lou hasn't even got my back in this.
JADE: Stuff Lou, Kyle! What does your gut tell you to do?
KYLE: Yeah...I want to stay put.
JADE: Yeah! So why are you doubting yourself? Look, you're a smart guy. Come on, you know this business, and you know this town.
She smiles at him.
JADE: Plus, I know you. Back yourself!
As she walks away, Kyle looks pleased and relieved. And there's a look a lurrrve in his eye... ;)
Jade comes in. She goes to eat her burger, but seeing Kyle's teeth marks in it, throws it in the bin instead! Just then, Kyle comes in, having driven round in his van.
KYLE: We need to talk.
JADE: I thought we just did!
KYLE: Not about that. We haven't hung out lately. We haven't done anything else lately, either...
JADE: Well, we've both been pretty busy...
KYLE: I know. But, I think we've got a problem. The feelings rule. If either one of us started having serious feelings, we'd call it quits?
JADE:(panicking) Um...Kyle, I...
KYLE: One of us does have feelings.
JADE: I don't know where you got that idea from, I...
KYLE: I do.
KYLE: I've missed you over the last couple of weeks. More than I've missed any other mate, ever! I mean, you get me. I get you. I don't know how I haven't seen it up until now. I...I know this is messing with the setup, but...I think we should do this. For real.
