- Sophie lying to Kate about her mystery guitar
- Karl taking over Rhys as Jim's doctor
- Michelle blabbing about Lucas's money
- Jade hooking up with Kyle
Susan puts the finishing touches on a basket of goodies for Jim and is about to head to the hospital when she sees a post- it note on the laptop. Karl has saved a web page with information about Peru. Susan smiles, but before she can read it, she gets a phone call from a real estate agent about Jim's old house in Anglesea. Once again, Peru is put on the backburner.
Jade can't help looking pleased when she sees Kyle cooking breakfast for them, but her smile fades when Kyle says he was just picking up where Michelle left off. Kyle can't help asking was last night was all about between them, but Jade just says, “I had an itch I needed to scratch”. Kyle then tries to have a conversation with her but Jade barely listens, off in her own little world.
Jade bumps into Lucas before she starts her jog and tells him that Michelle blabbed about his money situation. Lucas isn't pleased, especially when Jade tries to goad him into admitting that Michelle's annoying, but Lucas won't bite. Paul walks out to collect the paper and can't help commenting on their conversation.
PAUL: Lover's tiff then?
JADE: Are you joking?
PAUL: I've seen stranger things around here.
JADE: Yeah, him? No thanks.
LUCAS: Remind me, who kissed who in Charlie's the first night they arrived in town?
JADE: Well I don't make the same mistake twice.
Paul smiles and says the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over again but expecting a different result. This resonates with Jade, considering her Kyle situation. She puts in her earphones and heads off on her run.
Rhys randomly walks by in the background while Sophie listens to Noah play a song on his guitar. He asks how the new guitar's treating her and Sophie says it's amazing, but Noah warns her not to forget her roots with the acoustic guitar. Sophie sees Kate and bolts away, just as Kate approaches Noah. They chat about music lessons and Kate soon finds out that Noah wasn't the one who loaned Sophie her new guitar.
Paul's surprised to see Kate on his doorstep, and then baffled when she immediately starts ranting at him for buying Sophie presents. Paul calmly states that he hasn't bought his niece anything since the iPod fiasco, but adds that it would explain the random, ‘You're the best uncle' text he got from her last week. Kate's confused - if Paul didn't buy the expensive guitar, then who did?
Jade tries to forget all about Kyle by putting herself through a punishing workout, but it's no use. She can't switch off her thoughts about last night.
Kyle finds Jade and acts all playful with her in an attempt to see if she's up for another round of ‘fun'. He reckons that since they agreed their hook- up was harmless, they should make it a regular thing between them.
KYLE: Housemates with benefits. It's perfect.
JADE: You don't think it would be weird?
KYLE: Well it wasn't weird last night. Besides we've already done it, might as well keep doing it.
JADE: (annoyed) Well, when you put it like that.
KYLE: Dude don't get upset. I thought we were the same about all this stuff?
JADE: No, we are.
KYLE: Then what's the problem?
JADE: I just...
KYLE: Look, don't answer me now. Just think about it. You know where I live!
Karl takes Jim's temperature and lets him know he's got a slight fever and some other doctor- speak, but Jim says he's better with building terms.
JIM: I've been condemned, the residents have gone and now we wait for the wrecking ball.
Karl hates giving Jim more bad news, but he agrees that his immune system is shot and that he's highly susceptible to infection. Jim sadly realises he's going to spend the rest of his days confined to his hospital bed. Karl offers to let Susan know the Anglesea trip isn't a good idea but Jim says he should tell her himself.
JIM: Karl... Thanks, mate.
KARL: It's been a privilege to know you, Jim, and to take over your treatment.
First Commercial Break
Susan happily shows Jim the basket of food she brought in and then presents him with the phone number of the people in his old house. She notices he looks uncomfortable and Jim makes a small attempt to tell her the truth before backtracking and agreeing to the trip.
Lucas makes some food while Sophie loudly strums away at her guitar - before Kate disconnects the cord from the amp and starts yelling at her for lying. Kate says she knows Noah didn't provide her with the guitar, but Sophie's genuinely surprised when Kate says it wasn't Paul either. While the girls are arguing, Lucas pops into his room and returns with a receipt before admitting he bought the present. Sophie's delighted by the gesture but Kate isn't too happy with Lucas spending all that money.
Jade's setting up the pool table when she notices Rhys staring at her from the bar. He walks over to flirt with her, not even batting an eyelid when Jade reminds her Kate's one of her friends. Rhys tries to convince Jade to come into the city with him and his mates, but Jade is too hung up on Kyle to go along with it. Before Rhys leaves he keys his number into Jade's mobile in case she changes her mind.
Jade leaves the bar but everywhere she looks there are happy couples hanging out together. She realises that she might want some company after all and sends a text - either to Rhys or Kyle - letting them know, ‘I'm in. Let's meet.'
Second Commercial Break
Number 26 - Jade's Bedroom
Kyle's reading a magazine on Jade's bed when she gets home. They start peeling their clothes off as Kyle asks if they need to “sort out how things are going to work”. But Jade reckons they can handle it without talking. They start to kiss and fall onto the bed.
Lucas's phone rings but he ignores it when he realises it's Michelle. Kate sits down to have a cuppa with him and is in a more understanding frame of mind now she knows about Lucas's dad. Sophie sees them talking and asks if she can keep the guitar, thrilled when Kate actually says yes, but Kate's not done with her yet. Lucas senses the girls need some privacy so he heads off to find Michelle (exchanging a cute high five with Soph along the way), figuring there's no point hiding when she knows where he lives. Kate tells Sophie that she doesn't appreciate her lying to her face, but Sophie doesn't see how they're that different.
SOPHIE: You're such a hypocrite. You tell me not to lie but you do it all the time.
KATE: No I don't.
SOPHIE: Uh, Paul and Rebecca? Mark and leaving Erinsborough?
KATE: They're completely different situations, especially Mark.
SOPHIE: Yeah that was worse. You told me to pack up my life, leave my friends and you wouldn't even tell me why.
KATE: I didn't know what else to do, Sophie. I love him, you know that.
SOPHIE: I love this, it's not that different.
KATE: It's completely different. You know what, maybe when you're older you'll...
SOPHIE: Oh don't tell me I'm too young to understand! Look if you don't want to support me learning the guitar, fine. But don't stop other people from doing it.
Karl's surprised when Susan asks him if she could borrow the car this weekend to take Jim to Anglesea. Karl takes Susan into his office and says that Jim's far too ill to leave the hospital, but Susan just thinks he means ‘for now', so Karl has to spell it out for her that Jim has to remain in the hospital. Susan doesn't handle the news well, admonishing herself for promising Jim he could see Anglesea one last time. Karl tries to give her a hug to comfort her, but Susan just dashes off to see Jim.
When Susan goes into Jim's room, he's looking at a photo of his old house that she printed out for him. She can see he's getting upset and feels awful that she made a promise to him that she can't keep. Jim tries to say that it's OK but then admits that it's not - he really wanted to go to Anglesea. They both start to cry and Jim says that he doesn't want to die, so Susan hugs him and plants lots of small kisses on his forehead, trying to comfort him.
Third Commercial Break
Susan stands at the door of Karl's office and asks if he wants a coffee, but he declines. Karl looks slightly off and we soon find out why - a flashback lets us know that he was watching Susan and Jim through the window when Susan was comforting Jim in a very intimate manner.
(Tomorrow on Neighbours)
KARL: The pain that he's experiencing is a sigh that his body has reached its limits.
RHYS: At this stage in Jim's illness there's nothing more we can do.
SUSAN: Oh you can, you know you can.
(Tash tries on her uniform for boarding school)
CHRIS: Have you told anyone you're leaving yet?
TASH: No and I'm not going to. This is my last night before I go and get locked up. Let's go wild!
(Andrew thinks he's got his present all sussed out)
ANDREW: I saw the brochures in the back of his car. This is going to be the greatest present in the history of presents.
