Number 24/Number 30
Kate and Kyle arrive back to number 24 after a fun night out dancing and they prepare to stay up for a DVD night. Kyle is looking at Kate's chick- flick collection with disdain when he notices her checking her phone so he confiscates it and turns it off. A sleepy Lucas comes out and declines the offer to stay up with them. He gives Kyle his DVD collection where Kyle finds a winner: Terminator. Later, he sees Kate wiping away tears which she blames on a tough day at work. He can tell she's upset about Brennan so he reasons that Brennan cancelling was probably legit and if not, it's his loss.
Meanwhile, Brennan slinks out to the couch at number 30. He looks at his phone and decides to call Kate but he gets her voicemail. He turns on the TV in the darkened room and impatiently channel surfs all on his lonesome.
It is morning and Kate and Kyle are sleeping on the couch, complete with loud snoring. They're woken up by Jade and Lucas who are armed with pot lids and a loudspeaker.
KATE: What time is it?
LUCAS: It's July.
Jade questions Kate on her date with Brennan and she calls Brennan a tool when she finds out that he cancelled. Jade then gets her match- making face on when she realises that Kyle and Kate had a bit of a date themselves with their DVD night. Kate sees a message from Mark explaining why he cancelled – Toadie and Callum – but Jade thinks it's bogus since Toadie has the entire street as his support network.
Susan has cooked up a HUGE breakfast but there's only her and Karl to enjoy it. Susan is uneasy with the emptiness of the house but Karl is quite enjoying not having to fight for the best bits in the newspaper! Susan tries to enlighten Karl with some factoids from a reader survey but he indicates that she's already told him by finishing her sentences as she says them. She's happy to spend the day together with him, except that he's got a hospital golf day and she declines his offer to pull out of it.
Lyn, Summer and Charlie are preparing for a lazy day at home. Charlie wants to decorate his room with photos like Summer did with hers. Susan strolls in looking for something to do and when she finds that Lyn doesn't have any specific plans for the day, Susie invites herself down for a tea and a catch up. Charlie's room will have to wait.
Kyle is marvelling at Kate being done with the bathroom in 10 minutes. Mark walks out into the street just in time to see Kate thanking Kyle with a peck on the cheek, so he chooses to go into gloomy jealous ex mode. Kyle goes over when he sees Brennan arguing with Kate before Lucas comes to drag him off. Kate explains exactly what happened with Kyle – nothing – and Mark doesn't have much to say to it but he looks annoyed all the same.
Lyn and Summer try to subtly indicate to Susan that they're hoping for a lazy family day at home but Susan isn't picking up the clues. She offers to help decorate Charlie's room and nicks off home to grab ingredients to bake a cake for morning tea.
Ramsay Street/Harold's Store
Lucas is trying to talk to Mark about how Kate thought he wasn't interested so she hung out with Kyle in a totally platonic way. Mark isn't interesting in talking, however, so they prepare to go for a spin on their bikes.
At Harold's, Jade is trying to convince Kate to give up on Mark because he'll just keep letting her down. Karl walks in all dolled up in his golf outfit and he claims that it was windy so he didn't go well but Jade teases him about it being a nice and still morning. Kyle comes in to talk to Kate who quickly apologises for what happened that morning with Brennan.
KYLE: I'm kind of used to the jealous ex- boyfriends; I get it all the time.
Kyle wants to know if Kate gets a break later but she doesn't, and he looks like he's about to ask her for a date but asks for a smoothie instead. Jade, with her match- making face on again, convinces Kyle to go for it with Kate. He's reluctant because she's knocked him back before, but Jade thinks that Kate is only after Mark because she's unaware there are other options.
The cake is piping hot out of the oven and Lyn and Summer pretend like they're enthusiastic. Susan wants to organise Lyn's kitchen when Lyn finally blurts out they were hoping to get to know each other again, as a family, in their home. Susan realises she's intruding so apologises and makes a quick exit.
Susan's fretting about how intrusive she was being.
KARL: Don't worry about it, at least they got a cake out of it!
He knows that she's missing having people to fuss over, but she denies it at first, claiming that it is great not having to make lunches and clean up after people. She finally concedes that she loves making the lunches and having people around the table. She wants to feel useful.
KARL: Come on, we've been waiting for this for years. Chance to focus on each other, not worry about the kids.
SUSAN: I suppose I can get used to it if I *have* to.
Karl suggests something to do with their spare time, and out comes the famous blue box. As Karl goes to lock the front door, it's Lyn's turn to intrude! Feeling bad, she has come with Charlie with the cake all iced and pretty. As Lyn and Susie trade apologies, Karl looks concerned as he sees Charlie eyeing up the blue box right in front of him. Right on cue, Charlie asks about the contents and goes to open it but Karl quickly keeps it closed and takes it away.
After their ride, Lucas invites Mark to go again next week. Mark is not feeling all that chatty so Lucas makes his move to leave until Mark calls him back but says he doesn't want to talk about Kate because it's complicated. Lucas retorts that it's always been complicated – but is it because of him, or her?
Harold's Store – Exterior
Jade is psyching Kyle up to ask Kate out. Kyle tells Kate how great last night was and how they should hang out again. He suggests dinner, and when she realises that he's talking about a date, she knocks him back. He takes it well and leaves when Brennan walks over (although Brennan does apologise first for that morning). Mark has realised that he's hesitating about Kate because he can't trust her, but she's irritated that she's expected to just wait until he can sort his issues out. She suggests that perhaps they shouldn't see each other again at all. Meanwhile Jade has been eavesdropping in the background by not- so- subtly looking at postcards on the postcard stand.
Erinsborough Gym/Lassiter's Complex
More therapy sessions are underway with Jade counselling Kate and Lucas counselling Mark. Whilst taking out her frustrations at the gym, Kate laments that she's being made to pay for life for doing one stupid thing. Jade wants Kate to move on – get herself out there – and step one is to call Kyle. She takes on Jade's advice and gives Kyle a call.
Mark is ranting and raving about how the whole situation is stressing him out. If Kate wants to end it, then fine, so be it.
SUSAN: This whole new- age thing, why don't you just let it go?
LIBBY: It's not a phase.
(Paul is looking at Michael and Karl at Charlie's, Michael is returning him with a dirty look)
PAUL: I don't believe that people actually really ever change.
(Michael is talking to Libby at number 28)
MICHAEL: This is as far as I go. You can be the one to liaise with Paul.
(Paul sees smoke and crystals)
PAUL: What hippie commune did you come from?
(Kate and Jade at the gym)
KATE: I've been jumping from one guy to another.
JADE: Yeah, but that's what they're there for.
(Kate preparing to go out with Kyle)
KATE: I didn't want to give Kyle the wrong idea, that's all.
LUCAS: You know, if you're going out on a date with him, he's already got an idea.
(Kyle is chatting with Jade at Charlie's)
KYLE: What can I say, I'm a sensitive guy.
(Kyle and Kate on their date)
JADE: For simple no- strings- attached fun, you could do a lot worse than Kyle.
