- Susan walking with Kate into the police station
Police Station
Kate is looking uncomfortable when Brennan prompts her to tell him what she needs help with. She blurts out the truth: Rebecca was the one who pushed Paul off the mezzanine. Detective Brennan quickly realises that Kate lied in her previous statement and is suitably frustrated and angry. Kate throws some other names out to justify her actions - Declan asked her to do it, and then Paul begged her to keep it secret. Mark calmly replies that she'll need to make a full statement and reminds her that he's no longer working the case. He tells her that Superintendent Rochford will be with her shortly as he walks away.
Police Station - Exterior
The statement has been made and Superintendent Rochford escorts Kate and Susan out. He thanks Kate for coming forward and lets her know that he'll be in touch. Susan wants to know how everything went but before Kate can answer, Mark walks out of the station completely ignoring Kate. Susan tells Kate that eventually Mark will come around but Kate isn't so sure. He gave up the career- making case for Kate but Susan insists that if Mark loves Kate then he will understand.
Number 24
Sophie has just heard about the developments and is angry at Kate for lying to the police. Lucas wants to know where Paul stands and Kate confirms that Paul knows about everything except for the fact that she's gone to the police. Kate starts to get frustrated at all the questions being thrown at her but Sophie is equally frustrated at Kate's actions.
SOPHIE: Hey. You're the one who broke the law, not me!
Sophie walks off despite Kate trying to call her back. Susan tells Kate to give Sophie a little space but Kate snaps at her by sarcastically commenting that Sophie, like Mark, will come around. Lucas is still in disbelief that it was Rebecca while Kate tries to call Mark but only reaches his voicemail. Kate starts yelling at everyone to just leave her alone.
Police Station - Exterior
Kate is waiting for Mark outside the station but he doesn't want to talk to her. Eventually he agrees to hear her out and she tries to tell him to see it from her point of view. He's angry that she guilt- tripped him about challenging her original statement but Kate is still on the defensive.
KATE: I was being pressured!
MARK: By who? Your lying ex- boyfriend? Your sick, twisted uncle?
Kate apparently knows that he's angry and sees why he is, but still thinks that he doesn't understand what it was like for her. He's not accepting her reasoning though (and nor would I) since they didn't threaten her into lying; she did it on her own and he gave up the biggest case of his career in order to show that he cared about her and their relationship. Kate begs him not to give up on them but he just tells her that he needs to get back to work.
Harold's Store
Toadie and Sonya are talking about Rebecca's departure and how surprising it is that they resorted to something as drastic as doing a runner. They agree Rebecca is a good person and it's good that she's with her family. They exit as Tash walks in all annoyed at Andrew for inquiring about her father since she knows that he doesn't care. They argue about the petition which Andrew insists was his father's idea and Tash insists that he helped with. Tash walks over to chat to (or snark at) Chris and Summer who are having breakfast. Chris randomly (or not so randomly) asks how Natasha is, and talk quickly turns to Rebecca.
NATASHA: She's a total home- wrecking dog.
Whoa! Tash continues on her diatribe about what a horrible person Rebecca is (chewing men up and spitting them out, amongst other things) while Andrew looks uncomfortable for a while before leaving. Summer tells Tash that even if she thinks it's true, she shouldn't be going around blabbing it.
Erinsborough High - Hallway
Tash is out to spread more hate (sugar- coated, this time) as she pretends to sympathise with Sophie about how Rebecca was close to her and then totally just left her. Sophie doesn't really know how to respond so she leaves as Lucas, who has been watching on in the background, tells Natasha that she needs to give it a rest. This doesn't stop her though, so Lucas tries to appeal to her love for her father: Michael wouldn't want Natasha to be spreading the goss.
The word "goss" has caught the ear of Natasha's Mathlete friend Lisa and it would appear that Lucas' appeal has failed.
NATASHA: Rebecca Robinson skipped town.
LISA: What?
NATASHA: Yeah, and she didn't even have the guts to tell my dad to his face.
I only quote that because it's untrue since, y'know, Mike saw Rebecca off and all. Summer has overheard and tells Tash to stay out of it since she doesn't know the full story.
NATASHA: Why don't you just go to the library and hang out with all your bookworm mates?
SUMMER: Why don't you go to the hospital and hang out with all the other bogan pregnant teenagers, Tash?
Erinsborough High - Classroom
Summer angrily tells Chris that Natasha is a hypocrite and Natasha storms in, angry that her pregnancy is now common knowledge. Natasha appeals to Chris, hoping he knows how it feels to have one's secrets publicly known but he's less than sympathetic because she's the one who outed him! Summer is unapologetic and Tash quickly realises that Chris already knew since he randomly asked her how she was that morning. Summer is still unapologetic for telling everyone else as Andrew walks in wanting to know what the fighting is all about. Tash tells him that everyone knows now, but Andrew is nonplussed about the pregnancy being out.
Harold's Store
Susan has sneaked into the kitchen to check on Kate.
KATE: I spoke to Mark. He said that he never really wants to see me again.
SUSAN: Did he actually say that?
KATE: Pretty much.
Again, I quote that because it's untrue. Sophie comes in to the kitchen because she's forgotten her lunch and Kate offers to make her something. Soph agrees but is still moody and Susan steps outside the kitchen to ask Sophie to support Kate since everyone has lied before, especially if we thought it was for a good reason. Sophie sees her point so she worriedly asks Kate if she'll be going to jail (not before calling her an idiot), but Kate doesn't know. Sophie pulls her into a hug.
Harold's Store - Exterior
Lucas has just filled Toadie and Sonya in on the whole Paul/Rebecca saga. Before he leaves, he tells Toad that Kate might go to him later for legal advice. Toadie is not surprised about Paul blackmailing, he's not too surprised about Rebecca's actions given the circumstances, but he is surprised that Kate covered it up. Sonya brings up Toadie and Steph as an example of situations never being cut and dried.
Mark and Lucas head off for a coffee as Lucas lets Mark know that Kate clued him in about everything. Mark is suspicious at first that Lucas was another one who has been lying about it from the start but Lucas did not and Mark apologises for being snappy. Lucas wants to know what kind of trouble Kate is in but the topic is out of bounds so Lucas agrees to talk about cars or motorbikes instead.
Charlie's
Andrew is on the phone with Paul who has told him that he's going in for questioning but hasn't told him much else. Andrew quizzes Brennan and Lucas about it - even though it's not Brennan's case, he should still know. Andrew quickly jumps to the conclusion that it was Declan who pushed Paul but Brennan corrects him: there was an affidavit signed by his father that said Rebecca did it. Andrew doesn't think it's possible since Kate said...and then it clicks. Kate lied.
Harold's Store - Exterior
Andrew is walking over from Charlie's like a man on a mission and Kate quickly tells Susan to take Sophie back to school to avoid the confrontation. Andrew doesn't understand how Kate could have done something that low since they're family. Mark and Lucas have come to keep things under control.
ANDREW: You can't tell me what to do, alright?
MARK: Yeah well my police badge says otherwise.
Lucas drags Andrew back to school and Mark checks that Kate is alright before advising her to get a lawyer.
Erinsborough High - Hallway
Tash sees a picture taped up on her locker that has her head pasted onto a picture of a pregnant woman and she angrily rips it off and hands it to Summer who claims that she didn't do it but is mightily amused anyway. Chris tells Tash not to worry as she'll quickly become yesterday's news but Natasha just rips up the picture. She spots Andrew and complains to him about the Mathletes being mean but he tells her to ignore them.
The Mathletes are huddled in a little circle discussing the pregnant teen. They've decided to vote her out because getting pregnant was not smart. Tash is in disbelief because they're the "bottom of the picking order". That was mean. The Mathletes are totally rejecting her anyway. That was mean too.
Erinsborough High - Classroom
Natasha walks in complaining that it's discriminating to kick her out of Mathletes (rightly so). Lisa tells her to be realistic - she won't have time to study if she has a baby. Tash drags her aside and reminds her about the rumour about Summer and Zeke and how she spread it which the teachers would be less than thrilled about. Tash makes an announcement:
NATASHA: I thought our motto was "no problem too hard, no challenge too high". Now, being pregnant at high school is not a problem, but it IS a challenge. That's why I came here today. Seeking support. Hoping to find godparents worthy of my little Mathlete. (She holds up a baby Mathletes t- shirt). But you know what? Maybe it's time to move onto debating.
And with that, she throws the shirt at Lisa and walks out. Lisa takes the cue and tries to convince the others that Tash deserves another chance while Tash looks in from outside.
Erinsborough High - Hallway
It's obviously worked as Tash stands around wearing her baby Mathletes shirts along with her Mathletes mates. Summer eye rolls that Tash has turned being pregnant into a cult but Chris is rather impressed. Natasha makes an insincere offer of godmother to Summer but Summer's fed up with it all: they aren't friends so they should stop pretending. Chris just shrugs at Tash and follows Summer.
Andrew sulkily walks by as he gets a call from his dad. He's annoyed that Paul never told him the truth and probably didn't intend to.
Harold's Store
Summer sits down with a sulky Andrew and Andrew starts complaining about how his father always keeps him at a distance. Sum reasons that perhaps Paul was unable to deal with the Rebecca situation himself so he wasn't able to let Andrew in and that seems to pacify Andrew. Talk turns to Zeke as Natasha walks in looking hurt at seeing her boyfriend and Summer together.
Number 30
Kate is getting legal advice from one of the only two lawyers around. The potential charge would be attempting to pervert the course of justice, but Toadie says that it would just be a hearing and not a trial with a jury. It's unlikely that she'll get prison but it is possible. Toad assures her that he'll be with her all the way and she gets up to leave. Mark, who has been watching, holds out his hand to Kate and offers to walk her home.
Number 24
Kate apologies about everything and asks for forgiveness but Mark is noncommittal since she broke his trust. He was willing to do anything for her but she's not the person he thought that she was. He leaves and Kate leans against the door crying.
