Previously on Neighbours
Rebecca being very complimentary about Michael.
Kate adamant that the accident could have been avoided if Steph hadn't been drunk.
Tash telling Andrew he can do the gig at the school dance.
Kate making a false statement.
Declan telling Kate to make up an excuse and leave when he finds out who her date was.
Declan catches up with Kate as she is almost home – she still amused at having to cut short her date even when he points out again about her making a false statement.
Everyone is surprised to see Kate home early and Donna leads the interrogation of what went. Kate tells them it was a mutual decision and agrees with Lucas' interpretation that they didn't have any chemistry together. Donna isn't buying it but Kate refuses to spill.
Number 32 (next day)
Tash is bending her father's ear about the social but its falling on death ears.
Rebecca gets a bit flustered when Declan mentions that Det. Brennan was in the bar the previous night but reassures her it will be fine as he wasn't in on business (he began by asking if she'd heard anything about the case lately). Their chat is curtailed when Andrew comes down for breakfast and he is a bit surprised to find that Rebecca is literally about to rush out the door instead (she has a meeting) of the family breakfast he envisioned.
The parent/pupil/teacher meeting about the social is in full swing and Tash is trying to railroad everything she wants through, despite Rebecca suggesting alternatives.
Meeting over and Tash confirms to Andrew that he is on for the social despite Rebecca's suggestion of having a live band. They disappear and Michael apologises to Rebecca for his daughter then sweet talks her into helping him with the roster for the event, agreeing to meet up at Charlie's later on.
Steph is cooking up a storm when Lucas comes by to see if she needs anything from the supermarket. Realising she doesn't need anything, he asks how things are going and she replies its scary, adding that half the time she thinks it going to be alright… until she thinks about Ringo. She then reveals that Toadie isn't charging her for his time, he's only taking food (hence why she is cooking up a storm) and when Lucas volunteers to pay, she remind him that he still owes Libby!
Steph (and Lucas) deliver containers of food to Toadie as he sits in the store working on Steph's defence. He admits that despite the last minute car driver statement, its Kate's statement that concerns him most because it sides with Sam. Lucas decides to have a word with Kate (who was at the counter) but Steph intervenes to stop it and to tell Kate that she'll make sure nobody else hassles her. She then asks that Kate takes her job back at the store and at the trial she must tell the truth, even if it doesn't look good for her.
Kate tells Donna what she plans on saying at the court – that it's Steph's fault and wanted her to hear it first. Donna wonders why she came to that conclusion and Kate replies that she had plenty of time to see what was happening. She then starts asking Kate questions about where the accident happened but Kate's mind is only remembering the crash, so she asks if Kate will take her to the accident spot.
And today's trip down memory lane is back to 1992 and someone being kissed very passionately!
Declan gets a call from Kate asking for him to join them to show Donna where the accident took place.
Meanwhile Michael is impressed with Rebecca's roster skills before they begin reminiscing about live bands they saw and realise they have a lot in common especially music wise!
Rebecca vetoes a lunch date in a call with her husband and comes home to find Tash and Andrew having a late lunch/study session because the library was busy. Andrew subtly quizzes her on the amount of time she isn't spending with Paul lately but she manages to swing the conversation around to discussing the school social instead. He's happy to hear that he tells Tash, because it means Rebecca is staying put!
Number 32 backyard
Michael is enlisting his daughters help in tracking down an album even if she is aghast that he's not using the internet to find the material instead.
“It's so normal” Donna remarks after she, Declan and Kate walk to the spot where the accident took place. She asks Declan what happened and he says but when he does it conflicts with Kate's memories of that day. And they still haven't learned anything from that tragic day either - when they are about to step out onto the road without checking for traffic, a passing car narrowly misses them. When another car passes them (coming in the same direction Steph came from) it suddenly dawns Kate that Steph didn't have a chance to stop.
KATE: I've got it all wrong, it's not Steph's fault.
Commercial break later and Declan tells Kate they will talk to Toadie when they return to Erinsborough. Donna then asks where about it exactly happened and Declan points it out to her and she wonders onto the road and crouches down to touch the road surface. Thankfully Kate reacts (this time) when they hear traffic and pulls Donna back onto the side of the road seconds before a car passes them.
The teens return from their trip and Kate tells Toadie (and Steph) that after visiting the accident site, there is no way she could have avoided them. She apologises to Steph and tells her that she is also going to change her statement. Steph is quick to tell her that there is nothing to apologise for.
Kate looks relived when Sophie and Lucas drag her away, to save having a conversation with Declan about her abortive date and when they leave, Steph and Toadie share a relieved hug.
Michael has obviously found the album he was after as he boogies away in his house despite Tash being embarrassed at him (calling his dancing a ‘seizure'!). She is relived to escape to her bedroom when Rebecca arrives and she prevents him from turning the music off as she is after a boogie too! They reminisce over Michael's record collection when the song finish before putting on Hunters & Collectors track.
As they are dancing, Rebecca does a twirl, which results in Michael catching her after a wee stumble although she puts it down to his rug.
Final commercial break later and they are still reminiscing over the music but Michael calls a halt to the session, saying he has work to do. Rebecca asks for repeat performance and she gives him a peck on the cheek as a way of thanks for a great time on the way out.
